Rye vs JJ Two very evenly matched teams with different styles of play. I said earlier that they will meet in the semi’s and I predicted JJ in a squaker 21-17. I still hold to that, but this could go either way.
If Rye pulls out a win and faces POK this will be a rematch of a classic 2 years ago, and be a very interesting match-up. POK has more speed and talent on Offense, but Rye sets the edges very well and is big and tough at the point of attack. If Rye can contain Oliver and keep him inside the have a chance, if they allow POK to make big plays it’s POK’s game going away. I think if the game happens POK will make just enough of those big plays to take the game 27-17
If JJ wins the Rye match-up I see a simalar senairio with POK over JJ
In the mud
WEirdly people are crowing how Rye dominated. Meanwhile they needed a tipped interception for 7 points to help them win the game. Pearl River is hopefully an up and coming team, not a one season wonder. Playing in the mud was great, I’d rather see that then playing on turf in the rain. This was throwback football. The better team did win, Rye’s line on O and D are just bigger than Pearl Rivers. Poughkeepsie looks pretty darn tough though. They made childs play out of Harrison.

When you caught the “Rye kids” writing on the rock what did you do? Oh, you just assumed it was “Rye kids”.
Huh? I really question why you would blame “Rye kids” for writing over a rock. What would lead you to fix blame on “Rye kids”?
The Harrison game has come and gone and thoughts of Harrison are NOT on the minds of Rye – except for adults that blog. You are showing disrespect by fixing blame on “Rye kids” without any way to back up claim.
I would doubt that anyone in Rye would know that there is a rock dedicated to anyone. I certainly didn’t. Any thought about Harrison has come and gone in the mind of “Rye kids”. Perhaps Harrison fans are still thinking about that.
By the way, what was written on the rock ? Comments about the drug arrest of the Asst. Coach?

We heard that Harrison kids are all juveniles ? All kids are juveniles Shakespeare. Did anyone EVER say that “ALL” Harrison kids are juvenile delinquints ? Of course not. But one certain blogger…an alleged adult….. claims this…then proceeds to go on and on attempting to encite trouble. I plan on going over there this week-end to see the “monument”. I hope the misguided Rye kids did not deface a monument. Is it just a spray painted rock? Either way…. the kids SHOULD be punished for doing it…but are they “my little Garnets” as Husky 10k stated last night ? Or are they just a few dopes who happen to be from Rye ?

In The Mud:
In other conditions the final would have been in the neighborhood of 28-7 or 35-7. Weather and field conditions often are great equalizers. How many times were the Pirates across midfield? I believe once on the one and only final PR drive when the Pirates scored on a mixed Rye defense of starters and subs. Dino even subbed in the last three minutes with the score 14-0.

Last time I checked, Rye wasn’t known as a “speed” team with a high powered offense. Rather, conventional wisdom says there big O and D line should have been more dominant in the mud..and that mud was a Rye advantage.
Sadly, there is a need to “explain” a win here.
More neutral observers would just say that PR played tough, or that Rye does not have an overwhelming offense, that 14 – 21 points is there norm…
PR
Pearl River is a very very good football team that does not get the respect it deserves. Rye capitalized on a lucky tipped pass and won the game. People say PR had an easy schedule? They beat Gorton, a team that hung with ossining yesterday, Nyack for the first time in 26 years, spring valley, and rival nanuet. Pearl River is a speed team running sweeps and jets to their advantage….with the field conditions being what they were it limited the playbook greatly. The Pirate defense this year was phenomenal. Proud to be a pirate.

Think twice, maybe YOU should have thought twice before posting. What was drawn on the rock that has been dedicated to Rob Viscome, a member of the 2002 state championship team that lost his life tragically during the season, was a penis in the lower left corner of the rock. In addition, the score of this year’s Harrison v Rye game was on the main rock that is painted over by the students in support of various things. The score of the game being spray painted on the rocks is not the issue, as it was done last year and it is not uncommon for the losers of “The Game” to have to see the score over and over again. However, spray painting a penis over a rock that has become a memorial to a former Husky football player the night of Harrison’s exit in the playoffs is a disgrace, and whoever is responsible should be ashamed.
Unfortunately, the acts done by this person don’t end there, as from what I’ve heard is that in addition to the penis on Viscome’s rock (which I’ve seen a picture of), there is a second rock dedicated to former Harrison High School student and band member Marissa Pagli, who lost her life whilst in her freshman year at Manhattenville College in the terrible murder-suicide from 2 years ago. Apparently that rock has spray paint all over it, although I’m not sure to what extent the previous memorial is covered up. Regardless, a truly awful act by any human being, regardless of this being a town rivalry.
Last, I know you questioned the idea of how we know it was “Rye kids.” First off, I doubt very much that other kids would be interested in stirring the pot by writing the score of this year’s game on the main rock. If that’s not good enough for you, we have proof. Jake Meyerson, the now tailback for Rye High School, messaged from his Facebook account to the Facebook account of a current Harrison football player, where he wanted to inform him and guarantee to him that it was NOT a Rye football player that is responsible. HOWEVER, he did mention in this message which we have saved that he (Meyerson) DOES know who is responsible, and this is how he can guarantee that it was NOT, I REPEAT NOT, a Rye football player.
I won’t delve into whether or not Meyerson should reveal the kid or not, but for the blogger who posted under the name “think twice before placing blame” to post, CLEARLY without having a clue what is going on, is hypocrisy to its full extent.
Obviously this is not a football issue, and people not from either Harrison or Rye will care much, and I understand that. BUT, if the issue is going to be discussed on this blog at all, everyone should know what REALLY happened.

Hey, grafitti is bad, defacing property is bad. It certainly is not innocent mischief. if perp’s are caught they should be punished justly.
Would it be common knowledge, or apparent, to a Rye kid that these rocks are dedicated as memorials for former Harrison students? If so, that crosses an even bigger line of insult.
But if in the dark and rain it just looks like a rock with other painting on it, than its only on the level of the North-South incident….a bad thing, but not intentionally insulting a sacred memorial.

it is one thing to engage in a rivalry through sports. but to disrespect a man who did nothing to you and draw penises on his memorial is wrong. you have not only offended the viscome family and friends. but the town of harrison.

Lion,
The rocks were never dedicated as memorials until the Viscome incident, but that was in 2002. Normally the rocks are painted when there is a big upcoming game, such as when students paint them in anticipation of the Rye-Harrison game. Shortly after Viscome passed, one of the biggest rocks was painted with a representation of his Huskies jersey and it read R.I.P. Because that was 8 years ago, the rock had been through several weather seasons and was starting to crumble away as well as fade, so it was repainted I believe last year as it is now, in which the rock reads “77.” I’m not sure if it still says R.I.P. on it or not, but I find it hard to believe that after 9 years and because it was a very publicized event, well known not only to the common Harrison resident but Rye as well, that this person didn’t know that the rock was painted in his honor. In light of the memorial to Viscome, students 2 years ago requested and were granted the honor to dedicate a smaller rock off to the left to their passed friend who was only 1 year removed from Harrison High School, which has stood as a memorial since. I am almost certain that rock said R.I.P on it somewhere at the time of this incident.
Nothing would make me believe that this person did not know that they were defacing rocks used to remember these passed students, and quite frankly it was a disturbing act. R.I.P both Rob and Marissa.

Isn’t it ironic that Bronxville(Class C) is better than Rye(Class A), but Rye wasn’t better than Harrison during the last decade because Rye got to compete against a weaker set of Class B teams, and Harrison would get beaten down by the stronger Class A teams before they met ? How many times has that anology been posted here, and where is it now ?
jim
I, for one, did not use “mud” as the reason for the small margin of victory by Rye…I only implied that sitting on a 14-0 lead was smart football under those conditions. A team like Bronxville, for instance ,with a great coaching staff, would have played their hand the same way if they were playing under the same weather conditions and leading by a couple of scores. For the most part “matching scores” is a mistake when evaluating football teams. Pearl River has come a long way in a short time. I hope they can keep up their progress, and make their football program as successful as some of the other great sports teams that they produce every year.

Who ever keeps blogging about that rock, enough is enough. I have no idea what if anything was written on that rock by Rye students, but did notice at the GAME this year it was covered with all kinds of words and scores already. A tragedy yes for that very young boy, as well as the girl, but no one other than HHS students know that it’s a memorial stone. Perhaps just totally clean the rocks up and plant a tree and place a bench for these young students and most certainly it will never happen again. THE GAME is over!!!!! Your season is over. Jim,
Im with you 100% on class A vs class C thinking. In one game bronxville may win against any class A team, maybe not Pok though. But if bronxville played a competitive class A schedule each week, they would not go undefeated and perhaps would wear down as the uear went along.
Finally comgrats for Rye how they turned aound season.

For those who say Rye got a lucky score based upon the tipped pass interception, Pearl River’s only TD, with 30 seconds remaining, certainly qualifies as very lucky. as it came on a tipped pass. Rye player looked to have the ineterception but it went off his hands.
It's in the cards
Luck? You make your own luck on the field, sometimes.Great interception. But luck won’t be there all the times. You can’t “luck your way” into a section or state title, that takes skill.

Anyone who thinks that the Rye kids defaced the rock dedicated to either one of the Harrison students should check out the pictures on Harrison Patch. They were wrong to paint 17-7 and a phallic symbol on an adjacent rock and should be punished, but they did not deface the memorial rocks. Again…kids are just stupid sometimes. I am also glad to hear that it wasn’t any of the players. As a rule, players from all schools have too much respect for one another to get involved with this kind of crap.
