Weekend playoff recap
-
- November
- 2
I spent my day off on Sunday by, well, trying to take the day off. Sometimes it doesn’t always work like that. But knowing what’s ahead this week, I did my best to relax.
Unfortunately, the Giants, Jets and my fantasy teams didn’t allow for too much of it. So I decided to sit down last night during the World Series and pound out my weekend recap, which I finished this morning.
(Don’t worry, I’ll be posting a ‘Non-playoff games’ recap later in the day)
Class AA
New Rochelle 24, White Plains 7: Perhaps I overstated the “switch” New Rochelle flicks in the postseason. After pounding Mount Vernon last week, the lights flickered for the Huguenots as a very talented White Plains defense gave them fits in this semifinal.
Jake Thomases had the story in today’s Journal News, which you can read here.
Behind two defensive touchdowns, New Rochelle was able to grind out a victory and get back to the Class AA final for the seventh time this decade. It has won the previous six, including the last three, and seems poised to extend those numbers. But, with this offensive inconsistency, it’s not going to be easy.
White Plains just couldn’t get anything going offensively, either, against the best defense in Section 1. The Tigers’ only score came after an interception return to the New Ro 5. Don’t expect North Rockland to have many more opportunities, either.
North Rockland 20, Arlington 14: The Admirals were in an unfamiliar position on Saturday: on the wrong side of a thrilling finish.
The Red Raiders got a 65-yard touchdown with under four minutes left from Sal Sulla to snap a 14-14 tie. Sulla ran for two touchdowns in the game, and Terrell Smith ran for the other.
This game proves just how good North Rockland is defensively. It completely shut down John Jay-EF in the second half last week after holding down White Plains the previous game.
North Rockland fell behind 9-0 early and was down two at the half before taking the lead early in the third. Sulla’s touchdown that broke the tie late was followed by a forced fumble and a defensive stand by the Red Raiders, who are also making their seventh Section 1 Class AA final appearance this decade.
More on the New Rochelle-North Rockland game this week. But I can promise you that, with these two defenses, it will be a far better game anyone might think.
Class A
Roosevelt 32, Lakeland 7: The game was a closer than the score indicates as the Hornets threatened twice in the third quarter, trailing by 12.
But, continuing the most indescribeable phenomenon of the 2009 season: A Roosevelt team with the thinnest of rosters managed to play its best again in the fourth quarter.
You can’t help but marvel at this group. They start 10 players on both sides of the ball, put the football in the hands of only two players for the most part, and are in the most grueling, competitive conference on a week to week basis. Yet they’re one win away from the most improbably of championships.
Saturday was the first time I got to see Roosevelt this season. Donovan Walker throws the ball with authority and really makes good decisions in the pocket. Dave Thomas has unteachable instincts and can manuever in small spaces better than any back I’ve seen this year. His legs don’t stop and he does an incredible job of using contact as a way to gain more yards. He drives his legs through defenders (the way Emmitt Smith once did) and gets yards few other backs can.
The first thing people asked me on Saturday was whether Roosevelt would beat Poughkeepsie. Again, I don’t want to get too much into the finals just yet. The short answer is that it will be a great game.
Lakeland, meanwhile, was better than I thought it would be. The reason the Hornets were able to get this far was evident: they liked to hit (Phil Grimaldi at middle lineback was superb and took on Walker and Thomas all day), they were a very good tackling team and they had three special offensive players in Mike Fraioli, Conor Prunty and Chris Fazio. Overall, a very solid football team.
Class B
Nanuet 21, Kennedy 7: Not too much of a surprise here. Nanuet won the game by a healthy margin against a Kennedy that physically found a way to stay in the game throughout.
The unbeaten Golden Knights get back to a Section 1 final for the first time since 2000, as Josh Thomson reported in his article, where it will take on Sleepy Hollow. Nanuet statistically dominated Kennedy despite three turnovers, two of which came late and didn’t matter much.
Nanuet seems poised to finished what it started here this season and beat Sleepy Hollow next week. There’s something to be said, however, about being asked to beat a team twice and about having the additional pressure of being “the favorite” to win a championship. This squad has the maturity to handle it.
Sleepy Hollow 28, Pleasantville 19: From the moment I saw Sleepy coach Steve Borys on the field before the game, I knew the Headless Horsmen were going to win.
Or should I say “Headless Horseman” since that’s what Borys was dressed up as for Halloween in tribute of the short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Check out my article here from Sunday to learn more.
Basically, in the first half Borys actually wore a black cape over a black shirt and black pants. Before the game, he walked into the Sleepy Hollow locker room in character: introducing himself as “the Headless Horseman” and using the story’s theme as an allegory to the football team’s season. The team started 1-3 and were frustrated, thus ‘losing their heads’ like the character; but the Horsemen eventually found his head by perseverence, which is what Borys implored his team to go out and do by beating Pleasantville.
In a word: Brilliant!
Kids get tired of the rah-rah pregame speeches of “nobody is giving us respect” or “play the next 48 minutes for the rest of your life.” Some might have scoffed at Borys for his attire. Those people just don’t get it. Not only did he relax his team and teach them a valuable life lesson through literature, he got them excited for the game… I’m sure smashing the pumpkin against the wall helped.
Bobby Small led the brigade, rushing for 300 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. Small was magnificent considering the soggy Parkway Field turf. He and L.J. Garrant (134 yards rushing) are going to be a nightmare on the Mahopac turf.
Class C
Croton-Harmon 25, Dobbs Ferry 21: Somehow, these guys almost outdid themselves from last season.
Not quite, but it was close as Rick Carpiniello reported in his column on Sunday. The Tigers scored twice in the final five minutes to rally back and beat the Eagles in the semifinals for the second year in a row.
Croton-Harmon, the defending champs, gets to take on Bronxville which beat it rather handily a month ago. Both teams are back at full strength after a handful of injuries apiece.
The Tigers led this one 13-0 in a blink but behind 14-13 at the half after two Devonte Brailsford touchdown runs. Dobbs blocked two punts and a field goal in the first half and opened up the lead to 21-13. A Croton blocked punt led to a touchdown where a Tyler Dorien pass to the end zone was intentionally deflected by Tyler Keppler away from a defender and into the hands of Tralli for the score. The 2-point failed and Dobbs still led 21-19.
Another botched punt, this one off a bad snap, led to a Kevin Soares touchdown run in the final minutes.
The game might not have been just a win for Croton. It might have been the boost it needed to close the gap on Bronxville next week.
Bronxville 38, Hastings 7: Well, I was wrong about this one.
I though the Yellow Jackets would be able to come out and put a serious scare into the unbeaten Broncos. Wrong. Bronxville defensively is too sound, too physical and too deep.
Mike Dougherty of The Journal News was at the game and you can read his article from the game here.
Dougherty led with Jack Near, the superb Bronxville quarterback who injured his knee in the win over Dobbs in Week 2 and is slowly making his way back. Near showed mobility and quickness against Hastings and could be ready for full-time duty very soon. Maybe even on Sunday.
Bronxville is still my clear pick to win this weekend. But given the momentum Croton has built up the last few weeks, something tells me the Class C final will be a tighter one than many predict.

Kevin,
How about acknowledging what the Stepinac Crusaders just did? They just completed the school’s first ever UNDEFEATED season.
Not to take anything away from the Sec 1 playoffs, which I know are important and should take up the bulk of the blog this time of year. But in the last 10 blog entries, this wasn’t mentioned once. And I think the kids are being short-changed.
For a team that is ranked #2 in your rankings, I’d expect a bit more coverage other than just reporting their game’s final scores each week.
the crusade:
maybe if you were playing “aaa” competition, not “aa” sorry!
i wonder how many posts there will be on this topic about all the excuses eastchester & rye have about losing and how they are still the best team in sect. 1 lol!!!
Gotta feel for the Sleepy kids. They played a great game and 90% of the game coverage is about the coach wearing a cape and smashing a pumpkin. I’m sure that is what they were thinking about when they had those 2 long TD runs late in the 4th qtr to win the game.
Dr E,
You have no idea what you are talking about. No need to feel sory for anyone of those kids. It’s excatly what they needed. The kids or the coach don’t care about coverage. Bottem line, it helped them win.
Sect 1 Comes First –
Please, do we really need to get this started again? I mean really..From Sec 1 D up to Sec 1 AA, Stepinac’s schedule was still more competitive.
Look at New Rochelle, the best team in the area. You gonna tell me their schedule was tough? C’mon man, that was a cake walk for them.
Under the stands, sorry but I disagree. Yes the costume may have loosened the players up but once the game starts I seriously doubt that one player was thinking about it. What I am saying is that this is HS Football, write about the kids, they played the game and they played a very good one.
the crusade:
i agree. it’s just the way coverage works in our area and the way it always has been. sect 1. comes first.
I’m actually ecstatic right now that the first response on this blog entry is about Stepinac. But it is the truth; The team did something amazing. Not EVERY school wins a title, some don’t have perfect regular seasons…Stepinac just finished the Season 8-0 and in convincing fashion (it’s had titles already and they look heavily favorite to do something special again). The two closest games were week 1 and 8. Week 1 they battled Fordham Prep, and Fordham last time I checked was the #7 or #8 team in AAA standings, so they are a good team and won’t be dropping down to play the AA teams. The last game was against SJB and SJB is the 4th seed in AA, meaning they won’t be dropping down either, they’ll be with Stepinac going against the bottom four AAA teams..whose records shouldn’t allow them to drop down and play more games of importance. The league should set up playoffs and non playoffs…Anyway.
The Hayes game was supposed to be a close, last minute match up of 1 and 2 undefeated teams…but by games end it was totally in the Crusaders power. I know the Crusades were more religious than the legend of the headless horsemen but some coverage on the OTHER Horseback Rider in the area would have been good to hear around Halloween.
Also the Team is located in the heart of White Plains, Near White Plains High School, Good Counsel, Harrison High, and even the other Middle school Highlands.
It’s not even like its a sub par year…Some of the public teams can go 0-6 and they get love, while a very good and talented CHSFL team gets heavily bashed…for a team in Westchester County and in the range of Journal News, it should be noticed more focused more.
but about the blog…Horseman stories and that novel always get read and used in this time of year…it is one of my favorite Washington Irving Tales of all time. I even visited his home in Irvington, I can tell how the scenery on the Hudson was used in the tale. Had it been home I could have seen someone dressed up in costume and on horseback like many times before. All he had to say was “be what you are…” they’re named after the Legend, and they went out and did what Legends do.
Btw Parkway Field is natural Grass, and just gets really soggy/flooding/muddy. That’s why some games were moved to Valhalla’s Speed Turf. So a 300 yard game on not so great natural grass will be like you said, a Nightmare on Speed Turf in Mahopac.
Btw Stepinacs enrollment is about 700 kids now…maybe 850? and no don’t Double it when you compare Public b/c if the school goes co-ed I DOUBT HIGHLY they will add 700 or so girls..if anything they would split the enrollment and halve it 425 each. But they have a good A size enrollment, and when it’s doubled they come off as a New Ro, No Ro, Arl, Mt V. OH and keep in mind they play White Plains Again due to The Tigers not winning…and White plains is in that NewroNroArl group.
I’ll never understand why they double it do make it coed, when you could keep the number and assume it be split for co ed regulations.
bronxville is on roids if you cant tell by now
Yeah –
No need for starting that right now. I don’t know any of the kids personally, but I checked out a game a few weeks back.
Some of the kids are huge, don’t get me wrong. But they aren’t juiceheads.
The team has success and all of a sudden people see a need to start bad mouthing them.
hsfbguy:
stepinac is just about 600 in enrollment.
Dr. E
See the thing that you need to understand about Sleepy Hollow and the kids, is that they play as a Family, One single unit. They dont need personal accolades in the news paper. Kevin did a great job of reporting the game and the circumstances around it. It sound like like your one of those insecure parents who need to see his kids name in the paper to make himself feel better. I guess your name gives it way…..LOL
Riddler
I got my source inside the school itself, they said in the 700’s.
But my point wasn’t the EXACT Number…RE-Read with a different number if need be.
Hollow Fan, yes that’s it. It’s my insecurity that has me saying that the kids from the other team should get more credit for playing a good game. Yeah I guess you’re right Sleepy Hollow won because of a gimmick not because of some great plays made by the kids on the field.
And yes I did enjoy reading about my kids when they played, I guess that just makes me a bad parent too.
Wow, how many times has someone been ripped on this blog for saying that the other team played well and deserved more credit? Have I set some new kind of record here?
hsfbguy:
funny with the riddler but get your info correct. it’s no where near the 700s. more like low 600s.
Under the stands-
Your kidding right, you can’t possible be that dumb.
Bobby Small rushed for 300 yards on 24 carriers and 3 TD’s in a playoff game vs the #2 team on the road. That is hands down the best game for a player this year in any Class, AA, A, B, C or D. Bobby should be getting a little more chatter than a cape and smashed pumpkin. Don’t tell me the pumpkin smashing and the cape won them the game. When Pville was lining up for the 30 yard field to take the lead with 5 minutes in the game were you thinking then no big deal our coach smashed a pumpkin and wore a cape. We will win. Look the field conditions were terrible (for both teams) but if that field goal in we could be talking about what a joke the custom was by the SH coach. Sleepy Hollow exploited Pville’s poor run defense that was shown all season.
Briacliff
Nanuet
Irivington
Sleepy
Just to name a few. They have been saved by the bend but don’t break but yesterday it broke. Good luck SH in the finals. Ok enough about football, now lets get onto Basketball. Bramswig and Nolan great season but now its time to lace em and get back to the County Center!
Pville
hands down? The kid from Magnus threw for over 400 yards and broke the section 1 record
Pville,
Don’t try to make something out of nothing.
I guess I am that dumb. I guess you know the pulse of the team all season. I guess you know how much better they can play. All year we heard how much they underacived. So maybe this helped loosen them up a bit.
I’m also dumb enough to know they beat you twice on your homw turf to get to the finals. Guess what? there was a pumpkin smashed that night two.
I’m also dumb enough to enjoy myself sat. night at 8pm. Enjoy the basketball season.
Dr.E
When did your first 2 posts say anything about the other team, you said you feel sorry for the sleepy kids!
I take my hat off to P-Ville, they played their hearts out. Their QB is an amazing athlete, and Bramswig is just amazing at WR. I truly feel is a legit D1 kicker, I hope he gots a look at the next level.
And No that doesn’t make you a bad parent, it makes you a great one, but if your knocking an article done by a journalist because you kid didn’t get enough ink, then yea, I feel your out of line.
My kids have nothing to do with this. They graduated from Pleasantville a while ago. I just feel that HS sports should be about the kids not the coach. A paragraph about the costume would have gotten the point across. The rest should have been about the game itself.
Ok point taken, I just dont want kids to read this stuff and think its all about headlines, when its not.
Agreed
HSF-BORE. So you write a book, get called out because you had an incorrect number, then get upset. WAAAAAAAA!!!. Grow up and take it like a man.
Dr. E in otherwords you are upset that Pville lost, so you need to be upset at something. So why not take it out on Kevin? Come on your complaint is lame.
crusade- kids gaining 50 pounds in the off season and your telling me thats not juice! they were the same team as last year all heavier.
So let me get this straight because I was not there. From all accounts this game sounded like a special teams fiasco that both teams did their best to lose. This is now heralded as a “great” game that gives Croton a lot of momentum. Ummm, why? I think if that happens and the other team does not equal or exceed your miscues you could be in for a long afternoon. You get a turnover or blocked punt or something early and the floodgates could open.
Stepinac enrollment is at 575 at moment & growing. They played St John The Baptist on Sat who has 2500 kids in school out in West Islip with about 1200 boys. They suited up close to 60 kids on Varsity JV & freshman [each team]
Hayes has over a 100 boys. No one complains when dobbs, Rye beats up on there competition year in & year out. There schedules are done by population. Stepinac is the third smallest enrollment in the CHSFL out of 20 schools.
Stepinac will take on St Francis Prep from Queens this weekend. Another huge school as far as population & one that ruled HS football in NY state for many years. Good Luck to the Crusaders !
Hayes has over 1000 boys in school
Really Waaaa, that’s all you can bring to the table. I’m so upset that I want the Sleepy Hollow players to get more ink? Wow!
Father Devaney,
The blog is starting to get out of control again. Are you going to step in or you only going to step in when the Dematteo’s are being attacked?
I think it is time to be consistent.
Yeah thats what you want, just like you wanted Sleepy to win and not Pville right? Your just looking for an excuse to complain and its uncalled for. Sleepy kids are worrying about winning games not whether they were noticed by Dr. E. or any of his patients.
Got to like Coach Borys style. That move is just classic. Great job Coach!
Waaaaa, you sound like you could use a few hours of therapy.
Hmmm… maybe I’m missing it… but where is the blog getting out of hand?
Yeah you are right Just a Fact… Kevin should step in when you and Football Gods are ruining a whole thread with your banter.
Back to the issue at hand. Kevin did a great job on this article. It was interesting and insightful. No need to spin it and make it seem like he took away from the kids.
Get my info correct? Least I work at a school man so maybe u and waaa should go back to class or studyhall….
Waa I’m not upset I’m pleading my case….you guys should go watch your bowl games I’ll be at some playoff games with stepinac
Just a Fact, I never questioned the coach, his motives or if it had a result. I just fell that the converage should be about the players.
I “feel” it too
just a fact:
i think that you are getting out of control. if you don’t like it go chat on another blog.
kevin keep up the good work!
HSBORE… your info was wrong, end of story. If you are going to write a response longer than Kevin’s entry, make sure your numbers are correct. And who cares where you work or where you will be. Oh and I am a Nanuet fan, so guess what? I will be at a championship game. Go Knights.
Hey HSFB if you work at a school how do you have time to live on a blog? I can only hope you are not a teacher.
The sleepy hollow football team did not win the gaame because of a cape and a broken pumpkin. They won it during 2 a days, film work, dedication and a will to win!!!
The story of “COACH BORYS THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN” was a GREAT story! This is HS football. Coach Borys had a great pregame speech but did not do all of that for the headline! HE was trying to ispire his players and lead the to victory!!! great job coach. The reported picked up on it and ran with it!
LIGHTEN UP DR. E!!!!
“The sleepy hollow football team did not win the gaame because of a cape and a broken pumpkin. They won it during 2 a days, film work, dedication and a will to win!!!”
That’s my point!
dr e:
“will to win” haha…what book did you get that out of?
Your point was to stir the pot. Nothing took away from the kids. The story was perfect.
Dr E,-
I agree with Parent and YOu
“The sleepy hollow football team did not win the gaame because of a cape and a broken pumpkin. They won it during 2 a days, film work, dedication and a will to win!!!”
Oh ya the 300 yards on 24 carriers and 3 td’s by Small didn’t hurt either. Well done by Small and the rest of the SH team (coaches included)
I can’t believe Dr E is getting heat for wishing a kid to get a little more ink. What is the blog coming to?
Under the Stands,
I’m also dumb enough to know they beat you twice on your homw turf to get to the finals. Guess what? there was a pumpkin smashed that night two.
Agreed you did beat us twice and our team was better but your pumpkin smasher saved the day. We save smashing pumpkins when we play Briacliff. Maybe we will try to smash a couple pumpkins next time we play you guys to see if that helps. I am sure your two wins have nothing to do with your players. I think the last time you guys beat us you went on to play Rye in a game some say you should have won up in Mahopac. HS football should be about the kids and as your Sleepy parent said their, “dedication and a will to win”
Sorry for the long winded explanation, I am done blogging on this topic.
Good luck Sleepy.
Under the Stands
“I’m also dumb enough to enjoy myself sat. night at 8pm.”
Your right you will clearly being enjoying yourself at 8pm you just won’t be too happy at 10pm when the boys from Nanuet show you what the pound and ground is all about!
Its our time,
I like that name pound and ground.
Let’s face it. This game should not be close. Nanuet is just bigger and stronger then Sleepy. They should be looking to a week from saturday and the first round game in the states. Don’t worry about the hollow. Cocentrate on the states.
Pville,
Dude, did the pumpkin smashing and cape win the game.. of course not. my point was. It was a nice story. The kids liked it. leave it for what it is. Don’t try to make it into something else. Any press is good press. I to am done with this topic.
I hope they cleaned the pumpkin up, or else maybe well be hearing about vandalism in the Pville locker room this time. Only Kidding of course.
Under the Stands,
U might like the comment pound and ground but you sure won’t come next Saturday, nobody does! Don’t worry we really are not too concerned about you guys. The states are our goal and you will be just another team on our way to the goal. Were you behind Pville late in the 3rd Qtr? I think that was the team we beat by 40.
George-
Very funny comments
I think the point of the day that Dr E was trying to make was that Sleep Hollow played well and deserved more recognition than they received. The coach was entertaining in his costume, but it is all about the kids, and there should have been a picture of Sleepy Hollow kids celebrating their win rather than a picture of the coach in his costume or in addition too… Good Luck Sleepy Hollow on Saturday night…
Pleasantville ..you had a great season and should be proud of your team…Jack and Nolan you were amazing to watch… can’t wait to see you on the basketball court together again…
Kev, people are again calling KIDS out for illegeal drug use(STEROIDS) and I think that is out of bounds on the blog. BUT I guess 914 does not think so. lol.
914 when you have some football to discuss let me know.
The article itself is GREAT. I complimented Coach Borys!
Kevin watch dobbs-croton. dobbs outplayed them.. there was no penalty on the punt return, watch the film.
The broncos are undefeated due to skill..they r not using. One of their running backs stepped in as q.b. when Near got hurt and took this team to undefeated status. Their line is amazing. They are strong, intense and putting in 100%. To imply that kids are taking illegal drugs is slanderous and when put in a blog..it’s cowardly as well. Kevin, any talk of kids using steroids should be erased from blog.
I just want to make sure that everyone understands that “its our time” has nothing to do with the Nanuet football team. At 4:35 and 5:07 when his or her comments were made, the Nanuet football team was in watching films and practicing to prepare for Sleepy Hollow.
Blogs are fun but do not make comments that look like they are coming from players, coaches or teams. Games are won by football players who have given their blood, sweat and tears since Aug. 21. I can safely say that ” its our time” is not one of those players.
nanuet,
well put, will see you there Sat. night. Glad you cleared that up as its our time was making you guys look like something I’m sure you are not.
I am not a player from Nanuet, just a fan. As you can see from my above comments I said, “when the boys from Nanuet” I just have watched Nanuet a couple times this year and there is no way sleepy can hang with them. They are too physical, strong up front, and great powerful runners
Nanuet 28 SH 14
914 you asked
dr e:
“will to win” haha…what book did you get that out of?
From the post above mine.
Is your attention span that short?
Horseman act worked last week. Wonder if coach biting the head off a chicken is enough to beat Nanuet this week?
It’s our time
In your second comment, you say ” we are not concerned with you guys. The states are our goal.” That implies that you are a member of the team which you are not. It is great that you are an enthusiastic fan but stay away from the trash talking.
I am sure that all 10 teams left standing from Class AA to Class D are not looking past the upcoming games. It is a tremendous accomplishment for all the teams who will be in Mahopac this weekend.
The amount of upsets that there have been have made in exciting postseason. I am looking forward to some great Section 1 playoff football. Good luck to them all.
No one on Bronxville gained 50 pounds. Stop crying and saying they were using steroids just because they’re undefeated and have a very good football team. Its cowardly and untrue to write on a blog and claim they use steroids. So stop making up all of this stuff and show some respect.
What a humanitarian that “just a guy” is; he wants them all to get tested to clear their names because he and some people are suspicious and hey, maybe Dr. Just a guy can do the testing as well and save all of us a lot of time. He’s suspicious and that’s a good enough reason for me, yup, sure is. Maybe we could also have the police go over and check out “Just a guys” house, car, and computer just so, you know, we know he’s clean. Now, I’m sure “just a guy” is a decent, hardworking guy with good genes but if he truly has nothing to hide he can get this black cloud that’s hovering over him to vanish, because, frankly, myself and several acquaintances who read his recommendations are somewhat suspicios of his zeal regarding this topic and would like him checked out; just, you know, to keep things on the up and up. I’m sure he might have some 8th amendment problems with that but this, after all, is for the greater good and I am sure he would be happy to comply.
Kev, my first post was busting your chops about ” Father Devaney”, but in all seriousness, you have a total blog about how all is spinning out of control because Coach Demmateo gets attacked and yet the attacks on HS school kids above are all fair game?
My case rests.
Wow,
Thanks for that. These boys dont deserve to be called users. They’ve worked hard and should be allowed all the happiness the game is bringing them. By the way, if you look at the rosters from last year to this year, the line has maybe gained an average of 15 points.. and to your point, they’re 16… they’re still growing. Stop with all the negative comments on the kids and just let them play.
Hey “The man” I don’t know if your just being bias to the fact of being a Dobbs fan, or you just didn’t see the play developed the way I seen it! First let me say, it was a great run by Brailsford, but I did see it right in front of me,not one but two clear out clips by dobbs that would very well would have been tackles early on when he recieved the ball. That is the TRUTH!!!
bronxville is clearly on the juice… if they arent doing it i dare you to get them tested… i bet my left nut that they are using it.
just a guy,
You people who know nothing about this team or these kids are ridiculous, These kids are 6’5, 6’5, 6’3, 6’2 and 6’1 on the line. They are not muscled out they are just big kids i have seen them play 4 times this year and they just work hard and work as a team. take a walk and find something else to bitch about. you are ignorant and should not speak of things you know nothing about. No fool should ever cast a cloud over them. These highschool football playes work to hard for that. next time you speak think before you say something stupid
Kevin how are you sitting back and letting these people call kids steroid users? Sure, have them tested but I will bet an arm and a leg that they’re not using. Users look and act much differently than these kids.. they’re nice, do well in school and don’t have the general appearance a steroid user tends to have.. Watch, I bet you they’re clean.
I think I lot of people use the word “we” when referring to their favorite team. I say we will kill the philles but that doesn’t mean I play for the yanks. I wasn’t trying to implying that I played for Nanuet. I am sorry if it came off that way. But Nanuet fans like it or not you are such a clear cut favorite over SH. You have a senior loaded team that is too physical for smaller teams like SH. You have one of the most least talked about coaches who just wins year in and year out. You have a stud RB. A rock solid defense. Where is the weakness?? The only thing I am not sure is your kicking game, is it good, bad or average? You haven’t been to the big dance in a while and I am sure the kids will be extremely hungry. They are playing for more than just each other. There are the full package and will cruise by SH. I am taking back my earlier predication and changing it to Nanuet 35 SH 7. I know you guys would like to keep it on the down low but when your that good you can’t. Sleepy come get it!
I was just trying to clarify that you were not a Nanuet player which you have confirmed. You have every right to your opinion which is what these blogs are for.
You mention Coach Conklin in your last comment. He is a legendary coach in Section 1 who has won over 200 wins, numerous Section Titles and a State Title in 1989.
I am sure he has not lasted 34 years as a Head Coach by looking past anyone, especially a Section Final opponent. Keep rooting for your team but just remember, it is “their time”, not “our time”.
i have witnessed people yelling about steriods at games and i can tell you that they are clearly an ignorant bunch. reading it on the blogs angered me but once i saw the faces behind the noise you realize your dealing with low lifes that dont deserve the time of day. just ignore the noise and they will go away.
Enough with the steroid topic. It’s all speculation you guys have no evidence let alone, any proof. What are the odds that anyone just happened to be monitoring the weight of Bronxville Linemen then all of a sudden come out this late in the season to say something.
Put it to rest guys and stop being haters.
The thing that’s really hilarious is that the people screaming for testing etc are always the people screaming about their own rights. Why is that the people who kick and scream about their rights usually have no problem violating someone else’s. How do we test? Do we do it for every kid on every team? Who pays for it, organizes it, etc? Do we go on “Just a guys” suspicions or a quorom of his cronies? This is HS sports and to my knowledge, no money is changing hands. The kids are minors, and without wanting to appear naive, are for the most part doing all of this for the right reason. They should be the worry of their parents and not a bunch of bloggers et.al. As someone noted earlier if you connect the dots, it all boils down to certain type of jealousy. You say these kids cannot be that big or that good, therefore, if they are, they must be somehow cheating. That then takes you off the hook as far as what would be necessary for you or your team to do the same because you can kick back and say, “well, they cheated and I did not; if I cheated I could also be that good.” The reality, of course, is quite different but it makes one feel good about one’s self. The other thing is that I would hope all these self-righteous accusers hold themselves up to the same high standards that they set for everyone else.
O M G CLASS C
If you have proof, not just your speculation, you shold produce it. If not you should be quiet. You sound like what you’re really saying is that Bronxville beat you so they must be cheating.
Regarding testing, are we talking blood, urine, what? because I hear people throwing around the term “testing”like they slicing up a loaf of bread. True testing is an invasive procedure and we would do it on who’s say so? and for what reason? These kids are 99% minors and should be the worry of their parents. This is not professional sports and if there is any subterfuge going on the price will be paid down the road and any parent that allowed such a thing to happen would, along with their kid, pay that price down the road. This is not some big secret, the general public is well informed concerning steroid use and its complications so this topic should be put to rest so that football can actually be discussed. We have one guy willing to bet his left testicle they are “juicing”. Is that really a good enough reason? Would anyone actually want his left testicle? Another guy states that 5 of them gained an average of 60 pounds. really? Where did he get those stats? Is there a chance that could be speculation? When did this witch hunt start comrades? Concerning testing, checking out, and general governmental regulations put in place for the “greater good”, I would be very careful what you wish for because you might get it. There were some places like that in recent history, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Aahh, the good old days. Most of Stalin’s ministers thought it was good also and they thought that right up until the time they were led off to the Gulag. Laugh all you want because you think those things can’t happen but my dad who served 4 years in Europe sure as heck does not because he knows this is how it starts.
Must be from having grown up int 60’s and 70’s but any time someone offers to do something to me or for me for “my own good”, I always check for my wallet to make sure it’s still there. Guess that makes me a cynic.

that guy O M G is using a very unusual spacing pattern between his letters. Frankly, I’m a little suspicious. Could this be some sort of code he’s passing to our enemies. I saw the movie “Breach” so I kind of know how these cyphers work. I think he’s passing valuable information to “Just a guy”. I say we have the two of the checked out, you know, for their own and the blogs sake. You with me. BTW, I’m a little busy right now so would you mind handling this one? I’ll take the next one. Wait, I just saw a janitor throwing out a bag of trash, don’t like his looks, might be drunk, hang on, I’ll take this one.
I agree we must stay vigilant. Where is Joe McCarthy when we need him to weed out the cheats among us?
paging Dr E
We may have to re-think our plans. So, I’m driving on the parkway and I see some guy talking on his cell phone and, get this, he looks like he hasn’t shaved in 2 days or something. This is not some “look” he’s going for, IMHO this is just lazy slothful behavior of the worst kind plus with the talking on the cellphone and all he’s a clear and present menace to all us upstanding drivers so I do what any right thinking guy should do and cut him off and pull him over. This is where the trouble starts. The guy is clearly agitated as I try to explain I’m doing this for his own good so that he can get this dark cloud that’s hovering over him cleared away etc and the guy starts chasing me around the cars screaming he’s going to kill me etc. So, that’s what you get in re-payment for trying to do a good deed. Imagine. You just can’t help some people. If only he could follow the righteous path that you and I are clearly on (fact, not opinion)
well my proof…. they were softttt kids last year when we destroyed them .. kids got straight bodied left and right and now they come out huge and a good 30-50 pounds bigger of muscle… yeh thts my point. you dont get that big in the off season especially lazy fat kids like that.
Well, there you have it; finally, some proof. “They were softttt (sic) last year when we (you) destroyed them”. And “30-50 pounds heavier”-which is it? do you have a scale? that’s a pretty big gap there 66% difference between 30 and 50. Plus you say they are lazy and fat. Have you been in the gym with them? I would venture to say they could probably bench press you. No, like Dr E said, we finally have it, this is a clear cut case of sour grapes and maybe, just maybe, you are accusing the wrong people of being lazy. Is that possible? Sometimes grit and determination can carry you a long way and perhaps you should give them a try some time. Everyone wants to win but not everyone is willing to do what’s necessary to win. I would love to walk on the moon but that doesn’t make me an astronaut.
I play on the bronxville oline. I went from 6’2 1/2” 240 at the end of last season to about 6’4” 270 on the first day of summer camp 2009. I trained 3-4 days a week with weights and did speed/agility training as well to maintain 4.9 speed. The only supplements I used were protein powder post workout and a multivitamin. No one is using steroids, no one gained 50 pounds, and the only reason for this post is to give an example of what people can accomplish when they work hard in the off season and do the right things. Good luck to all teams.
O M G CLASS C…should be O M G CLASSLESS…you sound like an ignorant fool that lost a football game and is now throwing slurs…shut up already. you have no idea about what you are talking about and that is why you will go on to be a loser in life. people like you stay at the bottom of the barrel. rather than doing something to make yourself better you prefer to try to bring others down…it wont work…never did…never will.
Hey,Its our Time,
playoff sports is all about peaking. For your sake hope that Nanuet is because Sleepy sure seems like they are.Best of luck to both teams on Saturday night. In my opinion they are the 2 that belong, an interesting match up.
OMG Class C… if you are from croton you guys went 2 and 6 the year before you guys went to states. Bronxville just got a lot better, just like croton did last year. So stop bitching because they are good this year.
I notice you don’t have the balls to write your name on this blog so that you don’t have to own up to your accusations. You can try to say that I cheat to make yourself feel better about losing, but that doesn’t change the fact that I have never used any type of steroids or drugs and I don’t need to because I’m probably a lot better than you anyway. I’m sure there are plenty of people who saw greater gains than me in the offseason without cheating, and if not, they should have probably worked harder. Grow up and stop second guessing our successes.
Is all this hating from the Pleasantville players and fans?
“Is all this hating from the Pleasantville players and fans?”
Where is that coming from?
I have never know a more classless and bitter town of people than croton. pure jealousy. Bronxville smacked you bad, sorry get over it and dont worry you will have a whole year for those players that arent seniors, but dont worry seniors you get the rest of your lives to think about how bronxville ended your football career after this sunday.
This blog has taken a turn for the worse and it is not being monitored properly by the Journal News. There are accusations here about illegal activity that are being made without any element of proof. There are people calling kids “lazy fat asses”. These are high school kids we are talking about, not NFL players who get paid millions or college kids on full rides, just some 16, 17 and 18 year old kids who play for the love of the game. The defamatory and outrageous slams of kids need to stop.
My suggestion to the Bronxville players is to ignore this blog and some of the morons who post on it. Don’t respond, don’t post, just let your play this weekend speak for itself.
To the Bronxville players – you have achieved a lot already this season. Whenever you achieve something in life, most people will appreciate it and honor you, but a lot of people will be jealous and intimidated by your success, and a few will try to tear you down.
Don’t pay any attention to those people. Keep your focus on football and the future.
What a complete disgrace. For a 16 year old player to get on here and explain his size and training routine to a handfull of mentally disturbed people in an effort to justify why his team is winning, is a complete disgrace. Those shouting slurs about these players should be ashamed. #55 keep up the good work and be proud. Ignore this blog. The Broncos work hard. They play hard and fair. The amount of jealous rage on this blog is sickening. Bronxville is always the target of jealous babble. In fact, the tone is so vicious, perhaps these hateful bloggers are “Juiced” themselves. I mean, they’re so obsessed about it….so knowledgeable about it…perhaps from personal experience? Or perhaps they’re kids that just don’t know any better. Jealous, hateful sentiment seems to be in style now-a-days. It is not in style in Bronxville. If you don’t like it here..stay out. If you can’t appreciate our teams…don’t watch them. If you have nothing positive to say about teens playing to their best ability…be quiet. The Bronxville kids should be very proud of their record. And as for beating them last year….yes that was last year..and this is a new year, a new team and a new chapter.
?
Kevin,,,This blog has become dangerous. Clean it up or shut it down.

Unfortunately, the blog has not changed. There have always been a few people who when they lose can not admit that the other team was better or worked harder. They must be cheats. Often in order to make their point they come on with different screen names to make it look like there are multiple people who feel the same way. That way the blanket accusation seems to be more credible. It has been going on as long as the blag has been in existence. I wish these people would go away (maybe if they spent this much time in the gym they wouldn’t have to whine) but they probably will be here as long as there is a blog. This years target is Bronxville. I remember the same thing being said about Rye, Briarcliff, Pleasantville and many others in the past. There will be a new target next year.
Dr E:
Unfortunately the false accusations have been lasar targeted at Rye in the past, of course with no validity.

Yeah, they’re pretty much the constant.
to just a guy
I should take it easy? “it’s a blog”, “you don’t know what you think” (yet you feel you should comment, lol), “they have a black cloud over them and should unburden themselves”. Those are all your words, no? and I should not get my panties bunched? I can tell you there is not a sngle player or parent that feels in any way burdened or feels there is any black cloud. You’re saying we should do testing because you, personally, heard a few things so you and a few of your cronies think that’s now a sufficient reason to institute testing? You and a number of bloggers for whatever reason, perhaps jealousy, somehow feel the need to besmirch the reputations of a bunch of hardworking kids who have dedicated themselves to winning a championship. In years past during a more civil era, this sort of dedication would have been applauded and admird but now, you and few others feel the need to tear them dowm and make it all ugly. Have you, at long last sir, no sense of decency? In the end, win or lose, it will have been a wonderful season but they will do their talking on the field so let’s play ball. I know it’s a blog but please think before you write hurtful and slanderous comments about what you feel other people should do to “unburden” themselves because perhaps you could use a little of it yourself. Regarding the kid calling our kids fat and lazy; is there a chance he’s looking in the mirror and doesn’t really like whay he sees? Maybe it is about hard work; what a concept!!!
Let’s applaud our kids, encourage them, build them up and show them through our own actions and communications how to act with refined dignity. Words can be very damaging to a young person’s emotions. Life is too short to turn something that is fun and admirable into an ugly competition of name calling and finger pointing. Let’s reserve the blog for positive talk about the kids and their great athletic accomplishments. There’s enough negative stuff out there for kids to deal with. Sports should be a haven from what’s going down on the street. Let’s keep it upbeat.
The real loss here is that the false logic of the accusers-
namely that Bronxville kids are winning and are big, thus they must be cheating-is extremely corrosive not just for the targets but for Section 1 football as a whole. Will these comments lead other young men to figure that if you want to win, you must cheat? If so, these comments amount to much more than a serious libel of these particular boys: the comments actually promote the very behavior they purport to condemn by carelessly drawing a causal relationship between winning and steroids.
Setting aside the libel of these boys, are these bloggers willing to take responsibility for the young men that read this blog and conclude that winning requires cheating? If not, they should go silently into the night apologizing to these boys and anyone that was subjected to their libel.
1) teenagers can not just magically “get” steroids…they don’t sell them at your local grocery store…
2) If anyone on the team was using steroids there would be OBVIOUS physical and mental side affects, which by now would have been noticed and addressed by the coach, teammates, or parents especially with all the attention on here about the subject.
3) The Broncos were a young team last year consisting mainly of sophomores and juniors..it is no surprise that their players got bigger, stronger, and faster.
4) The team did come out of no where but claiming the use of steroids is a measly attempt by those they have beaten, or are going to beat, at making excuses…
AND guess what…4 out of 5 of their BIG BOYS on the line are juniors, coming back next year for more…I am sure they will all be bigger stronger and faster…
