The final boys basketball state rankings have been posted. Mount Vernon finished atop the state as the No. 1 team in Class AA.
The Knights are ahead of Christ the King and Boys & Girls, the two teams they beat en route to the state Federation title.
Salesian finished as No. 2 in Class B after losing at the buzzer to four-time Federation champ Collegiate.
Tuckahoe and Mount St. Michael are the only other top-five teams from the area. The Tigers were ranked No. 4 in Class C. Mount was No. 4 in Class A.

Two thoughts:
— Biondi should be ranked in Class D. I’m not sure what happened there, but Biondi played close until the final minutes with Coleman Catholic, the runner-up in Class D.
— New Rochelle should be ranked higher in AA. It lost to Poughkeepsie on free throws in the final minutes and should be right there with Poughkeepsie. New Ro beat two teams (Wings, Baldwin) ranked ahead of it. Both teams are probably (if not certainly) better than two of the teams that were in the state final four.

Hey Josh
Can you find out what the class A football rankings and schedule are, I know that they were doing it today, just not sure if it was completed.
Josh:
if you feel that way about new ro then how about stepinac in the a?
they lost to mount by 3 and st. mary’s by 3 and beat hayes.
ranking priver/kennedy/byram higher is almost laughable.
question… You’re 100 percent right. I didn’t mention Stepinac because I know the way the state rankings work. They are very, very much predicated on records. So although I am positive Stepinac is one of the 25 best teams in A, I didn’t expect it to garner much of a ranking. People who don’t see teams play put together the rankings, and they wouldn’t know Stepinac’s strength of schedule.
josh – thx for the quick response.
it almost seems as if they get penalized for playing better comp.
I find the NYS Sportswriter rankings to be pretty awful, particularly during the regular season. They finally gain some accuracy at the top of the list after the season is over, of course, because the state and fed playoffs makes it real easy for them. However, I pay them little mind either way.
Hastings at #22 in the state? with three wins all season against teams with winning records?
I just saw on the America Least web site that Simeon Marsalis ex New Ro Guard has left the Vermont Basketball team. He will remain enrolled at Vermont he just wont play anymore.
Where’s Iona at the top of the list? It’s all a fix
Boys and Girls beat Winter Park last night 63-58 in the Rise ESPN national tournament. Winter Park has the #1 player in the country, Austin Rivers is Doc Rivers son. Boys and Girls played the same players they did against Mt Vernon, so MV is looking better and better.
Wow, what a season for the bobats. They are 8th, who would ever have though a team that went 9-11 the year before, could be 19-6, section and regional winners the year after. The closest team in section one, without a doubt. LETS GO BOBCATS!
But will rankers use the win over Winter Park as an excuse to but B&G back over MV?
At this point I do not believe Boys and Girls can be ranked ahead of MV, no matter what B&G does in this tournament. It can only help MV.
I agree New Ro should be higher but remember they just beat Wings. Wings was missing their D1 guard in that game and it showed in the end.
the NY Sportswriter rankings are notoriously terrible. Ranking New Ro so low and not ranking Stepinac is absurd.
