If you have a captain you’d like to suggest for a future post, send me an e-mail at email@example.com. And please check back tomorrow morning for Captain’s Corner No. 3.
What is your favorite part about football?: My favorite part of football is the camaraderie and the bond it allows you to build with your teammates. Football is the ultimate team sport and it teaches you how to cope with the many struggles of life. Sometimes the ball does not bounce your way but that is no excuse to give up.
What do you do to prepare for games?: To prepare for games I usually listen to my iPod and think of the task ahead of me. On the bus ride, I take hundreds of mental reps and make sure I know my keys.
What did it mean to be named a captain?: When I was named a captain, it meant the world to me. From the time I began playing football freshman year it was my dream to one day become a team captain. Being a team captain is such a relief because it shows that all of your hard work and dedication is being noted and accounted for. It is a special feeling.
As a captain, what will it take to be a leader?: To be a leader, you have to be vocal and lead by example. A lot of your teammates will follow in your footsteps so if you are working hard it will trickle down to everyone else on the team. As a captain, I have to set the best example possible. I have to be the coach on the field and in the locker room. I have to be someone my teammates can relate to.
Who is your team’s best teammate? Why?: Our best teammate is Kyle Rembert. He is our 12th man on the field.
Who is the best athlete on your team? Why?: Our team has a great deal of phenomenal athletes so it is tough to choose one. We as a football program pride ourselves on having some of the best athletes in the league and having a good understanding of the game of football. We try to use our speed and knowledge to our advantage and if we can couple these two things with strength, the sky is the limit for us.
Who is your funniest teammate?: Our funniest teammate is Jahi Grannell.
What are your team’s goals for the season?: Our goal for this season is to win a CHSFL AAA Championship.
What will it take for you to achieve them?: In order to achieve our goals we must be one team, with one mindset, with one mission, working hard to achieve the same goal together.
After high school, what’s your next step?: After high school I plan on possibly playing football and baseball at the collegiate level while further pursuing my academic endeavors. I plan to major in pre-law.
