josh i am intrigued to see your thought on tz tonight. They were down the first three quarters and still played “their” game. They waited patiently for shots, they didnt start chucking up threes and didnt force shots. They kept waiting for open looks and fed the ball inside for high percentage shots. It really showed how good of a team they are by how cool they kept themselves after being down the whole game. your thoughts?
Not to say i’m surprised that MV lost, but geez.
Just a down yr for NY as a whole on the national scene. Lincoln, CTK, ST. Ray’s, MV, etc… all going down big in national tourneys over the last few weeks.
I don’t think we have any top 25 (maybe top 40) teams in the country in NY this year.
Might sound crazy, but less kids playing hoops these days!
That’s the motto… I agree, but TZ definitely ramped up its defensive intensity tonight in the second half. No question in my mInd they’re the second best team in the section. Proved it again tonight.
I’ll have more thoughts on the blog tomorrow.
Quiet 17 points from the Albertus pg tonight
Sayer from AM just is not physical enough to hang with TZ big guys
Boogie,
Too much video games, tv and internet. Growing up, we used to have the courts flooded all day. Don’t see that anymore.
good discussion on less kids playing hoops.
More parents need to rip the joystick out of their kids hands and make them go outside.
I never could’ve imagined being TOLD to have to go outside and play!
mv has never scored 37 in a game . This is probably an all time low for offense. haywood no where to be found. Probably very distraught over this. Mv hoops is his life and why wouldnt it be. Its very normal to live your life through a high school basketball team, especially one that you dont coach or have any family or relatives playing on it.

CT Hoops: Google ESPN HS Basketball & look at the rankings before showing your ignorance. I’m shocked by the lack of knowledge by bloggers on LoHud. MV was 29th in the Nation in both the Jan 16th & Jan.23rd Rankings. Orlando Christian was 39th. If MV can beat Roman Catholic from Philly tonite, a very good team that’s well coached, they will take 3rd place in the Montverde Invitational which is loaded with National Talent! None of which are from CT…LOL
So happy to see Mount Vernon get blown out!
Hey moe…!!!!
please stop kicking dirt on my homie, haywood. While I can not speak of his having a life or not b/c I don’t know him, I respect his deep abiding love of and passion for the game of basketball and Mount Vernon hoops in particular.
I am in my mid-60’s with blessed with a wonderful wife [MVHS class of 66] children & grandchildren none of whom went to MV have all enjoyed seeing the highest quality high school basketball whether it be at the County Center, Pace U., West Point, SUNY New Paltz, or Glens Falls Civic Ctr.. Win or lose and it’s been mostly wins, there is most always great energy and talent on display.
For many of us Mount Vernon pride is a multi-generational phenomenon.
I can understand your not having the capacity to understand since you have not directly experienced being part of such a storied, winning tradition as this. I am sorry you have missed out on this, albeit, you may consider is nonsense that grown men & women would reap such joy from this.
Give my regards to Larry and Curly.

JS
Update alert…!! The blowout is history and Mount Vernon has rebounded from it to take 3rd place in one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country, beating Roman Catholic 82-72.
JS
p.s. I have reserved a ticket for you to attend next year’s Hater’s Ball. Keep up your hating and I may nominate you for Section 1’s HOY….....Hater of the Year.
mvhs,
Nice win for MV coming off the tough loss. Roman Catholic is always tough, I remember seeing them when they had Eddie Griffin years ago. And I like the Larry and Curly comment! Its amazing how some people enjoy being negative with not a positive thing to say…like moe and js
mvhs65….I can’t believe that I have to say this with you being in your 60’s, as stated above, but I think you should grow up! Give credit where credit is due and accept the fact that MV is not the best team on the planet. So sick and tired of MV this, MV that…nobody has a chance to beat them, no one is on their level, blah blah blah blah. Guess what, they lost by over 30 points. Enjoy it!!!
Yes, nobody in Section 1 could beat them is what was said JS. Maybe if you spent less time slurping you might have caught that.
I don’t care if its Section 1 or any other Section or any other state…if they are above and beyond everybody else, then they should win against everybody they play.
JS,
I haven’t read anyone say MV is above and beyond everyone…have you? If you have read it somewhere on this blog, please cut and paste for us all to see. If not, then you’re the only one saying it. MV is the best program around right now and generally the best programs get the most attention. And people like you get jealous. You’re the one who needs to grow up. Or if you’re a basketball fan, go check out a MV game – they’re a very good team and fun to watch
JS…...
It is obvious that upon the mere utterance of “MOUNT VERNON” something in your brain that regulates information processing goes haywire…and you begin to create fiction, that is, ...hearing things that were never said..and filtering out things that were said.
If anyone has ever read my posts they will never, ever read words/phrases like…”invincible” “best team on the planet” “no one has a chance to beat them”. That accusatory, nonsense would be spewing from a mind that is clouded with a lot of anger…like yours.
I’m sorry that it riles you that Mount Vernon is factually and historically, the winningest program in Section 1 history and in NYSPHSAA Class AA championships as well. And YES, over the years they have been taken down by other gritty, tough and talented teams like New Rochelle, White Plains, and Newburgh…..who have been most deserving in their victories over the Knights. Kudos to them for it was their time to shine.
I believe Mount Vernon to be blessed with an amazingly coherent and well-run community/school basketball program. Furthermore, they have a fabulous coach in Coach C…who tries to inculcate positive, life-affirming values about excellence. ....
“Be humble as you celebrate in victory…be humble and determined to learn from your defeats. Never try to humiliate your opponent and don’t allow an opponent, however badly they may beat you, to humiliate you. Strive for focus, teamwork, excellence and the results will follow.” [The above is what I would imagine he has or would have said].
So JS…In all sincerity, please… please stop your hating…it’s not good for your health.
MVHS65
Hoops fan…i don’t have to read it, its how i perceive everyone’s comments. Everyone acts and expresses MV like they are above and beyond everybody. I’m not jealous at all. Obviously they have a very talented and a better program than most. But its kind of ridiculous! To continue about the same things over and over, year in and year out, game in and game out. Its enough!
mvhs65…you are insane!
It’s audacious for JS to call mvhs65 “insane” fir it is JS who suffers from some sort of inferiority, persecution complex. You my friend are the insane one & I recommend psychiatric intervention. I’m not a believer in pharmaceuticals for everyone but you need them and you must start seeing a physchologist for talk therapy ASAP I also recommend more talk therapy then once a week
Get Real-
Actually, I knew full well where Mt. Vernon was ranked by ESPN. Thanks though.
What i’m telling you is that a 30+ pt smack down to a team you’re supposed to be ranked higher than is poor.
That being said, good comeback win vs Roman Cath last night.
And before you bring basketball in CT into the conversation, just remember what happened to MV the last time they played up here. Hillhouse took care of Jabarie and company. Wouldn’t be surprised if a a couple of teams up here could beat them this year as well.
CT Hoops…
If state hoop rankings can sometimes be slightly arbitrary and skewed just imagine how wildly arbitrary and difficult it is to parse out teams rank order on a national level. Private academies with major recruitment components that cull the highest level of talent both nationally and internationally are easier to slot into the top spots. Powerhouse public schools are a lot tougher to measure against one another.
A 30+ point loss by Mount Vernon to a team they are allegedly better than does not mean all that much in the bigger picture. A valid question to ask is whether they had one of those ‘off nights’ where everyone played like crap OR were they legitimately, over-matched by Orlando Christian Prep. When it comes to these type of match-ups between public schools with narrow geographical boundaries & demographics [MV is 4sq.mi./75k population] and privates that recruit locally, nationally and even internationally…....it’s an apples vs. mango comparison.
Bottom line as we all know is to take care of your business at home [Section 1] and to peak come time for regionals and states. And as we all know Mount Vernon is as capable as all others in that regard.
I think in terms of rankings, they’re obviously highly arbitrary and almost impossible to be accurate.
More importantly, these are HS kids! Performances can vary widely on a day to day basis. From watching basketball for years, I’ve seen teams look very mediocre one day playing without fire and energy and a few days later the same team looks fantastic!
JS,
You said it yourself, ‘i don’t have to read it, its how i perceive everyone’s comments’. No offense buddy, but how your perceive peoples comments has nothing to do with what they actually say. This is your problem, not any MV fans. If you don’t like hearing about MV, read a football blog – they are rarely mentioned (no offense MV fans).
CT hoops,
Who are the top teams in CT this year?
To those hating on MV makes me really the amount of jealousy there is to these children. I am a Fox Lane parent and for you guys to be happy for a section one to get blown out on the national level just shows how low some of you people are. These are kids who work hard, and sometimes they meet there challenge talent wise.
Thumbs up to MV for representing section one. I am very proud of you all. Keep it going baby!
Mv did not have a good game, i guess you can say they had one of those nights.
Haywood,
You are right, it’s all about the matchups. TZ is a great team. They do everything well and have fantastic chemistry. Can’t wait for them to see the boys from Armonk.
Everybody has their own opinion and I am expressing mine. To say that I need psychiatric intervention and that i need medication…look who is insane now! You guys are ridiculous. Accept the fact they got beat by 30 points!!! Why is it okay for MV to beat every team by 30 or more points and praise them like they are a god or something. Then when they are on the other end of the stick, its barely talked about. I still say that MV goes out and recruits different players or they have players that do not even live within the MV area. There is no way that this team is on another level than everyone every year. But nobody looks into it because ohhh its MV…and they win every year because every person in MV is an amazing basketball player
JS,
No they win every year b/c they do the best at developing what they have from an early age sans R. Stephens.
JS: If you witnessed what these kids do day in & day out you’d be able to answer your question. It’s hard work that gets the Knights to be an ELITE National Program. They didn’t show up fir the OCP game. Much like WVU w/ KJ & Barie did @ the Garden Wed Nite. You don’t understand & frankly are very ignorant on what you speak. MV basketball is CLEAN & Homegrown! God Bless people like the Fox Lane Parent “Who Gets It” Mt Vernon Basketball is a Remarkable Story! They Men & Women who “Make It Happen” should get a Proclamation from the County, something bye the way, that has been discussed!
Statesman…
There can be no logical discourse with JS….....his level of hating on MV is so, so great that what spews from him is purely irrational, narrow-minded and without merit.
Looking for any and every angle to disparage MV, he is pretty much incapable of anything else…...it is just not worth wasting time or energy on him. I’m sorry it’s taken me this long to realize that.
MV,
All true. Stjll it’s fun to effortlessly poke holes in his logic being I’m not even from MV.
MOE,
WHO IS THE TEAM YOU ROOT FOR,LET ME GUESS,OH I SEE YOU BEHIND THE FENCE UP IN THE STANDS YELLING”GREEN MACHINE”,”GREEN MACHINE”
JOSH THOMPSON,
Im curious to know your thoughts on this question… who is a better player tyler sayre of albertus or Ryan golden of byram hills?
Sayre is unquestionably better then golden. Not even close
Hoops fan-
