Watch the Rye-Poughkeepsie replay

- November
- 2
If you missed this instant classic, you have two chances to make up for it.
You can watch the replay on Lohud.com/vcsports1 where the game is available onDemand. You can get there by clicking here.
Or, if you’re a Cablevision subscriber, you can watch the game tonight at 7:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity (Ch. 14). They had announcers and sideline reporters at the game, which I’ve said is one of the best I’ve ever been a part of.
At 7, you should check out MSG’s High School Sportsdesk. They’ll have highlights of Sleepy Hollow-Pleasantville, Croton-Bronxville. Sportsdesk repeats at 10 and will again be followed by Rye-Poughkeepsie at 10:30.

Thanks Kevin but I’m not sure I can stomach that a second time…maybe they will show the alternative ending!
Dobbs-Croton was one of the best games of the year..right behind this thriller.
watched a tape of this game today and rye has a gripe about the officiating, especially in the 4th qtr. criminal call on a 4th and ten when the official on the pok sideline flagged rye for a pass interference. there is no cinderella finish w/o the help of that call….. good luck to pok they have a nice looking squad.
Why is it if you ever mention bad officials it is sour grapes or poor sportsmanship. Bottom line the officials often have a large effect on a game. Most of the time it would not change the outcome of a game. In this case however it does. If you watch the tape you will see it. The 4th quarter was the worst display of officiating I have ever seen. They made sure Pogh. won. I am not saying every call was wrong but there were some HUGE BS calls, and quite a few non calls on the Pogh. offense. I understand why Dino was so hot. That being said Dino still should have punted. But Rye was robbed. It is a fact.
If you watch the tape slowly, Graham moves before the ball is snapped.
Will this ever end?
Q: What is complaining and whining going to do?
A: Nothing
Q: Will it change the outcome of Fridays game?
A: No
Q: So why are people still complaining?
A: IDK because they don’t understand that in life, not everything is always smooth sailing. And regardless of what happens…the world keeps on turning.
Conclusion: Rye is a great team, no doubt about that. As a PK fan I must admit I’ve never been so impressed with an offensive line like that. Rye made whole and big plays. But unfortunately there knocked out the playoffs. Therefore, quit whining bc it wont change anything. You’ll have a great team next year and im sure you will come back with a vengeance. But please let the ‘obscure’ Poughkeepsie and Roosevelt teams enjoy their moment. Thanks
If you go to around 2 hours and 42 minutes, in the tape you will see #35 leaving legitametely early. How are you allowed to do that in a football game? This is ridiculous.
Rocket we are all happy, that Roosevelt and PK are getting an experience of a life time, something mostly alot of those Rye players have already experienced. It is great to see new teams, but when officials, ruin a game like that are we going to just sit there and swallow it. No we are outraged that a team was knocked out due to poor officiating. This game wasn’t won on the field but by the Zebra crew.
Hey we watched tape of the game… Obviously rye was a better, more physical team. The refs definitely gave the game to Pokeepsie at the end. Pok. has a few good players and they are fast but I don’t think we’ll have a problem with them next week. ROOSEVELT TO STATES Ya dig.
All Rye Fans-
Let it be. We lost. We’ll be back. Bad ref calls are a part of the game – all teams suffer from them. It’s part of the game. No issue – it’s JUST HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
COACH D WILL SPANK THAT SMALL FRY FROM OSSINING. OSSINING DOESN’T BELONG ON THE SAME FIELD AS THE TUSKERS.OSSINING IS NOW CALLED THE O’S THAT’S FOR ZERO THE SAME NUMBER OF POINTS THEY’LL SCORE FRIDAY NIGHT. TUSKERS 38- 000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
ya dig pk 34 rvelt 32
haha… im guessin 38-12
Just watched the game on again. That last pass interference was a joke. I really do not get it. There was nothing there.Hey refs great job you were Pogh’s MVP.
You guys CAN NOT blame the loss on the refs. Things like this happen year in and year out. Its high school Football! Poughkeepsie was the better second half team.
Well, if the two MSG Varsity commentators didn’t have a problem with the Rye pass interference calls, I don’t see why any anyone else should. Heck, the first one was a clear case of faceguarding…
Also: I could point out the number of bad calls which have gone against Poughkeepsie’s football team over the years, but bandwidth considerations won’t allow me to… Believe me, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Rye football program; I’m sure the Garnets will be a force in Class A for years to come. However, I also feel that PK won this game on the basis of grit, determination, and an utter refusal to pack it in after trailing by 17 points at the end of the first half. That’s it. Hopefully the Pioneers can put forth a similar effort against Roosevelt this Saturday…
Once again I would like to thank Section 1 for one of the worst displays of HS officiating I have witnessed.
e witnessed in Section
POK should enjoy every minute of this, it is undeserved and not respected by any true football fan.
Total domination by Rye up front on both sides of the ball, I hope that this group never gets a chance to work a HS level game again.
With all of that said, #35 is the best pure athlete I have witnessed this year, and POK will only advance as far as his hands and feet can carry them.
They have a major deficiency at QB so the will have to run the direct snap and short throws in order to get him the football.
Not enough talent to advance past the regional semis on either Roosevelt or POK.
well im a true high school football fan and i respect it Ur not the rep person for real high school fans, ur a mad Rye fan get over it ur team lost, u hand control of the game PUNT and win its that easy! I respect RYE alot but their fans are starting to act like cry babies, their were missed calls on both sides of the ball i know i was there unlike some of u who watched on video . That last pass inter. call was legit when the POK player turn around to catch the ball the Rye player grabbed him barely(just enough to throw off his jump for the ball) but it was a pass inter. call, should it have been called don’t know im not a ref and neither are u all. Anyway i work for MSG so i dont know anything about either team but all those pass inter. calls were legit could they have let some of them go sure but the calls were right even if u disagree the ref was right . and if Pok doesnt have enough talent then RYE didnt either period see u at the Pac ohh sorry i wont because ur teams home lol
I watched the ending too.
Whatever the refs did (at best, it was a marginal call), POK shut down the last series when all it would have taken is a simple first down for Rye to win it all. None of the running plays were inventive or did anything to wind down the clock. Eck did not impress with the little roll out into space on their final play. I see the rationale with not punting as by that time in the game the POK surge was becoming overpowering. The final Rye play is indicative of that.
I was surprised that POK didn’t score on some of the earlier passes where the Rye secondary continually were taking chances at the interception and missing rather than stay with their player. The ball was just overthrown badly several times to open receivers. Once there was finally a reception, GONE.
So, Rye, quit griping. You have a great team, but on this day couldn’t manage to finish the game the way you started.
scottinrye
If there was so much “total domination” up front, how come it was lost on the last series when they couldn’t even muster a first down and on the most important play of their season, POK easily sacks Eck and quickly off the ball. Stop it!
scottinrye,
Iona fans used to have a bad reputation on this blog for being the most arrogant. But this week many Rye fans including yourself have catapulted Rye fans to the most arrogant, entitled, obnoxious bloggers. I guess you have your wish – Rye is #1 in one category. To say Pok’s win was undeserved and not respected by any true HS football fan is an extraordinarily pathetic, petty comment. This is HS football, there are good calls and bad calls. I watched the MSG replay and of the 3 late pass interference calls, one of them might be considered questionable the other two were obvious. However, there were a few other questionable non-calls on potential pass interference plays. If you’ve watched any college football this year there have been a ton of bad pass interference calls both non-calls and calls alike – believe me its not limited to Rye.
Despite whatever the bad calls were, Rye had a chance to win it on the field at least twice in the closing minutes. They could’ve gotten the first down, instead they came up way short on an unusual play call rolling out Eck who isn’t fleet of foot. And second, they could’ve tackled Graham on the last play. I know Rye isn’t known for their team speed, but Pok made them look slow at times. Pok has some excellent athletes for sure.
I’m a “real” football fan and I watched Pok WIN the game on the field making a huge stop on 4th down and converting a 49 yd TD on the last play of the game. That is called WINNING a game. What you are doing is called WHINING. I know they’re spelled similarly, but they are very different.
ScottinRye,
Nyack fan makes a great point. If there was so much “total domination” up front for Rye, why did they only score 20 points and have trouble scoring/moving the ball late. “Total domination” is a huge overstatement that I’m starting to understand is par for the course from certain Rye fans.
On the bright side for Rye, they bring back a lot of players next year including their QB, so they should have a good chance to compete for the Class A title again. Ossining and Nyack the two perennially top Class A teams recently don’t look to be as strong to me. Harrison and Eastchester should be very good as well.
I was at the POK/Rye game and I was at almost the same vantage point the ref was at on the POK side of the field on the last pass interference call. From there, it appeared #26 bumped the receiver. watching last night however, it appeared like much less of a bump.
I feel bad for #26, it could have easily been a no call, especially since the ball was uncatchable.
A punt out of bounds earlier would have taken the heat off the defense. a couple of guys deep near the goal line would have helped too.
POK’s #35 was the best athlete on the field and found a way to get it done for his team. Super HS football game for him. Yes, the officiating was questionable. But, Rye could have and should have overcome that. I think the game should have been over with about 7 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Rye was moving the ball in POK territiory with a 20-7 lead. Holding call on a run that would have put the ball on the POK 20 yard line pulled Garnets out of field goal range. That was the start of a nightmarish end; sort of the perfect storm of bad penalties, questionable play calls, key player injuries, ect. It happens, even to Rye. Time to dust yourselves off and start another streak.
To all you Rye haters:
Look at the rushing, time of posession and turnover stats and tell me Rye did not dominate.
It is obvious that the incompetence of a Dutchess/Westchester mixed crew of officials took the game out of the hands of the players and coaches.
Even the most biased POK supporter would have to acknowledge that it would be a better victory to “win it on the field.”
No matter how you slice it, this is a tainted victory by a gritty team that will always know that they were given a gift.
Should never happen again.
I didn’t watch the replays but its tough to complain about a pass interference call. They can’t even get those right in the NFL. But the last play the PK kid u caught the TD did leave way early. But the two biggest problems is this:
1. Dino has to without a doubt punt the ball. Even if your worried about the snap have Eck punt the ball. All you needed is a 15 to 20 yard kick out of bounds.
2. Look at Rye Defense on the last play. Why is the OLB jamming the guy at the line of scrimmage. Which by the way he missed. All you have to defend the End zone and sideline. They had no Timeouts and could never set up a field goal if he is tackled in bounds. Why does Rye have the MLB 3 yards of the ball. They have 6 guys in the box. Why they should have a 3 man rush with with 4 guys at the 25 and 4 guys at the 10. If they get the ball to the 25 and get out of bounds you would be still talking a 42 yard field goal. If the kid makes so be it. You tip your hat.
ScottinRye,
You seem to missing 3 main points 1) the more you spout this nonsense the worse it makes you and all the other Rye fans look. 2) yes, there were some bad calls in the game, but there are bad calls in almost every game – are you just noticing that? and 3) Rye had many chances to win the game on the field and didn’t take advantage of any of them. On the other hand, Pok made the huge 4th down stop when they needed it and Graham made a spectacular play to win the game.
You’re giving Rye fans a bad name constantly saying Pok didn’t deserve the win, people don’t respect their win, and that Pok didn’t win on the field. You must’ve been watching a different game than I did, because when it mattered most I saw Pok make the big plays to win and Rye didn’t. It happens all the time in football. I’m sure over the years more bad calls have gone in Rye’s favor than against them.
scottinrye is to RYE what Husky92 is to Harrison
Wow, Josh Graham is a player! Coach Garr left his corners hung out to dry with this kid. I believe they said he runs a 4.37 40!! Even at the highest level a player like that gets help with a double team or help over the top. When a DB (#26) gets 2 pass int’s maybe it is time to give him help. Did the Rye coaching staff not give this guy a enoegh respect. Rye should have punted on 4th and 8. If they run a roll out with Eck (which is a dumb call)throw it, clock stops either way on change of position, Eck is not beating #7, #90 or #55. On last play why play so tight to the line?? Rye should have had 3 linemen and 8 DB’s?? Oh well the run is finally over. Well it looks like Roosevelt vs. Poughkeepsie will be an epic war. My score is R 35 P-Town 28.
Football comes down to heart.
It could be said in Rye’s losses to Eastchester and POK. The team that wanted it more got the win, even if they weren’t the better team. Dominating one half and then coasting doesn’t always work like it has the last couple seasons, and when the Rye players learn this, they will be unbeatable. They had their opportunities to take the game for themselves regardless of bad play calling or bad officiating.
It comes down to who wanted it more, the only time ive ever seen a Rye celebration is after Harrison and States. Do you think Rye would have piled on top of each other and cried from happiness had they beat POK? No they wouldn’t have, Rye has come to a point where winning wasn’t something to work for but rather something that happens.
Watch out next year though…
Scott in Rye,
Rye dominated POK up front?? If Rye got 1 first down on any of their last 3 possessions they would have secured a victory. Doesn’t sound like domination to me. Don’t be fooled by meaningless stats like time of possession. Hard to possess the ball for too long when you have tds of 57 and 49. Rye’s coaching staff is going to have to do some work in the offseason. You can’t run the same 6 plays against better, more athletic teams or they can just drop back down to the C or D, or whatever nonsense league they came from.
there have been horrible calls all year. i am sure that the refs are doing their best. most of the refs are older and have been around for a long time. i personally think that the section needs to actively recruit younger refs and give them the appropriate training.
no one cares what you have to say. Go back to the Catholic play off thread.
oh please,
Great point
Watched the game, Roosevelt 31-Po’Keepsie 22.
tusker revenge: go to sleep you have an algebra test tomorrow.
Lastly, ScothnRye: Just one point, you lost, get over it, stop the crying, you people from Rye are starting to act like Eastchester fans.
Pretty soon the Rye fans will arouse the ire of CRYSOMEMORE.
Pardon me it is ScottinRye. Either way stop the f’ing crying. Better luck next year. Best of luck to the Class A finalists Po’keepsie and Roosevelt.
ScottinRye,
I’m a rabid rye fan but please enough with your negative stuff and extreme comments. Yeah some of the calls can be questioned which could have made a difference but the GAME IS OVER AND THATS PART OF FOOTBALL.
Also RYE did not “totally dominate” the offensive line. If they did then Rye would have been much more dominant in the second half and would have been able to get a first down in 5 plays when Dino made what I feel was the wrong call. What game were you at? Do you remember #90, #55, etc for POK that kept making tackles!!! Also had POK’s Qback not overthrown his receivers a few times the game may have changed for PK’s favor. Also POK’s kids had great sportsmanship during the game assisting rye’s kids after almost every play!!
You may not think I’m a true rye fan but I am. THIS LOSS REALLY HURT!
BUT YOUR NEGATIVE RILING IS WRONG, NOT ACCURATE, AND IS NOT DOING YOU OR ANYONE ELSE IN RYE A FAVOR
Scott in Rye
You LOST. Poughkeepsie scored 3 TD’s in the final 4 minutes. I don’t care if Putin were officiating. Poughkeepsie deserved it. Now move on.
Just to say(although many teams rye played such as Ossining had this problem), rye lost some of their major players to minor injuries. Storino #10 was playing with a high ankle sprain on basically 2 weeks rest. Mccormack #41 tweaked something at one point. Bonaventura, the backup running back hurt himself too while mmccormack was out. Along with another couple slight injuries including one on the line. Garr made a gutsy call, punt would be safe but the 4th down try has worked for him in the past. Now that he has failed with it for the 1st time in basically the past 6 years people call him terrible. The mistake i see is not letting Storino play cornerback/safety at the end. Storino is arguably the fastest person on rye, even with a high ankle sprain and Garr refused to let him go in because he didnt want to risk him getting injured. That was the biggest mistake because at the end storino, not only faster but stronger than other rye backs wouldve made the tackle. Cant prepare for the future if you haven’t got there yet.
