Bx should just take a knee. They ran a hand-off on the first play????????>another hand-off.>another H-O> injured player BX> 4th down Bx win, but it wasn’t easy
They were close to needing a first down to seal it. They had to snap on 4th down with 3 seconds left. The funny thing is the fans in the background saying he should run around for the 3 seconds in the backfield.
Ask Stepinac from 2000 if this is a smart play. In one of the greatest collapses in history, they blew a 3 or 4 TD lead but still held a 1 point advantage with 5 seconds left to Xaverian. The QB scrambled around trying to run the clock out and tripped for no reason with a second left. Xaverian kicked a 47 yard field goal to win.
WOW WHAT A GAME HF WOULD NOT GO AWAY A CREDIT TO THEM YEA BRONCOS 28—27 THE MVP FOR THIS GAME …I WOULD VOTE FOR THE QB FOR HF ...WHAT HAPPENED TO MURRAY # 7 DID HE GET HURT BECAUSE I SAW HIM ON THE SIDE LINES FOR HALF THE GAME
John,
Yes, sadly I remember that game…
The running around in the backfield idea to burn the clock is never a good one in my humble opinion as a result.
Very nice come back win for the Broncos over HF. They will next face, Southwestern, the defending State champion from Section 6, who beat Chenango Forks today, 21-0, in the West regional. Best of luck to Bronxville at the Dome.
Most people thought Bxvilles size would be the big difference. HF was a pretty big team also. Bxville needs to improve in their pass defense. I don’t know who they will be playing but I am sure whoever itis will get the game film and see how well HF moved the ball through the air.I was surprised that HF threw short passes when they needed 10 yards in the end. Congrats to Bronxville & good luck next week in the dome.
Great win for Bronxville. Gutsy comeback down 2 tds shows the team has some serious heart. I don’t know anything about the Southwestern team, but I think they’ve been a run-based offense in years past. Clearly Bronxville had a little more trouble stopping Hoosick’s passing game more so than they’ve had stopping anyone’s running game this year. Its difficult to go up against an up-tempo passing team if you’ve never really faced one.
joe b,
I agree the play calling by Hoosick seemed surprising at the end throwing shorter routes when they needed 10 yards and had success going down field earlier.
I was really impressed with Hoosick Falls. Obviously, they have some serious skill position players, but what impressed me more was their toughness. They were seriously outsized by the Bronxville offensive front, but while it was clear Bronxville could run on them, they never gave in. The Broncos needed everything they had to get by. I actually thoght Bronxville should have run on every down, but the big pass play is what set up the winning score, so surprise, surprise…the coach knows more than I do. Don’t know much about Southwest, but any time someone beats a Chenango Forks team 21-0, you have to take notice. Best of luck to the Broncos next week.
Nanuet 14 Sc 0. Nanuet much better team speed. 3rdabout to start
Nanuet easily wins states. They also would have crushed Rye this year.
Just a fan, you may be a little over-exuberant on your claim that Nanuet would have “crushed” Rye. But for a few breaks here or there, they very likely would have been a state semifinalist in A. That’s about as far as I figure they would have gone, but it might have been enough to beat Nanuet. Having said that, I hope they take it all, like everyone else around here hopes they do.
KEVIN , YOU WERE CORRECT THAT NANUET DEFENSIVE LINE MAY BE SMALLLER BUT THEY HAVE HEART YOU LEFT OUT STRENGTH ,QUICKNESS AND TOUGHNESS THEY ARE SENSATIONAL WE ARE ALL PROUD WITH OUR TEAMS BRONXVILLE AND NANUET NOW ITS TIME TO SAY GO NEWRO ALL THE WAY
Rye would have beaten Nanuet. Nanuet would have made it close, but theres no way they would have beaten Rye. Guys, I hate to break it to you, Rye was the best class A team in section 1 this year,. They would be in the state semis, no doubt about it, right now, if it werent for a miracle POK play.
It is obvious that people from Rye enjoy injesting (yeah, I know it is spelled incorrectly. Check the pun.) A bit too frequently. They were not the best team in Class A. They did not make it past the semis and the team that beat them lost in the section final. That translates to having at least two teams better than them. Give it up, you lost. Please god, give it up.
Congrats to Nanuet. Good luck in the dome.
Let’s be real – these blogs just aren’t as much fun without Rye in it. Rye will reload next year – Go Garnets in 2010
garnets last forever,
A rye fan but agree with you. Rye people put it behind you!! You are what your record says you are. Look Dino made a bad call but Rye couldn’t make a 1st down, a real credit to POK. Season OVER. Woulda, couda, shouda—but DIDN’T
Congrats to Bville and Nanuet—Keep it up. Go NewRo!
Hello…..Just a fan came on and said that Nanuet beats Rye this year…then two guys not from Rye say they wouldn’t…what in the world does that have to do with “injesting”. After about a thousand people come on this site on a regular basis talking trash about Rye…not one word about Rye beating Roosevelt by 23 (as was predicted by Roosevelt posters) and Nanuet not being able to even play a competitive game vs Rye over the last seven years…what makes anyone think it would have been any different this year? NO ONE from Rye said either. It would have been easy for the “classless” Rye fans to do that and all they did was wish both of these teams good luck. Mr. Garnets Last Forever, maybe you are the one that should be giving it up.
Rye smacked the class A “Champ” by 25 points, a team that should not have even beat POK, who beat Rye on a miracle play.
Nan 28 Sc 7 Final
Call Rye what you want the facts are they didn’t win the section! They have great talent but talent doesn’t win every year-just ask the Yankees, year in and year out they have the best players but went 10 years in between championships. Maybe we can say if Rye punted they would still be rolling. Could they beat Nanuet? Possibly but right now Nanuet could care less what league Rye is in. Give credit where credit is due and accept the fact your team fell short.
The only reason Rye fan are still on these blogs is because people are saying their team wasn’t good. Guys, Ryes team this year could have easily won section, and possibly states. But they lost. So if you just acknowledge how good Rye was this year, they’ll leave.
Jim:
You are absolutely right. As a died in the wool Husky fan and former player, I think I can be very objective here. Just a fan, who can be spot-on with much of his in-game analysis, had an opinion. I had another. I don’t see Nanuet beating Rye. Does anyone see them coming within a TD of JJEF? Also, I’m not taking anything away from Roosevelt or Poughkeepsie. They deserved everything they earned. I just said that I thought Rye would have made it to the Class A semis. I don’t think they would have made it past Burnt Hills, but I don’t think any Section 1A team would have, either.
Tough Year for coach conklin after losing his son this year (Nyack JV coach). I’m happy for him. Good luck to Nanuet.
If new Rochelle wins it’ll almost beat NYS vs. Section 1
New Ro down 7-0. Come on boys.
Jim,
I am huge Rye fan. Everybody can say its sour grapes but Rye does get passed that team that Rooselvelt lost to. They do not fumble 5 times. I am a also a huge Dino fan. Look if he wins another 60 straight with 3 state titles and then loses a playoff game by not punting you will sign up for that. He made a mistake and its unfortunate since its cost the kids a game. I did watch Nanuet a couple times this year and they remind me of Rye. Lacking the stud passer that Rye had with Eck but are very tough. Defense, and they just love to pound you. Old school football! You know they are running the ball but it doesn’t matter they just excute and pound you. I think Nanuet could have played up with the teams in A this year. Rye might win but Nanuet would play with them. I think its a 3pt game either way.
wow, NR looks sluggish. Coach had better wake them up.
Saratoga is controlling the line. Not a good sign.
Nice run Capri
Scary
Until this last drive Saratoga was controlling the line on both sides of the ball. We need a score,
Im having trouble grasping the play calling from New Ro. 3rd and 2 from the 50. Pass. 2nd and 7 from the 19, Pass. The QB is not that good.
Looks like #1 from NR just got burned for the TD.
Why is Rye even in this conversation. They are out and have been out for a while. Let’s concentrate on the 3 teams still in the running. It’s like coke complaining about pepsi. If you are not here that means you lost PERIOD
14-7 Half – Saratoga
NR touchdown.
looks like the pass was tipped into receiver’s hands..
What?
You are right, NR losing the line battle to a much smaller team. Overconfidence maybe – they need to pick up the intensity, this is not a very strong opponent.
How big was that kid in the middle of the line for Schalmont. He looked huge.
I don’t think Saratoga’s line is small. They are just as big according to the roster and what I am seeing on here.
Blue steak QB going to throw a int at some point. When he rolls out he is an extra 5 yards deeper than necessary.
Time for New Ro to turn this up a notch!
i couldnt watch that much of the game, did he have any impact or did he get pushed around, the big kid from schalmont i mean.
Joe B,
The program sheet showed him to be 6’7 295, but he never gave our guys a problem.
I don’t think they are that small, NR is very big. I would not trust too much in the roster for accuracy.
When are they going to figure out every single time the QB from Saratoga passes, he rolls right?
4th and 1, NR runs it into the line for 0 with 11 men stacked in the box. Who is calling these plays?
Now we are talking, 14 up. It’s on you defense.
Draw on 3rd and 11 goes for 60 and a NR score. 14-14.
good job broncos! Mitchell walks away with MVP..he should without a doubt take mvp for the whole Season..the kids has done it all. great job broncos
Broncos win. Mitchell walks away with MVP. He should easily take MVP for the entire season. The kid has done it All.
Edney intercepts at 35 yard line.
great job Broncos! What a game. Both teams played hard and strong and can be proud. Broncos, good luck at the dome.
NR offense stalling again. Some really surprising play calling.
They can stack 11 in the box every play. Edney can’t complete a pass (unless deflected hail mary)
Griffin gets first down
NR 1st and goal inside the 2.
Griffin really coming up big tonight. Some tough runs.
Did Saratoga just waste a TO with New RO having 1st and goal from the 2?
21-14 New Ro. NR getting away with their lives in this one. This should not have been a tough game. NR had better step up next week – if they play like this they have a big problem.
That’s what I’m talking about. 21-14 NR. 4th and 4 picked up and that may have been the game. The line is ours now.
I guess the “overrated” chants by the Saratoga crowd in the first half were a bit premature.
The D palyed great in the 2nd half. 1 maybe 2 1st downs. The O needs some work. Edney is going to need to complete at least a couple of passes.
Interception by NR at the 32 again.
NR ball. Didn’t see the play. Fumble or interception?
RN
I think New Ro finally figured out the QB cannot move left.
4th and 1, Griffin breaks it off the right side again. TD New Ro.
Xavier TD. That’s all folks
For a good defensive team, New Ros d looks pretty bad here. #1 gets burned for the TD again
I can’t believe the camera can’t show the scoreboard clock at least once.
Interception. game over, That’s some scarey stuff. Better come better next game.
Onside kick recovered. Saratoga intercepted on last play, NR escapes 28-21. Overall lousy showing by New Ro, but to play that way and still win is a statement in itself. #1 redeems himself with interception at the end after being burned for 2 passing TDs.
Kevin Devaney,
Johnny McGhee should have been Super 11.
This was still Johnny McGhees team!!! 3 pics including one to send his team to the dome.
Congrats New Ro!!!!!!!!
New those int’s were coming!!!!!!!!!! That killed Saratoga.
I want to be the first one to congradulate Edney from New Ro, a converted WR , to take this team to the dome. This kid didnt say 2 word with all that controversey in the beginning of the year. Coach D great job keeping these kids together, best of luck next week.
What was dissapointing with this game is I did not see one player from Saratoga that would be a likely starter for NR. Still they were able to hang in there. The talent differential was so stark this does not bode well for NR. Lets hope they can pull together before North Tonawanda.
I laughing hysterically when the crowed for New Ro sang Na Na Na good bye. Then Saratoga not only scores but recovers the onside!!! lol the crowed was quiet!!! But McGhee came to the rescue.
New Ro will be playing what I understand is a very good North Townawanda (sp?) team next week. New Ro has had a bad habit of coming out flat, as Kevin alluded to. As dominating as they can be defensively (and they did shut down Saratoga for most of the second half, when it counted) they will have a tough time playing catch-up if they get in a hole next week. If they come out strong, they are certainly capable of taking it all. That kid Edney is one heckuva two-way player; a real stand-out defensively.
Julian Griffin – where did this guy come from? He stood out as the best player on the field tonight, playing with alot of fire. Very impressive. #10 from New Ro is a very strong linebacker – how is this guy not a star? Looks to be their best defender.
Edney throws 3 pics and Mcghee gains 3 pics. Id like to congratulate Lou Dirienzo Jr. and Johnny Mcghees New Ro defense for carrying the hugonauts to the dome!
McGhee is a Hero!
Johnny McGhee got defensive MVP
Coach D has to get the boys ready at the opening tip. NR was overconfident and that is a big problem because Saratoga came in loose. They were winning the line until NR woke up.
Hoosick played a great game, nearly flawless but the fact that Bronxville won with their #1 and #2 running backs, Murray and Berney, missing 3 quarters of the game is nothing short of amazing and shows the depth the Broncos have at RB. Name another team that could have pulled that one off? Add to that the fact that Murray is also their best defensive back and losing him in a game where you need him the most against a spread offense and still winning is again nothing short of amazing. A tip of the hat to Hoosick though because they are the first team to play all 4 quarters vs the Broncos. Hoosick’s kicking and punting game was its Achilles heel for most of the game with Bronxville constantly getting good field position through bad kicks and punts and conversely giving Hoosick long fields with which to work. The kicking game really killed them in the end in that they ultimately lost on a missed extra point while the Bronxville kicker was spot on 4 for 4. The thing I can’t understand is that Hoosick missed its 2nd extra point on a bad shank and very nearly its 3rd one also but why would they have not gone for 2 on their 3rd or 4th TD? Would love to ask their coach that one.
Mcghee was the best player on the filed tonight he deserves that defensive MVP award, I’m happy how the season turned out for him.
Well, it certainly was not easy (except for Nanuet) but the 3 remaining Section 1 teams have made Kevin look like a genius for predicting a clean sweep by Section 1. New Rochelle, Nanuet, and Bronxville have all done Section 1 football proud and are all certainly worthy representatives of Section 1. No matter what happens from here on these teams have done themselves and their schools and communities proud and should be commended for their efforts. It will be an honor for all 3 of these teams to take that last step to Syracuse and play in the dome, a day these boys will remember for the rest of their lives. Let’s hope for another clean sweep next week but, win or lose, these 3 teams should be congratulated for the unbelieveable heart, skill, and desire they have shown in having truly wonderful seasons. Go Section 1; bring those state titles home!!!
to scary – Griffin came from Mamaroneck. He’s one of the RBs that (former) Coach Peterson has driven away from the team. He’s a very athletic streaky RB with incredible returnman skill.
exit 18,
The Mamaroneck guy has been talking about Griffin since day 1.
Former Coach Peterson? What happened at Mamaroneck?
Could of/Should of been 4/5 Section One teams…..maybe, just maybe.
Congrats to all the teams from Section 1 who will make history in the dome. Perhaps the fools who run the dome will let them enjoy it for a few minutes…Wished my Garnets were joining you all up at the dome. The memories last 4 ever!
Congratulations to all of the Section 1 teams for making it to the Dome. As for my alma mata, New Ro, you almost gave me and all your fans a heart attack. I most of all understand the let down after beating MW, but, the Defense did come up big when it had to and the O came through when they needed to. The mark of a champion is the fight that they give, and New Ro did just that tonight. It wasn’t pretty, but a “W” is a “W” and we’ll take it. Hopefully, this week New Ro will take a more positive stance in meeting N T for the championship. All in all, we are proud of what they have acomplished thus far with all of the advesity they faced the begining of the season and putting a green Q. B in a tough situation. Great job all of you New Ro players. Best of Luck in the finals..
Go New Ro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111
Congrats to Coach Naps! One win away from a State Championship! Good thing happen to good people! Things always work out for people like this…how about that Gaels & Wildcats ?????????
IT IS TIME TO CELEBRATE …WE ARE 3 FOR 3 .AND VERY PROUD ..ALL THIS TALK ABOUT RYE BY THE RYE FANS IS NONSENCE BUT I WOULD HAVE ENJOYED RYE REPRESENTING US IN CLASS A. I WAS THRILLEDTO BE ABLE TO WATCH THE GAMES ON MY COMPUTER ...BUT I HAVE A COMPLAINT ...THE BRONXVILLE GAME WAS PRODUCE VERY GOOD ,I WAS ABLE TO WATCH THE WHOLE GAME ...THE NANUET GAME HAD A FEW STILL PICTURE PARTS BUT IT WAS FAIR TO WATCH BUT THE NEWRO GAME WAS TRANSMITTED HORRIBLE ,THE PICTURE WOULD STOP ITS MOTION SO MANY TIME THAT I DID NOT SEE HALF OF THE TOUCHDOWNS -,...DID ANY OF YOU EXPERIENCE THE SAME POOR TRANSMITTAL OF THE GAME AT TIMES MY PICTURE WOULD STOP AND BE STILL FOR MANY MINUTES….P.S. WILL THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES BE DONE ALIVE ALSO???? BIG JOE
It was the Gaels and the wildcat fault when the program was no good but now that he has a bunch of studs it is Naps that got them to the dome
Awesome that all three teams won yesterday. It is a blast at States…go get ‘em!
Congratulations Section 1 Football. Way to go and represent Section 1 with good hard football. Good luck at the DOME! P.S I just heard Rye is playing in Mexico against there National Football Team. NOT!
Funny, I heard they were playing the Huskies again…with the Rye modified all stars. Rye wins that one too!
With all the talk about Rye having better young talent lately. Look at these score, possibly a sign of whats to come.
2008 8th grade modified:
Harrison 19
Rye 12
2009 8th grade modified:
Harrison 19
Rye 0
Another thriller in Kingston last night. This game had a little of everything. Hail Mary’s, on-side kicks, late come-backs, almost last minute heroics, interceptions but most of all two great AA teams, New Rochelle and Saratoga.
The Saratoga newspaper compared it to a heavy weight fight.
Kevin Devaney’s article during the week about New Rochelle’s numerous running backs hit the nail on the head.
To NewRo: My thanks to all of you and now it’s on to the dome and let’s win there too.
(June 5, 1968, Robert Kennedy: “My thanks to all of you and and now it’s on to Chicago and let’s win there too”)
Good luck New Ro
http://www.saratogian.com/articles/2009/11/22/sports/doc4b08c3b9cf33a879306420.txt
Johnny McGhee was amazing last night
AMAZING!!! He had to play, this is his team!!! This was his Destiny!!!
Shkeli, received another unsportrsmanship penalty . He leads the league in those also. He hit a player 10 feet out of bounds yesterday.
Ok..who cares..?
10960. I havent been on this blog for a while but im proud of Julian and Mamaroneck is ruiting for him, Sir=Tay Jacksn, who also used to go to Mamaroneck and New Ro. Coach Peterson stepped down as the head coach of Mamaroneck which I believe was planned, nothing dramatic happened for that to occur. If the head coach will be who I think it will be next year their goign to have a hell of a turnaround. Yhe field is being rennovated, turf next season, good luck new ro, do it for the 914.
Way to go New Ro.Great play calling, give the coach a cigar. Also John McGhee is the man.Good luck at the dome….
Here is an article on North Tonawanda. We should beat them but we need to come out and play like we are behind.
Go New Ro

Any team that gets to the finals of a State Tournament is going to be a good team. All of our Section Champions will have to play at their best in order to win.
No mistakes, no penaties and above all no turnovers.
Best of luck to all of our teams going to the Dome.
ok Hogan was obviously not at the game SHKRELI received a horse collar and tossed the player out of bounds. So you dont know his name or the penalty he received, so what do you know?
player…
thats just the point… he got the blame for uncommitted and whacky parents.
Hogan youre an idiot it was called a horsecollar
Guys, Cornwall lost 41-16 to burnt hills today, so it didn’t really matter Roosevelt played terribly and lost, they wouldve gotten smacked by Burnt Hills. I think both Rye and POK could have easily beaten Cornwall, but neither of them would have beat Burnt Hills.
You guys from Rye just won’t let it go. You were out of it 3 weeks ago. Get over it.
Why do all of you guys hate Rye so much. Its funny how they get bashed on a daily basis.
truth
Which Gaels and Wildcats teams are you talking about?
RYE GETS BASHED BECAUSE THEY ARE SOO GOOD , IF THEY PLAYED LIKE SAUNDERS OR PORTCHESTER NOBODY WOULD WRITE ABOUT THEM
Big Joe-
No need to use Port Chester as an example. We just beat Mamaroneck and very easily could have been 7-3 this year. Wishing we had you (Harrison) on the schedule next year. Keep your negative comments to yourself!
Port Chester only played 9 games and was 4-5. How can they have “very easily been 7-3”? Just doesnt add up!!
dm50,
PC played so well one of their potential wins should count for two
Wouldn’t it be great if Kevin & Lohud could come up with a way for all of his Lohud fans / followers to gather at the same restaurant / bar next weekend to cheer on our NY teams together. While you’re at it invite coaches and players that made the season special for all. Make it happen and Kevin wins MVP of ‘09. Regardless, Congrats to New Ro, Nanuet & Bronxville.
SORRY ABOUT PORTCHESTER ,I WAS THINKING ABOUT THEM THE PAST 3-5 YEARS AND DONT TELL ME THEY HAD GOOD YEARS
Oh Please PC beats Harrison.. Thats the funniest comment of the year.. Maybe in Soccer or Basketball but nobody really cares. PC hasnt beaten Harrison over 25 years in Football. Thats like saying Rye can beat the Giants.
AHAHAHAH,
PC beating Harrison? what a joke. PC is a laughingstock, they have been terrible. I mean for this comment to be crude because of a PC fan wishing Harrison was on its schedule next year. Why? to lose 35-7 like you do every year.
freakin shoot me u ssHO*s
i typed a 7 instead of the 6!!!!!! 6 and 3
in any case we would love to play harrison especially now that you dont have any of our kids(transfers) playing for you and FYI our record against rye is better than yours. LMAO!!!!
PC does not have an overall winning record then Harrison. I think you have eaten to much Hubba’s and the chilli has warped your brain. Your telling me since you beat Mamaroneck (which sucked this year) You can take on the top teams in A- South. NOT!!!!
All I asked is why Rye gets bashed, and PC gets killed by Harrison fans. You guys are too much. And Husky easy on PC, because the last time I checked, you guys have gotten HAMMERED by Rye.
PC…your record vs Rye is 4-5-2…I feel your pain, but Harrison still has a winning record against Rye despite losing the last seven straight.
Green…nice try writing about the last two years 8th grade modified teams. Maybe you didn’t know it, but Rye had a 9th grade team both those years with 7-8 8th graders on it. Rye also won the JV game 13-0 this year and 27-7 last year, and last but not least the 7th grade modified score was 44-0 Rye. They played a second time and Rye won again by a similar margin. Don’t misjudge the upcoming talent level at Harrison. If you speak to some of the coaches at HHS, I can tell you they are not overly optimistic….they won’t be bad…but they may fare very well if they can beat the Garnets once or twice over the next five seasons.
Finally, Nobody (from Rye)came on here boasting about Rye. Last year, all I read about was that Rye couldn’t beat this A team and that AA team and the “big boys” would have spanked Rye. This year a couple of class A bloggers say the same thing about Rye being better than Nanuet and everyone goes nuts. Hypothetical match-ups are fun to talk about but anyone with any intellegence knows that there is no sure fire answer about who would win a game between teams that didn’t play each other. I would like to say that the first comment on this matter came from a Nanuetsupporter and other than myself nobody from Rye has commented on it.
