Pok vs new rochelle – the best chance for #1 in the state poukeepsie is to get torres in foul trouble and box out well for new rochelle, they have to press full court and clean up on the glass if I had to pick a team to win I wood say new rochelle 66 poukeepsie 66 (flip a coin in overtime) buckle up
Easy, POK/New Ro… winner gets to play MV.. Sorry PAC fans but the cold slap of reality is about to hit you in the face…. lets get it on
Haywood,
Lincoln leapfrogged Pok from #4 to become the new #1. Pok is still #2. They’ll have to earn that ranking on the court!!!
This Mahopac team reminds me of the Suffern team that beat Pok some years back. Pok were looking past them unto MV and went home with a 2 Point L. I hope the Knights dont fall victim to the same fate. The Indians are coming to White Plains!!!
Statesman, thanks for the info. Mv will be ready they know that pok and new ro will be watching so look dos great show they perform well when its gold ball time. The ? Is can jabarie get #5,answer I think so
PK v New Ro. No Doubt!
Playoff time is the second season.. Thats usually when MV plays it’s best in westchester..Of course you sometimes have refs who have an agenda to keep the game close resulting in 65 foot prayers and that’s what it takes to beat MV… My money is on the coach…
Mt Vernon tends to intimidate teams that come into the CC. I dont think you”ll see that with this Mahopac team, they are very compose with veteran players. I think the first few minutes of the game will dictate the outcome If the Pac can get thru the first 4 minutes ,which I think they will, this will be one of the best games of the week. Just feel they are playing with house money which should keep them loose.
Downes has played at CC who had legitimate shot at Section 1 Championship in 87-88, as a Coach he understands what it takes to win at CC, limiting runs, contesting shots, turnovers & making foul shots, the moment will not be overwhelming, enjoy every second of the expierence
Spacecadet,
Hilarious. Do we have to do this again? Sharrod missed two ft’s, Cimmino got out coached, MV point guard traveled, yada yada yada. Get over it. No 65 foot shot last year!
Just play this seasons games, its in the past! MV lost NFA won and its all history.
Good lord the only people involved left are the coaches Hinds and Scurlock.
I would be more concerned with beating New Ro the 3rd time or dealing with PK’s athleticism then worrying about Refs from a game 2 years ago. not to mention if you want to talk about refs how about the 07’ year when NFA was in the dbl bonus half way through the 3rd qtr and MV had 3 fouls. Come on bro!
How about these names – Ted Shirley,Kevin freeman names that mv fans will never forget
jmoose,
my point was how hard it is and sometimes what it takes to beat a team with a seasoned coach like Bob Cimmino. Like any sport I would look to the coach who makes adustments, has a plan and is in control of his players. He’s not going to win all the time, and once in a while but not very often will be out coached. I’ve watched his kids surprise the heck out of top NYC teams with much more talent many times… You can bet against him, but I won’t.
easy, tz pr
They are inner town rivals as well as good teams. All their games have been close and the CC will be filled to capacity. This game will have a great atmosphere and i recommend everyone to be there.
I’m looking forward to both AA games as well as the final. Those that think MV is invincible should remind themselves of that “eye opener” loss to White Plains a few weeks ago, plus the fact that they failed to step up and win ANY games against top national competition (correct me if I’m wrong, I’m just an upstate POK fan).
I could remind everyone that Josh picked White Plains as an upset alert over Poughkeepsie. Well since Poughkeepsie had 12 players score and won by 30, um, not so much. I won’t go too far, because he did pick PK, New Ro and MV to be in the final four, but if memory serves me right, I think he picked New Ro over PK here in the semis. I don’t see it happening…
Spacecadet,
I just re read your post just in case i mis interpreted it. I didnt. That wasnt your point lol… but its cool i wouldnt bet against Cimmino either. In fact I usually dont unless he is up against NFA. Great coach, Great Program and great kids usually spells success.
Slater, you have a lot swagger about your opinions, let me guess (you just want to stir the pot) ha ha ha
Haywood, yes, just like to stir the pot. Looking forward to seeing two good games next Friday and seeing if my predictions are correct (and if I’ll need to make another trip down to White Plains on Sunday)
Good luck but only on Friday
Josh, what are your reasons for placing tz over pr?
GOPHERIT… TZ has played great lately. So has Pearl River obviously, but few teams have played better than TZ. I also think TZ has more experience after winning the championship last season and that it is hungry to prove that wasn’t a fluke.
After having said all that, I think either team could win. I expect the game to be decided by six points or less no matter who wins it. It should come down to the fourth quarter, and maybe even in the final minute.
Haywood, thanks. You too
MV teams of the past six years of so carried D-I stud tandems/trios [D Gray K Benjamin J Mitchell M Coburn K Jones S. Wright J. Hinds]. Of late it seems to be the Jabarie Hinds show and if this ‘knight’ has an off night bad things can and do happen. That said, I do like their chances to repeat again, albeit, I am wary of this Pioneer squad from Po-town.
nice to see my bud…jmoose still taking no prisoners up the road in the “Burgh. If Will Bouton had never left Cornwall…our little basketball world would not nearly be as interesting a place as it is..!
MVHS65
p.s. jmoose..sorry to see that THR’s Varsity 845 is so cash strapped as to have to excise a subscriber’s fee to be able to post…I miss the good times up north.
TZ will crush PR> So mr.furdon can shut his mouth up
I think byram could beat Kennedy they have all starters who could score double digits. They are fast and perform well under pressure. This u saw against pelham
mvhs65,
Is it really you? Good to hear from you. THR is in trouble, circulation is way down as well as advertising. they also eliminated the boards all together which im sure you saw. Talked to witt about it last year and they decided to go with a format that requires you to sign in with a real google or yahoo account. The idea was to have some accountability on the boards. unfortunately it just scared everyone away.
I agree with your MV analsysis. It appears if the “rest” are off then they are vulnerable. I think both New Ro and PK have a shot to win it this year but we will see. Coach Cimino always seems to push the right buttons in the county center and whoever he coaches against doesnt. So it seems anyway.
My wish is for PK to get past both teams and for NFA & PK to meet in the regional game. that would just be an insane atmosphere. I believe it would be a first if they did. NFA has 3 more game to win berfore they get there so I dont want to put the cart before the horse.
Good luck to your Knights going forward. I will be at the county center next friday to see all the action.
Slater,
What are you talking about with the PK win over NFA being an easy one? NFA played horribly that day and still only lost by 11 up in PK. I dont think you guys want to see NFA in the regional game on a neautral court NOT in poughkeepsie.
jmoose [or anyone else]
Does anyone know what the venue for the Section 1 vs. 9 AA game this year?
Please don’t say Christl Arena! Nice gym but hell to onto the West Point “campus/fortress” plus you have to be a mountain goat climbing down the escarpment from the parking lot to the arena. I was always particular to SUNY NP but I understand that its’ limited seating capacity doesn’t work out well to meet the demand..Marist or Pace wouldn’t be bad for that matter.
p.s. Section 4 will be the host of the Section 1/9 winner on March 12th
I think it is the county center
The following week section 1 has home site games will be played at county center starting 3/8/11 aa- for sure boys and girls
jmoose – I’ll admit I was not at that game to formulate my own opinion on Newburgh’s team this year, had to relay on info received other ways, but 11 points is certainly not a nail biter. I hope that both of our teams make it far enough to provide that rematch. I won’t miss it!
mvhs65,
I believe section 1 hosts the first round so it would be at the CC, Marist or Pace. Sounds like the CC based on what haywood has posted.
Slater,
I am not sure that NFA has the horses either way to take down any of the sec 1 teams. That said I thought PK was a nice team, not great by any stretch of the imagination but played hard and seemed to share the ball. Dont shoot me its just my opinion. NFA played probably there worst game of the year and was in foul trouble the whole game and was still in position in the 4th qtr to steel it , thats why i questioned your comment. It wasnt as if they lost by 32 points and got blown out of the gym. I would sign up for a PK NFA regional game right now! I have been crying for that for the last few years. So next friday I am sitting with the PK faithful (with my goldback gear on) hootin and hollarin for the pioneers. Laffin has put alot of work in so he deserves a AA chip before the get moved to A next year. With Peekskill down PK could dominate next year at the A level thats for sure.
MV will destroy Pac. I was just at their scrimmage against Cardozo. MV killed them and they are 23-2. Pac isn’t ready for MV. They have jabarie hinds, who was scoring with ease and a shooting guard who shoots the lights out. He had about 5 3’s. No stopping MV !!
Not easy to shoot lights out at the County Center and im sure Jabare gets his but if the Pac can keep him to around 20 and stay in the game the first half they have the same shot White Plains had. Easier said then done but this is why they play the game.
Here we go: 1 quarter mv17 pac12 halftime mv37 pac25 third quarter mv60 pac41 final score mv78 pac61
Pj torres just tweeted that on Friday he will back up what he said about poukeepsie,uh oh
Pj is a damn idiot. pok is just seeing this and getting madder and madder. i hope they put this wannabe on his ass the first play of the game. if they do win, MV will beat them again
Players should leave tweeting and chirping to the fans, families and friends. Players need to focus on the next game…. sharpening their offensive/defensive skills, running their sets, and planning for their opponents.
Leave it to us to do the permutations of dream match-ups..I had a deja vu all over again, chuckle moment reading jmoose’s wish for a Newburgh-Poughkeepsie. Been reading about it for the past three years or so…and one day I hope he gets it…but I don’t think it’ll be this year.
prediction Mount Vernon three’s a charm over New Rochelle, 66-62.
Josh-
will there be a link to watch county center games?
