You’re probably not surprised I’m picking the Giants to win Super Bowl XLVI, 27-21. Here’s how I see it playing out:
The Patriots will control the battle for time of possession with short passing and running, but the Giants will make more big plays. New England may have an early lead before its defense — namely the secondary — will not hold late.
Either Eli Manning or one of the Giant receivers will win MVP (Victor Cruz is the best candidate), but you’ll see a defensive guy make his own bid, like Michael Boley or Justin Tuck. The Pats will spend most of their energy against Jason Pierre-Paul and Osi Umenyiora.
Here are a few ridiculous predictions that I guarantee:
• The Giants will start with the ball. (The Patriots like to defer and Tom Coughlin has already said he’ll take the ball.)
• One team will convert a fourth down. (Both teams have shown a penchant to go for it on fourth down.)
• Tom Brady will pass for more yards than Manning, but Manning will commit fewer turnovers.
• If the Giants win, Coughlin will be doused with CLEAR liquid. (Book it.)
Enjoy the game. I hope I will.
I don’t want to clog the Twitter feed with Super Bowl tweets. If you want to read my thoughts on the game, follow along @jthomson22. Go Giants.
