Hey, it’s Rick Carpiniello filling in for Josh (probably going to be doing this a lot this coming week). I’m at New Rochelle High for the rivalry triple-header. I’ll be providing periodic updates—won’t be able to do it for every score, obviously. Should be a good afternoon. First game starts at noon, followed by Peekskill-Poughkeepsie, then Mount Vernon-New Rochelle.
End of first quarter: Very slow-paced period. Harrison leads 7-2.
Halftime: Chris Twyman hit a 3 just before the half ended, and Rye closed on a 12-2 run to cut it to 20-19, Harrison. The Huskies had led by as much as 10.
After three quarters: Harrison 33, Rye 30 Rinaldi had nine in the third for Harrison.
Final: Rye wins 52-39 with 22 fourth-quarter points (the Garnets scored only two in the first quarter).

If this was football there would already be about a hundred posts. Nice to see these teams get a little coverage. I’m sure the intensity and desire was as great as on the gridiron…it’s nice that these two rivals got to play at the County Center first, then at a packed venue like today. Who knows ? Maybe a couple of 6’10” kids will move to Rye or Harrison next year instead of Port Chester?
Go Garnets!
Trust me I’ve see the 6’10” kids play, Rye and Harrison are better off. Neither of them bring much to the table.
offensively challenged hoops squads….. sammy m would out score either hoops team…. but dino will never put up 50 points in a game!!!!!!!!!!!!
rye harrison 2010 it will be a war and the teams will play twicw this year! rye wins both very close. second game rye wins with its 2 minute offense and scores game winner with 6 seconds left on the clock…............ cant wait for football season.
Over the years Harrison was critisized for having kids move into the school by living in a secret apartment Artie has in Harrison for football. Honestly, bloggers were saying that when Denti went to Harrison. What a Joke!!! Port Chester with Basketball recruits kids or kids move to that school to have a chance to go to a good school and get publicly noticed. The last Harrison Basketball that had a big team was in 82. Scotti Brothers 6’10 – 6’11 they went to Rhode Island and played, Jim Alfredo 6’5 went to LaSalle played. Bruce Mesner 6’6 went to Maryland, then played w the Buffalo Bills . Harrison and Rye had great battles on the court. Rye’s star was B.J. Surhoff. It was intense. Section1Scout—5 months to go..
husky 92- whats the word in harrison regarding the class a league alignments and who is going where. i hear a lot of schools will form an independent league and opt out of a sectional tourney…. what do you say to a night game at nugent this year?
Section1Scout:
Rye Board of Education “Lights/Events Policy” specifically prohibits the playing of the Rye/Harrison game under the lights at Nugent Stadium.
Not going to happen in 2010 or ever.
garnet10580 that boe has enough problems on their hands with all the crud that is going on over there. the last thing they need to worry about is the nights and lights of sporting contests. they better start worrying about getting their contract situations taken care of, or that district will become a ghost town.
Section1Scout:
Actually you are very wrong.
The policy is not a recent creation as it was implemented in 2001 in conjunction with the lights installation.
And as a Rye BOE Trustee for 15 years (1991-2006), I couldn’t disagree more with your union contract commentary.
In case you didn’t notice Rye’s 2010/2011 BEDs numbers (student enrollment) when compared to those of 2009/2010, are up 5% from 646 to 681. Not exactly “ghost town” numbers.
It would be better for you to stick with the facts.
garnet10580-the ref was re getting people to work there and coach there. the word around the county is that it is a real mess there and people who work there are telling others not to come work there. I even heard some coaches are looking to coach elsewhere. forget beds…............
garnet10580-BTW if people are moving into the community and the beds are going up, obviously going from class b champs to class a favorites, why then are they going on 3 years w/o a teacher contract? people are moving into rye so housing must not be an issue, they obviously can afford it. why are those on the boe looking to beat down teachers and coaches who have worked hard to reach the zenith of their profession. as a former member of the boe yourself, would you approve of the current tactics by this administration? are what the teachers and coaches looking for unrealistic? All I know is when I drive through Rye, I see those state champ signs. It is a proud community. We hate those signs!
Section1Scout:
Since this has turned into a two-way conversation about teacher union contracts in Rye and nothing to do with athletics, I invite you to call me to discuss further.
