Game Balls: Nos. 6-4
-
- November
- 4
The next three Game Balls are here. The Player and Coach of the Week will be announced on tonight’s edition of Varsity Central Chat, which you can watch here at 7 p.m. Croton-Harmon seniors Joe Tralli and Bobby Dusconi will be our special guests.
6. Mike Tomasula, Blind Brook: Statistically, this is as impressive a game any running back/receiver/kick returner has had all season. Tomasula did a little bit of everything in Saturday’s wild 40-36 win over Pawling. He started teh day by catching touchdown passes in the first and second quarters as Blind Brook went into the half tied 14-14. In the third, Tomasula opened up the lead with a 7-yard touchdown run followed by a 65-yard punt return for a score. Then in the fourth, he played a key role in Blind Brook rallying in the final minute for the win. Tomasulo rushed for 265 yards as Blind Brook earned a spot in the developmental league final with Valhalla.
5. Tyrae Woodson-Samuels and Jeff Mack, Iona Prep: See what happens when these guys are on the field together? Finally healthy for the first time since Week 2, the dynamic combo carried the Gaels past Farrell, 35-0. Woodson-Samuels was 20 of 27 passing for 301 yards, and Mack carried the ball 18 times for 140 yards and four touchdowns. Iona doesn’t go into the CHSFL as the favorite this season. But it does go in as a team nobody wants to face.
4. Roosevelt’s offensive line: All year I’d heard about how terrific Roosevelt quarterback Donovan Walker and running back Dave Thomas were. And they are. But I was stunned by how well the Indians offensive line played in Saturday’s 32-7 win over Lakeland in the Class A semifinals. The group — Tyrone Jones, Korab Muriqi, Gorge Tigre, Raheem Uguhart and Kyle Williams — were solid throughout as Roosevelt ran for 172 yards and threw for 100 to earn a spot in the Class A championship game.
We know who Nos. 3-2-1 will be. But in what order? That’s up to you. I’ll have the results on tonight’s show.

Surprised that LJ Garrant from SH didnt get honorable mention for a game ball Kevin…you saw it with your 2 eyes, he was excellent running the ball, i think he had about 160+ yards, 2 touchdowns, but most important, played excellent defense in the 4th quarter picking off a pass against Pville wonderful WR that stands about 6’5…would like to heard ur thoughts on this
Kevin are serious, how doesn’t Sleepy Hollows O-line get a Ball, They had 450 yards of rushing behind them, and thats with 11 in the box! Roosevelt had 272 yards of offense behind them, I dont see how the #’s compare.
Also, I hope you use you infinite wisdom and pick the right player for the #1 game ball, and dont make it a popularity contest. 202 all purpose yards, is a nice game, but it doesn’t even come close to 300 yards rushing with 3 TD’s and those 3 Td’s came from runs of 85,60, and 25 yards.
I am going to have to agree with HV and Hollow fan and say that both LJ Garrant and the SH O-line were totally pickled on this one Kev.
SHHS had 450+ yards and no honorable mention for their oline.
LJ Garrant had 12 for 130+ and no honorable menion either.
I know this Bobby Smalls kid is good, but you gotta give props to the rest!
If you guys really want to know how dangerous Iona is going to be with those two healthy, consider this. Iona was up 42-21 on Holy Cross, before Holy Cross came back to win 49-42. It was a very close game that Iona dominated for 3 quarters. Holy Cross then lost St. Anthonys by two points, and beat St. Joseph by the sea. Iona will be dangerous.
Can’t believe you even considered a developmental league player. By all rights, this spot should go to a player on a team whose schedule is far more competitive.
LEMAR JOHNSON FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!
LEMAR JOHMSON FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!
Garrant also had a huge interception at the 4 yard line in 4th qtr covering Bramswig.
TWS and J-mack best combo in the county baby!!!!!!!!
Maybe the Sleepy coach should get a gameball for wearing a cape and smashing pumpkins?
But on a serious note the O-line and LJ Garrant both deserve credit for their performance.
I haven’t been following, what happened to North Rockland and Ramapo? Are they still playing?
LJ Garrant is a very good player.. congrats…to him an his family.
Woodson-Samuel and Mack what can say,
they are great together,
Batmand and Robin,
Ebony and Ivory.
Iona
a team nobody wants to face.
Devaney, Your such a fan.
Power House,
If you’ve yet to make an intelligent comment about Iona in all your attempts, why don’t you just give up? A healthy Iona team is dangerous – and Kevin is right, they are a tough opponent to game plan. WHy don’t you focus on whatever team you follow instead of insulting Kevin or making idiotic comments about a team you know little about.
Didnt LJ Garrant go to Iona
Power House
In case you missed it Iona Prep is the defending CHSFL AAA Champions.- Stick to section 1!
LJ went to Iona for One year.
iona power:
how did iona look last week?
coach darlos:
at this point your comments are worse then the crazy dragon from switz. where have you been all season?
What has the recruiting been looking like for mack and woodson-samuels? Or gary acquah for that matter?
Man, one can hardly find their way onto these blogs anymore…too much clutter…make some points and get on with your lives…Kevin, great angle with last week’s story re: ‘X-Factors’...good recognition of the players who really make an impact on the game of football…good playoffs for the most part, two unbeatens for Class AA final…didn’t see game, but have to believe no way Rye gives up 3 TDs in 3 min. without a missed call or two…pass interference is one of the hardest aspects of officiating…enjoy the games!
