Update, 5:01 p.m.: The game is about to get underway.
Update, 5:05 p.m.: Woodlands looks sloppy and nervous. Irvington leads 8-0.
Update, 5:08 p.m.: Timeout Woodlands. Irvington is up 10-0 and its fans are rocking. There’s 4:29 left in the quarter and Woodlands does not look good.
Update, 5:11 p.m.: OK, you might not believe this, but whatever: Irvington leads 20-0. That’s right — 20-0. And “I’m a Believer” is playing on the PA. Great choice by DJ Diz. Woodlands called timeout with 2:04 to play.
Update, 5:18 p.m.: Alex Fenyn just scored on a putback — Irvington is dominating on the offensive boards — and Irvington is up 25-6 after one quarter. Samar O’Neil hit a right-wing jumper with 1:51 left in the quarter for Woodlands’ first hoop. It was 20-0 at the time.
Update, 5:27 p.m.: Timeout Irvington. The Bulldogs still lead 25-13 but the shock has worn off. Two baskets from Reece Williams and a three-point play from Davonne Henry has Woodlands back in it. The Falcons also have two FT coming up.
Update, 5:33 p.m.: Irvington still leads 25-20 with 3:36 to play but Woodlands has come on very, very strong.
Update, 5:39 p.m.: HALFTIME — Irvington leads 25-22, but it didn’t score in the entire second quarter. Woodlands is on a 16-0 run. Henry had eight of those points. He has been so active after a skittish start.
Update, 5:55 p.m.: What a bizarre game. Irvington is up 31-24 after a Woodlands putback. Irvington scored the first six points of the half. Chris Brennan had the first hoop, which snapped a scoreless streak of 8:37. All of a sudden, Irvington looks much better again.
Update, 6:05 p.m.: Woodlands leads 38-36 with 1:56 to go in the third quarter. It’s been back and forth all quarter.
Update, 6:11 p.m.: I was just about to write that Woodlands closed the quarter on a 10-0 run but Peter Crisara just hit a 3 at the buzzer. Still, the Falcons lead 45-39 heading into the fourth quarter. Hard to believe that Irvington lead 20-0 at one point. Too much Henry, who is athletic enough to be a star on any team in the section.
Update, 6:22 p.m.: Wow, Irvington keeps hanging around. Woodlands leads 49-47 with two minutes to play.
Update, 6:24 p.m.: Spoke too soon. Henry and Derrick Banks just scored back to back hoops and Woodlands leads 53-47 with 1:21 remaining. Irvington had a shot to tie before the two baskets.
Update, 6:27 p.m.: Timeout Woodlands. The Falcons lead 53-49 with Crisara at the line for a 1 and 1. Two bad plays by Woodlands. First, Irvington decided to play defense and not foul. So Banks drove to the basket and traveled, but Woodlands could’ve burned about 15 more seconds off the clock. Then, Crisara lost the handle but he was fouled fighting for the loose ball. So…he’s now at the line with 25.3 to play, a chance to cut it to two.
Update, 6:32 p.m.: A thunderous dunk by Henry capped it after Atkins sank a pair of FTs. Woodlands wins 57-51 and will play Pleasantville in the Class B final.

pville why do you always have to resort to name calling. Just state your case. There’s no problem with you posting on here and hearing your thoughts and feelings.
Lose the insults it’s childish.
All Star or whoever you are today, ever hear of the word ignore? Look it up, learn it and then use it when I post. Go back to your childish trash talk. See you next week
Hoops fan-
Here’s a recent article on Otis Hill regarding his life and falling just short of the NBA. Nice write up…

ok pville. It’s game time anyway.
Good luck, you’ll need it.
i hate to agree with reason but vokel left because of delle bovi. his dad is the coach of collegite in the city, and his older brother went there, so i am suprised he didnt go there. but his dad, knows how to coach and decied delle bovi is not a good coach. i wish we had vokel. guaranteed to glen falls.
also i believe his father holds the record for most shots made in a row at american in 70’s… also pleasantville is one guy away. tireny would be a good 6th man but he is not really a great starter, and it would give us 10 seniors. delle bovi does not use his bench effectively he has to very very good sompheres (guys i have played against) and beilve me they could help pleasantville
fan,
Coach Dellebovi was the head coach at St Raymonds and Manhattan college in the 80’s – I don’t think there’s any argument that he’s a very experienced, good coach.
yeah,
Thanks for posting that article. Thats the first article I’ve read besides comments on this blog about Otis Hill since he left Syracuse. He always seemed like such a nice kid at Pleasantville.
Its great to hear what a long career he’s had playing overseas. Seems like he’d be an excellent coach.
I’d argue that the reason he didn’t make the NBA wasn’t that he wasn’t tall enough or quick enough. The reason he didn’t get a better shot at the NBA is that his lack of offensive skills/moves/shot limited him to playing the 5. At the 5, he was definitely too short. Had his offensive game been more developed, I think he would’ve had a better shot at the NBA. he was great in terms of defense, rebounding and heart while at Syracuse – there are plenty of guys like that at 6’8” in the NBA, its just that they also can hit an 18 footer.
By the way, does anyone remember Otis Hill Sr as a player at WPHS? I remember him on the track. Was he a good basketball player at WP?
by the way, its amazing how many guys who played basketball in the early 90’s in Westchester had 10+ year careers playing basketball overseas. Think of all these guys – Otis Hill/Pville, Chris Watson/Stepinac, Jermaine Young/WP, Danya Abrams/Hackley. There are several other guys who I’m not sure exactly how long they played overseas, but I think they had good careers as well if not over 10 years like the other guys – Rasuan Young/New Ro, Llewellyn Cole/Stepinac, Ty Foster/Harvey, Newton Gayle/MV, Larry Abney/Nyack, John McDonald/MV. All these guys graduated between ‘92-’94 – amazing if you think about it. I’m probably forgetting a few others. Also plenty of guys from a few years earlier – Eric Mobley/Salesian/NBA, Marty Conlon/Stepinac/NBA, James Blackwell/Fox Lane/NBA, Willie Ladsen/Salesian, Rasul Saluhuddin/MV.
Those could be some factors as to Voelkel leaving Pville but I think the main reasons were recruiting, and playing along side Sandro and Bronner. Can’t knock his decision now can you. The father Voelkel is definately one of the top coaches in the state. Collegiate has won 3 out of the last 4 Federation Championships I believe, and are the two-time defending Federation Champs.
Delle Bovi is a good coach, but you don’t fall from Manhattan to Class B high school basketball for no reason.
sec 1 you have a good point he got fired from Manhattan because he took his team off the court in the maac tourney
Great Information, thanks for the fine Article. Really great topic to write about on my Blog. I might set a link from another site. single mother scholarships
