There are six games on tonight’s slate, including one playoff game as Irvington — yes, Irvington — opens up in the Class B playoffs. It’s been an impressive season for the Bulldogs, who hope to continue that tonight against a tough team in Lourdes.
I will pass along whatever updates I can gather on Twitter or re-tweet people who are at the games. Enjoy the night. Sounds like snow is in the forecast for tomorrow…
Friday’s games —
Stepinac 48, Fordham Prep 7
Nyack 21, Lakeland 14
Fox Lane 42, Lincoln 0
Mount Vernon 27, Mahopac 19
Yorktown 42, Mamaroneck 35
Section 1 tournament
Class B
Semifinals:
Our Lady of Lourdes 28, Irvington 27
Class B semifinals
Our Lady of Lourdes 28, Irvington 27: At Overlook Park, Lourdes’ Sam Hickey threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Nick Wynne with 45 seconds left to help give the second-seeded Warriors their first lead of the game. No. 3 Irvington led 27-14 going into the fourth quarter.
Irvington jumped out to a 13-0 lead early on, led by quarterback Shoran Tamura, who scored two touchdowns. Tyekwon Livingston and Kevin Degnan also scored. But Tamura’s contributions to the game were ended when he went down with a sprained knee while playing defense in the second quarter.
Tamura himself was a replacement player at quarterback, filling in for original starter Dillon D’Arrigo, who suffered an injury earlier this season. But Irvington entered the game unbeaten with Tamura as its starter.
Coach Mike Oliva said the Bulldogs managed to keep their poise after Tamura went down, but couldn’t stem the tide in the fourth quarter.
Matchup games
Nyack 21, Lakeland 14: At MacCalman Field in Nyack, Khalid Shabazz scored on a six-yard touchdown run to take lead with 1:45 to go. Paul Mitchell had eight carries for 88 yards and quarterback Raydell Williams scored on a pair of TD runs.
Mount Vernon 27, Mahopac 19: At Mahopac, Tim Hedge rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns for the Knights. Teammate Mark Mitchell went 7 for 11 for 230 yards passing.
Yorktown 42, Mamaroneck 35: At Yorktown, Mike Meyreles rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Nick Mariano added 127 yards rushing. He also completed two passes to Jesse Jewel for 105 yards, including a 68-yard touchdown. Meyreles’ brother, Eric, had four rushes for 49 yards and Ben Johnson had 81 yards on seven carries.
Brett Poinros had 17 carries for 116 yards and 2 TDs for Mamaroneck. Matt Marino had 10 receptions for 126 yards. Will Parkinson caught five passes for 120 yards and two TDs, but had a tying touchdown waived off because of a Mamaroneck penalty. QB Parker Thelander went 20 of 29 for 295 yards and four touchdowns. He was intercepted on the Tigers’ final play of the game (following Parkinson’s disallowed touchdown).
Fox Lane 42, Lincoln 0: At Fox Lane, the Foxes earned their first win of the season after an 0-7 start. They also helped first-year coach Steve Quinn earn his first victory as a head coach.

Prince… Yes, they actually are. I thought Woodlands-Dobbs would be closer but the spread was not working for anyone today. (Except for Brady. I went to the Snow Bowl. It worked that night.) I thought North-South was a toss-up and agree with Just that it would’ve been closer if Samuels played the whole game.
White Plains, John Jay and Poughkeepsie probably all played a little better than expected also. But John Jay is outstanding. I think people are putting Poughkeepsie in the state playoffs way too fast.
The biggest surprise so far was Irvington. Sounds like they could’ve beat Lourdes if the QB played the whole game. That coach — another Iona guy, former QB — did a great job this year.
Hoops, I will ask AGAIN, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE copy paste any words of mine that insinuated anything about LAST YEAR in regards to WP except for the INCIDENT!!!
See that is SPIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t doubt that you talked the kid and his father. I don’t like to question those types of decisions on an individual basis. In situations like that, sometimes kids just don’t like the discipline and structure of a catholic school. or sometimes the kid and father believe the kid should be all-world and if the kid isn’t all all world as a soph or Jr they leave for ‘greener’ pastures. Unfortunately, ‘greener’ pastures don’t often work out. At Hayes, that kid got to air out passes all over the field. I haven’t heard much about what he’s done at Clinton, but I doubt he’s passing as much as he would’ve at Hayes. Hayes also has a history getting kids scholarships – I think they’ve had at least one 1AA scholarship kid every year recently and a few 1A scholarships. The QB wasn’t a 1A type talent…maybe DII or DIII…but had a decent arm. I hope he gets a scholarship regardless. It looks like Hayes RB Dequan June will be going somewhere after this year – he’s put up big numbers.
JOSH
I THINK MEADE AND STAFF SHOULD DEF. BE CONSIDER FOR COACH OF THE YEAR THEY HAVE DONE A UNBELIEVABLE JOB AT WOODLAND!.. THE KIDS LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE ENJOYED THIS SEASON!!..... MEADE AND STAFF IS QUIETLY BECOMING SOME VERY, VERY GOOD COACHES AND MAKING A IMPACT WHERE EVER THEY GO!!!.... ROOSE, NOW WOODLAND!!... AND YES I KNOW ONE OF THEM LEFT THE STAFF!! TOOK A COLLEGE JOB I BELIEVE BUT THEY ARE FANTASTIC!!... THOUGHTS!!
Just,
I’m happy to cut and paste as you requested.
At 2:11pm today you wrote…
that you hope WP kids remember last year and “dont quit since the big game(Step) is a month away.”
What in the world would make you pontificate about WP kids quitting?
HOOOPS
YES I AGREE!!... I’M NOT A FAN OF HAYES COACHES COACHING BUT THEY DO GET KIDS IN COLLEGE!!... I AGREE AT HAYES THEY LET HIM THROW THE BALL ALL OVER THE PLACE!!.. CLINTON HAS A VERY NICE RUNNING BACK! ALSO
Prince, normally any other year I would be thinking Meade and maybe he very well deserves it. I am leaning towards JJEF Coach, North Rock Coach, Scarpelli if CSouth upsets JJEF and I will say again, why not Coach D??? Sounds like he had talent again, but not the depth they usually have, but 6 Sect Titles in a row would need to be rewarded. But to be fair, who ever wins CLass A I am sure will have strong consideration. The BVille coach needs some consideration. If any local CHSFL pull off the unthinkable and knocks off St. A.
Those would be my considerations. Who am I missing?
JOSH
THIS WEATHER WAS TOO BAD TOO HAVE A PLAYOFF GAME IN!! IT AUTOMATICALLY PUTS A SPREAD PASSING TEAM BEHIND THE 8 BALL!!.... I DIDN’T THINK WOODLAND WOULD WIN BUT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE WITHIN 14-17 POINTS… I DIDN’T THINK POK WOULD MAKE IT LOOK UGLY BUT I THOUGHT THEY WOULD WIN!
Hoops SPIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
remember lastyear was about the INCIDENT and my hope was that since the game was a MONTH away, they dont quit so they can avenge their loss!!!!
Nice try!
“I hope WP kids remember last year and dont quit since the big game(Step) is a month away. Would love to see how these teams stack up.”
JUST
I THINK IF NEW RO WINS IT ALL COACH D AUTOMATICALLY SHOULD B/C THEY HAVE NEW RO TAKING THE HARDEST ROAD TO THE CHIP!!.. AND TOO PLAY JJEF IN THE CHIP AND BEAT THEM HE AUTOMATICALLY SHOULD BE!! COACH OF THE YEAR!!.. I LKE MEADE WHO TOOK A TEAM IN 8 MONTHS AND WON 7 GAMES!!! AND THEY WHER NOT A GOOD TEAM!!.. WOODLANDS IS NOT USE TOO HAVING FOOTBALL SUCCESS!!.. SEVERAL COACHES OVER THE PAST 9-10 YEARS!!.. FOR MEADE TO GET THE TO BELIEVE IN 8 MONTHS AND PLAYED THERE HEART OUT!! THATS NOT EASY!!... EVERYONE ELSE HAS A HISTORY WITH THER PROGRAM!! I THINK MEADE WON THOSE 7 GAMES IN CHAMP CAMP AND IONA CAMP!! “GREAT, GREAT JOB COACHES”!!!!
Josh, how do you remember what position guys played from last year game? Obvious on O it is easy to remember the skill positions. But tough to remember who got kicked off the team and who played who was injured? From the notes? Memory? Must say impressive for all you guys to remember.
I was thinking of the games I saw last year, and palyers like Manns you remember him playing his key position (LB), but would be tough for me to remember all 11 and who was injured when etc..
Prince, first let me say, what Meade is doing is quite impressive. Might be none better. Wish he stayed in a Bigger Class(AA or A) but hey we all have to make decisions.
What you wrote about Coach D above, I agree 1000%!! Another Sect Title and he is the clear winner. It will be tough though because if Barger or Clark get that elusive Sect Title for the first time, they will become the sentimental favorites. Not saying it is right or wrong, just how awards go!
Just,
I do not see where you prognosticating about kids quitting or not has any bearing on the football left to be played…and not sure why you would bring it up at all. Feel free to comment why you brought up the prospect of kids you do not know and have not seen play would “quit”.
I agree whoever wins AA deserves strong consideration for coach of the year. Bxville and Croton are loaded, so I’m not sure Napolitano or Catano would be top choices. Moran at Dobbs did a heckuva job this year as well as Meade. Lots of coaches had great seasons. JJEF and No Rock outplayed any preseason expectations – I’d put Walsh and Lynch way up there.
NOBODY OUTPLAYED PRESEASON EXPECTATION LIKE MEADE!! THEY WHER NOT EVEN A TOPIC IN JAN NOR WAS THEY A TOPIC IN SEPT. BUT THEY QUIETLY WENT 7-1 OR 6-1 CN’T DISCREDIT THAT HARD TO OVER LOOK!!
Hoops, now that we agree there was nothing said about last year. The prognostication is because the overall goal is to win a Sect Chip. That goal was not achieved. To sit three weeks idle is tough I would think. You never know who is banged up, who might have another sport to worry about, I want the WP team that showed up against New Ro to show up against Stepinac. I want there to be no doubts when that final game is played between WP and Step since that game is usually used as the measuring stick between the different leagues.
And I cant lie, this time of year you Step bloggers turn me into a huge WP fan. Not because I want to see Step players lose, just want to see the Step bloggers eat a little crow!!
JJEF Coach O’Hare
JUST
I AGREE I WANT TO SEE THAT SAME WP TEAMS AS ASWELL AND I WANT TO SEE STEP DISMANTLE!!! THEM!!!
Just,
I hear what you’re saying, but I think you’re fundamentally misguided. I’ve had this very conversation with numerous former WP and Step players over the years (as you probably have had with former Iona players and New Ro players). For WP, beating Step is every bit as sweet as beating New Ro. So if WP didn’t beat New Ro during the year, then beating Step becomes EVEN MORE important. Its an opportunity to both make their season a success and to put a damper on the season of their archrival! In terms of injuries…3 weeks off from games will only help injuries heal, not make them worse.
On a separate note, I know its early but this crummy weather got me thinking…whoever gets through the Sect 1 AA playoffs is going to have a clear path to the NYPHSAA finals! Think about it – the 4 top teams upstate this year likely are Orchard Park (6), Pittsford and Rush-Hen (both Sect 5) and CBA Syracuse (3) – all 4 of those teams are on the other side of the bracket in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse areas. CBA might get challenged by West Genesee in Sect 3. Sect 9 is way down this year…particularly with MW getting screwed out of the playoffs – they get the bye. THe Sect 1 winner gets the Sect 2 winner in the QFs. Shenendowa has dominated all of Sect 2 this year, but its hard to tell how good Shenendowa is because of the lack of other top teams in Sect 2.
HOOPS
I SAID THAT BACK IN SEPT!!.. ABOUT GOING TO THE STATE!!
Prince, it is going to very interesting the next couple of weeks. I hopE we are sitting side by side at Kingston!!!
SHEN HAS VERY NICE RUNNING GAME THE RB IS PRETTY GOOD
Hoops/Prince, I want to believe as you guys do but this 3 games in 11 days has me concerned that who ever comes out of the Sect 1 will be too beat up. If New Ro et al have much more talent than the Sect 2 team, then I like New Ro et al chances. If the talent is close, I think this schedule will come back to bite them.
JUST
I AGREE THE WEAR DOWN FACTOR WILL KICK IN!!...I’M HOPING NOT!!.. ALSO AFTER PLAYING IN THE QUIK SAND IN NORTH ROCK THER LEGGS WILL BE SHOT!!!
Prince, lololol!!!! I heard come Tuesday the Field will look like the Kentuck Derby track!!
And the condition is MUDDY!!
JUST
LOL!!....@ KENTUCKY DERBY!! THER STOMPING GRAPES ON IT AS WE SPEAK!!... CASS IS SPEAR HEADING IT!!
Prince, watching my TV and guess who was burning Rutgers for a TD, your favorite 4.4 kid, from West Virginia, Tavon Austin!!
PS. You know Casarella the Great enjoying his coaching retirement!!
USC blew it
just
tavon 4.4 man!!.... lol speed kill
wow, Iona almost pulled off a great upset. Going for 2 must’ve been the theme this week. Congrats to Iona on a great effort. One thing is clear – with their QB problems the last few weeks, St As is a beatable team – the last 3 weeks St As has scraped by Xaverian, Cham and Iona. They also struggled against HC earlier in the year when the QB didn’t play well. The one thing to note is in all four of these games even when they haven’t played great, St As has still managed to get the win. They must be doing something right. I think this years CHSFL playoffs could be wide open. Mount/St As in QFs could even be interesting if Mount plays well.
Hoops fan
Do you know what the seedings are?
Hoops
Iona played a great game!! And they played “hard” for 4qtrs!! And like I said they have one of the top 2 defenses in westchester
