It’s Signing Day

Posted by: Josh Thomson - Posted in Football on Feb 01, 2012

Good morning, football fans. I know it’s been a long winter for you, but today the blog will do its best later today juggling the ongoing basketball season with the excitement of National Signing Day.

I plan to make at least two stops later today and will gather some pictures from at least a couple others. We’ll include a bunch of that in a story for tomorrow’s paper and here online.

However, there’s one developing item to cover before the day gets started…

As a few of you noticed on the scheduled of signing ceremonies, the three Yale commits from the area — Bronxville twins Christian and Jackson Conway and Stepinac’s Caleb Gilligan-Evans — were not listed. Here’s the deal: Yale has hired a new coach in Harvard assistant Tony Reno and has started to bring sweeping change to the Bulldogs. From what I can gather, the new Yale coaching staff hasn’t shared the same enthusiasm for its recruits as the previous regime, although the program is bound to honor previous commitments.

Stepinac coach Mike O’Donnell said Gilligan-Evans is awaiting proper documents from Yale, which has kept its offer to the senior running back. Bronxville coach Jeff Napolitano told me the Conways will at least explore other options. They have looked at Duke, Cornell and Dartmouth, among others. They hope to make a second visit to Duke this month.

When I find out more about them, I’ll let everyone know.

I hope the Conways end up at Cornell.

Congrats to all who have signed and will be signing soon!! Just goes to show you that hard work on and off the football field pays off to those you really want it!!! With the NCAA making Clearinghouse requirements tougher, players need to realize that it all begins in the classroom. The guys pictured above understand that!!

I hear that the BEDS numbers are out. Has anyone seen them? What changes are going for next football season? Also, any word on the Piner Rankings for next year?

dm50… The piner rankings have not been determined for next season.

Thanks Josh. Have you heard if there is a deadline as to when they want the rankings and schedule ready?

The committee hopes to meet next week to devise the questionnaire. It’ll be a little while after that before the rankings are produced I’d imagine.
