As I said earlier, tonight’s a big night of basketball. There’s plenty to highlight, with one event being the BCANY and WCBA’s Coaches vs. Cancer Week Tip-Off at Brewster High School. As you can see below, the three-game slate kicks off with Fox Lane and John Jay at 5, followed by Saunders and North Salem and Brewster and Gorton.
The coaches associations do an excellent job with Coaches vs. Cancer events. It’s an initiative picked up a few years ago by the BCANY. Around this time every year, you’ll see high school and college coaches parade the sidelines in suits and sneakers to help draw attention to the cause. Last year, Gorton and Sacred Heart played a game where even fans dropped off their sneakers at the door and had to donate a dollar to retrieve them. Every little bit helps, and events like the one tonight go a long way in raising money for a good cause.
Everyone knows someone who has been affected by the disease. So, if you’re out at a Coaches vs. Cancer event around the area over the next week or so, be sure to chip it. The coaches begin their push tonight to raise money.
As for tonight, check out my Mount Vernon updates tonight, either here or on Twitter. I’ll also pass along whatever updates I come across, but be sure to add yours as the night goes along in the comments section of this post. Enjoy your Friday!

Peekskill hasnt been great but they have the talent, just need to put it together. Theres a chance they wont even make it to the CC this year, but if they can win at byram hills tonight it should put them back in the discussion. It all depends on which team shows up.
Any updates Lefty? I couldn’t make it to the game tonight.
didnt go to the game but NCN twitter last update was peek by 3 with ball in closing seconds so barring collapse looks like they won. now gotta keep it going vs pelham tomorrow
Sucks but I don’t think I can make it tomorrow either. Maybe I will go to the Alumni Day stuff, but probably not the game.
Go North Rockland
North Rockland won on a half court shot a the buzzer. Pearl River was up 6-8 points all game. PR couldn’t get shots to fall for the last half of the 4th quarter, and a late T allowed NR to tie the game and retain possession to hold for the last shot. Good win for NR tough loss for PR
Josh is prob watching this game on SNY and reporting on it from his house
Jus kidding
MOUNT 59 STEPINAC 49.MARCH ON YE SONS OF MOUNT SAINT MICHAEL.THIS IS OUR YEAR.
Guest… And you probably heard about the North Rockland-Pearl River game via text.
Hey it was jus a joke
Jabari is putting on a clinic. He is playing out of his mind!
Mr Volo
This is without a doubt the year for our Alma Mater. Can’t remember a team this good since Winston graduated in ‘80. Would have to go back to the mid 70”s
MV is giving a fantastic effort right now. The other team is ranked very high in the country. Interesting and their margin of victory has been by around 40 and MV is still hanging in there. Impressive.
States, MV’s front court is getting beat up. St. Anthonys has too much size and strength. You are right though, great effort.
You are absolutely correct. Jabari is showing he can play against a top tier team. I don’t think anyone in Section 1 has those kind of big men around the state really not either, this game is just going to make them so much tougher.
Exactly they wont see a team with the same make up as St. Anthonys. They have played some outstanding comp already, but this is a different level. Tomorrows game will be excellent as well. I actually think they beat Rice. I also think St. Anthony is going to whack Boys. Boys is undisciplined and wild. If they get behind, they are going to force shots and lose their composure. St. Anthonys is going to make them pay for that.
To many second and third chance points, good job by Mr. Basketball(hinds)
Nice officiating at the Mount – Stepinac game tonight. I especially liked when Aguilar pushed Austin Taps down from behind and the Mount bench cleared out onto mid-court and nothing was called besides a regular personal foul on Aguilar. Should have been a flagrant on Aguilar and ejections and suspensions for every bench player that came out onto the court. Austin Taps showed a-lot of composure walking away. Does anybody know if the league can review incidents like this and hand down player suspensions?
GoCrusaders r u being sarcastic?
I was being sarcastic saying the officiating was nice. I was being serious about the rest.
how many jabarie drop
the 94-95 mount team was amazing too….they won the state and went like 30-1 only loss to rice in ot i believe…. Lockhart (pitt) dunlop (VTech) Fields (maryland) that was a GREAT team!
Jabarie had 22 MV got outrebounded 39-22 That was the difference in my opinion. St Anthony’s must have had10 put back baskets after missed shots was just to much for MV to overcome.
congrats to mr. baltimore getting 1,000 rebounds – has anyone in westchester ever done that?
officiating was very very bad tonight, nothing was done when mount bench cleared – not sure why?
any predictions on seeds for AA? tough to say because MV has two losses and pok is undefeated
Great Game at Pearl River. Tough atmosphere at Pearl River for the young guys on north Rockland. All Playing really good behind Shayne Martinez and Kareighn Joseph. NR really close the game out great. momentum clearly shifted when Joseph dunked on the fast break
sorry to hear about bench clearing.maybe somebody at game can shed a little more light on it.did stepinac coach approach refs and complain? from what i read aguliar had tech. called in iona game.he is good but it appears he wants the game to go his way. hayes game at hayes will be very tough.i can still rember walking down 4 flights of stairs and walking into gym with court another level below.anyhow congrats to baltimore,he seems to have head in right place and made smart choise of college.
NFA lost a tough at Bishop Loughlin last night. Up by 4 points with 1 min to go. 2 FTs by loughlin sends it to OT. Kid from BL hit an NBA 3 to start OT and I think NFA ran out of gas from there. Great game though, Back and forth and hard fought by both teams. Great experience for this young team. Bishop Maginn tomorrow at Siena. I finally feel like the season is starting. NFA has had 2 layoffs of over 2 weeks, very frustrating.
Great game last night at Pearl River. NR has put it stamp on the County by beating South twice Tappan Zee and Pearl River on the road. The North Rockland program has become the elite program in the County. They have 5 or 6 losses against County teams in the last 6 years and 6 league championships in a row with 1 County Championship. Josh is there any way you can verify my loss count?
