When the city they long called home announced it would cancel its summer youth basketball program, former New Rochelle basketball stars Rashiem and Rasaun Young decided they would fix the situation.
As they saw it, it’s something the New Ro community would have done for them. So why not return the favor?
The Youngs have organized and funded the six-week league, the New Roc Classic. It runs through the second week of August and will include three age divisions: 10 and under, 12 and under and 14 and under.
There are 24 teams in the league, including teams from Westchester, Harlem, and the Bronx.
“We are running a league that creates a diverse atmosphere,” Rashiem said. “We want to see the up-and-coming talent, so our plan is to run this until we are old and gray. It’s our way of staying connected with basketball.”

Great story and great job by the Young Brothers of giving back. More NRYTL products doing well for the New Ro community.
The story mentioned no sponsors as of yet. How can we contribute?
Know them both well. Two excellent “young” men. Great story.
