3:03 p.m.: Aquinas won the coin toss and will receive to start the game. We should be underway here from the Carrier Dome momentarily as Harrison plays Aquinas for the Class A state championship.
3:05 p.m.: The game is underway with a touchback by Roberto Bruno. Aquinas will start at its 20.
3:06 p.m.: Aquinas opens with a 32 yard run by Mike Messina.
3:09 p.m.: Aquinas faced a fourth and 1 from the 39 and went for it. Duke Alvora and Robbie Mulderrig stopped it. Harrison takes over.
3:11 p.m.: For those asking, there is no website to watch the game. You find links to the audio here.
As for the game, two first down runs for Vinnie Nicita. Harrison is at the Aquinas 30.
3:15 p.m.: Harrison went for it on fourth and 4. Nicita hit Steve Ricciardi on a slant but James Tirella was whistled for a false start. Nicita then threw incomplete on fourth and 9. Aquinas ball at the 34.
3:18 p.m.: After a long reception on third and 7, Alex Acompora chases receiver down (he was the last man to beat) and strips the ball. Mike Callari recovers. Harrison ball, 1st and 10 at its 30.
3:20 p.m.: Three and out for Harrison. Nicita was stopped for no gain on third and 1.
3:22 p.m.: Another long run on first down. Aquinas is back in Harrison territory for the third time.
3:24 p.m.: Timeout Aquinas, which faces a third and 7 from the Harrison 43 with 1:30 to play in the first quarter. Aquinas QB Cory Benedetto has had plenty of time to throw. Harrison will need to generate more pressure. He can throw it.
3:26 p.m.: On third down, Duke Alvora pressured the QB and forced a wobbly throw. The play was ruled a simultaneous catch. Tanner Knox had it at first but Taylor Byrne got his hands on it as well. There was some confusion. Harrison fans were very unhappy about the call. The next play Tim Young ran for 31 yard TOUCHDOWN. Kick was good. Aquinas leads 7-0 with 46 seconds left. Huge swing of momentum.
3:30 p.m.: End of the first quarter, Aquinas leads 7-0. Acompora lost a yard on first down, his first carry of the game. Ricciardi has still yet to touch the ball, so those two need to be more involved.
3:33 p.m.: Three-and-out for Harrison. Acompora ran for -5 on third and 9. Aquinas will take over at its 38.
3:36 p.m.: Big play. Messina runs for 38 yards on third and 2. Acompora tried to strip the ball from him and Messina picked up an extra 15 yards or so on the run. Not good for the Huskies, who have now allowed Aquinas in their territory on all four drives this game.
3:40 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN Aquinas. On fourth and 18, Benedetto hits Chris Bostick for a 24-yard touchdown. Kick is good. 14-0.
3:42 p.m.: Benedetto made an excellent throw to the back-right pylon. Ricciardi was there on defense but stopped running while the ball was in the air. He jumped for it and it sailed just over his hands.
3:45 p.m.: Back to back completions for Nicita gives Harrison a first down at the 39.
3:48 p.m.: Nicita hits Charlie Drago for a first down on third and 6. Nicita has made three great throws today. Art Troilo may have to let the sophomore air it out. I don’t think the Huskies can run successfully on Aquinas.
3:50 p.m.: Nicita just hit Ricciardi for 13 yards to make it third and two. Harrison called a timeout with 2:07 to play in the half. Big play, obviously, upcoming. That was Ricciardi’s first touch of the game.
3:52 p.m.: First down. Knox picks up three yards on third down. Nicita is 4 for 4 for 48 yards on this drive.
3:55 p.m.: Timeout Aquinas with 18 seconds to play in the half. It’s fourth and 4 after Nicita threw his first incomplete pass on this drive. He’s now 6 for 8 for 60 yards. He had completed six straight on this drive alone before the incomplete. Harrison will go for it on fourth down.
3:58 p.m.: False start against the Huskies. Harrison’s Bruno attempted a 34-yard field goal but it was wide left. However, Aquinas was whistled for roughing the kicker. Huge play (potentially). First down Harrison with just 11 seconds to play, ball at the 8.
4:01 p.m.: Pass interference, Aquinas. 1st and goal at the 4 with six seconds to go.
4:02 p.m.: Nicita is intercepted in the end zone by Aquinas’ Jahmahl Pardner. The pass was intended for Drago but was thrown high. Pardner, who is a long 5-foot-11, reached behind his body to reel in a fantastic catch.
Halftime: 14-0 Aquinas. Harrison ball to start second half. Halftime stats to follow.
4:19 p.m.: Halftime stats —
Score: 14-0 Aquinas
1st downs: 8-6 Harrison
Rushing yards: 20 for 49 Harrison; 11 for 140 Aquinas
Passing: 6 for 9 for 61, INT for Harrison; 5 for 9 for 67, TD for Aquinas
Total offense: 29 for 110 for Harrison; 20 for 207 Aquinas
Punts: 2 for 82 for Harrison
Kickoff returns: 1 for 14 for Harrison
Fumbles: 1 for Aquinas (1 lost)
Penalties-yards: 3 for 15 Harrison; 3 for 18 Aquinas
Possession: 16:29-7:31 Harrison
4:23 p.m.: Harrison received the second half kickoff. Acompora is tackled at the 18, which is where Harrison starts 1st and 10.
4:28 p.m.: Good start for the Huskies. Knox just gained 19 yards and Harrison is down to the 28 of Aquinas.
4:30 p.m.: Timeout Aquinas with 7:29 left in the third quarter after Ricciardi picks up eight on his first carry of the game. (Yes, his first carry.)
4:34 p.m.: On third and 3 from the Aquinas 5, Nicita fumbles snap and falls on it at the 7. On fourth down, he threw into triple coverage. The ball was tipped by an Aquinas defender and Acompora made a shoestring catch with his fingertips an inch from the turf in the end zone. TOUCHDOWN Acompora. It’s now 14-7 with 4:46 to play in the third. Harrison is back in it. That drive chewed up all 7:14 of this half. It went 82 yards in 13 plays.
4:39 p.m.: Three-and-out. Another comeback for Harrison? Husky ball at their 39.
4:42 p.m.: Miscommunication between Nicita and Knox on third and 2. They ran into each other and Knox lost his helmet but Nicita picked up the first down.
4:44 p.m.: Strange play. Nicita overthrew Ricciardi deep as he was hit. Ricciardi reacted well to it, seeing the Aquinas player would intercept the ball. He loaded up and hit the defensive back hard. The ball came loose, so it looked like it should be either a fumble or an incomplete pass. However, on the replay you could see the Aquinas player fumbled once he hit the ground, so the INT stood (and should have).
It’s now the end of the third quarter. Aquinas up 14-7. It has 1st and 10 at its 33.
4:48 p.m.: Aquinas back in Harrison territory after another long run for Messina. First down at the Harrison 36.
4:51 p.m.: Jason Falasca tackled Messina at the 19 for no gain on third and four forcing a field goal. Eric Terhaar nailed the 36-yard attempt, so it’s 17-7 Aquinas wiht 8:11 to play in the game.
4:54 p.m.: 19-yard gain for Knox to move the ball to midfield.
4:55 p.m.: Fourth and 5. Harrison will go for it. Timeout Harrison, as the play clock was down to five seconds.
4:58 p.m.: Aquinas’ big Jarron Jones, who has been the best player on the field today, jumped into the neutral zone. First down Huskies.
5:01 p.m.: On fourth and 10, Nicita threw deep for Tirella but the ball was intercepted at the Aquinas 4. Aquinas ball.
5:03 p.m.: Timeout Harrison with 3:47 to play. Third and 12 for Aquinas at the 2. Only one timeout left for the Huskies.
5:07 p.m.: Aquinas punted out of its own end zone. On third down Benedetto went long, had an open man but missed him. Harrison opted not to rush the punt. Husky ball at the Aquinas 38.
5:08 p.m.: Third and 16 from the 44 with 2:44 to play.
5:09 p.m.: Wow! Drago catches a bounce-pass lateral from Nicita. He pretended like it was incomplete and then threw deep. Riccardi made a leaping catch at the 5. Incredible play.
5:12 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN Harrison. Nicita hits Ricciardi for five yards and the score. However, Bruno missed the extra point, so it’s 17-13. Huge miss. There’s just 2:28 remaining. Harrison will have to onside kick with only one timeout.
5:14 p.m.: Aquinas recovers onside kick at its 49. There’s 2:26 left. It’s going to be awfully tough.
5:15 p.m.: Timeout, Harrison. That’s its last. There’s 2:20 to play, 2nd and 9 form midfield.
5:17 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN Aquinas. With Harrison pressing forward on second and 9, Messina goes 50 yards for the score. It’s now 24-13 with 2:06 to play. Looks like Harrison will come up short.
5:23 p.m.: Harrison gives it to Knox on fourth and 22. He picks up 19. It’s Aquinas ball with 56 seconds remaining.
5:25 p.m.: FINAL — Harrison falls 24-13. Aquinas wins its second state title in four years.

And the best player on the field was hands down the big defensive lineman from Aquinas, it’s scary to think he’s only a junior. For those who weren’t at the game this kid is the most physically gifted HS player I’ve seen since Sam Maldonado, listed at 6’7 305 and extremely athletic, although his ht and wt seemed a little generous (I’d say a 6’5 280). Get well soon Charlie, we need you to handle that kid in our rematch next year!!
HUSKY 92
Your dad always brags about you, but you should consider asking him say a few prayers to St. John McGillicuddy on your behalf. Not only are you blatantly wrong about everything you wrote tonight , you are supposed to be a grown man. If you were a Husky in 92 that makes you about 35 years old. You need to go out and throw some eggs at cars or something theraputic to burn off all that stress. You need some help.

One person from Rye who comes on here and rags on Harrison does not make” Rye Fans” a jealous tqwn of Husky haters. You are kidding yourself if you don’t think there are a few wing nuts in Harrison that would be doing the same thing if the roles were reversed? Does the name Husky92 ring a bell? Also….O’Callaghan( a captain) returned a kick off and punt for TD’s in Rye’s first game before severely injuring his foot. He tried his best to get back in the line up, but he never healed. He was supposed to be the speed in the Rye attackand a major receiving force in the passing game as well as the center fielder of the defense. He wasn’t just a safety as you put it. Matt McReddie (another captain ) was the opening day starter at both offensive guard and was probably their best linebacker before injuring his knee in week 1….missing the rest of the season. That’s two captains who never got off the field…out for the year. If you wre to compare these guys to guys from Harrison…McReedie/Bonistall and O’Callaghan/Accompora Rye didn’t have the depth that they have had in recent years and as luck would have it this was a year that they had the most injuries over the last decade or so. All Scott said was if Rye was healthy it “COULD” have been us… not would…Could.
Whats your address, i will throw eggs at your house and toliet paper. I love how half the Rye degenerate fans are still on here trying to rub it in. Your team was done 5 or 6 weeks ago. GO AWAY if you r going to be jerks! If you dish it our JIM, im going to give it back to you old man! Do not get personal w/ me A@# hole. For your info JIM, Harrison won Class A Section more then Rye. Harrison won Class A the secong year in this Class. Why am i arguing w/ you? You r a complete idiot! Back to the Facts, Harrison Class A Champions, Harrison the Champions of Public Schools! How about them apples Rye fans. Jim, why r you blogging at 2am, medication not working?
For your info Jim, i was always supportive of Rye during there runs. I have alot of Rye friends. I am right about Dino. So get your facts straight, so go piss on fires, go clean your dalmation. And play w/ your fire horn. You r wrong! What r u drunk at 2am?
92 could be my football # dummy
the season is over, and i want to say goodby….it was nice and a pleasure reading and blogging…........what do I do now …..ITS THE JETS TIME TO GO TO THE SUPER BOWL ,I AM A GIANT FAN BUT I LOVE THE JETS ALSO …..THERE IS NO HATE IN ME …..SEE YOU NEXT YEAR …I HOPE AND PRAY
Congrats to Harrison on a great year- Aquinas is one of the top programs in the State who attracts kids to their program- Getting this far to the Championship is a great accomplishment.
I’ve really enjoyed watching this team’s run. These have been some of the best and most entertaining high school games (including the Rye game and last night’s) that I have seen in a long time. Certainly the best string of games I’ve ever seen, and I doubt that those trashing the Huskies have seen them play in this stretch. This team shows what high school football is really about – athletics, heart, a never-quit attitude, and leaving it on the field. I’ve seen it in many teams over the years; in Rye, Harrison, and elsewhere. (This is what makes the Rye-Harrison rivalry so great.) They all need to be congratulated and celebrated if this and their achievements no matter who they are. I doubt the sour-bloggers have ever even played a down or, if they did, have ever contributed to their teams in any meaningful way at any level of true competition. I know that because those that did know exactly what I am talking about and never write the kind of drivel on this blog.
Congratulations to the 2010 Harrison Huskies for a truly special season.
here here FootballFan…now that’s a football fan in the truest sense…Hats off to the Huskies on a great year and to all these kids from top to bottom who put their hearts and souls into this from the hot days of July to the end. The effort you all have shown will carry through for all of you in other avenues of life that you might not be able to see at this time but will most certainly down the road.
Wing t guy,
What I meant by the Superintendents getting involved with Class A football next year was to make sure the AD”S put the time and effort in putting together a balanced schedule and fair leauges. There is no reason for a devlopmental leauge if done right. At present, the AD”S seem to think they need to get it done in one 6 hour sitting. Thats crazy. That leads to agreeing just to go home. There should be no time limit. If it takes 3 days to get it right, so be it. The AD”s get paid good money. One thing the AD’s are afraid of weather they admit to it or not are the Superintendents.
To All: Harrison had a good run. Give them their due and move on. This is not about Rye in anyway, shape or form.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight.
Congrats to HHS on a great year. More schools should have the fan support that they do.
I grew up in Section 1, lived on LI for 6 years and have seen many games in both the Catholic and Public leagues down there. Everyone should be thankful that they are not involved in the state play-offs because the top teams in LI are way ahead of anyone in section 1, at any level D thru AA. Just a different different culture. Example, I went to a JV game at St. Anthony’s in Huntington last weekend and there were over 3,500 people at the game.
Don’t think LI will ever change becuase they play more games and feel the Nassua/Suffolk Championship or winning CHSFL is much more important than a State Championship.
Husky 92 has serious issues. I feel sorry for him and his family.
Watch Nicita over the next two years. Like Eck, (although not the same “type” of player) he has a chance to be real special. He handled this run extremely well, and it has given him the type of football education rarely seen for a sophomore QB. Couple that with his terrific attitude and ability….....
Beating the same teams every year is more meaningful than winning the State Title? I do not want to discount what you guys see. I would love what the Coach of St. A thinks. I would bet he would like to compete against the best teams in the State. It would be more meaningful for St. A and for the State.
Watching New Ro vs. Troy, it was a game of two running teams no real passing, but I find it hard to believe there are much better teams than the ones I saw last week. How much better Coached can teams be? The Athlete’s are there. Harrison and Aquinas right there as well I would assume. LI and CHSFL over-rated, the rest of NYS publics under-rated!
Congrats Huskies and all NY Publics that play in the Tournament!
To all those focusing on the Harrison/Rye rivalry:
Rye Harrison rivalry has always been cyclical in nature. With Rye’s run this decade, they have narrowed the margin (I believe to 41-36 all time?). Don’t forget Harrison had an 8-game win streak of their own, and they dominated the win-loss column in the 90’s. This year’s loss, while stinging for us Husky fans, does nothing to diminish their accomplishments. Nobody expected them to win the section, let alone go to the Dome.
Somebody from Rye Neck shouldn’t be bashing anyone, especially about football victories. To all you bashers, you are all jealous of Harrison’s accomplisments this year.GET A LIfe ,they could have just folded after Rye,but sucked it up winning sectionals, and then making it to State final.Thank you boys for making a great run,and just falling short,it was a great ride.
Everyone just stop going back and forth with this nonsense. Harrison barely lost to year this year. It was a close game. What should we say – Credendino was hurt at that game. Our playoff games – we played with multiple injuries. We can keep going back and forth – for what? How about giving all these kids no matter what team a big round of applause. We seem to forget they All start working hard from the summer on. Most schools in our area don’t Draft players. Someone wlll always feel the pain of loss. BOTTOM LINE they are all winners. They work hard and maintain good grades. For all of you out the I do say CONGRATULATIONS to our Harrison Huskies. We went father then anyone imagined or even hopes for. I as one fell very complete today!
RYE GUY, WE DID SCARE THE HELL OUT OF AQUINAS IN THE SECOND HALF…AND IT WAS WITNESSED AMONG THE AQUINAS FANS ,..... WHO WERE USE TO BLOWOUTS…..AND AS FOR THE RYE BLOGERS….REMEMBER HARRISON HAD A STREEK OF 8 WINS IN A ROW ….BE CAREFUL , WHAT YOU SAY, CAUSE THINGS AND TIMES CHANGE
harrison losing made my year that much better…not only did rye beat them, i had an amazing thanksgiving with my family and i got to see harrison lose all their dreams in the state finals..IT SUCKS to be in in Harrison’s position doesnt it
About the game:
Great ride! A few breaks went against Harrison especially in the first half. They were definitely able to play with them and could have won. Aq knew they were in a game.
Here are the plays that hurt them:
-Motion penalty against Tirella on the slant catch by Richardi on the Aq 26 on their first drive. They did not pick up the first down after that. Would have been great to go up 7-0
-INT by Knox…called dual possession which was totally wrong.
-4th & 18 TD…ouch!
-End of half not scoring…ouch!
-Almost blocked the punt in the second half with the score 14-7
-Was that possession on that INT when the ball popped out when the Aq player hit the gound??
The last TD was after the onsides kick.
Harrison had more first downs & time of possession. Really dominated the second half.
Harrison loses a lot, but hopefully this motivated the kids for next year.
Well said FootballFan and I know that 99.9999999% of Rye fans like myself feel the same way.
COMMON SENSE ….YOU DO MAKE SENSE GOOD POST AND AS FOR COOKOO,COOKOO ...YOU WISH YOU HAD THE RESPECT ALL OF MY 5 SONS HAVE …I DEVELOPED 5 VERY GOOD LOOKING ,INTELLIGENT AND SUCCESSFUL SON….WHAT CAN YOU SHOW FOR YOUR SELF YOUR NAME FITS YOU VERY WELL
Husky 92…Have you forgotten that you have posted numerous times about the Harrison fans running on the field after your victory against Rye ? I think it was in ‘91? I could care less what your number was, but I’m sure you still wear it to the games. Did you miss sitting in the end zone with the rest of the over the hill gang this year? I know your dad set you up in the landscape business…I at least had to pass a test to get my job. Too bad you had to be out of town on the last good leaf raking week-end of the year…. don’t worry, it will probably be eight more years until you go bye-bye to Syracuse again…..see you in the fall Fredo.
Proud of the Huskies.Way to go on a fantastic season.
jim, do me a favor and leave husky 92 alone…..also he cant read your posts cause he is working 10 hours a day and cant read posts any more….also he is the security guard at nite, at SCORES IN THE CITY
Jim, wow trying to exspose me on the blog. You have no idea who i am. You should be careful what you say about me or my family. You r starting to get on my nerves and that is not good for you. If you know who i am, then say it to my face, instead of being a faceless coward behind the computer. I cannot believe some Rye fans sit behind a computer and pick on Harrison, you got no class. So go Fu%^ yourself!
Jim name the time or place?
JOSH !!!!! I think you should throw off blogger JIM off the blog and some Rye bloggers.. He is getting personal and saying garbage about my family. This blog is not for this behavior and he should be terminated from the blog. Please!!! before it gets ugly
When they left Harrison to play at the Dome they left as CHAMPIONS and when they returned to Harrison they returned as CHAMPIONS! Losing a game doesn’t define them..it’s how they played the game that does…it’s how they handled the loss that does….and they played it and handled it as the true Champions that we all know they are and always will be.. Job well done Huskies..regardless of the outcome! Thank you for getting us to the Dome and thank you to the Seniors for giving us the opportunity to witness the display of their unsurpassed, unmatched talent for the very last time in HHS…and the absolute best we’ve seen in many, many years. GO HUSKIES!!!
It amazes me how jealous Rye fans r. Its so wrong. Jim you have the wrong brother. This brother drives his father to all the games including seeing the two of them at Syracuse. He helps his father up and down the stands and looks out for his pops. Jim, husky 92 is a good guy so lay off of him
Truce….. don’t want to meet anyone to fight him or even a her….I’m way too old for that.. I was talking about occupations( which Husky92 brought up about me in an earlier post)...not family. If I crossed the line by refering to your father..I’m sorry. I respect Big Joe and have defended him often on this website. There has been exactly one “Rye Guy”(not me)writing negative stuff and about four or five Harrison bloggers talking about ” Rye degenerate fans rubbing it in”“knit sweaters and penny loafers”, Our coach walking out on us after running up countless scores through the years, shopping with our mommies on black friday etc. etc. etc. Do the rants of one person warrant a bevy of remarks geared at everyone from Rye? No.
Apology accepted, good luck this winter and see you in the Fall. I must of heard that info from a bad source, it happens
JIM… I HAVE ALWAYS RESPECTED YOU AND YOUR POST AND ALWAYS WILL YOU ARE ALWAYS FAIR AND BIAS….TRUE RYE GUY AND COOKOO.., WHICH FITS HIS NAME ….HAVE TO BE JUVENILES …UNDER THE AGES OF 13…CAUSE ONLY YOUNG KIDS ARE ARROGANT AND STUPID CAUSE THE HAVE YET TO MATURE….ALSO HUSKY 92 SHOULD HAVE RECOGNIZED THIS CAUSE HE IS NOT A KID BUT A MAN WHOM I TAUGHT RESPECT…HAPPY TO SEE YOU BOTH ON GOOD TERMS NOW
PELICAN BRIEF…I WATCH CIERO ALL YEAR AND HIS RUNNING AND PASSING IN THE HARRISON DEFEAT WAS NO DIFFERENT THAN IT WAS AGAINST ALL THE OTHER GAMES HE PLAYED….TO ME IT WAS AN EXCUSE FOR LOSING…...BUT I WILL ADMIT THAT HE IS ONE OF THE BETTER PLAYERS IN SECTION ONE …BUT THEY LOST AND ITS OVER… I FEEL THE SAME ABOUT THE RYE GAME ….ITS OVER AND IN THE BOOKS LETS LOOK TO THE FUTURE AND NOT THE PAST….THE PAST IS FOR LOSERS

Thats Great Class A. Why r Rye people still on here? Harrison and Rye will never be friends, this is just like Red Sox and the Yankees LOL. Rye is already talking about 9 in a row, and Harrison is still enjoying the moment. Looking forward for next year for the Huskies.
The Donald,
Besides seeing PSAL schools play and playing high school football there and ofcourse assuming your unbiased.
What evidence is there that supports your assumption that PSAL Schools are better than NYSPHAA Schools??
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iIuxmulf_YE&feature=channel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USfNzEeaZ7s
These are elite PSAL teams playing
I see linemen clearly under 200 lbs. I see familiar speed. I don’t see how the best of NYSPHAA school cannot compete with whats being shown here.
10960….THEY LOOK LIKE THE POP WARNER LEAGUE….ARE YOU SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TAPE
LOL I’m certain this is Varsity playing right now. I just don’t see how our best would be considered second tier to these teams.
Again Big Joe, Ciero was definitely not the same player in the section final, and I’d appreciate it if you stopped making it sound like you beat a healthy Ciero. He had a broken foot, and is on crutches, and has been since the section final. He can’t put any weight on the foot. So don’t downplay his injury, because it definitely affected his ability to make plays. However, football is football, and injuries happen. Congrats to Harrison on a great season! You represented Section 1 well, and all fans on this blog should appreciate the accomplishments of Harrison this season. Yes, that means you Rye fans.
10960,
Im sorry, did I miss something here. Did i ever mention NYC schools in any of my posts? I said Long Island. Why do you keep bringing up city schools? Please go back and check my posts. As far as long island teams. Yes, they are better then anything section one can throw at them. When you get the facts straight you can better respond.
hg, all that I can say is, WATCH THE TAPES…IF YOU SEE ANY DIFFERENCES IN PLAY …SHOW ME….....HE EVEN MENTIONED THAT HE PLAYED PAIN LESS AND DID NOT REALIZE THE SERIOUSNESS OF HIS INJURY ,UNTILL HE GOT OFF THE FIELD
Merry Christmas to all!!!!
