All four Class AA and A semifinal games have been moved to Wednesday because of the weather.
The decision was made by Section 1’s football committee. Member Steve Young said several schools are without power and closed today, which would prevent those teams from practicing prior to their games.
Young said the Class AA and A winners will play on Sunday in the championship games at Mahopac as scheduled. Teams are required to have at least four days between games and playing on Wednesday and Sunday would still meet that standard.
UPDATED, 6:34 p.m.: Croton-Harmon and Briarcliff have moved their game today as well. The field at Valhalla High School is covered in ice.
Croton and Briarcliff have rescheduled their game for 6 p.m. Tuesday at Valhalla HS.
Poughkeepsie has moved its site to Arlington High School. The time will be determined tomorrow.
North Rockland athletic director Joe Casarella said he will explore other options because his field was hit with nine inches of snow. The school has reserved Torne Valley but would prefer to play at home.
Complicating matters further, both North Rockland and Clarkstown South have canceled school for Tuesday as well.
Again, if the semifinals aren’t played by Wednesday, they cannot play the finals on Sunday.

The last game in AA ends at around 830pm and the AA championship is at 12 or 1 on Sunday,that us really going to be tough and unfair .

This is the reason section 1 need to start the season on Monday not Friday, the whole sate is starting a week before us, so whats the problem? Now they have to scramble to try to fit these games in, whats going to happen if the schools aren’t open tomorrow again? there is no more flexablility to postpone the game. TERRIBLE job by section 1, again!

If they want a nuteral site, they can play in White Plains.

Good piece of research on those NRock-NewRo games. Lots of highlights come to mind. My highlights are from a NewRo point of view-I’m sure NRock fans have their own favorites.
03 Ray Rice hammers NRock rb McCoy causing a fumble and Courtney Greene right there to scoop it up and return it for a TD
04 Ray Rice scores all 35 points in the regular season game, 35-7 He also had an interception returned called back because of a clip

Someone needs to go back and get educated on geography. Since when is White Plains a neutral site for the NewRo North Rock game? Whats wrong with other fields in Rockland? You just dont want to cross the bridge! Anyways, classic football has always been played on real turf not the fake stuff. Theres too much fake around here. If you dont like the mud dont watch the game.

Football, what about North or South?
I know Simmons tries to do a good job but is there anyway to get Section 1 into the 21st century and start the football season prior to labor day to avoid these challenges.
It hurts kids in recruiting enough that a nine game schedule doesn’t give the stats and practice. But this is really unfortunate.

They are trying to save tax dollars. Mind you at the kids expense. Heaven forbid any of them would cut anything from their $300,00 to 400,000

Simmons needs to resign!!! Football is the marquee sport in Section 1 and her decisions have made it a mockery. Not starting when everyone else does puts our players at a disadvantage against other Sections and makes for dangerous situations like we are in now. Not to mention losing tons of $ for some bigger schools who can take advantage of ESPN Rise games/scrimmages in August.
She is a joke and needs to be replaced!!!!

The NY State Athletic Committee sets up the calendar of the earliest dates to start the season. The AD’s vote on when to start the calendar. Simmons means nothing in this venture, she is a figurehead that goes along with whatever the AD’s decide.
It flows to the rest of the sports seasons too. I called BOCES last year when Baseball was scrambling to get the regular season games finished BEFORE playoff seedings. There was a week of rain that canceled a lot of games at the end. It used to be there was a week in between before the playoffs started, now there is a day or two. Because the flow of the calendar doesn’t change.
Section 1 is THE ONLY section in NY who starts all seasons a week later!!! It doesn’t give you an extra week, the week is lost no matter how you slice it. The calendar ends when it ends and that is not flexible. Seems like the AD’s want the extra week of summer vacation.

the game will be played at north rockland tommorrow at 3 unless something unpredictable occurs. nrhs has power back, the team has been practicing, and they are plowing and shoveling the field to make it playable for tommorrow. However, the team has reserved torne valley and suffern middle school, if the game cannot be played at nrhs tommorrow

Due to the horrible weather conditions I am going to have to alter my prediction of the game, but not by much.
I think the terrain will make it difficult for either offense to get going, and both Defenses should be on top of their game. Look for a late touchdown by New Ro to seal the deal here.

Rye is on a remarkable run here. Lost first 3 games of the season, now has a chance to make it to the Section finals. My question is this : When was the last time ( if ever) a team lost the first 3 games of their season and went on to win the section ? To my knowledge I don’t think this has ever happened.

But I’ve done some research to other section playoff games, and an interesting match up next Monday, features old New Rochelle nemesis, Newburgh Free Academy facing off against Warwick.
Don’t know much about Warwick but NFA has a pretty great defense. Had a 3 game stretch allowing only 3 points in the process. Lot of running plays, has a lot of different running backs touching the ball on drives. Sounds VERY similar to New Ro’s offense. Only difference would be New Ro has a better passing attack.
Would LOVE to see those two teams face off in Kingston. Still remember that great 24-12 game between the two almost a decade ago.
