really looking forward to iona prep peekskill. should be a good game
iona by at least 10. no watts this year for peekskill nd a much more dyanmic trio for iona is gonna mean trouble for brickhouse and company.
While it’s obviously not as high profile as the Slam Dunk Challenge, the Dutchess County Basketball Association will be holding its annual competition held Monday to Wednesday. Due to the statewide reduction in schedule size, the games will be held in “Shootout” format rather than tournament format. Details:

can i get a new rochelle score they played at 9am in tennesse
I think New Ro is playing tonight at 7PM.
iona with ease
Not so fast. I can see Iona having trouble with fast teams and Peekskill is fast and Newburgh is even faster. Peekskill is not as good as they were last year and neither is Iona. If Iona gets by Peekskill they will have their hands full with Newburgh especially on the bigger County Center court.
Iona is probably better this year than last. They still have 5 of their top 7 players from last season and they are all another year older. Newburgh is basically the same team that Iona beat by 40 points in the White Plains gym…..While I do not expect that again, I am not sure why anyone would not have Iona as heavy a favorite this time .
Also, Iona beats Peekskill by more than 20 points this time around IMHO.
Sam Dunk
Iona are favorites over Peekskill but are underdogs against Newburgh. Sounds like last year when you said that you were going to beat up on Peekskill. Better hope you make it to the Newburgh game. I guess Iona fans are at it again this year.
Why is Iona an underdog to Newburgh this season? What has changed from the 40 point difference from last season’s meeting?
Has Newburgh added any important players to this year’s team?. Iona returns 5 of their top 7 players so tell me what has changed to make Newburgh the favorite?
WHY IS EVERYONE COUNTING OUT XAVERIAN? YOU GUYS ARE NUTS!
Section One
Enough with the CRAP that Iona fans are at it again like last year- CHECK THE LAST 2 WEEKS OF ENTRIES AND SHOW ME WHERE IONA FANS ARE TALKING NONSENSE-
All I have heard was how great Pleasantville and Horace Greeley are this year-
Also what makes you an expert on how Iona is compared to last year considering we are not even out of December-
CHSAA
The experts here are counting out Xaverian because most have never been to Brooklyn to see a game or better yet to the Bronx Gaucho Gym to see a CHSAA AA team play.
IonaPower,
I saw Xaverian last year and were not as good as they’ve been in years past. They have a guard Exum who is considered a D1 player who is probably their best player. You mentioned a sophomore Bernardi who is also supposed to be very good. I didn’t see him last year – must’ve been on JV or freshman team. I think Xaverian can probably play well against Newburgh and is tough enough to keep in competitive, though I don’t think they’re win. Xaverian will give their second round opponent, possibly Peekskill a very tough game. Xaverian actually made it to the Finals in this tournament three years ago where they lost a close one to WP. They beat Stepinac that year in semi’s. Xaverian had a ton of young talent that year. That was the year Stepinac beat Peekskill in the opening round. That Stepinac/Peekskill was a classic. I think it went to OT. Tony Taylor was the star, neither Melquan or Mookie played that great.
IonaPower
Some of your own fans posted that Iona is not as good as last year. Those post came when Iona lost in DC. You may have said it too. Sorry if I affended all Iona fans because I respect your program. It may be possible that one Iona fan is posting under several names. Newburgh is much higher ranked than Iona so Iona would not be the favorite if they meet. If Newburgh lost to Iona they would drop in the ranking and Iona would rise. If Newburgh won the rankings would not change. Iona’s point guard and center last year are really missed. I remember Iona fans saying that also. Do you think that Iona would be favorites if they meet Newburgh.
Section One
Iona Prep is coming off a 27-2 season and a Federation appearance with most of their key players back so I do not think anyone in New York is “much higher ranked” as you stated.
Currently Iona is 4-2 playing a highly competitive schedule so most would agree that they will have some losses as the season progresses. I know Newburgh is good but they have not been challenged yet this year. To clear up an earlier post Iona by someone else Iona beat Newburgh last year by 17 points with the 40 point win coming against new Rochelle.
Also my main problem with some people is that they are trying to manufacture some comments by “Iona fans” which are not happening. During the basketball season I have not heard any boastful remarks from Iona fans- All the boastful remarks like I said have been coming from Greeley and Pleasantville which is fine.
Hoops Fan
Xaverian beat Bedford Academy (PSAL) which is their only loss. They also beat St. Mary from Long Island by 16 points-They did not play well against Boys and Girls in the PSAL-CHSAA Challenge
Xaverian has sustained the last few years some transfers which hurt the program- They are capable of beating Newburgh-Iona or Peekskill because they are not a pushover.
IonaPower. You haven’t heard any boastful remarks than what is iona with ease against Peekskill.
Iona with ease against everyone in Westchester. Peekskill goes down by 30.
Peek 1,
“Iona with ease” is a prediction, not really a boastful comment. IonaPower has a great point that the great majority of “boastful” comments this year have been between the Greeley and Pleasantville fans.
Regarding the Iona/Newburgh potential matchup. I don’t think Newburgh will be a big favorite, but they probably are the favorite. IonaPower is correct that they only lost two players from last years team, but Pope and Lyde were big contributors. Newburgh brings everyone back. last year Newburgh also seemed to be a team that gelled and became greater than the sum of its parts. Not sure if thats happened yet this year. Last year when Newburgh lost to Iona it was early in the year and I think Iona had started out great while Newburgh improved as the season went on. All that being said, I don’t think it would be a big upset if Iona won. Could be a great on.
IonaPower,
I do agree that Xaverian is capable of beating Iona or Newburgh. They certainly will not be intimidated on the court. I think they’ll play well.
I agree,
I don’t know anyone who’d “agree” with your statement. Peekskill, New Ro, MV, Stepinac and Mount are all relatively close to Iona this year. Iona could be the best in Westchester, but not by 30 points.
Hoops fan
Not one intelligent fan of Iona really believes Iona is better than every program in Westchester by 30. I think some people want to post things to get people fired up at particular programs like Iona.
IonaPower,
Yeah, I agree. I wonder if “I agree” was really even an Iona fan or someone posting a brand new name looking to start something.
Hoops fan
I do not understand why people take posters like “I agree” seriously and let them warp the image of a program
new rochelle score
Pleasantville would beat Iona.
no doubt
looks like New Ro won in tennessee tonight

James Jameson
Yea Pleasantville would beat Iona – They would beat Mount Vernon, They would beat Rice, They would beat Boys and Girls, They would beat St. Patricks-
You are what I call a Small Time Westchester Loser that thinks your little town team can play with the big boys.- Now just crwal back under the rock you came from.
IOna Power.
Seems like someone is still angry that they didn’t get to play as a child. So angry. Calm with the personal attacks.
I am surprised to see you put Iona in the same group with MV, Rice, and St. Pats. YOu must be very confident there bud.
Iona Power you are as immature as they get. Any time some one comments on Iona you have to respond. Grow up please. And Iona is not even a pimple on one of those teams mentioned above. Iona Prep has won nothing to warrant it and they will be back to reality after this year. So YOU go back under te rock you geek.
THE SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND WOULD BEAT IONA…..HA…HA
Sec 1 hoops
You are telling me to grow up which is funny coming from someone who has 3 different screen names-
I guess when Iona wnet to the Federations last year they were a big pimple.
Husky 92
When was the last time Harrison had a d1 basketball player-HA HA HA
Screen name is the same mr. detective. Did they win the feds? Have they ever won the feds? MV, and Rice sure did and St. Pats..well they are a total powerhouse in NJ. So yes they are a pimple.
sec 1 hoops,
Being critical of a team that went to Federations last year is not really the best point you can make. Take it from me, I am anything but a fan of Iona basketball, but you have to appreciate a good team. They are a very good team this year and have been the last three years. Next year they should be down and you can take all the pot shots you like. This year, any true basketball fan, would appreciate a good team.
lefty,
Do you have any info about how its looking for New Ro in TN? I know there are one or two nationally ranked teams in the tournament. Is the team they play tonight one of them. I’ll try to go online and get some more info. Torres is really having an outstanding start to his season.
