As we prepare for the Section 1 semifinals, I had a feature in today’s Journal News pinpointing who will be the most important player(s) in each game this weekend.
I called them the ‘X-factors’ and highlighted the non-quarterbacks and non-running backs who play vital roles. You can check them out by clicking here.
We also had a preview of every game scheduled this weekend, which you can read here.
There were a couple of games yesterday — Edgemont topped Ardsley 27-8 and Tappan Zee hosted Beacon.
Beautiful day and should be a nice weekend. Going to play some golf. Back later.

Kevin,
In your article, you refered to Rye LB Joe Simolacaj as a “transfer” from Rye Neck. Last season Joe played on the Rye JV and was brought up to varsity for the playoff run. I was told he moved to Rye after 8th grade when his parents bought a house here. If that constitutes being a transfer how far back does this go when refering to people that moved? Were the Greenberg brothers of Harrison fame transfers when they left Rye after 5-6th grade? How about Bruce Mesner also of Harrison and NFL fame? He told me he went to school in Rye until 2nd grade before moving to Harrison. Is he a transfer? 2nd grade, 6th grade 8th grade….exactly when does someone attain transfer status? If this designation of “transfer” needs to be made then there are surely many so called “transfers” scattered on every roster in Section 1. I always thought that a transfer refered to someone who played for one team then left to play for another on a lateral basis not a young kid that moves into town in middle school that goes on to play a sport at his new school. I know this seems trite, but “transfer” has been a dirty word on this blog through the years, and I do not think it applies to Joe.
It does seem trite.
Jim,
Excellent…”trite”...dont think Ive ever seen that used on this site before..its like Scrabble although you wouldnt get many points..you almost have to figure a context where you could even use the word trite..well done..
Careful guys, or you may get another scolding from Father Devaney….
anybody hear about the brawl at the tz beacon game?
Joe what game will be up on the site this weekend?
X Factor’s: Kevin in relation to Rye’s X-Factor Joe S. is going up against a 305 center and #82 Gunther got pushed around leaving the edge open to 10 or 12 yards a play. For Rye on film it will be #26 (?) and 72 (?)who will be the X-Factor. Keven you should really watch the film before writing a article like that. Good luck to all playoff teams.
Earth to Kevin- what games are online tonight? is rye POK on MSG?
For putting up with you guys I would say St. Kevin…at the least
Catholic vs. Public,
#26 for Rye is Mike Collins and #72 is Matt McReddie. Go Garnets!
Looking forward to seeing the 3 headed monster on Halloween.
Kennedy Beware…...Haney, Ostro, Bonomolo along with Biratella, Purvis and Mooney are just a few of the beasts that will be making an appearance tomorrow
no shot that kid from Bronxville is getting looks from Notre Dame. Thats just a little ridiculous ima have to have a talk with Charlie Weiss. The kids in class C and no one even knows his name.
maxpreps just announced a partnership with nysphaa for the next three years! no more stupid score thing we use!
Facts of Life-
You sound like a CHSFL hater in disguise…is that you Iona Power or is it Hoops Fan???
There is a very real possibility that the kid from Bronxville is getting looks. There is more than you think around here and is increasing with exposure
I would say Facts of Life is most likely Blair, she was the slightly chubby and often jealous spoiled one on that show. Why he would give a darn whether Notre Dame has made inquiries is anyone’s guess but, “you take the good you take the bad dah dah dah dah dah dah, the Facts of Life” (repeat chorus). Ima haff to say him worrying about things that don’t need no worrying about but perhaps give Charlie a call and be sure to say, “wassup Chuckie my man, vis a vis, that Bronxville kid”
Hoops or Iona should bust you in the face for slandering and assuming identities…obviously Hoops and Iona Power would use their real names b/c they have nothing to hide.
That kid would never play at Notre Dame, he’d make it, but you know how many kids the Irish field at home games? try almost 100..some kids barely play. Notre Dame Alum Mike Golic (the guy on ESPN) has two sons who play at ND, and they are said to be BETTER than Papa Golic, but guess what-they haven’t played yet and they’re well into the second season. So yes a kid from Bville could make the roster, but if you are assuming he’ll be like Ogs or any other talent then that might take some time.
Sounds like you’re a hater on the CHSFL because of the fact they have gotten kids into the Pros…where Bernstein could have but he fizzled out.
Is Sleepy Hollow playing tonite for Saturday? IT would make sense to have it on Saturday…you know b/c of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow/Halloween, etc…the town goes all out and supports/embraces the legend of The Headless Horsemen and the tale by Washington Irving-he wrote the story in case some of you didn’t know that.
Rye is playing a team tonight that has 2 D1A signings, more than iona and stepinac. How is that possible? iona and stepinac are the only temas that have the talent around here- hahahaha
Too Much Time on Hands…yeah u do have too much time on your hands, that was a ridiculous post that i got nothing out of but thank u for that…and GMAN there may be a lot more than i think but lets be realistic the kid plays in Class C and doesnt even open eyes on film…im sure hes a great athlete and could be a very good D3 player but looks from ND? come on…anyways best of luck to him and the broncos they are having one hell of a year
That kids not even bronxville’s best player, they got a 6’6 270 pound junior who has rumored to have already been asked to commit to rutgers and a 6’6 200 pound reciever who is gettin big time looks too, not to mention that murray kid who will be starting in the ivy league one day
i never blog but this little comment bothers me…”im sure hes a great athlete and could be a very good D3 player but looks from ND? come on…”. DIVISION III FOOTBALL IS NO JOKE…IONA, SIENNA, MARIST, Southern Conn. (D2) all these Division 1aa teams lose to Division III programs like ROWAN, MONTCLAIR etc. Mount Union would come and run over any New York Division 1aa football team, and give Syracuse a run. So please don’t say he can play division III as if it were a walk in the park. Plenty of talent in Division III.
and as you can see Sienna and Iona canned there programs, that’s how bad they were
WHIIPPY P, take it easy buddy…i didnt say there was no talent in D3 but if ur gonna tell me D3 and ND isnt two totally different levels than u should probably stop watching football for the rest of ur entire life…but once again…best of luck to this kid in the future and best of luck to the Broncos they’ve made a good run finish it out strong
whaddyaknow,
How do you find a way to make an anti-Stepinac/Iona comment?
Pok has a lot of talent, thats a good thing. I see no way to make that a negative. You’ve never read a comment from me saying there was no talent in Section 1.
and Appalaichin State is no Michigan?
i’m gonna go watch hockey now, thank you for making me realize i know nothing about the game, your a sweetheart.
WHIIPITY WOO WAH HA is sour.
i don’t get that though?
