We talk about underrated players? How about this guy.
George Gaine and Tappan Zee booked themselves a spot in Sunday’s Class A final with the upset of the new decade, a 65-60 victory over Peekskill, the five-time defending Class A champ. Gaine’s team closed on a 25-13 run, highlighted by the play of sophomore Pat Peterson, one of TZee’s five non-senior starters.
Here’s what Gaine had to say after the game outside an elated TZee locker room:

Congrats Coach Gaine and the boys!!!! We are so proud of you all, keep doing work and get TZ that gold ball it’s been waiting for!
Way to go Coach Gaine—you did it the right way and we couldn’t be happier for you. Not everyone doubted TZ could win-we all believed you would come up with a game plan and you did..Taj Vine is the quiet hero of your win tonight-incredible rebounds, quick hand on defense, timely shots..and Ryan O’Rourke drilling four straight free throw..SIMPLY THE BEST!!
congrats georgie and the team amazing game tz student section all day
PAT PETERSON is the number player in the leauge
Why didnt the 1 senior play?
Outstanding performance by TZ to beat seasoned Brickhouse and company. I thought #4 put on a heroic performance for TZ.
An all Rockland final in “A.” Amazing.
We believe Coach Gaine! Congrats to you, Coach Linehan and the rest of the staff on a job well done. You have a tremendous group of unselfish players which is what champions are made of. The only people who doubted were the same people asking why certain individuals didn’t play.
How come people are more are concerned about individuals playing than the team winning..Right there is the problem with the community..Lets get behind a program for once and believe like the kids do… Cause it’s not about the Parents it’s all about the kids, there love for eachother and the team , and there experience as a high school player…A lot of programs in this area have been destroyed by negativity, lets not destroy a positive one….......

great interview with coach gaine, josh. good job. gaine sounds like the real deal, so let’s hope the cinderella TZ story continues. SV will be tough. and i will say this: whoever wins class A, let the kids and school and community enjoy it-
because it’s not likely to happen again soon. just the odds; not my opinion. but if TZ has mostly underclassmen, these could be the best years (1-3 years) in the history of TZ hoops. same is true for SV, if the Tigers win. enjoy it…and don’t let people put pressure on you next november, telling players of either team that unless u repeat and get to the finals again at County Center, yur season was a failure. look at Nyack. they were dominant for years (even a decade!) in hoops. not they’re under the floor. it all goes in cycles. TZ beat an average (not dominant or great) peekskill team. but beat ‘em, they did-on fundamentals, heart, clutch free throws and defense. if u wanna win, that’s the way to do it. winning is bliss. but success sometimes creates unreal expectations. i hope the TZ ballers remember their “upset” vs. Peekskill. it will probably mark the highlight of their sporting lives. they’ve been to the moutain. now, they gotta keep climbing for the S1 golden Class A ball.Tz hoops- Liked your insight very much. As an impartial observer, I can tell you the TZ Dutchmen warriors who led their team to a big victory all became men, or solidified their standing as “men,” last night. Great job.
ps- so did the Peekskill warriors.
TZ honors the game of basketball by playing it like it should be played, unselfishly.Teams are built by an excellent coach like George Gaine that play hard and play together.Part of the unselfishness in any good team is the role of its bench players. If unselfishness extends to these roll players, then team chemistry can be special and great things are possible. TZ appears to have this. The problem is some parents just don’t get this very important point and are more concerned about playing time, rather than have the team win. A good coach defines the roles of the players and if the player “buys in” the parents should allow their son to learn all the valuable life lessons that will follow.
Great Job Coach Gaine

sounds like your kid gets plenty of burn for tz.
if he did not you would not be saying tz honors the game.
since you are the only person talking “playing time: it must be at the top of your agenda?
of course you luv gaine ,, you self absorbed phoney.
Washburn,
Wrong on all counts,I am not remotely related to TZ in any way, but its obvious that your son is not getting the playing time. I can only hope that all of your negativity is not being directed at a member of the TZ team, because you will poison the experience.
