    Should be great live

  2. GMAN

    YES!

  3. 10801

which game will be broadcast tomorrow?

  4. 10801

    nm thanks

  5. Just a Fan

RYE GAME WILL MIRROR THE ROOSEVELT GAME…RYE 42- PK 21
PK WON’T BE ABLE TO STOP RYE OFF, ESPECIALLY ECK

  6. scary

just watching Rye – Pok game, and Rye seems to be moving the ball very easily. Interesting considering all of those D1 players on Pok’s defense.

  7. Rileygirl

Rye is a very strong team. PK seems to be getting a lot of calls as well. That TD pass was sick. PK does have some very good individual players, however, they are not all D1 and Rye is smart/good enough to attack the weak links. I dont understand the onsides kick. No need for it

  8. rye til the end

Pok only has 1 d1 player so far Frank (uconn) and one maybe d1 in Simpkins , A great team will always beat a team the relies on a few players

  9. scary

phantom pass interference kept Pk drive alive.

  10. update

    what is the score??

  11. scary

Rye 17 Pk 0 at the half.

  12. whaddyaknow?

rye looking very strong. POK relies on more than there d1 talent- they beat a good somers team. but the fact that they have those d1A players really shoots holes in the arguments chsfl fans have been making all year that section1 doesnt have or play any d1 talent…simply not the case

  13. Power House

I’m just wondering how many people on here pretend or conveniently forgot about how they used to say Rye couldn’t compete in class A.

  14. fact

then rye should have been in “A” a long time ago. instead of ruining a lot of other small school team’s chances?

  15. HSFB Guy

your still making that point…beating the dead horse really gets old. SOME of the CHSFL fans said Section I had no talent, the others said to not DISS the CHSFL because they have great talent and good teams and tough schedules. You simply forget that portion of the argument.

I dont know, maybe it has to do with religion, because a league of all Catholics is arguing a league of any religion at all-right there people get defensive and try to point out Catholicism as like a disease or something.

So POK has d1 talent…good for them..you know ncaa, njcaa, uscaa, naia talent can come from public, catholic, jewish, hindu, islam, private, boarding, military, correctional schools…even the pros come from various schools…

so go cheer rye, pok, somers, white plains and your 9 game limits…let Stepinac play its final regular season game (number 8), good lord knows the fate of playoffs (3 games including the finals) and then the turkey bowl against white plains (that’s a good 12 games right there). And let Iona finish off its season, while it may not be the Patriots of a few years back, at least the kids are having fun and that’s what its all about.

  16. scary

I don’t think they are having too much fun at 2 – 6.
I agree with the 9 game limits being bull.
    Rye looks awesome.

  17. Just a Fan

HOW FAR WAS THE FIELD GOAL RIGHT BEFORE HALF? I MISSED IT…WAS IT A 40 YARDER??

  18. scary

42 or 43 yards. Their kicker is very strong.

  19. Just a Fan

    Power House-

Your comments are spot on. Funny how they all forget. Next weeks match will be a joke for Rye. This was the tough game. Rye the team who couldn’t play with the big boys in Class A will now be representing Class A in the state tourney.

  20. Power House

    That Rye O’Line is amazing!!!

  21. Power House

Talk about Three Yards and a cloud of DUST!!! Rye gets 5 yards!!!

  22. Power House

The Rye Offense chomps the yards down like Pac-Man

  23. ex husky

What did Castellano get tossed for?It was probably a bad call from 1 of DeMatteos ref buddies

  24. ex husky

Or what do they call it …A homer call

  25. ex husky

What did Castellano get tossed for?Wouldn’t be a bit surprised it it was a homer call from 1 of donny’s ref buddies

  26. scary

Another pass interference call against Rye…? Penalty calls overwhelmingly against Rye. 20-7 in the 4th.

  27. Power House

Rye’s best Pass defense against PK is based on their D-line pressure.

  28. rye til the end

that because it was a pass interference dont make excuses for rye’s mistakes will be ok

  29. oldnintheway

And yet another pass interference call against Rye. This one was justified; Rye defender had a hold of him or it woulda been 6.

  30. Power House

PK is within reach and they can score fast. Can Rye drain the clock?

  31. A HS FAN

Yeah well Rye hasn’t looked that great in the 4th

  32. scary

Yet ANOTHER pass interference called on Rye. Phantom call.Officials costing Rye the game. Too bad.

  33. Power House

    wow what a game

  34. A HS FAN

Umm is it just me who is thinking this but did Pok really think that was going to work?

  35. oldnintheway

It would have worked if they could have run it before Rye took a time out to counter it. After that, PO should have just kicked the point.

  36. Power House

why didn’t dino Garr punt it? I dunno lets just see the outcome

  37. Power House

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  38. oldnintheway

Poughkeepsie just won this game in unbelievable fashion, with a perfectly executed long pass on the last play of the game. Congratulations Pioneers.

  39. WOW

THAT WAS AMAZING. PK DESERVES THAT WIN.

  40. 10801

    UN BELIEVABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RYE IS OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    RYE IS ELIMINATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. Power House

    PK WINS!!!!!

  42. HSFB Guy

yeah the live feed actually showed that…the way everyone acted it looked like it was incomplete or something..but nice finish

  43. HSFB Guy

Thats why you dont do the “number 1” chant until AFTER the game and you get the official WIN…hahahaha

  44. UNREAL

I cannot believe the end of that rye POK game. WOW WOW WOW.
are you kidding me? MSG better air that. 2 4th and long td’s! and one as time expires on 4th???? hats of to POK, holy crap. rye is a great team. so is POK, and i guess somers is too. OMG

  45. unbelievable

i cant get over that. fairy tale ending for pk. can not believe rye is eliminated. very nice job pk

  46. UNREAL

never seen anything like that in 40 years

  47. Power House

HOLY COW THIS IS AN AMZING YEAR!!!!!

  48. 10801

graham might be short but he is the real deal.

WHY IS RYE NOT IN PREVENT DEFENSE??????????

  49. scary

Rye loses on the last play of the game. Wow, talk about your all time meltdowns – Rye up 17-0 at the half, completely fell apart in the second half. Granted, the officials did not help (interesting to see the penalty comparison), but you can’t score 3 points in the second half and expect to win.

  50. UNREAL

i have never seen anything like that in 40 years

  51. Relax

Dino maybe you should have punted!

  52. rye til the end

wht thenhell was dino doing why didnt he punt punt punt punt!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  53. bigworm

    good fight rye.
    pk movin on in fashion.

  54. UNREAL

rye lost fair and square. wanted to see rye in the playoffs, now POK is the team to root for i guess, they just knocked off a powerhouse program

  55. Power House

Your right!!!! Somers Really was good!!!

  56. LetsBeHonest

I called it guys. Don’t sleep on this team, I said in pre season to watch out for them, many had there doubts, but I guess after the past 4 weeks you’ve seen what this team is about.

  57. bigworm

    relax,
    agreed.

  58. lll

Incredible. That just tops off one crazy football season. What will happen next?

  59. scary

Rye fans, what was that play they ran on fourth down, some kind of rollout?

  60. Power House

I was just laughing at my posts take a look

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  61. Huskie Fever

During the Rye Harrison game up 7-0 Deano went for the first down leading only 7-0 from the 50. Joe Lombardi asked him about why he did it on MSG and he said ‘Well…it worked.’ Tonight it didn’t work Deano!!! You just don’t do that.

  62. chochy

    Rye cant handle class A.

Just like in lacrosse they better stay B.

    Can you say overated

  63. Riverindian

    Congrats to Pok.
What did Cas do to get ejected?
    Ossining 21 Fox Lane 7.

  64. UNREAL

nice try chochy. nothing overrated about that rye team.

  65. LetsBeHonest

Chochy, how could you say that? Rye was one play from moving on, they clearly can handle it. The difference was the heart in those players. Whoever had more heart would come out for the win.

  66. Harrison

Wow! Can’t believe that game. Really thought Rye was going to win. Hats off to POK. Congrats to both teams on a great season.

  67. Just a Fan

Can one of you dopes give us a little play by play at the end? Where is the ball? How much time on the clock? 4ht and how many yards? Did PK have any timeouts? How many yards was the TD? Something except for WOW WOW WOW. Based on time of posts I am guessing there was 2:15 in the game and ball around midfield? If that is the case that is a terrible job by Dino of not punting.

  68. 10801

i don’t mean to insult dino garr at all, but i think he must have gotten a little cocky with how good his rye teams have been. That call on 4th down was baffling, and then not playing prevent defense on the last play of the game?? very very strange

  69. Power House

Guys I cant even take in the web of defeats this year. Looks like everyone beat everyone this year!!!!

  70. sargvra

Rye cant handle class A? Well i guess all the teams they spanked, and every other team in class A besides POK, cant handle class A either. Get a life.

  71. Riverindian

    CHOCHY,
Rye was not overated your a choke.

  72. Power House

Rye hadled Class A well but one thing we can conclude…. Class A is sronger than B because this Rye team would have walked through B

  73. Go eagles

Garr really blew that one. The second to last score came after a short punt caused by Rye lining up to go for it, snapping to Eck, who lateralled it to the punter. Just friggin line up and punt it. Only about a 15 yearder game POK decent position. Then not punting at midfield. crazy

  74. Harrison

Final play was on the 49 with 4th and 10 8 seconds on the clock.

  75. fan from the north

Looks like the south league was only tough for the teams in it. They talked a lot of trash about the North and Central leagues playing no one but the North and Central seem to be doing pretty well.
    Go Po!!!

  76. oldnintheway

    Cochy

    you are an unmitigated jerk.

  77. Power House

So let me get this streight. PK beat Somers who was undefeated and we all said Somers was a bunch of pretenders yet they were eliminated by a team that may likely become section champions. Just like last years undefeated somers team lost to he eventual section champions.

Rye lost to Eastchester. Eastchester lost to Roosevelt and Harrison. correct?

Fox lane beat up PK and was shut out by lakeland??

Ossining was beat up by Roosevelt and RYE but beat Fox lane….

and so forth and so forth…...

Class A is the most exciting class in section 1…... in turn, section 1 class A is one of the most exciting in the state.

  78. UNREAL

yeah this proves how superior A is to B. That game obviously coul have gone either way. Rye looked so good, shame they blew it, but gotta give POK props. Unreal finish, what HS games are all about. A lot of good teams got knocked out. Rye was matching up size and speed too. WOW.

  79. Nyack Guy

For those who wanted to know what happened…

Rye was winning 17-0 at the half. Really dominating.

Pk scored to make it 17-7 on a long TD pass.

Rye had a first and goal on the 2 in the third, but PK had a great goal line stand and held Rye to a field goal. 20-7 Rye.

PK Scored a TD with about three minutes left and screwed up the extra point.

    20-13 Rye.

Onsides kick by PK recovered by Rye even though it looked like PK got it….

PK Holds rye three and ouyt..and Rye punts.

PK gets the ball with about 240 left and completes at least 1 forth and 10.

then the refs give them a pass interference call on a second 4th and 10.

Then on a 4th and 10 at the Rye 20, PK gets a third Pass interference call for them, and has a first and goal on the 9.

The QB scrambles and runs in a TD, but they come out in some wacky shotgunn, 5 to the right, a center, and 4 to the right formation for the extra point when all they had to do was run a sweep to #35 ( The fastest player on the field)

They dont get the 2 point conversion, and PK tried an onside kick.

On 4th down on the PK 49, Dion Garr for some reason decides not to punt, and go for it. His QB is dragged down for no gain and PH takes over at midfield with no time outs left.

On 4th and 10 again, The QB completes a short pass (20 Yards) and the runner makes a few people miss and runs down the side line for a touchdown with no time left on the clock!!!!

    CRazy!!!

BTW..On that play, the guy who caught the TD pass, got a running start out of the backfield and should have been called for illegal motion! The refs let it go like they did all night.

Dino was going crazy about it on his sideline, but the refs never wanted to call it.

Dino screwed up by not punting…dont know what he was thinking…

    Unreal ending…

PK has a lot of talent and speed.

Rye blew it, but I think refs helped a bit too.

  80. Relax

    Kevin,

When was the last time Rye lost two games in one season!

  81. Power House

Rye secondary isn’t used to defending that kind of speed and that much pass attempts. When they were beat they grabbed for dear life…. Pass interference….. simple as that…. better a Pass interference than a TD

Referees didn’t help PK any more than Rye did.

    Great Game

  82. 456

#35 from POK has ridiculous speed. Probably in the 4.4 range.

  83. qasmack

Just came back from the game. The pass interference call on 4th down when it was 20-13 looked like a horrible call. Will wait to see the replay on MSG varsity. Bottom line is RYE blew it. How can you not put it from your own 40 on 4th down? And he didn’t even go for the first. A QB roll out with a QB who is not quick. Everyone in the stands where I was with 8 seconds left even said on the last play, why are there no deep safties? The QB couldn’t throw it more than 30 yds.

  84. 10960

Amazing!!! I can see how Rye can let a few passes up after seeing them this season.

I’m confused as to what Happened to their offense

Wow, this season is so unpredictable

  85. MDALE

CANT BELIEVE RYE LOST! Very upset…I wanted a Rye vs Roosevelt rematch! Then again I just want Roosevelt to kill Lakeland to get to the Championship. Roosevelt will hold down the South tomorrow!

  86. 456

Hes also very humble. I mean, you just caught the winning TD pass to beat the Rye Garnets on the last play of the game in a huge playoff game in front of 2500 people. Most kids would be uncontrollable jumping up and down. He just walks over to his team mates as they mob him. Same thing on his first TD catch. handed the ball to the ref, wlaks towards the sidelines.

  87. Just a fact

I turned the game off at half with the feeling of I will be sick if POK comes back. And I was right. I am sick.

    Congrats to POK.

I am confused how Rye could lose a game to a team they seemed to dominate in the first half. Oh well.

  88. LetsBeHonest

That Poughkeepsie team is a class act, at the end of the game some of them go out there to give the Rye players hugs and shake there hands.

  89. Just a fact

    Power house,

“Rye hadled Class A well but one thing we can conclude…. Class A is sronger than B because this Rye team would have walked through B”

    Agreed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  90. qasmack

Having now seen Roosevelt and POK, that would be an intersting game (if Roosevelt wins tomorrow ofcourse). They run similar offense. Roosevelt is much better at the skill position, even with 35 from POK, but POK line is much better.

  91. 10960

Hey none of the traditional power programs will be in the section final. No Nyack, No Ossining, No Harrison, No Rye….. Kaboom.

Imagine Lakeland wins it all!!! I’ll Vomit

  92. Huskies Forever

Wow,one of the greatest come from behind wins I’ve ever seen.PK dominated the 4th quarter with heart & hunger that was just unreal.Congrats to a team that was on a mission.Good luck in the finals…....

  93. geranium 2

The refs lost the game for Rye. They handed it to PK. The refs were definitely racist. How do we get rid of them?

  94. geranium 2

Is there a way to cast a formal complaint?

  95. Dazed & Confused

was the scene on & off the field when the clock ran out.

  96. jim

This had to be one of the greatest all-time playoff game in Section 1 history. Rye really did dominate for the first 3 1/2 quarters. Some of the interference calls were totally legit. Some were at best questionable. There were also several holding calls against Rye which halted many drives. I don’t know why Rye didn’t punt either. Maybe the coaching staff thought that a punt was more likely to be blocked than a 55 yd. drive in 19 seconds. I will say this. Things just didn’t go Rye’s way tonight and they lost. I have never seen a team with more heart and determination than Poughkeepsie and they walked off the field tonight with a great great victory. Even when they missed the 2 point conversion and Rye recovered the onside kick, their sideline was rocking and filled with hope and energy. Good things happen to teams that don’t quit and work hard and even though my heart is garnet and black….i had to feel good for the Poughkeepsie kids tonight. I also want to add that Poughkeepsie demonstrated the best sportsmanship I saw all year during and after the game. ...a team of gentlemen with a classy coach. As for Rye…you guys are the greatest. I know it’s a tough way for the seniors to bow out, but you lost a tough game that people will be talking about for years. You won a league title and beat Harrison this season after being NYS champs the last two. No one in the stands will ever think of you as losers….only as big time winners on and off the field. Good luck next week Poughkeepsie

  97. HSFB Guy

That’s how high school football should be..the programs with tradition and history DONT always win…the newer, younger, or less established teams-even the ones that have been for years but never surpassed anything this caliber-deserve the chance to be in playoffs and a shot at the section crown.

Could have figured A would be so amazing…alot of teams are in the class dont forget, four divisions of teams…

    and racial refs? child pleaseeee…

  98. Maloney

Did someone this week brag about how great a coordinator Maloney was??? Did he ever here of a prevent defense. In high school football it doesn’t “prevent you from winning when it’s fourth down and 40 to win the game. Rye coaches were outcoached in the second half.

  99. Jeff P.

Well, 10960, this could be the beginning of a paradigm shift in Section 1… Poughkeepsie has actually been building its football program from the ground up (i.e., its growing Pop Warner program). It looks like it’s all starting to pay dividends…

Still, I cannot believe the outcome. I was just hoping for a good showing when PK went down 17-0 at the half, and boy did the Pioneers ever come through. Beating a team of Rye’s caliber on its home field is no small feat. Congrats to the Garnets for making PK earn its victory…

Tomorrow, it’s Arlington’s turn to continue the emergence of Dutchess County football…

  100. Glorious

Was at the game and I couldn’t beleive my eyes. The non punt on 4th down by Rye was by far the biggest mistake of the game. Make them travel 80 yards to score. It looked like a qb sprint out keep. I was baffled becuase I didn’t know that Eck was a speed demon. The defensive end brought him down for a 5 yard loss with ease. They were also double teaming #35 all night when he was split out and on the last play he wheeled out and nobody decided to go with him. He made every big catch, and he scored two long runs out of the wildcat formation. I would have been in that kids back pocket all game!

    UNBELIEVABLE!

  101. geranium 2

There fans were not so classy in the parking lot.

  102. Big Fan

Great game on both sides. Outstanding finish! Reminds me of the New Ro, beat Roosevelt with last seconds on clock and New Ro with no time outs. Proudian kicks it through.

Congratulations to Rye for an outstanding season in A and best of luck to PK in the finals.

  103. jim

Isn’t it great that you can come on here and call out Tommy Maloney. Rye just completed a decade where they went 97-13. As a long time Rye fan, I would like to salute both Tommy and Dino Garr and thank them for all of these great victories….three state championships…six straight section 1 titles…Wow! We will never have another pair like them again and I can’t believe anyone who follows Rye could be critical of either one…disagree once in awhile? Maybe, but maybe tonight would be a good night to appreciate all the past success NOT kick them when they are down.

  104. Shell Shocked

After watching what will go down as one of biggest upsets in Rye Football history, you have to give credit to the determination that was displayed by Pk.Explosive offensive play came alive in the fourth quarter,in which Rye had no answer.Class A is tough road to hoe.The end of an era.

  105. Wow

    Rye,

If you have watched Dino over the years you know he loves going for it on 4th down. It doesn’t mater what the situation is… On his own 35, early in game, trying to close games. Something I am sure most of you have shaken your head at from time to time. But in the end it has worked for him in most if not all cases up to this point. (I guess with 65+ Wins vs Section 1 it was all cases and not most). But this is something that will keep him up for days. I know a couple years ago vs Sleep Hollow in Mahopac their long center was hurt and their backup would snap to Eck then toss back to Rahmalo to punt (A couple were blocked. Please tell me this was the same case. There is no other reason for him not punting in that spot. 28 seconds at the 46, I am sure the punter can’t even kick the ball 46 yards so you had no chance of a touch back. Most likely if he kicks it out the ball is between the 10 & 20 yard line. Dino do you really think they are going 80 yards in 28 seconds. You gave them 25 to 35 yards! Bad to see the kids didn’t lose the game but the coaching staff lost it for them. Not to see Dino hasn’t with his coaches added 100’s of wins but its always the loses we remember. The Red and Black will possible never forget this game!

  106. NyackFan

Congratulations to PK for their win, and to Rye for fighting hard to the end!

Not to rain on the more important and exciting story of the day, but as a NyackFan I shall make some brief comments about tonight in Somers.

I jokingly predicted we would be shutout. I was very surprised it happened. An excellent defensive showing by Somers on a day when both Donald Davis and Ray Nichols were injured. Ray played some snaps.

Coach Cass was thrown out for confronting the ref on the Nyack side of the field who was talking down to his players. Coach was defending his players and refused to have them insulted by a ref. I think I got that right, if not someone can correct me.

But all in all, it was a disappointing season for the Indians. An oldtimer whose been around a lot longer than I was frustrated and perhaps overstated the case in claiming that “this is the worst Nyack team in 10 to 12 years!” Well, I’m not sure I agree, seeing our boys tried so hard and their effort was worth some congratulations, but it did not turn out the way we had hoped after last season.

It was sad to see some of our seniors go out the way they did after being so close last year. Not sure which is worse, losing after being so close, or being shut out (really, humiliated in some ways) in your last high school game in front of a small group of forty diehard Nyack-Fans along with the cheerleaders and pep band who were there to support as best we could in a meaningless game except to play with pride. I admired the way our boys tried to rally their spirits after Cass was tossed, but to no avail.

The O-Line comes back, along with some of the backs including Davis. QB will be the question mark. Sad to see Ray-Ray go out as injured goods not being able to give his all to the team. But such is life, you pick yourself, dust yourself off, and start all over again.

  107. NyackFan

Whoops. I mean, “You pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again.”

BTW Got pizza afterwards at Farelli’s in Somers. Was OK New York Pizza. Some Somers cheerleaders and parents were there.

    Happy Halloween everybody!

  108. The Nyack

    Jim,

You see thats the problem, Nobody appreciates the past success of Rye because the competition level wasnt impressive. Kudos to Rye for a win over Chenango Forks in the dome, dont get me wrong. It usually takes up until the dome to meet someone on their own level.

Upper classes in New York State have gotten more competitive. Class B is still under developed throughout the state. If You can come out of a metro area such as section 1 class B…. your chances of getting to the dome are pretty good. In South East New York State Class B bracket, the road to the dome goes through section 1. Rye had it made.

At the end of the day….. when we all look back….. Rye came to class A and the domination ended. Class A slowly but surely breaks down any class B power…. Look at Harrison! Im not throwing school size theory on you but rather the combination of more traditional speed schools and perhaps better coaching competition.

Here in class A we don’t recognize your B championships. It gets ignored and win a chip that matters…. this is NYS and that means A and AA period.

  109. ...

    The Nyack….

Dont be ridiculous alot of those Rye teams would have won A easily over this span

  110. The Nyack

    ....

    yea really?

I bet you thought they had it won this year too.

I wont lie, I sure did.

Would those Rye teams have won class A over those years? Maybe they would have. I believe Rye would have been a Class A elite those years but you cant say they would have taken it all the way they did in class B. They would have met teams on their level along the way to the dome in class A instead of simply having a cake ride to one competitive game in class B.

So would they have won class A EASILY!!! I highly doubt that. I bet you wish the past Rye teams could play this year to prove me wrong…. Just as I can wish the past Nyack teams were around as well.

I cant deny how good Rye is but I can say that, they had it made. Rye just completed a decade where they went 97-13!!! What do you think Nyack would have done in class B during this decade? Im sure we would have defeated the Chenango Forks teams that used to be Dino Garrs Kryptonite.

Ossining has had some good teams and lets not forget that sections 4, 5, and 6 has had some tough teams in the dome. Section 2 has always brought out solid class A teams.

Accept it or dont accept it but Rye had it made!!!

  111. Mister Fist

Here Rye is about to be in the sectional championship game for A, most likely against a Roosevelt team they have already beat putting up 49 points in the process, and finally quieting all these naysayers. Enter the perfect storm. So many things went wrong that second half I wouldn’t know where to begin. Very tough way to go out for these kids.

Hats off to Poughkeepsie, they had some tough dudes and they NEVER gave up. Rye seniors…what a great group of young men, several of whom will go on to play big time college sports and all of whom will go on to be solid men.

As for Rye being able to handle A, I think Rye’s opponents can testify to that. They made the semis their first year in A and lost a heart breaker. Next year they will be aiming much higher than that, because although they lose some studs to graduation, they return a HUGE amount of talent. I don’t think any team in the section will want to see them on their schedule as their crossover game.

Good luck to Poughkeepsie and Roosevelt/Lakeland.

I think DeMatteo was a little shroud. His words were motivational to Poughkeepsies effort.

  113. Just a Fan

wow…I just watched the replay. He really left really early. But why does have 3 LB’s within 5 yards of the Line of scrimmage. They should all be 20 yards back. The PK guy left early and the LB was actually trying to jam him at the line of scrimmage.. Can you tell me why with a 4th and 10 why his was trying to jam him. he didn’t even get a hand on him. I guess it helped cause he left early.

    Poer House:

I totally agree with your observation that PO may have had more overall speed on the field than Rye could handle. While not all those pass interference penalties seemed legit, a few were the result of Rye defenders having a tough time keeping up with the receivers. It looked like one of the reasons that last play worked was because they had to cover so many speedy players all over the field, and the underneath throw was tougher to defend. I’ve never seen a finish to a high school game like that. All the props in the world to PO, but I feel pretty bad for Rye.

    The Nyack:

When Harrison entered Class A, their first three years resulted in 3 appearances in the Class A final and 2 Section championships. And they lost to class B Rye in 2 of those years, while not losing a Section 1 Class A game in 2 years. Moving up in class doesn’t break down anybody. Cyclical talent is what affects performance. Did you guys ever think a Nyack team would lose 49-0 to Harrison? And the same is certainly possible the other way around some day.

  116. Lion

Nyack’s 49-0 loss to Harrison of 3 years should be a discussion for another blog. The story today is POK’s incredible win. But, all I can say about the 49-0 game is that it was a sophomore dominated Nyack team that 2 years later was section champs, including a playoff win against Harrison.

Great season Rye. Glad you are in Class A now. There is no doubt your peior teams would have had great class A success too, and you’ll be favored going into next year, but, there are teams in the league that will beat you, if your off your game, even a little sometimes.

    Congratulations POK.

    Lion:

My comments were in response to The Nyack, but that said, you are certainly right. Last night was about a Poughkeepsie team that was talented enough and had all the fight in the world in them. They deserved it.

  118. the game

i was sitting in the rye stands and i could not believe the crying about the refs all game long! sounds interesting when rye looses it’s the offical fault not the coaches a great run has come to an end welcome to class a were on any given saturday expect anything to happen!

I would have to say just watched the game and pk is doing what they do best, and that’s play defense and be good sportsman. It was a great game by booth teams. I was a 01 graduate of Poughkeepsie and I believe then that rye was either a D or class C team. And to see them now is great. Poughkeepsie back then was class A and that’s when NYACK was the power house. The best game was Poughkeepsie 02 class against Nyack. The great overtime thriller and this was another great game. To clarify on some of the things believe it or not Poughkeepsie as stated has 1 D1 player, most of Poughkeepsie kids don’t play football after the graduate high school the go on to dutchess community college which has no football program at all. Maybe 1 or 2 kids play football in college. Another is Poughkeepsie played in Double A for since 04 I believe and then came back down to A. they only play in the higher classes because of talent because their enrollment is only 1200-1300 students if that. The school is very small.

But to be very honest the Poughkeepsie by far should be the best football program in the section let alone the state. I mean I know there are other football programs that are good but if you take a look at the pop warner football program which some one stated was being built up. That program is a powerhouse. It has been built since I played started playing in 4th grade. Anyone the plays against the Poughkeepsie cardinals pop warner, which is now the pk pioneers for the jr midget and midget classes knows they are good. to be honest the whole program normally only losses about 5 games total and they have about 10 teams from flag all the way up. One year they had 2 pee wee teams and both went undefeated, 1 in the ny division and 1 had to play in the nj division. Then they had to play each other to move on (about 2 years ago). So when you have that much talent it’s sad that the high school football program is this bad.

The high school coach and the pop warner coaches don’t get along. The pop warner coaches aren’t allowed to talk to the high school players at all. This is why the high school teams are not good, because there is no unity. It should be one program and this is why the jr midget and midget teams changed the name to the pioneers, so there is a smooth transition but the high school coaches don’t want to deal with the best coaches let alone one of the best pop warner teams in the state. All these players were made stars by the pop warner coaches before the high school coaches. In Poughkeepsie we are expected to win games, losing isn’t an option and comes as a shock especially at the pop warner level.

Its almost time that now out of respect the high school change their name to the Poughkeepsie CARDNIALS, just like the pop warner team is.

oh yeah and would have to say that, rye being in a lower class meant nothing back then. Had they been in A they could of competed and prob Won the section. the talent they they show is great. All you need is 18 or 21 (which ever it is) to field a team and your in game. Also would have to say the same with DOBBS FERRY. even though they have nothing to do with this convo had to add that powerhouse in this convo. I believe they would win at any level they played at.

  121. Jax

when I played VCI, we always beat poughkeepsie (Valley Cottage Indians)

  122. footballman

yes your right, your team was the hump we could never get over. very good nyack team back then.

  123. Rye High Man

It just simply wasnt meant to be for rye. If it was meant to be then the officials would have gotten it right. Everyone go back and watch the last play of the game, forget the terrible pass interference calls. Just watch the last play of the game, the officials should of thrown the flag for an offsides call by Poukheepsie. I dont want to sit here and gloat about that, the point im trying to make is that you win some you lose some, and this season was just not meant to be for Rye. Rye will be back, and yes it hurts right now but they need to really have a gut check right now. Eck needs to sit down his seniors, and make a commitment that this won’t happen again, because this season was hard to swallow. Sometimes you have to realize that, seasons and teams are ones made up of destiny and fate, and the man up above for some reason didn’t want this team to do it. Rye played well enough to win, it just simply wasn’t in our deck of cards. That’s the way i look at it atleast.

  124. stung

Rye will never win A.. go back to play the sisters of the poor and A was way down this year!
