We’re back with a few more Captain’s Corners over the weekend, including today’s, a look into the thinking of a Westlake Wildcat. There will be more to follow over the holiday.
If you have a captain you’d like to suggest for a future post, shoot me an e-mail at jthomson@lohud.com.
Name: Nick Cevallos
School: Westlake High School
Year: Senior
Jersey number: 14
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 175
Offensive position: RB/WR
Defensive position: S
What is your favorite part about football?: I like the thrill and adrenaline of playing defense because you’re the one giving the hit.
What do you do to prepare for games?: I hydrate to prevent cramps. I also clear my mind so all I am thinking about is the game and what myself and the team have to do in order to be successful against our opponent.
What did it mean to be named a captain?: It means a lot and it’s an honor because our graduating seniors pick the first captain. I have been playing football a long time and I have always wanted to be captain; it’s a reward for my hard work and determination over the years.
As a captain, what will it take to be a leader?: I will have to set an example on and off the field. I will have to lead the off-season summer workouts and set the tone at practices and games.
Who is your team’s best teammate? Why?: Our team doesn’t have a best teammate because football is a team sport and we are all one family.
Who is the best athlete on your team? Why?: We don’t have a best athlete because no one is above anyone else. Football is a team sport. Everyone is different and brings their unique skills and attributes to the team.
Who is your funniest teammate?: Our funniest teammates would have to be John D’Onofrio and AJ Pizzola because they say and do some of the funniest things without even trying.
What are your team’s goals for the season?: Our goals as a team are to have a successful winning season and win a section championship.
What will it take for you to achieve them?: We will have to work hard, never give up and give it our everything every second from the practice field to the game field.
After high school, what’s your next step?: I hope to find a college where I can pursue the education of my choice.
