When I told you last night that I had a recruiting update today, I was all set to report that Stepinac DE Donnie Simmons had received several D-I offers and was weighing his options. But Simmons made his decision, which was tweeted by the school’s athletic department last night.
Simmons gave his oral commitment to attend Syracuse in the fall of 2011.
The 6-1, 230-pound Simmons was on an unofficial visit to Syracuse yesterday. He had also received offers from Akron, Fordham and Delware, and heavy interest from Rutgers and Temple.
Simmons’ stock first began to soar at two camps: Nike’s camp at Penn State and Rise Magazine’s at Rutgers. He ran a scorching 4.59 in the 40-yard dash.
“Many of the recruiters think he is twitched up, meaning he is quick off the ball and good at changing direction,” Stepinac coach Mike O’Donnell said.
I’ll try to get in touch with Donnie today and share more from him later.
