Vote for Player of the Week

November
3

In honor of Election Day on Tuesday, I bring you this:

It’s obvious to me that we have a very clear-cut Top 3 for this week’s Game Balls. What order they should be in, and who should be the Player of the Week, is almost impossible to decide.

Should it be…

IMG_9843cr

Ryan McLaughlin of Albertus Magnus setting the Section 1 record for passing yards in a game with 409 and the Rockland County single-season mark? McLaughlin completed 16 of 24 passes with four touchdowns, an interception and a touchdown run. It was in a non-playoff game as the Falcons beat Lincoln Hall, 41-34.

Or should it be…

tjndc5-5ly3wqojpsy1mxs69bdy_layout

Bobby Small of Sleepy Hollow and his momentous 300-yard rushing effort in an upset of Pleasantville in the Class B semifinals? Small scored three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter as the Headless Horsemen rallied back.

Or should I give it to…

tjndc5-5rn598r09ap159qqo6zy_layout

Josh Graham, the magnificent running back from Poughkeepsie. Graham piled up 202 yards of total offense, rushing for two touchdowns and catching the winning score as time expired as Poughkeepsie devastated Rye, 25-20, in a Class A semifinal.

Or should I give it to one of their lineman? Nahhhh.

Since I’m having such a tough time, I’m putting it on you guys. Go to the right side of the page and cast your vote for one of the three. The results will play a heavy part in my decision. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors.

The voting will run from right now until midnight on Tuesday.

  1. LetsBeHonest

    Josh Graham from Poughkeepsie

  2. my vote

bobby small. he deserves some recognition

nice picture from last year btw

  3. jt

rye is playing jj east fishkill this weekend

Josh Grahm, he was electric on friday night

  4. Pville

Forget Smalls give it to SH head coach he threw one heavy pumpkin and wore a great costume.

    Inside joke from previous blog.

I go Small with my vote. He did it on the road, vs a higher sead, on possible one of the worst/muddy fields in Westchester. Clearly the field conditions were not ideal for Smalls. I guess if they played that on the turf of Valhalla we could have been looking at a 400+ game .

  5. Just a Fan

No offense to PK kid but he was clearly offsides on his Game winning TD. Watch it tonight on MSG to see how bad it was. Great play if we were in Canada but not so great in the states. ya ya it was great the Ref swallowed his whistle, I get it!

  6. jj

rye blew it! bottom line. from the coach to the secondary, they just blew it . They just ain’t that good!

  7. 2000's

Smalls he carried the team on his shoulder on a field very muddy.

  8. garnet10580

From one Rye fan’s perspective, it must be Josh Graham

  9. O M G CLASS C

    JOE TRALLI FROM CROTON HARMON

  10. anotherryefan

Josh Graham – he worked his butt off all game

  11. The way it should be

    Order – 1) Graham, 2) Small 3) McLaughlin

Graham had a huge effort in a huge game, finally beating the cry babies from Rye. That catch may go down as the great single play of the decade. He has to get it.

While Small had a huge game, it can’t be better than what Graham did, simply because they beat Pleasantville and not Rye.

McLaughlin threw for 400 plus yards against Lincoln Hall. Stevie Wonder could have done that.

  12. Sportsed

Somers – Matt Deiana against Nyack

  13. rocket

    Easily….PK’s Josh Graham.

  14. Pville Fan

I would say Smalls he simply took Sleepy to Mahopac and sent the panthers home basically by himself.

  15. Go Rye!

Players – Josh Graham & his QB
Why – The most impressive thing about Graham and his QB had to be the way neither of them ever gave up. Graham kept running his paterns and the QB kept putting it out there for him. Many throws were too far or off the mark. But these two guys were in sink just enough to make it work and shock all of us at the game. Good luck this weekent to PK. To the Garnets, you were a class act all year. Make it happen in 2010.

  16. BB SPORTS

What about Mike Tomasula from Blind Brook in a league playoff game rushing for 265 yards and 4 touchdowns??? I know its class C but come on thats a great effort.

  17. Riverindian

I say give it to Small. He had the better stats in just as an important of a game.

  18. Goldberg

the poughkeepsie kid deserves all the credit in the world – and the coach from RYE should check his ego and realize he took a championship away from his kids – no way poughkeepsie scores from 70 yards away with 27 seconds to go! Awful!!!!!

  19. Rye

Yeah why not just kick it out of bounds and give it to Poughkeepsie at their own 25-30 at best. That may go down as the worst coaching move in Section 1 history. Did Garr explain why he did that or did he just feel like losing this year.

  20. slacrosse

Josh Graham. Blogger above is correct in that POK could have scored more had the QB not overthrown receivers a few times.

  21. The Donald

Bobby Small,, rushing for 300 yrds in any game puts you in a whole different class. Rushing for 300 yrds on a muddy field in a semi final playoff game with eight in the box puts you to the top of the list. I don’t care if your playing Rye or Pville. They loaded the box people… thats the differece between 202 all purpose yrds and 300 rushing yrds.. They loaded the freaking box!

  22. 2000's

Small didn’t just put up good stats he broke a few long run’s that had two guy’s on him and he fought them off with stiff arms and moving his legs. The way he ran and fought off defenders was unbelievable but you had to be there to see it.

  23. LetsBeHonest

Down 1, 8 seconds left, 49 yards to go for a TD. One play; huge change. Josh Graham clearly deserves this one as he never gave up on his team even when they were down three scores.

  24. Just a fact

    Where is Franco Cuts???????

Sal Sulla should get player of the week. A lot of people were doubting North Rock(not me) over Arlington, he had been dubbed overrated by some, even while he played with injury.

He did it for the Red Raiders on both sides of the ball this past weekend. And came up big when his team needed him the most by breaking off a 65 yard run with about 4 minutes remaining in a tied game of the semifinals for the section championships.

I guess my question is did Josh Graham do it on both sides of the ball? If the answer is yes, with the dramtic way POK won, I certainly would understand him winning. I still vote for Sulla.

When you are in North Rock backfield you occupy space once held by legends and I would assume the pressure to perform is something most do not understand.

Congrats to Sulla and the Red Raiders.

  25. Jeff P.

    Two words: Josh Graham

  26. Football Man

McLuaghlin made history…give it to him

  27. Spiral

I would say Graham…but I’m a Rockland man so I have to support one of our own. I say McLaughlin the boy can throw a football about a mile and he has the potential to be a very good college qb.

  28. hollow fan

IMHO Bobby Smalls deserves the player of the week, I feel that bobby had an amazing day, better then any other rusher in section 1 this year. And he starts on D, Kickoff Return, and punt return. All of the others are deserving of player of the week, just not this week.
By the way kev, I think sleepy’s O-line deserves a game ball this week too.

  29. The Truth

Not too hard to figure this one out:

McLaughlan played Lincoln Hall in a non-playoff game? enough said. Great season stats however!

Both Smalls and Graham had special games. Both were instrumental in pushing their teams to achieve “Minor Upsets” .....Why shouldn’t Pookie and Sleepy have not won ??

So comapare apples to apple. Small had 300 running yards(how many all-purpose) to Graham’s 202 all purpose yards.

Small had 3 touchdowns, Graham had 3 touchdowns. Both scored the go-ahead touchdowns.

I go with Smalls for having over 100 more yards of offensive production in one game. Everything else is a wash?

    .

  30. BILLY

    DOnald,
Was at the sh/vs pvill game, Pvile didn’t have 8 in the box…. they had 10 or 11.

    1. SH OFFENSIVE LINE
    2. Smalls
    3. Graham

  31. T Brown

In terms of personal achievement in a game, each of these athletes clearly proved they aim to play at the highest levels. To be able to set a standard for the section, however, is no small feat and should be recognized. McLaughlin deserves the nod.

  32. a random girl

    two words: pick ryan mclaughlin

  33. Former Falcon's Son

    MCLAUGHLIN

  34. Former Player

As a former running back, I know that “some” of your success has to be shared with your lineman (and/or lack of lineman/linebackers on the opposing defense). I QB’s success is made almost entirely solo. Even a wide open receiver can’t score without a great pass. Give it to McLaughlin .. he set records and has been doing the job all year – not just one game.

  35. Rockland

mclaughlin should get it, he broke two records in one game, if that doesn’t earn player of the week then i don’t know what does

  36. HV Resident

I was at the SH / Pville game, and Kevin was there as well, and he will tell you that Pville always had 10 men in the box, because SH only lined up with 1 WR…here is why B. Smalls should win…

    SH on the road: CHECK
    SH lower seed: CHECK
Field conditions were horrible(and im being nice with this one): CHECK
    Do or Die game: CHECK
300 yard rushing against 10 men in box: DOUBLE CHECK

Not sure what else you want from a player for him to gather MVP honors, but i will take this every week.

Should be interesting to see what the SH running back can and will do on turf up in Mahopac

  37. 10960

1.Josh Graham – It was done against Rye.
2.Bobby Small – Done against PVille.
3.Ryan McLaughlin – It was Lincoln Hall.

In a quick Nut Shell, this is how I see it.

  38. 10960

By the Way, For Yards after the catch, Josh Graham made his QB look that much better. Kudos to the QB for making a good decision in throwing in Grahams direction.

  39. Monica JK

My vote isn’t working but i vote for RYAN MCLAUGHLIN!!!

  40. 2000's

Small had 300 Rushing Yards/returned kicks, played on Def. all this on a terrible field with the box loaded to stop him!

    Graham 202 Purpose yards
McLaughlin- Great passing day but non playoff vs Lincoln Hall like someone said Stevie Wonder might of been able to do this.
No disrespect to any of these players but the odds were against Small Pleasantville’s plan was stop him and they win and he ran all over them on terrible conditions!

  41. WingTGuy

After watching Graham on Friday and then again last night, he has to get the number 1 game ball.

He played an all around game and was in quite a bit on defense. He also had some great blocks to spring receivers on screens.

I did not see the other two games and both sets of numbers are impressive, but after watching the replay last night, you have to go with Graham.

  42. NyackFan

    Graham. Speed kills.

  43. The Donald

Not hard to figure how this one breaks downs. All the Rye and class A bloggers pick the POK kid. All the Pville, Hollow and class B bloggers pick the hollow kid. All the rockland bloggers pick the Rockland kid. Kevin, suck it up and make a decision. LOL

  44. ham and cheese

Graham gets it hands down.. it was against Rye…and in a last second pressure situation

Smalls outstanding game but it was not against Rye

McLaughlin great athlete but Albertus Magnus Vs Lincoln Hall enough said

  45. Karen

    McLaughlin!

  46. Starter

Smalls played all year without great blocking, on sloppy fields, his #s suffering and he is never anything other than about the team. The blocks came this week and he showed what he can do when he gets into the opponents secondary. His great effort when Sleepy needed it most deserves player of week.

  47. Pete

McLaughlin – Great stats but it was during a non-plaoff game

Graham – Great performance. key stats: 202 ALL PURPOSE + vs. #1 seed

Smalls – Great perromance. key stats: 300+ All purpose + vs. #1 seed

As a neutral fan, based solely on stats, the ball goes to Smalls. Both he and Graham were in identical situations (semi-finals, team losing by 1, 4th quarter) and both had same results (each scored game winning td). Only difference was the 100+ yards for Smalls.

    OR….. Let them share it!
    CO-GAME BALLS!

    GREAT PERFORMANCE BY ALL THREE!

  48. Barbara McConnell

Ryan McLaughlin gets my vote. In addition to his accomplishments on the field, he has been a true leader off the field as well.

  49. BW10980

All three atheletes enjoyed amazing performances. Field conditions were just as bad everywhere that day. My vote goes to Ryan McLaughlin because of the season he had AND the fact he played both ways in this game. There isn’t a team in Section One who wouldn’t enjoy having him as their QB.

  50. Hollow Fan

Have them both on Your live TV show, talking up the great games to come this weekend. Also I hope that the O-line for Sleepy gets some love with a game ball.
    IMHO

  51. Robert Napolitano

Ryan McLaughlin gets my vote, showing outstanding performance on the field.

  52. Steve Finnerty

Great game Ryan. You have my vote

  53. marilyn hemingway

    mclaughlin ryan

  54. Dr E

I didn’t see McLaughlin but it definitely seems like he is deserving. However in my opinion the athlete of the week should come from one of the playoff games. I saw Graham on TV last night (couldn’t watch Burnett implode anymore) and unfortunately I saw Small live on Saturday, I don’t think there is a wrong choice

  55. outsider

joe trailli are u kidding me he had 2 catches one he pushed off on the other fell into his hands other than that fanning shut him down.

  56. blue collar

    Pok’s Josh Graham.

he was unreal against Rye. 202 all purpose yards against a tough team, at home and in the playoffs.

  57. Go eagles

Without a doubt, Graham is the man.

  58. Gmen

Rye Fans – Please, let it be. WE LOST. Life goes on. It’s ONLY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
That being said, the reason we lost was Josh Graham. Incredible effort. He get’s my vote. Rye kid had a chance to make the tackle but Graham faked him out of his jockstrap. Great player.

  59. stick a chenango fork in them...

PK’s Josh Graham gets my vote! Yards per touch, he was unreal! He put his team on his back in the second half. He blocked, ran, caught balls, played D, and even handed out gatorade.

  60. football giant

Big Mac should win!!! Why? Because he has females voting for him.

  61. Rileygirl

Graham deserves the vote. He had the biggest impact, on the biggest stage against the best comp.
Ike Nduka from WP is having a very good year at UB. He probably wouldnt be sniffing the field had James Starks been playing however, hes made the most of it.
T Gill is a man who BETTER be coaching at a bigtime school next year

  62. PKallday

Josh Graham Baby…..Who can do it better?................

  63. PKallday

    roosevelt dont know wats comming

  64. Ryemom

Josh Graham..that kid gave us a run for our money…lets give to Roosevelt guys!!!

  65. YOUNGCASH

Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham Josh Graham…........Josh Graham

  66. Rye all day

Josh Graham….amazing thats all i can say

  67. ChiefWildEagle

As much as it kills me to say this, player of the week:Bobby Smalls.
PS, O lines don,t get game balls, backs do.
O lines don’t need game balls, O linemen know when they did a great job, their backs pile up 400+ yards of total O.

  68. Just a fact

    Riley,

Sulla, did it in the same exact type of game, on both sides of the ball, just as good if not better team in Arlington, and his big play was ALMOST as dramatic, except it was with 4 minutes left in the game, not 4 seconds, or whatever time was remaining.

I knew Josh was going to get it, and hard to argue against him. Just shocked, at Sulla being #8 and not even in this conversation, but does not really matter. North Rock won and that is what counts. Plus Sulla got the Diesel, #76, blocking for him plus the rest of North Rock’s very good o-line.

  69. Sec1Football

HARRISON HUSKIES WILL WIN SECTION NEXT YEAR…..with all the juniors this year and harrison on pace for a 7-2 season who will be able to stop them??

  70. Sec 1 Fan

    My Opinion.

Bobby Smalls…...how can anyone choose otherwise??

Forget the non-playoff game? This is player of the “week” for crying out loud!!! The great performances need to have some consequence! not just padding stats?

Smalls had bettr stats than Graham. Both outstanding individual performances, but Smalls out did Graham in any objective head-to-head comparison..

That is just the way it is with no spin!

  71. LetsBeHonest

Sec1Football, how can you be so sure of that? It doesn’t matter if you are a freshmen, sophomore, junior right now and starting and returning next year. Yeah you have starters returning but that wont get you the section title next year. Being down in the weight room everyday for the next few months will.

  72. Power House

    Obviously Josh Graham!!!

Sal Sulla should be top 5 but of course Devaney wont accept being wrong.

  73. HS Fan

    Sec1Football
With the way Eastchester has played its last two games Harrison will have a great battle on its hands to get to 7-2. Lets see the outcome of this game first before giving the Huskies a win Saturday and a Section title.

  74. The Donald

    Chief,

Shouldn’t kill you to pick Bobby. He’s a great kid who works hard. Beer’s on me at Izzy’s.

  75. Rileygirl

Sulla wasnt up for the award. I still woulda given the award to Graham.. Nothing against Mcglaughlin but his award is like Umass beating Pace when on the same day Cuse beats ND. Big difference in comp

  76. Hollow fan

    Cheify
There you go again hating on Sleepy any way you can. and it goes to show you that with all of your football wisdom, Roosevelts O-line got a game ball.

  77. Spectator

McLaughlin. section 1 records should be worth the 1 spot. Many teams faced bad defense, they didnt break 2 records tho.

  78. 10960

Section 1 records should not be grounds for a number 1 spot. There are many players if given the chance could have abused the current records.

Ray Rice probably could have rushed for a thousand yards against a school like Saunders trade tech. But he didn’t!! You get it?

It’s always the lower tier schools that usually look to break records, such as Greg Shuster of Clarkstown North a couple years back rushing for 7 touchdowns in a game against (either south or suffern)Not a very competitive opponent.

Section 1 maybe a competitive section but it’s also a gentlemens section. When records are set, its usually by accident, if there was a reward for breaking records in section 1 Ryan McLaughlins 409 probably wouldn’t make the top 10 list.

  79. fan

Ray Rice did play saunders numerous times and the games were very competitive back then. Saunders even scored 22 pts against that sick d back in 2003. Saunders back then was a whole different team!
So easy with the saunders talk.

  80. T Brown

10960, McLaughlin passed for 1900+ yards during the season. When Albertus went up against Hastings, Dobbs, Rye Neck and Bronxville the kid put up decent numbers in each of those games. Every athlete during their playing career will always have that one “best” game; but this kid did work at it all throughout the year.

  81. Power House

    Fan,

Your a moron for disputing what 10960 wrote. Saunders had a Winless season in 2004 and New Rochelle beat Saunders 42-0. In fact the score was 28-0 before the half. So much for competitiveness. The starters were out by the second Quarter.

Your a pure moron, Saunders record is 5-42 in the past 6 years! Back in the day when you say they were competitive (Ray Rice Days)

    Saunders went 0-16!!!

  82. BOTTOM LINE

Tough call Kevin… but here is the bottom line.

Two kids propelled their teams into the section finals at Mahopac.

One did it with a dominating ground game, albeit most of the 300 yards were gained on just a few “big plays”. The other one did it with a great all-around performance, including a CLUTCH buzzer beating 47 yd. TD Reception (most of it being YAC).

Certainly, both performances are most “memorable”. That being said…

RECORDS ARE bench marks, mile stones, high standards that stand to be recognized and RECORDED in a concrete manner, until OFFICIALLY beaten. Something has to be said for not only ONE, but TWO of these feats being accomplished during the span of one 48 minute game.

QUESTION 1: If Sleepy and Poughkeepsie happen to lose at Mahopac, which of these three performances will really have a lasting impact? Really?

Do we really remember anything about the runner-up team of any playoff tournament, at any level? Do we spend time and energy taking notes on a team that winds up in second place? I believe this nullifies the “playoff” aura and argument side of this debate.

RECORDS are RECORDS. They usually last longer than memories… otherwise we wouldn’t call them “records”.

McLaughlin edges out Graham on this one. This may just be a question of skill vs. talent.

QUESTION 2: What is more difficult? To orchestrate an entire offense, checking down receivers, moving the chains, etc. in a competitive, high-scoring game? Or using 4.3 / 40 speed to outrun inferior athletes (and capitalize on one of the worst coaching mistakes in Section 1 history… yeah that awful four letter word… P.U.N.T.) ? Sorry Rye Guys.

409 Yards (REPEAT – OVER 400 YDS) in the air including 4 TD’s and another TD on the ground. My vote goes to Ryan McLaughlin of Albertus Magnus.

  83. Wimp Out

Kevin, you wimped. Totally transparent when you handed out player of the week. ‘The Donald’ was on to something….big school v. medium school v. small school. Did the bloggers get it right? Is that what you would have decided if you didn’t decide to wimp out this last week?

  84. garnet10580

    Bottom Line: Inferior athletes?

Here’s one for everyone’s consideration. Just for discussion purposes, let’s say the last five plays of the Rye/Poughkeepsie game are exactly the same except that Rye punts on 4th down instead of running a play.

With nothing else being altered the outcome would have been exactly the same on the final play – a Poughkeepsie TD. If Rye couldn’t catch Graham on a 49-yard YAC TD, they sure wouldn’t have caught him in the last 30 yards of a 79-yard YAC TD.

Not to say that by punting Rye wouldn’t have increased their probability of not yielding the final TD, but

    . . . . . food for thought.

  85. BOTTOM LINE

    garnet10580,

Sounds like we’re arguing the same point… Graham was a ‘superior’ athlete on that field of play… compared to the “inferior athletes”. Anyone else running under 4.4 / 40 from Rye?

I was simply using that point as an example to support the idea that pure ‘talent’ is not as impressive as the ‘skill’ and craft that is required as a passing Quarterback, especially one who achieves 400 yds. “FOUR HUNDRED” for a HS quarterback. It doesn’t matter who the opponent is. You still have to complete the passes. You still need to move the chains and keep drives alive. Mind you, this was a Lincoln Hall team who was athletic enough to score two TD’s on Bronxville. Do not take credit away from them.

Now, are you defending Coach Garr’s decision not to punt with 27 seconds left in the game???

Allow me to remind you that the TD play was on 4th DOWN.

All Rye needed was one more incomplete pass. And Rye would be playing Roosevelt at Mahopac.

After a punt, how much time would be left on the clock? Even if the punt were to go out of bounds???

On the 4th down TD play, there were only 8 ticks remaining. After a punt, there would have been even less time and a longer distance to go. The clock would be more in Rye’s favor.

There is no question; this was one of the worst coaching calls. Add the consequence of the mistake and what you have is the fact that it cost a group of hard working teenagers who miss out on another opportunity at a title… all because of one coaching error.

Yeah, they might have broken a longer TD… but more than likely… one sack… or any other tackle for that matter, would have caused the clock to expire.

PK had ZERO time outs. Like I said, sorry Rye Guys! It’ll be a long, hard off season. Sorry. There’s nothing left to say.

  86. Just a fact

    Bottom Line,

your comments above are the “spinning line”. I never saw someone twist the facts so badly to try and have their kid get picked for “Player of the Week”.

Let me preface my argument in saying I am not biased towards Josh, since I picked Sal Sulla for player of the week.

Anyway, using your logic let’s take it one step further. Look at the level of talent Josh Graham did it against. Rye would destroy Lincoln Hall. Eck would throw for 600 yards in that game, if Dino kept the pedal to the medal. You conveniently left off caliber of opponent. To be as detailed as you were in your post and to leave that SIGNIFICANT FACT out, shows the twist and turns of your logic.

The other thing I find funny is how “memorable” you find one kids play, but not the other. Seriously, besides a die hard Albertus fan, who is going to remember McLaughlin throwing for 400 yards. Don’t get me wrong, 400 yards is a great feat, but it was against LINCOLN HALL. Here is a question for you? When did LINCOLN HALL become a POWER HOUSE football program? I must have missed the bulletin. I heard they are good at b-ball, but that is about it. At this point I think I could have thrown for 400 yards as well against their D.

A lot of people who are not associated with Rye or POK, were at the game (just read some of the blogs) and Josh’s overall play that night will be remembered for a long time to come. So your thoughts of someone forgetting what Josh did if POK does not win the title, again are just you spinning the story to have it lean your way.

Here is a football lesson from football 101. Football is not track and field where pure athleticism shines. Good Football Players are made up of a lot of tangibles like size, speed, strength and some intangibles like heart and game experience. Throw technique in there as well. So basing an argument purely on athleticism gets thrown out the door in any football discussion. Rye has very good FOOTBALL PLAYERS and POK as well. Both are very good teams that should not be put in the same discussion as Magnus, and especially LINCOLN HALL when discussing football.

Here are two more points. One you are playing the QB card as well. You are basically saying the QB position is the toughest position on the field with the most responsibilities, therefore a QB deserves player of the week over any other position. You have some good points about the technicality of the QB position, but again how tough is it to throw passes against Lincoln Hall????????

Second, the way you write it, you make it sound like Josh Graham showed up to the field, ran a couple of fly patters with his 4.4 speed and the ball magically stuck to his hands. Instead of giving the reality of it, which is the kid ran precise routes that he has been practicing for probably close to three years now in practice and in other games, preparing himself for possibly getting a chance like this moment to prove himself. Most times games end a certain way where a kid does not get the chance. But Dino did not punt and the chance did come. And with a couple thousand watching at the game and at home on the computer, the kid made the play of a life time for his team. Did you ever think how much pressure one would be under to have the weight of your dreams and all your teams dreams as well, literally rest in your hands as the ball is up in the air?
I personal do not know the feeling. But I know enough football and respect EACH position enough to know that the catch was not as easy as you would want us to believe. Bottom line, in one of the biggest football moments of his life time, Josh Graham came through in the clutch against the best Class A team this year. He came through just not for himself, but for his TEAM as well. ( Congrats Josh, couldn’t just sit here while someone tried to minimize your accomplishments).

But I bet you know all this. Again you just felt the need to spin the story so your kid would get picked. I figured I would take the time to unwind your spin and maybe set you straight. But you sound like a die hard, so there will be no changing your mind.

  87. WOW

JUST A FACT YOU ARE TRULY SOMETHING ELSE ! NO OTHER QB IN THE SECTION CAN THROW A BALL LIKE MCLAUGHLIN,REGARDLESS OF CLASS/OPPONENT. HE GOT 409 YARDS IN A GAME. NAME ONE QB THAT CAN DO THAT. NOW ASK YOUR SELF IF HE HAS DONE IT. HE HASNT BECUASE HES NOT MCLAUGHLIN. JOSH GRAHAM – GOOD GAME BUT NOT AS GOOD AS MCLAUGHLIN. WASNT A PLAYOFF GAME. SO WHAT IT WAS A GAME WASNT IT!! AT THE END THEYR ALL GAMES. MCLAUGHLN SHOULD GET THIS. KEVIN DEVANEY DOESNT WANT TO GIVE IT TO HIM BECAUSE HE JUST HATES ALBERTUS IN GENERAL, I MEAN EVEN IN THE PRESEASON, AFTER BEATING HASTINGS IN 4OT LAST YEAR IN 08 HE GIVES HASTINGS A HIGHER RANK!? LIKE COMEON, JUST ADMIT YOU GUYS DONT LIKE ALBERTUS !!

  88. please stop

Why not put the debate to rest? The player of the week was announced; it’s done. Everyone will have an opinion and it was obvious just based on the number of votes and entries that this particular week did pit three very strong athletes for the top honor. But Devaney chose not to make the tough decision on his own. All three have a game this weekend and hopefully each will continue to contribute to their teams, win or lose.

  89. Just a fact

    Wow,

    thanks for the compliment.

I see you could not argue any of points above. I think McLaughlin is a great class C/D QB (based on his stats, have not seen him play), he just did not deserve the award. I think you are missing a lot of poeple’s point above. The fact the game was not a playoff game, does not matter much to me. But 409 yards against a worthy opponent is one thing, against Lincoln Hall, is totally another.

    Congrats to Josh!

  90. Power House

    Just A fact,

Good point, you can throw for over 400 yards against a pee-wee football team does that make you special? No!

Sure my example may be dramatic but it gets the point across that great performances against not so great opponents shouldn’t get the highest praise.

If Connor Eck threw for over 400 yards over lets say, Nyack…... That would make front page. If Ray Nichols threw for over 400 against Ossining that would be crazy….. If Lewis Edney throws for over 400 against North Rockland this weekend, that will be grounds for the masses to know.

But McLaughlin throwing for over 400 over Lincoln Hall? Im surprised there was anyone keeping track!!!

I’ve asked myself if some of you actually read what you print before submitting it. How many of you know these players personally? And to say the kinds of comments after such impressive accomplishments is rather shameful of you. Let the arguing continue amoung those of you who never played this great game. I know one player in particular and he continues to smile today, proud of his team mates and his high school football career. Player of the week is just what it is. One week. This game is so much more than a lot of noise from those of you who don’t really know these fine atheletes. Congratulations to all three nominees, each a winner in their own right.
