At yesterday’s Stepinac-Mount St. Michael basketball game, I spoke to Stepinac football coach Mike O’Donnell briefly. He said quarterback Tyrell Goodman will make an official visit to Akron next week.
Goodman, The Journal News Westchester/Putnam player of the year, has been offered a scholarship by Division I-AA Stony Brook and has received interest from a number of I-A and I-AA schools. One of them was Maryland, which visited the senior at Stepinac last month. However, O’Donnell said the situation at Maryland is unclear after Ralph Friedgen and his staff were fired recently.
Akron could be a comfortable fit for Goodman. The Zips went just 1-10 last season as they rebuild under former Notre Dame, Alabama, Wisconsin and Arizona assistant Rob Ianello, a Stepinac graduate from Port Chester.
I’ll keep you updated on Goodman’s status.
