Nothing like a little opening night buzz, and we have a few interesting results in I want to share. As always, please add details on any games you don’t see listed here already:
Lakeland 63, John Jay 51: In the semifinals of the Carolyn Conroy Memorial Tournament at Lakeland, Alex Perlman scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds to help break open a close game. John Jay led 26-25 at halftime in former Kennedy coach Tom Nelligan’s first game as coach of the Indians. Will Owen led John Jay with 19 points and made four 3-pointers. Mahopac 54, Briarcliff 51: In the semifinals of the Carolyn Conroy Memorial Tournament at Lakeland, Ryan Wagner hit a shot from just inside halfcourt at the buzzer for the win. I saw the result on Twitter from the North County News. It sounded like a very dramatic game. Maybe Mahopac will carry its late-game drama into hoops season. Wagner finished with 14 points and Anthony Annunziata added 11. Tim Blair led Briarcliff with 17. Brian Daniels added 11 in his debut since transferring from Panas.
North Rockland 55, Nyack 37: At North Rockland, Kyle Menard scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds and Kahreign Joseph added 14 and eight for the Red Raiders. Shayne Martinez scored nine points and had eight steals. North Rockland led by five points at halftime but broke the game open in the second half. Tre Beamon led Nyack with 10 points.
Ramapo 55, Nanuet 45: At Ramapo, the Gryphons rallied from a six-point halftime deficit and four-point deficit to start the fourth quarter. They outscored Nanuet 24-10 in the final period and were led by 21 points from David Haye. Michael Malone (14) and Aquell Dallas (11) were also in double figures for Ramapo. John Brezovsky (17 points) and Steven Guerriero (11) led the Golden Knights in scoring.
Eastchester 49, Yonkers 37: In the semifinals of the Eastchester tournament, Dave Solano scored 18 points for the Eagles. Freshman Jack Daly added 13 in his varsity debut. David Czerniawski led Yonkers with 20.
Sacred Heart 57, St. Agnes 42: At Sacred Heart, D’Andre McPhatter led the Irish with 14 points and 10 boards. Joel Villa added 11 on the strength of three 3’s.
Stepinac 66, Blessed Sacrament 45: At Stepinac, Conroy Baltimore scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds to pace three players in double figures for the Crusaders. James Chillemi added 12 and freshman Naim Thomas added 10 in his second varsity game. David Rucker led Blessed Sacrament with 18.
RCDS 54, Berkeley Carroll 33: In the first round of the Fieldston tournament, Alex Gendelman scored 17 points. Freshman Tyler Fernandez had 12. The Wildcats will play Fieldston in the championship game tonight at 7.
Keio 55, Palisade Prep 35: In the first round of the Keio tournament, Taka Kato and Shota Yosimura each scored 15 points. Brandon Tate had 12 for Palisade Prep, which played its first varsity game. Keio will play Greenburgh in the championship game tonight at 7. Palisade Prep will play Pawling in the consolation game at 3.
