Nanuet 14 0
Bronxville rolled over a game but way overmatched Ellenville. Looked like a ascrimmage; this one was over by halftime. Ellenville looked stunned and hopeless at their predicament. Can’t see anyone stopping Bronxville; as Kevin said, they look like they are on a mission. Cannot remember seeing a team with that many weapons.
Any word on Rooservelt yet?
Nauet state champs!! Congrats!!
Cornwall is up 24 to 7 mid third quarter. This is too easy. Go Dragons
Cornwall 24 to 14 late third
Corn 31 Roos 14 3:48
What was score in Nanuet game also Tuckahoe?
Cornwall 31 to 14 start of fourth
Corn 31 Roos 21 9:23
Cornwall 31 to 21 final. Great game Roosevelt
Does it seem that when Cornwall is or may be considered an underdog, they just keep saying, “bring it on?!”. Great win, and one helluva season for Roosevelt.
Its sounded like Rooservelt made alot of mistakes. Thats too bad, but Rooservelt should keep there heads up for winning are very tough Class A Section..
Congrats to Roosevelt players and coaches on a great year!
In this day and age, I think the Indians needed more TEAM depth to make a serious run at a Class A State Title. Suiting up your JV team to make your Varsity team look like it has more players than it really has, is not going to cut it. Hopefully as a result of this year’s success, more kids will come out for the football team next year and their numbers will be up.
Any score from Fordham vs Chaminade game tonight at Fordham University
Hey Roosevelt, hold your heads up high and congrats for a great season in Class A. A number of other A teams would loved to have achieved your results!!
Come back strong again next year!!
dam it ,this is an un-expected loss——two out of four is not bad , however in the ole day , we creamed section 9….. Well the ROOSEVELT team had a good year and deserve congratulation …DOSENT BRONXVILLE REMING YOU OF RYE…THE TOWNS ARE VERY SIMILAR I hope they go all the way
Next up for Nanuet: Section 2’s Schalmont, which defeated Section 7’s Moriah in the other Eastern Class B regional:

http://blog.timesunion.com/sidelines/schalmont-rallies-for-regional-win/2692/
Great year, Roosevelt; hopefully your success will finally revive football in Yonkers. There’s no shame in losing to Cornwall; it’s a very solid team with an excellent passing game and its own dangerous runner, Tyree Smallwood. Maybe the Dragons can take down Burnt Hills…
Best of luck to all remaining Section 1 teams…
Just published on Varsity 845: The Times Herald-Record’s Cornwall-Roosevelt game article. Apparently, Cornwall used Roosevelt’s own no-huddle offensive strategy to get the win:
http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091114/SPORTS31/911140323
hahahahahahah roosevelt lost hahahahaha they succ hahahahahaha pk should have beat them they would have won states. Any team would have be the cornwall dragons
B U T A G A I N I L A U G H
HAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Congrat’s to Cornwall and Roosevelt. Cornwall came in and executed a winning game plan and forced several turnovers. Good peformance.
I honestly thought this was a down year in Sec 1A. Harrison, Nyack, Eastchester, and Ossining were banged up and/or are in rebuilding mode. Rye, Somers, Pough, Lakeland, and Roosevelt had fine seasons, but no team really seemed complete (strongly balanced) in my opinion.
I look at teams like Burnt Hills and Sweet Home and just don’t see Roosv or Cornwall advancing against teams of their caliber. But hey, anything can happen in a football game.
Good effort guys!
The_Cams,
Rye was that team this year. Completely balanced, big, strong. They would have beaten Cornwall last night, no doubt about it. Its a shame what happened against POK.
Coach Meade:
Great job getting this far with 10 two way starters and no bench.
I hope you can at least get 20-25 kids to come out for next year.
It would be a shame if we have a Saunders situation in 2010, one year after winning the Section title.
Good luck
Man we were so loaded in class A this year and we immidiately got eliminated.
I cant say I’m not disapointed.
Thing:
Considering that Rye had problems containing Poughkeepsie’s Josh Graham, what makes you think that it would have been the same story with Cornwall’s Tyree Smallwood? As “big and strong” as Rye was this year, the team was at a disadvantage when matched up with faster teams…
I know that this isn’t going to be a popular sentiment on this blog, but it’s becoming apparent that in classes AA and A, the gap between Sections 1 and 9 has narrowed significantly. Don’t forget that Cornwall came very close to knocking off Nyack last year…
I was the first to say it. I told everyone by week 3 that no one from section 1 class A would make it to the dome.
Rye would of beat cornwall though. I don’t know about POK, but Rye defiantly would not have given up 31 pts
Hell yea Rye would have done better you kidding me?
Hell Yea, Rye’s loss was unfortunate, they would have ran through cornwall.
Good effort by Roosevelt and Tuckahoe. Going in the consensus was the class A and in D teams had no chance to win the states. They did have a chance to win yesterday. Cornwall(from what I read) and Eldred played well and deserved to win. Eldred will win the next game but then get crushed in the final. Cornwall will probably lose to Burnt Hills and would have no chance against Sweet Home. But at least they will have the opportunity. Good luck to Broxville, Nanuet, and New Ro who all have a realistic chance even though they won’t be favored in all their games.
yeah cornwall is the best no arguing….they shouldve won last year too but got hosed by refs…dragons
How was Cornwall, going to deal with Rye’s size and discipline? Rye would have managed Cornwall speed just find and would have drove the ball up and down the field on them.
Coulda, woulda, we will never know. We do know Rye took care of Roosevelt pretty handily, but does not mean much at this point.
I do not know what poeple are saying about Class A, Class A was stacked this year. Imagine if Nyack had one of their traditional stacked teams or if Degree does not get hurt this year? Or Bronner?
It was a very good year for Class AA, but I thought from a competitive stand point Class A was GREAT this year.
Rye easily beats Cornwall,,,,they don’t turn ball over 6 times. But the real question is if Rye stayed in B I think they wouldn’t have been able to get pass Nanuet. Any thoughts out there?
Rye would have slapped cornwall hard. They had a tough time containing POK’s Josh Graham those few plays, but so did a lot of teams. I wouldnt say rye was at a dsadvantage against speed teams…Roosevelt is a speed team and rye spanked them. and that was not the only “speed” team on their schedule.
Rye wouldve won B this year with ease. Including Nanuet. I am not even a big rye fan, i followed them through here this year, but was shocked when a deflated rye team that knew state playoffs were out after that heartbreaker to POK, played a TOUGH game against a huge AA school JJEF, who played New Ro close and only lost 21-14. Wow.
Rye could not beat cornwall…even though roosevelt played a bad game so did cornwall…they didnt capitalize in the red zone and they also had some big turnovers one of which resulting into a roosevelt td
I won’t ever say that any Section 1A team would just run right through Cornwall. They always take talent to the table, and they are always well-coached; it seems they really go to work on whatever scouting reports they get when they play a Section 1 team. But yeah, Rye talent-wise was probably the best in 1A, it just didn’t happen for them. Cornwall may have been able to break some big plays on them, but overall, it would have been a much tougher matchup for them physically, over the course of 4 quarters. I’m not saying Roosevelt didn’t desrve the section championship. Any time a team takes a beating the way they did against Rye and refocuses to win a championship, they’ve earned it. But Rye was one long pass play with time expiring away from a rematch with a team they beat by 3 touchdowns. Guess we’ll never know!
Congrats to Roosevelt on a great season, and here’s hoping Cornwall can show Burnt Hills what we have known around here for some time; that they are a championship program.
Rye does not easily beat Cornwall.
Orange (section 9), Dutchess and Putnam counties are the fastest growing areas in New York State. This increasing suburban middle class population largely is from Westchester, Rockland, Bronx, Queens. The attraction is lower real estate. They have put in place the youth sports programs they enjoyed as kids and this benefits the high school programs.
It’s only the beginning. The more northern suburban counties will continue to get better.
Just a fact
Agree that A had a great yr and if not for certain injuries liketo Degree and Bronner, the comp would have even been better.
As to rye, also agree with your “woulda, coulda, shoulda” BUT DIDNT!! Means nothing now, move on, season over!!
Bronxville wins B this year and maybe even A. They have the size and skill positions to play in any class, just not AA.
i like bronxvilles team a lot- they would probably do well in B this year
bronxville nanuet would be a classic
“I think” they may be headed for a collision with Forks. THAT would be one I would love to see!
ENOUGH ABOUT RYE!!!!
THEY LOST!!!!
THEIR SEASON IS OVER JUST LIKE THE OTHER 40+ TEAMS…..
THE ONLY TEAMS WE SHOULD BE COMMENTING ON ARE THOSE WHO ARE STILL PLAYING!!!
GO NEW RO!
GO BRONXVILLE!
GO NANUET!
GREAT JOB ROOSEVELT AND TUCKAHOE!
Rye should be representing Section 1. They easily win states in A….just not in B
But Rye couldn’t beat Nanuet. They match them with size, really tough defense, and their coach punts the ball with with 27 seconds in game.
Someone other than me is writing as “Jim”....I know there’s a ton of Jim’s in the world…...but I would never write anything about a game I didn’t see between Roosevelt and Cornwall other than to congratulate Roosevelt on a great season and wish Cornwall the best of luck.
Jim, plus there is no way you are picking against YOUR team. lol.
I thought that “Jim” post looked fishy
i knew that wasnt the rye jim as well- and the all caps “enough about rye” post was either bigjoe or husky92
I agree with the logical probability that Rye would have defeated Cornwall.
Remeber that Minnesota Vikings team with Randy moss that went 15-1 but was eliminated by the Atlanta falcons who went on to lose to Denver in the superbowl?
9 out of 10 times Minnesota wins that game to go on and win it all.
The better team can be eliminated no doubt. There’s a possibility that Rye may very well have been the best team this year that didn’t win it all.
Look at the New England patriots undefeated losing to NY Giants. I use these NFL examples to help make sense of the argument that Rye may have done a lot better than Roosevelt this weekend.
How any team that lost in a tournament would do against a future potential opponent is 100% personal opinion. Only Rye fans would make such a big deal of woulda, shoulda, coulda scenarios. I do agree Rye seemed like the best team this year in A. Though they weren’t – they lost. In a tournament style format – the team that wins has to be considered the best. The team that loses in the championship game is considered #2. Check the AP basketball polls the day after the national championship. Every year the loser of the championship is #2 regardless of circumstance.
I do think this was a great year of parity in Class A. A lot of teams were hobbled by injuries – Ossining losing Degree for the whole season, Bronner going down for Eastchester, Nichols going down for Nyack, Eck getting hurt in the 3rd qtr against Pok. Injuries are part of football – it just goes to show you how unpredictable things can be in HS sports. Had Degree, Bronner and Nichols been healthy all year I think A would’ve had a different look in the playoffs for sure.
Not Big Joe or Husky92….
Just a guy who likes following hs football and cant stand the non-stop barrage of “Rye is the best thing ever” even though they didn’t make it this year.
The truth is, I have no connection to harrison or RYe, just don’t want to hear the “well, if this team was in the state tournament they would beat everyone in class A or B”
Rye is not in it anymore, its time for their supporters to let this season go, and move on!
Just like EVERY OTHER TEAM DOES!
New ro is takin it this year!
I said it once, and I will say it again this New Ro defense maybe the best New Ro has ever seen.
New Rochelle has an overwhelming defense
Stop accusing me jerks!! I never use a different name. Neither does Big Joe!Rye lost get over it, and they will be lucky if they make the playoffs next year. Rye is going towards a long down time to come. All you have is Eck. You lose your whole line. All you Rye fans will not be blogging anymore and you will all soon jump off the Rye band wagon. Ive seen it before. If Rye loses and doesnt make the playoffs, they will play Saunders in a bowl game and win big and gain there yuppie confidence back.. Rye blows…PS Harrison 3 Class A Titles to Rye -0 HAHAHAAHAHAH
All you RYE fans can thank DINO for not punting
happy holidays. Stop crying and get over it you lost three games this year welcome to the big leagues!
New Ro ball on 9
on M-W 9**
Field Goal Attempt no good
AHHH COME ON NEW RO FINISH THIS
Wow, I’ll have to check this game out on MSG tomorrow… M-W may be a great program, but no team can overcome the law of averages. New Ro was due to turn the tables at some point in time…
The New Rochelle came out!!!!
Lets go New Ro…
This is a game now
Any Score, what Q are they in?
Things are getting hot now
This game is intense
Score please
HUSKY 92. last 7 years, rye versus harrison 7-0. they will reload. they will have great players step up as always. and your midget huskies dont have any sammy’s in the hopper from what everyone can see. not to mention you cant be competitive against rye or in A without 1)Sammy or 2) a line that has an average height of 5’4’’ every season. sorry pal!
oh and go new ro! and bxville! and nanuet!
Ha! Ha! its over!!! New Rochelle will take it all!!!
Defense won the game for New Rochelle. Monroe would not go down but New Rochelle showed way more determination.
WE DID IT!!!!!!
New Ro lucky it rained
I heard North Tonawanda and Webster had a dog fight down to the last minute. A 2 point game.
way to go New Ro!!!!
haha 10960 can we get some love now? you’ve never been fully convinced on new ro in the two years ive seen you on this blog, what ya think?
Does New Ro go to the dome now or do they have another game @ Dietz?
Moose you are a moron.Harrison will dismantle Rye next year. You guys are finished in A.Welcome to the big leagues.
Goodnight Rye! You would have beaten Cornwall, Nanuet, the Giants. Enough already. BTW, how was your week off?
914,
Where have you been? We asked you to talk about football and you went into hiding. Now New Ro wins and you come out????
hahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats to New Ro. Two more to go!!!!!!!
Who would win a game between Iona Prep ‘08 and New Rochelle ‘09? I personally think Iona ‘08 would demolish this years New Ro team
any thoughts?
Letter to Jen Simmons:
Thanks you for letting me get to READ about the New Ro/ Roosevelt outcomes instead of SEEING it on this website. I am glad your attitude and decision making has gotten you ahead in the business world. Maybe in 2010 we can have 6 games in Section 1 instead of 8. And better yet, none will be shown on this web site. For 2011, you can muzzle Kevin and he will not be able to report on Section 1 at all due to possible litigation of his comments hurting someone’s feelings.
Again, Jen Simmons, you are the best!
Maybe in 2012 you can run for President!
Congratulations to New Ro. They came up big when they had to.
Good luck next week.
To all the non believers, never count down a determined team!
GO NEW RO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All that Rye has is Eck? You fools. He is the nucleus of the squad, no doubt, but for all you Rye haters you all get another year to seethe because Rye wins A next year going away. Line is deep and will be JUST fine. Backs are strong and nasty. Receivers are winners and become great with Eck doing the feeding. Chemistry and heart are tremendous.
Harrison will be good but not quite there…Eastchester will be good but a tick behind Harrison. That will be a great consolation bowl though.
Come watch Rye with New Ro and Prep in the June camp and then make those ignorant comments. What a bunch of bone brains.
Congrats to New Ro, Nanuet and Bronxville, I really believe they will all take home State. Go get ‘em.
The curse is finally lifted, well boys defense wins championships. I got to give alot of credit to the monroe program, You guys are a great classy program your fans aren’t but you guys are. I also gotta give credit to Danny Scalo, your a great competitor hope you have a great collegiate career somewhere. Nobody deserves this more than Coach d, I promise you you will never meet a more stand up guy. I would also like to congratulate the entire New Rochelle family. We been waiting for this for a very long time. Great game louis. Lead us to the promise land. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE DOME !!!!
HUSKY 92:
Record from 2000 to 2009 – Rye 8, Harrison 3
2009 Class A Regular Season Records – Rye 5-1, Harrison 4-2
2009 Class A Playoffs – Rye 1-1, Harrison – didn’t qualify
2009 League A-South Champions = Rye (tied with Roosevelt)
Enough said.
I am telling you. Rye will simply not reload like they did this year. backs like Christian Bonaventura and Kevin Turco are not on the same level as cole mccormack. You dont have two massive OL like Brian Powers or Brian Levinson to simply step in. Next years Rye team will not be great.
guys honestly take the harrison and rye stuff elsewhere, tonight is about the best team in the section NEW ROCHELLE
Husky 92…. Eck, O Callaghan, Meyerson, Collins, Simolacaj,Pickup,Turco, Barton,Vitiello, McReddie, and Longo. All of them coming back next year…you better not count those chickens yet. I have talked to several people who know Harrison football…this years team over achieved…they are not necessarily in the on deck circle swinging the lead bat to win Class A next year. Artie may have done his best coaching job this year. Hey, I could be wrong but they surely will beat Rye again one of these days, but don’t look for them to put together a long streak against Rye either.
Many come on this site to hype Rye….if they cease to stay competitive in Class A, that will surely stop. Some over-hype them at times but so what? There is plenty of hype to go around for everyone. There is only one guy/girl that has given legendary status to Stepinac…this year and forever backwards…..we all know who that is. Yes, Chubby continues to twist. Remember…I never refered to him/ her as stupid….he/she just twists and spins…no one knows better than him/her that 95% of people speculating about hypothetical match-ups( woulda, coulda, shoulda )are not Rye posters.
Finally…my initial reaction to Rye not punting against Pok was just like everyone else’s. At the time I expected him to punt. The fact remains that Dino has forgotten more football than the people in the stands ever knew. Thinking back on it…I know what Dino was thinking:
1) Two of his starting linemen were on the bench banged up… possible blocked punt anyone? Bobbled or bad snap?
2) The guy returning the punt would have been the same guy that caught the winning pass. Long punt return?
3) Rye didn’t do anything risky to make the seven yards…QB sweep…run a few seconds off the clock and give Pok the ball 55 yds. from paydirt with 19 seconds left and no timeouts ? That last pass would have been a TD from 99 or 55 yards. It was a great miracle victory for Pok…. I know that this is the season to second guess…Last year when Dobbs lost everyone was all over Chris Wagner…how about Lou D at NewRo last year after the Monroe loss, or second guessers writing about Iona getting out coached tonight on the blog about their game. Most of the Dino criticism this year has come from non-Rye fans. I don’t see how anyone from Rye could possibly think that it will be anything but a sad sad day when he and Tom Maloney ride off into the sunset. These are good ,dedicated people that have had to take way too much guff this year for a three loss season. There are towns that would have a parade if their team went 6-3.
Incidently, the Dion Lewis that starred for U Pitt tonight against Notre Dame is the same Dion Lewis that starred for Albany Academy when they upset Rye 19-16 in 2006 at Kingston. Infact he gained more yards rushing against the Irish tonight (152) than he did against Rye that night. The Garnets missed a 50 yd.FG(wide left) at the buzzer after trailing 19-0 with 8 minutes left in that one , then rattled off 27 straight wins before losing to Eastchester this year…. still Dino is second guessed and criticized.
NO ONE CARES ABOUT RYE RIGHT NOW!!!!! CONGRATS NEW ROOOOO
whats goin on in section one class A
OSSINING:
how does the O stack up next year. Does Dakota degree come back or does he go to college if so what college?
what about matt laccetti and lemar johnson what are they doin.
roosevelt:
what is dave and donavon doin next year? what colleges are they goin to? what is that reciever doin too? who’s recruiting him?
rye:
nothimg said
somers:
washed up
what good team am i missing??
Nice post “fr”. Obviously a rye person with that intel. Way to diss the kids coming into their senior run. Do us all a favor and go root for Port Chester. The line will be tougher than they are huge and the backs will beat teams down.
Tell me, WHO is going to beat them? Somers, HG, Fox Lane…it isn’t Harrison or Eastchester.
Garnet you can’t compare Rye to Harrison at this point due to the different levels they’ve played on. You had extra years in B.
Congratulations to New Ro , good job boys. I love how all the Rye people speculate so much. Hey moose, Sammy played in Class B, 96-99. Letsbehonest is so right, how the hell can you compare. First you say, Rye will beat Bergen Catholic which is the biggest crock of pooh. And, now you guys already won 2010. What is in the water in Rye, or you guys still havnt woken up, you are in Class A. No more cake walks to the dome! Trust me, Ive watch my Huskies have a tough time. And, this all has to stop w/kids being left back to play another year! Where are the Guidance Councelors, teachers and the Principal to advice these kids? I hope Rooservelt did not start a trend! Kids Listen, Graduate, go to college, learn something you love, Graduate College and go make some money! DO NOT STAY BACK, it will haunt you!
I have a great story this year fellas. I have a lady friend from Harrison, who has a son who attends Iona Prep, (8th grader). She and her son has been working out at a gym in Yonkers. At the gym, there were alot of young black and hispanic kids which turned out to be Rooservelt football team. Well, she over heard them saying, that some players were playing in there sneakers other then cleats, losing traction. She became friends w/ the team this year! She so happened donated 35 pairs of cleats to the team. The team really loved it, and treated my friend and son as family, with alot of love which is beautiful. They also took the son under there wing and helped him trained. Good job Rooservelt! Karma was on your side all year.. Very nice!
The New Rochelle-Monore Woodbury Game:
Huge game – Huge win – 2 Huge defensive stands in the end. Classic high powered offense vs the stingy defense. Louis Di Rienzo Jr. and his defense hold tough again.
Kevin Devaney Jr.
You know how to pick em. You picked New Ro 21 – 17.
Sports Editor of Journal News
I was disappointed in the coverage in today’s Journal News. Just one article. I realize there were lots of playoff games in the state that needed to covered but Gee Wiz, the top 2 teams in the state with a rich history. Usually Rich Carpinello has a interesting human interest story to go with Devaney’s article. I know, Carpinello was covering other playoff games in a different part of the state but gee wiz couldn’t someone else be assigned to the game? That was a huge game.
IT IS NICE TO READ NICE STORIES LIKE THE ONE HUSKEY 92 TOLD ,-..I WISH THERE WERE MORE…..AND STOP THIS BASHING OF RYE AND HARRISON …..THESE KIDS ARE ALL GOOD GUYS WHO ALL OF US WOULD BECOME FRIENDS WITH IF WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY…AGAIN ..IT WAS NICE TO READ THAT A HARRISON WOMEN TREATED THE ROOSEVELT TEAM AS GOOD NEIGHBORS..GOD BLESS THEM AND WISH THEM WELL ALL THE WAY TO THE DOME
Jim,
Half of the kids you named dont even start and really aren’t that good.
This years Harrison team was an over achiever. IF you guys think that thy were better than Eastchester you’re crazy. They won that game with grit and determination, even though Eastchester was capable of beating them 35-0 in my opinion. And next years Harrison team wont be like the 06 or 05 teams. The difference is…size. Harrison has just not been big enough or strong enough the past few years. The 06 team had big 6’2 220 guys scattered across the team. Now harrisons got 5’10 160 pd. kids.
I guess all this talk at the beginning of the season that coach D should let McGhee play QB is out the window. Great Job New RO, Take it home for section 1 along with the rest teams.
Fan,
Very fair point.
Since no one else has done so, congrats to New Ro QB Edney for silencing myself and others who wanted to see McGhee out there.
I know some might say New Ro’s D is carrying them, which is a fair point as well, but at this point if you are the QB, I do not care what role you have, you get the credit. Anyone ever hear of Trent Dilfer and the Baltimore Ravens of 2000???????????
Again congrats to Edney!!!!!!!!!!!!
Husky 92 – Great story. This happens alot @ less talked about programs (Roosevelt, Port Chester, etc…) Thanks to all the unsung heroes out there. Your charity is greatly appreciated.
“Defense wins championships.”
Hopefully, this will continue to hold true for New Rochelle on its quest for the state Class AA title. Good luck Huguenots…
Just finished watching MW vs. New Ro on MSG. MW on two different plays near the end of the game, WR’S DROPPED easy catches. One would have put MW at New Ro’s 4 yard line.
More woulda, coulda’sssssszssssss
Here’s an interesting quote:
“They were really athletic, really fast and really aggressive… They hit hard. They were relentless, to be honest with you. If one person doesn’t get you down, there’s 10 more coming after you.”
-Monroe-Woodbury QB Dan Scalo, speaking to the Times Herald-Record on the New Rochelle defense. Link to the rest of the story:
http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20091115/SPORTS31/911150335
McGhee is a great asset to New Ro. He played well and kept the Defenses watching him as Edney ran wild over their opponets. Edney steped up and did an outstanding job For the Purple Wave.
New season begins with Sat.
GO NEW RO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeff P.
Thanks for the link. That was a great article.
You know, the way you guys talk about players coming back for a 5th year despite graduating puzzles me.
I’ve been hearing this all year long.
How does it happen? I don’t get.
Someone give me a lesson on that because when I graduated High school (2002) the thought of that idea would be crazy.
Once you graduate your gone…atleast thats what I think, am I right?
Jim,
I like the point you made when you said, “Incidently, the Dion Lewis that starred for U Pitt tonight against Notre Dame is the same Dion Lewis that starred for Albany Academy when they upset Rye 19-16 in 2006 at Kingston. Infact he gained more yards rushing against the Irish tonight (152) than he did against Rye that night.”
LOL that was a good punch right there
New ro far and away the better team. The weather kept this one close – should have been a blowout. Head to head John Jay and No Rockland beat MW – possibly White Plains.
Scary,
Shut the hell up you dont know what your talking about. If anything the weather affects the spread offense more than it effects the wing T. The Passing team will have more difficulty in the rain than a rushing offense.
JJEF nor White plains isn’t beating Monroe, Woodbury. Every now and then, there’s an air head on this blog, thanks to you Scary.
Power,
Welcome back. You’re a funny guy.
I think you do have a point, that no way was New Ro far and away the better team last night. I watched parts of the game on MSG. Hopefully later I will watch the whole game.
But the point is, MW fans could argue New Ro got lucky with the win. As I pointed out earlier, near the end of the game when MW was down 21-14, MW had two EASY passes dropped by their players. Again, one would have put MW at the New Ro 4 at worst.
Another point, one of New Ro’s TD’s was a fake hand off and the tight end ran past TWO safeties picking their noses, and caught a TD. That is a mental lapse. I do not forsee a TD coming that easy next week for New Ro.
New Ro was the better team last night, but to say “New Ro far and away the better team” is just plain ridiculous.
Hopefully “scary” is just be caught up in the after glow of finally getting over the hurdle. It is a good feeling!
10960,
I do not think you have put your opinion out there yet in regards to age limits for HS players. What are your thoughts of HS teams having age limits, and if so what should be the age?
just a fact,
Its called a play action. NFL teams get outsmarted by them. It was a great play call and i don’t see how you can say new ro isn’t better for making a better play call.
10801,
Thanks for letting me know about play action. lol.
Just so you know, Safeties are supposed to play PASS FIRST. But I am sure you know that, Right?
Plus I said New Ro was the BETTER team last night. But do you agree with Scary, that New Ro was FAR and AWAY better than New Ro?
If so, I think you are drinking some of the purple cool aide too!
just a fact,
I agree, i wouldn’t say far and away better, but i just didn’t agree with your point. Monroe was expecting a run and new ro called play action. That’s great coaching which we have to to expect from lou dirienzo. honestly though it doesn’t matter, WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10801,
Definitely a good play call. My point was Monroe was sitting in s standard 4-3/ two deep coverage. I was watching the video and two safeties got their eyes in the backfield and the tight end( who was not chipped at the line of scrimmage) runs right past not one, but two safeties. I can see one guy forgetting “pass first”, but for both guys, is as I said earlier a mental lapse!
I guess I would give more credit to the play calling if it were like 3rd and short or 4th and inches, where everyone is playing run first and the New Ro coaches call that same exact play. Then hands down we all would say great play calling. But in this case, I think the ball was just inside the MW 30. If you are the MW D-coordinator you would have to be furious. You had the right defense and that play should never work. I do not foresee that play working next week, but I hope I am wrong and it works TEN times!
Either way, I do agree with you assessment, New Ro won and that is all that matters.
Two more to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha to be fair, i am basing everything off online updates (thanks Jen Simmons) so ill trust your judgment since you were actually able to break down the play. I’m just happy new rochelle was able to prove they are the best defense in the state, holding monroe outside of the first play to just 148 total yards
Just a fact,
I think the age limit of 18 years Max is just fine. My question is, how can you play high school ball after graduating high school?
I never decided to question that but its lingered on this blog long enough for me to be curious.
As far as Monroe-Woodbury being far inferior to New Rochelle; You kidding me? If New Rochelle had an offense that can match their very stout defense, I would agree.
New Rochelle has a defense that creates excellent field position by turnovers, not to mention that its a defense that scores as well. Not to say that defense cant be credited to a teams caliber but turnovers have a bit of luck involved.
I will say that when your beat and the receiver who beats you drops a very good pass, you were lucky. You were not that good because you didn’t prevent the completion any more than the receiver who drops the ball after having you beat.
Of course its easy to talk up a storm after the fact LOL.
anybody know mount football score.i do not think a AAA team should move down in playoffs.if you do not qualify in your div. you go home.to me the playoffs make no sense.if mount plays hayes maybe i should root for hayes.
Is Johnny McGhee New Ro’s back up QB?
10960,
I think that is the problem. There is no age limit at the moment, I believe. You bring up another good point, how can someone play AFTER they graduate. I wonder if someone has the answer.
The rest we seem to agree with. Wow, it only took a full season. Just kidding.
There is an age limit in HS football, u cant by 19 by the first day of practice. If you are, you are not eligible to play.
mrvolo,
you can never root for hayes if you graduated from mount saint michael? “march on ye sons of mt st michael”, we know the rest. welcome back, and i look forward to your input during the basketall season.
Just a fact & 10960,
From the NYSPHSAA 2008-2010 Handbook, page 90
1. AGE AND GRADE: A student shall be eligible for interschool competition in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 until his/her ninteenth birthday. If the age of nineteen years is reached on or before July 1, the student may continue to participate during that school year in all sports.
NOTE: Students may be eligible regardless of age or grade if they have been approved through the State Education Department’s Selection/Classification Program. The 15 year old below the 9th grade need only meet selection/classification maturity standards to be eligible at the high school level.
Sorry about that: it should read on or after July 1
Age Limit,
I think its age 19 by July 1….then you can still play..I think I know just posted…why is it such a big deal..if Dakota Degree took all AP classes and would get college credit..and withdrew from a mandatory class like English this year..who cares..you cant graduate and still play..you can stay back..not graduate and play..Thems the rules as they say!I hope he does as well as Kyle Taylor of JJEF, arguably 2 of the best players who missed the year due to injury??
iona,
the mount beat hayes 25 years in a row until last year and i always felt the mount had an edge.i saw a BB game at hayes 2 years ago and was impressed with their students.i want the mount to win but you have to love hayes.they do not even have a field on campus.
williams is doing well at RIC and will see playing time.if it works DIV 3 could be better than 2.
this year i was at a dinner with artie donavan,mount 1944,and balt.colts 1958 NFL champs.what a night. jump ball
Hey “iona” I guess you can root for IONA when you are a mount fan huh? You are such a front running clown. Go use your iona pom poms as pillows. You are a joke.
Just a fact:
Didn’t see the game, but is it possible New Ro made that play call because of a weakness they saw in the secondary either earlier in the game, or in fact in scouting sessions when they were watching MW? The MW defense had been giving up points this year. They let up 27 points in the section final to Warwick, and although that team supposedly has a good QB, that’s a lot of points in a section championship game. And I think those points came mostly in the passing attack?
So just reading the rules above in regards to football, there should be no one that can be 19 and still play UNLESS:
“Students may be eligible regardless of age or grade if they have been approved through the State Education Department’s Selection/Classification Program”
Personally, I do not think under ANY circumstance should a 19 year old get to play. For one, there are 15 year olds playing. Also, there are parents out there that already leave their kids back a year just for sports. I do not have a problem with that, but there does need to be a line in the sand. I say 19 should be that line. If you get injured your senior year and you are 18, there are other options for you. I hate to deny someone their senior year, but if you started school late, or got left back during the way, then you forfeit your right to play that extra year if you are going to be 19.
Just my thoughts.
oldintheway,
Don’t get me wrong, I did say it was a good play call by the New Ro coaches. Any time a play goes for a TD it can be considered a GREAT play call.
Hopefully if MSG is still showing the game, try and watch the play. You will sympathize with the MW d-coordinator I think.
The reason I brought up the play was because a New Ro fan was stating how much better New Ro was than MW. Obviously the score by itself tells you this was a close game played by two very good(close) teams. This game could have went either way. New Ro was the better team. Hopefully that is clear. Just no need for the New Ro faithful to get carried away. MW was a very worthy opponent that deserves our respect. No need to take the win and say we were “far and away” the better team that is just an out of hand comment.
Back to the play. Objectively speaking, that TD was a GIFT. I am not going to bash the MW players (safeties), so I will call it a mental lapse on their part. Again, when a tight end runs straight down the field, pass two safeties that are sitting in cover 2, that to me is a GIFT. I bet the MW d-coordinator agrees with me as well. lol!
I can’t speak to the overall play of the MW secondary for the year, but by all reports the QB from Warwick is very talented so I do not know if it is a fair assessment to judge the MW secondary based on that game.
oldnintheway you are correct. it’s a flaw in the monroe defense. they bring their free safety (#24 the last two years, #1 the year b4 that) down into the box to stop the run, and that guy is usually unaccounted for by the front 6 and that’s why that player has been the defensive MVP the last three years. But, that leaves you open for the TE down the middle, which is what happened on that play. The guy picking his nose all game was the CB #34. watch the replay of the game, that kid did nothing all game. Why New Ro never took advantage of him I’ll never know. The reason why New Ro didn’t call for the TE down the middle every play is because Monroe does a good job of switching up coverage, and New Ro probably anticipated that coverage in the situation and they were right and hit it for 6 pts. As far as the “drops” you guys are talking about, you must have some neat kinda of TV that only shows the Monroe drops. New Ro had a bunch of drops that that were easy catches that would have put the game away. McGhee dropped a pass early that would have been 6 (although they scored on the drive, see the catch by #11 that we’re talking about). Also, #28 was wide open behind the monroe secondary on the New Ro sidelines and dropped the pass that would have been a sure 6. Also, the ball that fell out of Edney’s hand was clearly a “muff” and should have been an incomplete pass. #9 also dropped a seam route around the 20 yard line going in that he might have scored on as well. It goes both ways with the “dropsies” argument.
Just a Fact, you sound like a frustrated never was coach with all your cover 2 this, cover 2 that talk. the safeties were fooled by the run, or if your right, and it was “cover 2”, that means the the safeties had the deep 1/2 of the field each (hence the name cover 2 – as in 2 deep safeties), and they were probably moving outside to cover the deep sideline routes. anyone who has ever watched ESPN can tell you that in “cover 2”, it’s the ILB’s responsibility to cover the TE down the middle of the field, so it wouldn’t be the two safeties fault, it would be the ILB fault, and #11 is way too good of an athlete to be covered by Monroe’s ILB’s, hence New Ro executed better, not a “lapse” on the defenses fault. great play call designed to create a mis-match which worked.
Congrats to New Rochelle! Who’s next??
bill belichic = dino garr=should have punted
Peyton may be a legend but not for tonight…
Bill Belicheck is a moron! He gave them the game!
Bad info,
First off, I brought up the Tight end TD just for point that one of the New Ro fans said New Ro was “far and away” the better team. The MW dropped passes were brought up for the same reason. Everyone with any common sense knows these two teams were equally matched, but maybe you don’t????lol!!!!!
Now to your gibberish.
When I first read your post I thought you might be one of the New Ro coaches, but that’s impossible because your comments are really laughable at best. On the SPECIFIC TD play to the TE, the free safety is standing right next to the strong safety. Go back and watch the tape, and again you will see. Both safeties looking in the backfield, playing run first, when they have deep halves AND ARE SUPPOSED TO PLAY PASS FIRST. You conveniently left that little nugget out.
Now to your point about MLB having the TE when he runs straight down the field. This was the only ACCURATE thing you said. Because anyone that has played the/in a 4-3 knows this to be true. Until we realize no WR’s had ran down field, so there was only one guy in the safeties coverage zone. It was just the TIGHT END, and again ran right by the safeties. WHY? Because the safeties were picking their noses, looking in the backfield.
Seriously did you even watch this play or are you just talking out your a$$???????
I saw this play once on TV, you probably have the film, and who has the BAD INFO???????????????
If you had any ba$$$ you would post under your regular blog name, but we won’t see it. GUARANTEED!!!!!!!!!!
“never was coach” almost sounds like a compliment. I will take it. Thanks!!!!!!!
Just a Fact I post occasionally, pretty much only when some idiot out there posts bad info, and that’s right, your the one posting bad info. I did watch the play on MSG. You can clearly see ONE safety, #24 in the middle of the field. He CLEARLY bites on the run fake. Runs into the line of scrimmage, then realizes his mistake and tries to get back to cover the TE BECAUSE HE IS THE ONLY SAFETY in the middle of the filed. AND, did you not see a RB running down the sideline, and a WR opposite the TE running up the field? Dude, give it a rest. You’re wrong. It was a great play call and like 10801 said, the Safety was fooled by the play action, not standing there picking his nose as you said. The real question is, with #24 coming up so much to stop the run all game (he was the def. MVP) why didn’t NewRo call the play more often?
Jim,
When you actually post football related information, you write great stuff.
Dion Lewis was awesome against Notre Dame. I enjoyed watching him play. It must’ve been a treat watching him in HS.
You make a very good point about people/bloggers/fans second guessing/criticizing Coach Garr. When someone has won multiple state titles (I don’t care what class) they should be given a certain amount of leeway in their decisions. Jumping on a state title-winning coach over going for it on 4th down is a little over the top for me. Belicheck did it last night and he’s probably the best in the NFL. Some of the same griping about coaching seems to be happening after Iona’s loss on the Iona thread. They went 12-0 last year – their coaches deserve more than a little slack as well.
Bad Info,
10801, clearly stated, HE DID NOT WATCH THE GAME. Your trying to back up your comments with someone who did not watch the game. But I am the one with bad info?
One question for you what game were you watching? We were talking about one specific play so it really does not matter what #24 did on all the OTHER plays. On the TD play to the TE , there are two safeties in the middle of the field. Neither player barely moved at the fake hand off, that is how we know they were both in two deep. The only problem, THEY WERE WATCHING THE BACKFIELD, as the tight end runs right by them. Let’s say your right for a second and one safety had deep and the other was on his way to run up for run support, that’s not STILL a blown assignment by the safety with deep coverage? Go ahead and call it a GREAT call, but I bet the MW D-Coordinator is calling it a GIFT.
You want to give New Ro coaches credit for a GREAT play call, it was the play where you incorrectly said Jonny Maghee DROPPED the ball on that same drive. That play Jonnny ran a sort of stop and go and clearly burned the corner back, who had single coverage on him. That to me was a GREAT play call, it just did not work due to a poor pass. And by the way Jonny did not drop the ball, the replay clearly shows the defender knocking the ball out of Jonny’s hands as Jonny is trying to bring the ball into his body. Don’t believe me, MSG is showing the game today. Again, who is the one with Bad Info?
I talk about what I see and know. If I am wrong, I would be the first to admit to it. You on the other hand, are just throwing things out there and seeing if it sticks.
Nice try. BUT TRY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, I am glad New Ro won. Nothing else really matters. But New Ro fans need to lead by example. You can’t win and start saying “We are far and away the better team”. Win with CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Monroe was a well deserving opponent that fell short to the BETTER team Saturday night. Period!!!!!!!
Can someone answer my question about New Rochelle. Is Johnny McGhee New Ro’s back up QB or does he not play the position at all?
Jax,
Jonny isn’t not the second- or third-string quarterback. He hasn’t taken a snap at QB all year. If something happened to Edney during the game this Saturday, Khaliq Butts would go into the game at QB.
Just a fact,
I think new ro fans should be allowed to gloat a little. How many times before have you heard new ro fans gloat on this blog. I read ridiculous posts every week from rye fans (who actually do deserve to gloat), harrison fans (who dont) iona fans, and even pleasantville fans. Throughout 4 year dominance of section one, rarely have new ro bloggers come on and said anything stupid unlike many successful teams fans.
10801,
Great Point about New Ro fans OVERALL, not gloating on these blogs. I have been reading for about two years now. You really never see it. I certainly understand some of you younger guys getting excited. I am older and appreciate the win over MW as well.
If you are going to error, error on the side of CLASS! Can NEVER go wrong!
Thius week will be the hardest coaching job for the New Ro staff, you don’t want to come out “flat” in the semi finals and possibly end the season like Roosevelt.
Focus, eyes on the prize.
good Luck New Ro
I have also been following this blog since it’s begining. All that time for the exception of some praise I have never seen any New Ro fans gloat, or put any team or coach down.
SCOTTINRYE: Your right, it will be tough to coach the NR team this week, but I have faith in Coach D and his Assistants in getting the kids focused for this game.
GO NEW RO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not looking to get in an internet “fight” or anything, but I just can’t let this go. Please watch the play in question again. There is CLEARLY just ONE safety, #24 in the middle of the field. #4 who was the other safety when Monroe had 2 safeties is on the line of scrimmage. Monroe has 3 secondary people “deep”, ONE safety and 2 corners. The ONE safety #24 runs inside when he sees run action in the backfield, then begins to drop back when he realizes it’s pass. That was not a “gift” TD at all, just a good play call taking advantage of an over aggressive safety. Just a Fact, after you watch the play again, if you still think there are two safeties and two corners, your obviously not being objective. You were wrong, you should just admit it and move on.
Bad Info,
Dude, do you have some blogger’s crush on me? I am starting to think you never cared about this play at all. Your first blog to me is attacking, and then you mention the play. Just so you know I am married, you are going to need to look elsewhere.
You want me to apologize? I apologize to everyone who has had to reread the same points I keep having to right in regards to your comments. There, you see I apologized.
For the blogging record (lol), I have watched the play several times thanks to DVR.
It is this simple. The corner to the boundary is lined up as safety to the boundary side. From the tape it looks like he is aligned with the Tight end. Does not change the fact the tight end ran right past him and #24 (who looks to be aligned with the offensive left tackle). So my main point from the beginning that the tight end ran right past two safeties(one is the boundary corner) still stands. To the field you have a split end, so corner to the field is already occupied. Wing back to the field motioned to the backfield so he is no threat. One of the two safeties(#24 or boundary corner) has the Tight end. Plain and simple.
Have the last word, the tape proves my point. It was blown coverage that leads to the TD. Again, you want to call it a GREAT play call, be my guest. I know how I would feel if I was the MW D-coordinator.
What I will say after watching the game again, what a great job done by New Ro’s offensive line. Dominated all night long. Also kudos to the coaches, the overall offensive game plan was excellent all night long too! No need to mention defense, you always know what you are going to get with New Ro!
I am off this topic and ready for THIS week!!!!!!
2:00??? Thanks Bad Info!!!!!!!!!!
Thank You Kevin. Go New Ro!
can we get a break down of stats from the monroe game?
NEW RO DEFENSE IS THE BEST THEY HAD IN 5YRS.
Where does there o-line rank as a unit over the last 5 years? They looked real good Saturday night.
