We’ve finally arrived at the biggest game of the Slam Dunk tournament: Iona Prep vs. Peekskill.
Yes, it’s only a semifinal in the tournament — and the winner will likely get beaten by Newburgh Free Academy in the final. But, as the filled seats prove, it’s the marquee matchup of the week.
We’ll get started in 17 minutes. I’ll be providing updates throughout. You can watch the game live by clicking over to lohud.com/vcsports1.

Well for those of you who like to jump to conclusions, i am not Mr Schnieder and my son did not go to Lakeland. I moved here two years ago from down south. My name is Bill Philips, i live at 2286 Gomer Street in Yorktown, if any of you guys would like to stop by please feel free. Now IonaCrazed you are an idiot, New Haven or Southern Connecticut? Are you crazy, Brickhouse is better than that. Also for all you idots that think Division 2 schools are not as good academically than Division 1 you are crazy. there are many D2 schools that rank higher acidemically than D1 schools. Idiots. Voekel isn’t as good as you guys make him, he is playing in the America East…. WOW!!! Also My son did not play at Vermont, he played in the Big East, he was an adopted son so i will not reveal his name or bring him in to this crap.
Ok Founding father, its ok for you to take shots at a kid in high school , however, when someone someone puts two and two together you wanna get senitive? How does a man thats been in an area two years be the founding father of a program?
God bless you for taking a child into your life and directing them in the right direction. Did you teach your child that everyone that has a difference of opinion w you is an idiot?
Founding Father your opinions are skewed and your overall perspective of what a kid like Voekel’s goals should be are way off. Voekel is not going to be an NBA player. He has earned a scholarship to get a great education and play a sport he loves. Instead of congratulating him, you feel the need to mock his game and college choice.
You also have some set to call anyone an idiot. Your posts aren’t exactly rocket science. Attacking a HS kid, then attacking another blogger for stating an opinion on Brickhouse is weak.
fOUNDPOPS- YOUR A CLOWN…..
LakelandBasketballFoundingFather
That is funny that someone who lived down south and moved to Yorktown two years ago is the founding father of Lakeland Basketball- I guess you did not see the dominant performanace last night by Voelkel- You can make a case that he was underrecruited by going to Vermont-
YOU ARE WAY OFF ON VOELKEL
scary
LOL- I want to know where one of the biggest critics of Iona has gone- Scary you need to show up today and offer some commentary on the Iona
Newburgh gameYou said Iona would get smoked by over 20!Come out scary wherever you are!!!LOl
Section One
MACHO ManAKA – Section 1 BBALLYOU ARE EATING HUMBLE PIE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IF IONA WOULD HAVE LOST AT THE SLAM DUNK YOU TROLLS WOULD HAVE BEEN RUNNING YOUR MOUTHS!!!!
i think pok will beat new burgh peekskill and new ro…...dnt kno much about sced…......poughkeepsie beat the state champs last year and new ro and peekskill and there offense is much better…........and u truely think nate gause just might be the best player in the section and dayvon whittaker is better than henderson, brickhouse, and torres
Schenectady lost to Albany, whom New Ro beat convincingly. I hate to use the who beat who scale, but this is all we have in these inter-sectional matchups. I think PK will beat Shenectady by about 8 or 9. If they played back when scheduled, I think The Patriots could have pulled off a win. PK is gaining more confidence and their players with no Varsity experience (ALOT) are getting their feet wet and are ready to contribute. I like the fact that Laffin has been using his whole bench for once this year. You never know when some of your men will need to step up. Should be a fun season. NFA, Peek and New Ro will be some serious battles- time will tell…
Congrats IONA Prep you rule !!!!
LOL
Lakeland Father = BUSTED!!!!
You moved two years ago AND adopted a son with a different name and put up a fake address. Nice! You’ve been caught, buddy.
Whats pathetic is that IONA isn’t the fake fraud mount iona.. Amazing how the groupies come out of the wood work after a win. Apparently this IONA needs to keep back to class because he can’t read. Not once did I ever disparage any basketball team or players. Only a ball bag blogger similar to you. I watched the game last night and it was a great game. I wasn’t rooting against Iona, in fact I was rooting for them.
So IONA go find iona and give him a kiss.
sec 1 hoops fan
I would just ignore people like “Iona with ease” and the last Iona poster who is obviously trying to stir up crap. Those guys probably do not have a clue with Iona Prep sports.
The only guy on this blog who I try and have some good natured fun with is “scary”. Believe it or not we had some interesing dialogue on an entry from yesterday.
Iona Power you are right and I apologize for being harsh the other day. Great game last night.
Sec 1 Hoops
Over the last few days guys like HR’s, Coach Reeves, Hoops Fan, Scott, J Moose etc have had some interesting dialogue which has made the blogs more informative- The people that want to talk basketball should just try and ignore the knuckleheads that come on here with statements like Iona will win by 40 points etc..
As far as the Basketball I think all the teams that competed in the Slam Dunk will find it rewarding later in the season because a tourney like this will get you battletested.
Lakeland Founding Father or should I say GARY SCHNIEDER??
Your son plays over seas? Hmm oh wait doesn’t Ryan play in Portugal? Hey that’s overseas too! You’re probably bad-mouthing Vermont just because your son transferred from there. You’re a “Lakeland Founding Father” and your son plays overseas, but you’ve only been there for 2 years? Oh and I guess your son didn’t go to lakeland either? You’re a JOKE!!
Panas in a couple of years will be very good.
PS: See you Wednesday at the Lakeland/Panas game.
How are you guys? I hope everyone had a great Christmas and has a very Happy and safe New Year. I just want to say as a former player of Peekskill that my hat is off to Iona Prep, i think that the game was played very sloppy by both teams but, Iona Won. I don’t care who played this way or who did this or that. Iona Won. Peekskill is down, it happens to everyone. Not everyone can play at a high level all the time. I also want to note that i think Voekel is a very good player, i have heard all this crap about him not being able to go Division 1, after what that kid did in two games of that tournament, i think he dominates at Vermont, he is going to be a very good swingman at the D1 level. His teamate Carrissmo (excuse the spelling) is a very good player as well. Peekskill has a bunch to work on but this is why you play these games to gauge your team. I hope that Peekskill pulls through and is there is the end. I wish good luck to Iona Prep as i hope they make another deep run into the federation tournament this year.
