It’s been a busy morning/afternoon here at the blog headquarters. I’ve been trying to gather information about who practiced today and who didn’t, and how that affects their scrimmage schedules.
Here’s a few notes from today:
— There will be changes to the scrimmage schedule. For those who don’t know, according to the NYPSHSAA, teams must hold 11 practices before participating in a scrimmage. Double or triple sessions only count as one practice. Not surprisingly, there were only 11 practice dates between the first day of practice on the 19th and Thursday, which was scheduled to be the first day of scrimmages for many (but not all) teams.
For example, three teams I can confirm are now unable to participate in Thursday scrimmages: Dobbs Ferry and Rye Neck at Hen Hud and John Jay at White Plains. None of the three practiced today. Fox Lane and Briarcliff did not practice as well. It would affect their status for Ossining on Thursday, but Ossining may shift its scrimmage until Friday.
— It appears multiple fields were damaged. Among them are White Plains, Bronxville and Rye. A reader told me the water at Rye rose as high as the fourth step on the Nugent Stadium bleachers. Athletes were working on the field this morning. White Plains coach Skip Stevens told me his team practiced at Highlands School today. The field experienced some bubbling and will be repaired this week.
— White Plains RB/DB/KR Darrell Everett returned to practice. According to Stevens, Everett was back the second day of workouts, Aug. 20. He has been there since but will be held out of scrimmages on both Thursday and Saturday.
— I have booked more stops on the camp tour. In a bit, I will head out to the following four schools: Westlake, Pleasantville, Ossining and Lakeland.
I also plan on touring the Rivertowns on Tuesday. That will include stops at Hastings, Dobbs Ferry and Ardsley. I hope to visit Irvington as well, but have not confirmed that as of yet.
