Byram Hills won its much anticipated opener last night, beating Scarsdale tourney winner Fox Lane 50-41 behind big efforts from Jeff Lynch and Andrew Maloney and some scrappy play from its bench.
What was most impressive about the Class A champ was that it beat a quality Class AA team without Ryan Golden, last season’s second-leading scorer and among the team’s top rebounders and playmakers. Golden was out with what coach Ted Repa termed a “coach’s decision,” but he may return as soon as next week.
I’ll be down at St. Ray’s tonight to watch Stepinac’s AA debut. I’ll post roundups to all of tonight’s games when I return.
I hope to catch the first half of the Yonkers City tournament championship on the way down to the Bronx.
