The season is far from over, and so much weight, in my mind, should be placed on what’s to come. Having said that, we are now deep enough into the season to identify Section 1’s top performers. Now, I want to see you settle on one.
So, here’s the new poll question: Who is your current pick for Section 1 player of the year?
Here are the choices, in alphabetical order:
• Isaiah Cousins, Mount Vernon
• Jeff Lynch, Byram Hills
• Mike McCahey, Clarkstown South
• Tyler Sayre, Albertus Magnus
• Randy Stephens, Mount Vernon
• Will Trawick, Fox Lane
• Sky Williams, Tuckahoe
The poll is in the right-hand column. Vote away!

All jokes aside….How good would Saniya Chong be if she played for a current section 1 boys basketball team? I mean could she compete in AA, A, B or C? Would she start at any of the schools?
In my opinion, I think she is better than alot of the current boys players and not simply from a skills standpoint, but I believe she is faster I(or at least equal) than some of the boys point guards I have seen. Just watch how quickly she goes from baseline to baseline with the ball….INSANELY QUICK. She absolutely shoots better that 95% of the boys players. Granted I have not watch as much HS ball as I have in the past, but I have not seen a pure, don’t leave him open for a second shooter in section one yet. Just a post to cause a little chatter
B-Ball IQ… When it comes to things like speed, shooting and passing, Chong would be one of the best players on many teams. But I think it’s impossible to gauge. The strength factor is huge. Some of the point guards would probably weigh 50 or 60 more pounds.
@ Josh – Thanks for replying directly to my post. No question strength would be a factor, but I honestly wonder how well she would do. Another thing I noticed while watching her at the county center is her conditioning…the girl is like the energizer bunny and is non-stop. She also might be in better condition that many of her male counter-parts.
Yayyy goooo randy ur a winner!!!!!!
Although Cousins is a very good player on a very good team. after watching them play on more than one occassion, it is clear to me he may not be the best player on that team. Randy Stephens has the talent, drive, committment, to overcome the hype and deliver week in and week out. He plays 4 positions WELL both ends of the court, while Cousins is able to do his thing. My vote is for Stephens because he could easily put up numbers comparable to Cousins, but chosses to fill ALL the gaps.

Yes sky williams did go to rice for not even half of a year then he left for stapinac but that didnt work out either now he goes to tuckahoe is he really as good as people say he is? I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!!!
Your CRAZY! your words remind me of an old friend! If you know all of this, then you should know how much SKY WILLIAMS worked on his game! You should also know that he took over 30,000 shots with me over this past summer, hours of ball handling drills, hours of one on one games with ME! Hours of film, breaking the game down so he would be ready to do what he’s doing now! Like i said before he’ll win POY because i trained him! If you have a son or daughter age 8-17 please contact me to schedule a session or #2. Tell a friend
