Former Don Bosco player Donald Davis has become one of the most dominant players in the area this season for Nyack High School. Click here to view more photos and read about Davis on Varsity Insider in an upcoming feature.
jim… That Chenango QB, Batty, was pretty good, too.
3 yards and a cloud of dust
You look at him and his skill set, you just have to scratch your head and imagine what type of football player you have to be to get playing time at Don Bosco. If any of you ever get the chance to see Don Bosco play, I would highly recommend it. They are so good that if the played New Ro, you could spot New Ro 28 points and Don Bosco would have the game tied by halftime.

THREE YARDS AND A CLOUD OF DUSK,,,, MY RELATIVE PLAYS FOR DON BOSCO AS A LINE BACKER AND HAD 16 SACKS IN 3-4-GAMES…THEY ARE NOW RATED # 2 IN THE COUNTRY , I WONDER HOW GOOD THE #1 TEAM IS

He actually did get some playing time until his injury in his sophmore year took him out of play. He sat out for the rest of the season after his injury that October.
Looks like Jerome Bettis
This picture on line really doesnt capture his true mass.
I stood next to him on the field at Rye and his legs are massive and he looks just like Jerome Bettis.
The one thing about Davis that doesnt get enough attention is that in addition to being an outstanding football player, he is a much better person then football player. Hes a great kid.
Every time I’ve talked to him after a game, he never takes any credit for his on field achievments always saying it was all of us, and he never uses the word me or I, and he always answers compliments on his games with thank you sir. Yes sir, no sir. He is a great role model and an perfect example a what a student athlete should be.
If anyone saw his interview on the MSG varsity web site, you see a young man who just smiles bright and is very intelligent, soft spoken, articulate and humble.
You would never know that he was such a soft spoken and nice kid by the way he plays so hard and strong on the field. He really is a beast on the field. Like a bowling ball.
The kid is a big time Winner!

Any contingency plans at Rye if the field gets flooded tonight? If they get hit, how can Rye host Friday night? More importantly, will the filed be ready for THE GAME on OCt. 16?

btw, this thread is not related to my question but it is the most recent thread so I put it here.
Any other fileds in danger?
Bronxville, no? Pleasantville too?

This was the best player Rye has ever played against since “The Bull”.
Batty’s teammate Matt Faughnan. He was unblockable in the State Championships vs Rye.

The Oneida quarterback (?) was real tough in ‘08. He was their main weapon. CF (Batty) had multiple weapons.

Let me ammend my statement to say Davis had the best individual game vs Rye. He carried the ball on 75% of the offensive plays. He made about 50% of the tackles, and intercepted two passes. I wouldn’t call him a great runner. He is a fullback that will be going up to a level where fullbacks are hardly used. I’ve seen more explosive players, faster players and even stronger runners, but very few who had a better night than Davis had vs Rye. I don’t know if he will have the success of a Maldonado, Rice, Gaydon or Bernstein in the future, but that night he was as good as I’ve seen. He is just a relentless presence all over the field…a do it all type…that is just a winner at the HS level.

jim great post. totally agree with everything you said. Big Joe, i looked into the number 1 team(Trinity in TX) they are ridiculous.
My Nephew played alot at Don Bosco, he played cornerback and runnning back, Don Bosc’s practise is plain sick, they practise are like division 1 college football. They work out at a scounting combine in the off season, they pratise for 8 quarters while everyone pratise for 4. I once him rush for 5 touchdowns playing for don bosco little league. They played New Rochelle 2 years ago in New Rochellen and Ray Rice, who use to play for New Rochelle, says Don Bosco’s Jv, would beat New Rocheel’s varsity.

don bosco & new ro are not on the same level, i dnt think d.b. 10th grade jv team would beat new ro varsity but may be there 11th grade jv team would

Jim,
The funny thing about the Maldonado comment is that my father said it to me right after the game. He doesnt get to see as much football anymore since then because of the younger kids and stuff. When and it was just me and him we went to 3 games a week, but right away he said. He’s the most dominant player I’ve seen since Maldonado.
As for Bosco-New Rochelle. Bosco is multiple touchdowns better than New Rochelle every single year except for 2004. It was New Rochelle’s best obviously, and one of Bosco’s “worst”
New Rochelle would’ve won the NJ Catholic Group IV title that season. 2003 when New Rochelle actually won the state title, Bosco had one of their best teams ever, so they still would’ve beaten New Rochelle.
This year and last year? Don Bosco is literally one of the best in the country. They prove it every week against national competition.

Wade Rowcliffe played for Cal-Mum, didn’t he?
