(EDITED, 4/23, 1 p.m.) Rutgers cornerback Devin McCourty joined twin brother Jason in the NFL and became the newest member of the New England Patriots when he was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.
The Pats picked the Nanuet native No. 27 overall in the first round. They swapped picks with the Cowboys earlier tonight to add to their haul, then snatched McCourty.
McCourty’s twin brother was picked last year in the sixth round by the Titans, where he played special teams and defensive back as a rookie.
Devin, a St. Joe’s of Montvale grad, said earlier this week that he would watch the draft at home in Nanuet with family and friends.

Josh, you might want to fix this error:
“For the first time since Ray Rice in 2008, a player from the Lower Hudson Valley was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.”
Ray Rice was not selected in the first round, he was a second round pick, 55th overall I believe.
Would he gone to Nyack or Nanuet HS?
I pretty sure they would have gone to Spring Valley.
anyone still wonder why players leave Ny to go to a catholic school in NJ. Just look at the new alignments and schedules. Three #1 picks out of nj this year
Ray Rice wasn’t a first round pick…. he was a second round pick.
Jimmy Kennedy (Roosevelt High) went First Round!!! 2003 NFL draft.
Ryan Grant went undrafted and starts for the GreenBay Packers.
Kieth Bulluck (clarkstown North) went 1st round. 2000 NFL draft.
Kelvin Smith was drafted 7th round. (north Rockland)
Jason McCourty was a 6th Round Pick. (McCourty brothers would never have gone to any Nanuet school) They did Elementary in Nyack Public Schools then went over to East Ramapo school district.
Phil Bogel went undrafted (Spring Valley High)
Charles Spencer out of POK drafted round 3
gotta do that Homework!!!
Mr. Josh Thomson…. There are veterans on this blog you gotta be on point!!!
It’s fixed.
10960… Normally I would agree with both of your comments posted one minute apart telling me I have to do my homework, but it’s not like I don’t know a few things about Ray Rice. I just made an incredibly dumb mistake.
Thanks to those who helped correct it. I appreciate it and sorry about the error.
Devin McCourty went to Chestnut Ridge and then with his brother was heavily recruited to go to St. Joe’s of Montvale. Unfortunately, they are a long line of kids who are from the Spring Valley area who do not go to the high school. It really has more to do with getting kids away from the trouble they may get into with the wrong crowd. The school isn’t half as bad as people think but there are kids who frown upon other kids being successful and their is jealousy. The academics are tough (most Chestnut kids go to St. Joe’s cause the academics are a joke and the regents in NYS is not) and the football program is top notch in terms of what the coaches do for the kids. Take a look at their web-site – there are their best kids highlight films on it. I don’t think their are many schools who do that for their kids. They also run a pretty good combine at their school in the Spring. The only thing Spring Valley doesn’t have is the true dedication of a enough kids for one reason or another (have to work, no family support etc.) which of course creates competition – which you get at the Joe’s and Bosco’s.
this is a non story for this blog. He went to school n jersey. He has zero ties to section one. This is a story for the new jersey high school blogs.
dang fun story man.
