Class B recap: Croton 21, Lourdes 7

Posted by: Josh Thomson - Posted in Uncategorized on Nov 05, 2011

Jesse Mainiero hit Dennis Traditi for a 42-yard scoring pass with 31 seconds to go in the opening half, and the two hooked up again for a 20-yard score with no time remaining after Croton recovered an unintentional onside kick. The Tigers went into the break with a 14-7 lead and never looked back, winning their second Class B title in a row. “Those plays shifted all of the momentum,” said Traditi, who began his day in the hospital undergoing tests after feeling intestinal discomfort. “We seemed to be down at first, but we kept the faith and turned things around.” The kickoff was a line drive into a retreating up-man and was quickly recovered by the defending champs. “It was supposed to be a knuckle ball,” head coach John Catano said. “We really wanted it to bounce a couple of times so it would be hard for Lourdes to get a big return.” Croton will face the Section 9 champion here on Friday at 8 p.m. Marlboro and Spackenkill were playing for the privilege late last night. Trevor Wolstencroft scored the lone touchdown of the second half, a one-yard burst with 3:34 to play.

    BIG CAT IS GOD.

    bottom line,

Croton had a very good HS qb,
Lourdes had a pop warner level qb

That was difference in game tonight, best of luck to croton going forward.

When you have no threat to throw the ball they can but a ton of guys in the box, that what happened tonight to Lourdes.

Congratulations to Croton. The coaches do an excellent job on both sides of the ball. The players play hard every game. Hopefully they will get to the Dome.

Marlboro defeated Spackenkill 14-7. If croton plays their game and avoids turnovers it will not be close.

After seeing the game, Croton could have won by more. If they didn’t fumble on the first drive of the second half, they would have rolled over them. Lourdes didn’t have a first down since ealy in the second quarter

Rea,l 100% correct, the diffrence in QB was a huge factor. Croton stuffed the run and they had no plan B. I was sitting in the Lourdes section and they said they would ware them down in the 4th, meanwhile the opposite happened.

Congrats to Croton, Good luck in state playoffs. They made the plays when they needed them last night.

Lourdes is very young, only losing 3 seniors who started. 5 soph.s staring on D. Future looks bright. But they need to find a QB, passing game hurt them all year.

coach walsh should get coach of the year for playing every game with 10 players on offense and doing a great job disquising his weaknesses .

That kid Mainiero and the linemen Brennan deserved those MVP awards! Croton just outplayed Lourdes; that’s the bottom line. Credit to both teams, but when a high school QB is that explosive through the air and runs his offense like Croton’s did in the 2 minute drill, they are going to be a very tough team to stop. By the way our lineman were almost twice the size of Brennan from Croton and he showed his strength and speed, college D-end for sure. Good Luck Croton and OLL we will be back next year!!!

If all works well, I’m thinking about bringing my brother down from Albany to work out for Coach Walsh. They need a QB bad.
