I’ll have a few more stories to share on Mount Vernon tomorrow on the blog, but here’s one reward for the victor: The Knights have returned to the Top 25.
Mount Vernon was ranked No. 18 in the latest USA Today Super 25 after upending last week’s No. 14 Boys & Girls and unranked Christ the King this weekend to the the program’s fifth Federation championship.
From a ranking standpoint, the Knights came full circle. They began the year No. 14 in USA Today’s original Super 25 but were bounced in midseason. Of course, they suffered five losses during the regular season but rallied to win their last 10, including the first state title since 2007 and the first Federation crown since 2006.
It should also be noted that two of Mount Vernon’s losses came against Top 25 teams: No. 1 St. Anthony’s and No. 14 Montverde Academy.
USA Today will release its final Super 25 on April 5th.
Mount Vernon was unranked when Rivals released its last Top 100 on March 16. Boys & Girls was No. 37 and Christ the King was No. 56. St. Anthony’s was No. 1, Montverde was No. 26 and Taft, another team the Knights lost to, was No. 41.

Mike Quick wrong??? NO WAY!!!!! Dude picks who he roots for based on friendships and who “supports” his show/sponsors. He does a lot for HS sports, but he’s sometimes clueless
Mt Vernon Basketball is a storied franchise and well respected to say the least. Coach Cimmino is spoken about in the same reverence as Coach Bob Hurley of St Anthony.
Mt Vernon has proved to EVERYONE that they are the TRUE Champs both on and off the court!! Great job Knights!!
As far as Mike Quick is concerned….he did not give Jabarie Hinds of Mt Vernon the respect that he has earned and is well deserved. Mike Quick started to whine about his “boy” Tavon Sledge being past over for “Mr New York Basketball” on his show and never gave equal air time Jabarie; who by the way has won 5 Section I Gold Balls, starting as a 8th grader.
Then when Mt Vernon won the AA State Championship, there was Mike Quick again undermining and passing over their RECORD BREAKING accomplishment. 9 State Championships by one school and no mention of it from Mike Quick!! AND Mike Quick leaves Mt Vernon at the 8th ranking in the Tri-State. What a cry baby!!!!!!!!!!
What does Mike Quick show clips of….his boy Tavon Sledge and his coach being interviewed with a sour puss on his face who is also whining.
Mike Quick is not the least bit “fair and balanced’ nor impartial. Maybe he should start covering T-Ball in the spring.

in the grand scheme of things it means nothing. It really isnt important what a guy who works for msg varsity thinks or says about mt vernon hoops. If he chooses not to like them thats his choice. Get over it and move on.
