For the first time, the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) named its Best of BCANY — Top 50 Players for the 2009-10 season. The honorees include players from all sections, as well as from the city Catholic, public and private schools whose coaches are BCANY members. The players are picked at the local level, and the Top 50 are then chosen by the BCANY Board of Directors.

Five players from Section 1 were honored. They are:

Class AA —
Jabarie Hinds, Mount Vernon
Antoine Mason, New Rochelle
Dayvon Whitaker, Poughkeepsie

Class A —
Daquan Brickhouse, Peekskill

Class C —
James Jensen, Valhalla

• Jensen, the Valhalla senior, was also named to the New Balance BCANY Academic All-State team. In order to qualify, players had to be a junior or senior; maintain a minimum of a 90 average; and been named first or second-team all-star by their league, section or local media. Jensen was the only local player selected to New Balance team.
