Valhalla basketball coach Dave Greiner confirmed today that standout point guard Dan Annunziata will miss six weeks with a broken left elbow.
Annunziata, a 5-9 junior, landed hard when fouled in the first quarter of Tuesday’s win at Rye. He played the rest of the half despite the fact he couldn’t straighten his arm.
Annunziata learned today that his elbow was broken and that he’d be in a cast for four weeks. He’ll likely need two weeks of rehab after that before returning just in time for the postseason.
The Vikings are aiming for their second straight Section 1 Class C championship, a title Annunziata played a huge role in winning last March. He was the MVP of the Section 1 tournament and hit several clutch shots as Valhalla advanced to the state quarterfinals.
Tough blow, more for Annunziata than for Valhalla. The Vikings might lose a few games, but they can only get better as a team playing without their most valuable player. You just feel for any athlete who has to miss an extended period of time. The season is short enough.

Dan is a tough kid and will survive this. He will be back better than ever. You won’t meet a nicer kid anywhere! Merry Xmas Dan and to all the Vikings….
HAte to see anyone get hurt Annunziata is a great player, he just goes out there and plays hard and never opens his mouth, others should emulate him. In the end this will make Valhalla a more dangerous team, thats if he is back for the sectionals. Get well soon. For a bad reason it makes Class C a little more interesting.
DAN WILL BE BACK , THE REST WILL RISE, THEY,VE DONE IT BEFORE .THEY WILL BE BETTER THAN BEFORE.PLAY BALL.HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.
