The third annual Big Apple Shootout has been scheduled for Saturday, June 11 at White Plains High School. The 7-on-7 passing tournament will feature 16 teams from the area and is set to begin at 1 p.m. (If there’s a rainout, it will be pushed to Sunday.)
The event is set up for a 16-team bracket. Each team is guaranteed three games. Winning teams can play a maximum of six games apiece.

“youth ball” that’s funny. and it’s funny you should say that, reminds me of a comment i heard last season. I was at Yorktown watching a game, they were playing Ossining. Yorktown was bullying Ossining with their size and strength, only chance was using the passing game, letting that big QB sit back in the shot-gun and pass. Anyway, almost the whole 1st qtr before they call a pass play and its a trick, halfback pass, by a kid with no arm and of course a pick. Late second half, when they sterted to run a hurry-up, shot-gun passing scheme, they sstarted to move the ball. These two guys were next to me, from Oss, I guess, and one guy says, “that’s the Oss coach, so thick headed, won’t try something new even when it seems to work! they’re calling plays like a modified or jv team”
Long story but I thought it was funny then and when you said youth ball, it cracked me up again.

Let me give you guys a coaches point of view…
To run a true spread, run and shoot, type of offense, you need many parts to be insync. The protection, throwing(timing needs to be perfect), running the route, and catching all needs to be in harmony together. The public schools here in NY anyways, dont have that kind of time to work with players. They are playing other sports throughout the year and its a unwritten rule that players are off-limits when they are in another season.
This is not texas, the coaches arent full time coaches and the kids arent 1 sport athletes. We cannot practice year-round like other places or have PE classes strictly for football.
Furthermore, most players here in NY are 2-way players, so with them playing the whole game both ways cuts down their speed to run a true spread offense.
Some of you guys need to stick to watching oregon play and leave the coaching to the coaches.

PPR – - you have to consider enrollment in Fla, Texas, and Cali are much bigger then a NY School. Can you name a High School in Section 1 with a enrollment from 3,500 to 5,000?

ther are a couple of schools with 3,500 in new york state the days of the 5,ooo enrollment is no longer in the state i remember when dewitt clinton had 5,5oo kids kennedy in the bronx 4,500 but they have since broken the nyc schools down
new ro has i believe 2,800 and they have another 400-500 at st. gabes

that is a good question but they are saying florida smalls schools are better then our largest classifications!!... and remember what i posted before just about what the florida h.s. coach said to me about the state of florida only having 12 colleges that play football and they do not have d2 or d3 football in the hole state!!.. i dnt’ know if florida schools enrollment hits 5k maybe texas but i dn’t think cali is either if they do it’s not alot

NYSPHSAA does not allow mandatory practices beyond the end of the Post Season or before the specific start date. This year it’s Aug. 19th.
That’s another reason why 7v7s and minicamps are great for developing teams. It generates interest because it’s competitve and fun.

Prince—i went to school in Florida and i can name a few schools that do have over 5k students—Spanish River HS, Plantation HS, Palm Beach Gardens HS and there is one near PGA Blvd i cannot remember the name, but they do exist in Fla

Wow – - the schools i mentioned are all a tad under 3k enrollment, alot has changed since the mid 90’s. I know more schools have been built, and if any of you go to South Fla, shopping center or building go up so quickly down there. So i could imagine more school were built to make enrollment slimmer in some parts.

Really the numbers- are down!! I thought 5k was alot down ther but ther trying to cut down the large enrollment
All the schools i mentioned are just under 3k, i remember in 88 – 89 i went to Boca Raton High School for one year, Boca High was at 3,500 and Spanish River was at 4,800. Now, both schools are down meaning more schools were built and there cutting down on busing

Twitter – Interesting, you were a Qb and a outside LB. Did you start at both positions and did you play both? I never heard of a starting Qb then play starting Lb, usually coaches save there Qb from getting injured, so most starting QB’s play FS or SS

Holy Cross in NYS CHSFL was 4-6 and ranked #6, so that tells me football in CHSLFL is top heavy. Its like the AFC North haha over the years
