Week 8 Picks
-
- October
- 29
Here are my picks for this weekend, playoff and non-playoffs:
Class AA
New Rochelle 35, White Plains 13: Having watched the first New Rochelle-White Plains game three weeks, I can’t see this one being much of a contest. New Rochelle is just too good. The Tigers caught a lot of breaks in the first three quarters the last time and still lost the game 28-7. New Rochelle is due for things to break its way and will take full advantage.
Arlington 21, North Rockland 17: As superb as the North Rockland has been defensively this season, the Admirals have come too far to get knocked off now. They avenged their only loss by rallying to beat Carmel, a game that proved they have the mental toughness to compete with the elite. The Red Raiders skated by last week after a slow start. Arlington won’t let them do it again.
Class A
Rye 34, Poughkeepsie 21: This might be a little too high scoring, especially since it’s allowed 16 points in its last four games. The Garnets, though, will likely combat Poughkeepsie’s aggressive defense front by going for quick passes. Look for Connor Eck to connect with Brian Pickup and Jack O’Callaghan for a few big plays, and for Cole McCormack to wear down the Pioneers.
Roosevelt 32, Lakeland 20: Again, that’s a lot of points for a playoff game, especially one played on a dirt field in the rain. Although Lakeland shut down Fox Lane’s potent offense last week, the Hornets haven’t seen a team with nearly the speed and versatility as Roosevelt. The Indians will get out in space and run their way into the championship.
Class B
Nanuet 28, Kennedy 14: The Gaels might be the only team in the conference that can physically match up with Nanuet. As I said on tonight’s VC Chat, the Golden Knights deal a physical beating on everyone they play. Kennedy will hang in there. But I don’t see the depth needed to beat this Nanuet team.
Pleasantville 27, Sleepy Hollow 20: Yes, I know I picked Sleepy before the postseason began. But the combination of Pleasantville soaring past Loudes and Sleepy slipping past Irvington changed my mind. Don’t be shocked if the Horsemen find a way. But the lack of consistency is alarming.
Class C
Bronxville 28, Hastings 20: As long as Luke D’Allesandro is healthy and able to play, the Yellow Jackets will hang around in this game. Hastings is unlike any team Bronxville has faced and matches up its size well enough not to get pushed around. All the pressure is on Bronxville.
Croton-Harmon 28, Dobbs Ferry 22: Expect a closer game than you might think. Dobbs Ferry, behind fullback Devonte Brailsford, is on a roll after gaining confidence the last three weeks. Croton, too, has found a good rhythm offensively as Tyler Dorien has caught fire. The Tigers’ size and depth will be the difference.
Non-playoff games
Edgemont 28, Ardsley 12
Beacon 14, Tappan Zee 13
Valhalla 21, Woodlands 6
Somers 24, Nyack 13

KLHT 42, Rye Country Day 20
Sacred Heart 28, South Kent 7

I come from a time and place where all World Series games were played during the daytime in early October. The teacher (always a nun in my case) would pick one nerdy kid to listen to the game with an ear plug and keep everyone posted. From 1949 through 1964, with the exception of 1954 and 1959…it was always the Yankees playing….and as soon as school was over, everyone literally sprinted home to catch the last few innings on their round screen B&W TV set.
I can’t believe that the bulk of the HS football season will now be over before the World Series is. In the old days the HS season would just be unfolding, and everyone would be talking up the end of season arch rivalry games that barely exist today. Most of those games were played during the third week in November through Thanksgiving. With that in mind here are some playoff picks…
AA New Rochelle 20-7, North Rockland 14-13
A Rye 21-6, Roosevelt 40-21
B Nanuet 27-0, P’ville 21-14
C Bronxville 28-7, Dobbs 15-14
Some other Class A picks:
Harrison 35-13
Somers 21-18
Eastchester 20-7
Jim
Those memories are very familiar to me also. One thing though, I think we often wondered how our local teams ( Port Chester, White Plains for me…Harrison/Rye for you) would measure up against teams from upstate and elsewhere….No?
Kevin
Rye/POK and NR /Wht Plains are the best A&AA match-ups for me. I agree with you as far as the winners, but don’t see either game being that high scoring…especially Rye
Rye 24 Pok 13
New Rochelle 24 Wht Plains 8
Roosevelt 39 Lkl 27
North R 21 Arlington 15
Sleppy 27 Pleastville 21
Thy love for the Dematteo’s shall blow up in thy face this weekend!
North Rock’s Sulla train, and now the William’s locomotive going to steam roll!
I don’t agree with the Arlington,N Rockland pick at all.I believe it will be close but N Rockland will lead this one.Arlington beat Carmel on a wing and a prayer last week and I don’t see that luck coming to them again.Sorry Arlington but I believe your time is up.For a team that said Carmel only won in the reg season against them because they were missing key players didnt really prove that by a 4 point lead.
Every week I read how Bronxville has to worry about one thing or another and I guess that’s true since any team can win at this point. Guess that means Hastings has nothing to worry about; just ask the other 7 teams Bronxville has played. Sure, Bronxville has not seen a team like Hastings but Hastings has not seen a team like Bronxville either.
bronxville is gonna beat hastings there is no question but bronxville and croton is gonna be a war. expect the defendin champs to come out on fire like they did when they played westlake… STRENGTH AND HONOR BOYS
Kevin had made a comment earlier on this blog concerning defensive coordinators and game time adjustments and I agree that Tom Maloney is among the best I have seen on the HS level.
Rye will stunt, change looks and contain the POK speed.
With good weather both temas will be operating at maximum offensive efficiency, which I see as the difference in the game.
Rye will be conservative, grind out long drives, and win 21-6.
bronxville will spank hastings…they are too big and they are faster, smater and stonger than hastings. rye is on a roll (no pun intended), they will out execute pok and win by 2 td’s. if lakeland gets ahead of roosevelt early rossevelts wheels will come off and lakeland wins.
I have to agree with Jim…what a mess that section 1 has made of this football season by taking away 1 game. For the majority of the teams the season is over on Saturday with only 8 games. What a joke that the majority of the section 1 teams could not be playing in November. It is such a contrast has to a few years ago when section 1 was playing too much football during the playoffs and trying to get 3 games in 2 weeks. When will they get it right for the kids!!??
Does anyone know if Storino is going to be back in Rye’s lineup this weekend????
Is that the same d coordinator that said he was going to kill eastchester?
rye fan:
Saw TJ working out earlier this week at the YMCA. It looks like at least another week before he can practice.
rye needs Storino for this game. Poukepsie is going to come out to hit hard,And rye need to counter that with speed. Storino is a speedster. If rye gets by in this one ill be happy, but they will be pretty banged up For the Section one title game.
looks like the Rye field will be very busy on Friday….
Friday come root for your favorite Garnet team!
Posted Wednesday, October 28, 2009 by Rye Record
The action literally kicks off Friday at Nugent Stadium, when the fourth-seeded (Class A) Rye boys’ soccer team faces the winner of Ardsley/Yonkers at 3 p.m.
Rye’s field hockey team (No. 2 seed) takes the stage immediately after in a Class B duel with visiting Nanuet at 4:30.
Finally, at 7 p.m., the gridiron Garnets go toe-to-toe with Poughkeepsie in the Class A Section semifinals.
I don’t think the P’ville – SH game will be close for several reasons. Compare the difficulty SH had with Irvington to P’Ville’s easy win mostly running the ball on a rainy day. SH hasn’t seen a passing game where 4 or 5 receivers are capable of going all the way. If SH falls behind and reverts to passing, P’Ville has shown an excellent pass defense.
Poughkeepsie is going to be ready against Rye, I suggest rye has a good game plan for the two Division one Linebackers that Poughkeepsie has because they are going to be blitzing all day and banging up McCormack and the other rye backs.
DDM 50- SOME TEAMS WERE REALLY DONE AFTER THE FIFTH WEEK IN DOUBLE AA IF YOU WERE NOT IN PLAYOFFS—UNLESS YOU CONSIDER PLAYING IN A MEANINGLESS BOWL GAME IMPORTANT,,MAKES THE SEASONS GO TOO FAST ..OUR ADMINISTRATORS SHOULD FIGURE OUT OTHER WAYS TOO SAVE MONEY
Bear
Considering a majority of the 40+ section 1 teams do not make the playoffs I wouldn’t think that playing more football would be meaningless, especially for the kids who have been busting their hump all year. Sure the games at the end that are not playoff games are tougher to get up for, but there has to be a way to get them at least 9-10 regular season games.
Three games at Rye Friday? Thank God for FieldTurf…
Oh Kevdog how you disapoint my fresh funk Dragon flow. You actually made my little bro Patrick Ewing cry like a new born infant. He was crying hysterically to his wife Christina Agulera, “WIFEY WHERE BE MY CHOCOLATEY MUFFIN. READ ME MY FAVORITE BOOK, ‘PLAYBOY’”! How can you say that the Nanuet Golden Crispy Chicken Tender will win the Kennedy Donkey Boys. Surely you must understand the ferociousness of Barry “the Gingerbread Fox” Tostito. He has already beaten the world record for most blocked field goals with 3,834. Donkey Boys 12 Crispy Chicken Tender 11 as Tostito breaks his femur in a goose hunt 3 minutes before the game. Cmon Kevman is you for real about the Hastings Shampoo Slicers versing the Bronxville Clarinet Destroyers. The Shampoo Slicers have Garret Rodriguez an enormous factor in all of their wins. He may be such a HUGE FACTOR because he is an elephant. Rodriguez is such a mainstay in that secondary and on that O line. Garret has already demolished 42 players this year. Keep up the good work Rodriguez!!!! Wow Kevy I do believe that the Arlington Curteous Lobsters will win the North Rockland German Toads by at least 79. The Curteous Lobsters have the best coach in the land Miley Cyrus. She knows how to groove
! As I look at this mochary you call predictions I will then watch the movie Rocky III as John Travolta tricks the New Zeland Government that he is their star Basketman player. Meanwhile he is a low level toilet bowl cleaner at the local Olive Garden. After the prime minister finds out he declares that Johnny Boy must eat 8000 cans of tunafish and train a goat how to eat candy bars..Superb film. Glorious and majestic….61 THUMBS UP!!!!
That was probably the most bizarre comment I have ever read
that one actually made more sense then his comments usually do…ahaha
POK can’t have D1 players, I thought only Iona and Stepinac are capable of having D1payers because they play in the CHSFL, the BEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD!
understand wolfhounds point,Pleasantville has to hope that this is not the week when Sleepy puts it all together. The best games they have played have been against best opponents they have faced
hey fan of the game. I guess you forgot Rye has probably the best offensive line in the section with great depth on both sides of the ball.It will be a great game and win for Rye.
Hey 10580 i did not forget that, but it could be forgotten if Rye takes Pougkeepsie for granted like they did against Eastchester. If Rye doesn’t overpower Pougheepie’s Front four and Stud Linebackers then there will be problems over at Nugent Stadium in front of a couple thousand fans. Pougheepsie has athletes, and a growing confidence. They will not be intimitaded walking into Rye.
Whatever that dragon from swiss is smoking, you better pass that sticky icky around the blog my brother!! Shama Lama ding dong! LOL
You forgot to pick Ossining-Fox Lane.
WALTON WARRIORS 07 UNSTOPABABLE

Bronxville to the dome
What happened to IONA??????
fan of the game
Whats your problem. Why so much hostility towards Rye. These boys have been nothing but gentalmen and played their hearts out. Even when they lost to Eastchester they still were compossed. Maybe it’s because you are a failed player or fan. Maybe you should stick to whatever it is that you do and stop wishing ill will on these boys. Grow up.
Speaking as a true Poughkeepsie fan. I’d like to say Rye has garnered and deserved the respect they get. Poughkeepsie knows they have a big task at hand. Pk has high respect for Rye.
Alot of the fans out here talking for PK are not really from there. If you want a true PK fan listen to Jeff P and Statesmen. We are not on here to talk garbage. We didn’t do it all year on the blog and wont do it now. Pk is a talented team and the program is moving back towards the right direction it was for the earlier years of this decade. PK is very good, but Rye is the favorite. But thats why we play the game on the field and not on blogs. Good luck to both teams.
Shot Gun,
Can one poster come on here and support Poughkeepsie. He isn’t bashing Rye. Win or lose, PK will alwys come out, hit hard and play hard. Rye has to prepare for that as well as PK. It sohuld be a crisp, hard hitting game with many studs on the field from both sides. Should be a great one, I know you’re looking forward to it.
Who is Ossining playing?
WORD ON THE STREET IS…...
RYE VS. POUGHKEEPSIE WILL BE AIRED LIVE ON MSG FRIDAY NIGHT!
...it’ll be the game of the week!
Here’s a link to the article
http://hudsonvalleysportsreport.com/default.aspx
pleasantville is soft…they cant run the ball
I REALLY HOPE THIS IS TRUE ABOUT MSG- IF TRUE THAT WOULD BE A HELLUVA GREAT MOVE BY MSG AND A GREAT GAME TO SHOWCASE LOHUD. MSG ALWAYS WANTED TO AIR THE RYE HARRISON GAME, BUT THERE WAS SOME LOGISTICAL ISSUES, AND I AM GLAD IT APPEARS TO BE BEHIND THEM AND WE CAN START GETTING SOME GOOD BALL ON PRIMETIME. CONGRATS POK AND RYE MAKE US PROUD!
KEVIN, I HOPE YOU ARE TALKING TO MIKE QUICK AND GETTING INVOLVED IN THIS ONE, YOU DESERVE IT
Why do People thing Rye would overlook Pough. They will not and they didn’t look past eastchester either. Eastchester beat them fair and square. Rye knows Pough. has great players. You KIDS on the blog are annoying. Its going to be a great game, and if Pough wins they are the better team, not because Rye took then lightly.
Good Luck to both.
This weekend in class a is going to prove that the division that held Rye, Roosevelt, and Eastchester was the best in class a and was unfair to either of the three which didnt make it (in this case is eastchester). Rye and Roosevelt are going to both most likely win this week and Eastchester may make it to the DeMatteo bowl, but proved throughout the season by beating Rye and Poughkeepsie they deserve to be in the playoffs but whoever made the divisions did a terrible job. Especially when Somers played nobody all season long and got a reality check in the first round. Good Luck to all teams left in Class A playoffs.
class A fan,
I would agree with you if Eastchester did not lose to Harrison. I know there was a terrential down pour, and us posting will bring out the Ossining fan’s with their garbage ( they won’ even post under their normal blog names).
But Eastchester does not deserve the playoffs because they could not beat Harrison, and that is end of discussion in my mind. Not that Harrison was awful, but their supporters have admitted to this beign a down year and Eastchester had a healthy Bronner. There was no excuse for #8 from Harrison to look like Tony Dorsett, but man did he ever that day.
Good luck wiht the rest of the season and finish strong, but let this one die!
Stepinac- Hayes game is being shown on MSG Varsity Friday evening at 7:30 & 10:30 in westchester
Im sure it will be on the MSG Varsity Network. The game of the week for the prime time MSG game of the week is a game involving two New Jersey teams. Plus MSG High School weekly the prime time network refuses to do work with rye do to various problems in which Rye has asked for money over the years for them to televise the Rye harrison game at Rye. I would be suprised if it is the MSG Prime Time game. But who knows. Kevin Keep us posted.
Harrison had a young team this year, and they are still proving everyone that these young guns have alot of heart by still winning. Next year, HHS could have 3 super 11. Bonistal,Knox, and Alvora. These three guys, if you havnt noticed play with alot of intensity. Harrison will have alot of weapons next year. I know what you all are going to say is SHUT UP husky thats next year, but im giving these juniors alot of credit and thank you for making this year an UP YEAR. Reminder in 2 years Nocito will be a Super11 and 3 years an MVP ALL STATE. Guys this kid is going to be the real deal..Good Luck to all, Go A-South Represent fellas!
Three super 11 players are you nuts???? All of those players were no where near better than Ciraco and Falasca of 2006 and they never got Super 11. maybe one but three?
Okay,I’ll take 1 out of the 3. But Ciraco was a true athelete just like how his father was. I just cant see P’town beating Rye. Rye is rolling right now. They will be tough to stop, but then again anything can happen, Fox Lane and Somers were victimized! Is that a word??? HAHA
go rye
What is the schedule for the NEW YORK STATE Championships? When is the class A game scheduled for?
Wolfhound
I think there are some points I need to make about the sleepy-p-ville game. I dont think p-ville had an easy time with Irvington at all, Irvington was winning that game 8-6 at one point. Pville got 2 lucky TD after tht point and were winning 22-8 at half time. Then never scored again on a turf field. The sleepy game was played in oatmeal. If that was on a fast, dry field, there speed would have taken over. Sleepy is a tough team who hasn’t put it all together yet. When they do, it’s going to be special. P-ville is going down on Holloween, its the headless horsemans holiday and they wont be denied!!!
Rye has to play disciplined and stay with Garrs Game plan. There will be so many new looks that Rye hasn’t showed yet that this season that they will show friday night.
hollow fan,
irvington runs a spread offense and passes the ball way more than sleepy who was running a power I, i dont see how a change of conditions would have benifited sleepy at all if anything it was a huge advantage. i cant see sleepy beating pville just dont think theres enough talent there, and defintely not nanuet they could spot u 20 and play in their socks and it would still be a rout
statesman,jeff p,rocket
As a Rye fan I know that Rye is confident in its abilities and I’m confident that all knowledgeable fans also have a tremendous amount of respect for the coach and players of POK
Good luck to POK and hope we all witness a heck of a game tomorrow night.
Haha that was funny…saying Pok cant have prospects…and knocking the CHSFL…really cute there…if most of you people watched at least 3 games you’d get a better understanding, but you wont. You’d rather talk income and race and steroids before talk about the other leagues in the state. That’s like acknowledging the Big 12 but not the Big East…when you discuss College Football.
Sleepy Pville sounds like a great matchup
as does Rye Pok…though I like wheat Pok it dont matter
I agree with DM50
I remember as recent as like 2007 where Class A had a 7 game season, and some C/B had 6. The Playoffs went like this year, except in A where they had to do 3 games in two weeks to make the weekend in November a playable date for the sectional titles. Now there’s plenty of time, even some “meaningless” games…
I just thought I should let you all know…TZ and Beacon brwaled crazy stuff
bulldog
i guess you havent seen that much of sleepy, they are running the spread also, and as for Nanuet, they were tied 12-12 in the fourth qtr. unlike p-ville who got smacked by them all game. You can ask rye or nanuet who gave them their toughest games, sleepy held rye to under 200 yards of off. all game. But, thats the past and P-ville is the future! They will not let the 150 lbs DT’s stop their running game.
The blog seems a little dead tonight. Could be Kev’s scolding, but most likely Yankee game. Let me take this time to liven up the Blog.
Looks like Kevin is shying away from the top 10 rankings, so I will step in(hahaha):
1. New Ro – continues to roll, getting ready for MW
2. North Rock – beat a very good JJEF that came with their A game but fell short
3. Arlington – has a big task this week trying to earn a spot at the table with the BIG BOYS
4. Rye – their size last week made Nyack look like a pop warner team. Should do the same this week against POK
5. Stepinac – Maybe they deserve to be higher, maybe not
6. JJEF – if this team had a passing game, they would give New Ro a serious run. Something to work on for next year.
7. Iona – I do not know how demoralized a team like this must feel, but whether some like to admit to it or not, they do have the hardest schedule and if they were in AA they would MAKE the playoffs.
8. Carmel – It is tough to put them here, but it would be even tougher leaving them off. Any HS team that can pass the ball as well as they do, is dangerous.
9. White Plains – I neglect to give them the respect they have earned, because of the last several years. But that is on me. CONGRATS to WP on a great year no matter what happens this Saturday.
10. Roosevelt – I wish this team stayed in AA to see if they would have received a playoff spot. My opinion not deep enough, but I will save it for another day. Great Job by their coaching staff with getting the most out of the reported 18 kids. Amazing!
Note to fellow bloggers, please feel free to take shots at all my picks, however, if you have a pair, please provide your own as well.
CARDINAL DEVANEY’S TOP 10 LOL
1 Stepinac
2 Iona Prep
3 New Rochelle(gotta throw the Reformation a bone)
4 JFK
5 Lourdes
6 Somers, still 6-0(Journal News don’t cover Dutchess)
7 Albertus Magnus
8 Lincoln Hall(get a history lesson)
9 Sacred Heart
10 Iona JV
POK @ Rye is going to be the game to watch. Rye is a great team and POK has probably the best D line in the section. Their D Tackles are basically DEfensive ends playing tackles in their 5-3 stack. 90 and 7 are all over the field every play. Like always whoever wins the line of scrimmage will win the game. GO RYE
word on the street is ossining gunna have a good team next year
Thanks, slacrosse; I’m certain that the Poughkeepsie players and coaching staff have similar respect for what the Rye football program has accomplished throughout the years… I haven’t been able to confirm the broadcast of the Poughkeepsie-Rye game being on MSG Varsity, but it would be awesome if it happens…
LOL Just a fact I got ya
Alright lets pick them before the games start shall we!!!
Somers over Nyack
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
North Rockland over Arlington
Rye over Poughkeepsie
Dobbs Ferry over Croton-Harmon
Roosevelt over Lakeland
Hey Jeff P. i read JR player #90 Tyre Coleman has 41 sacks this yr , can u confirm this is this a typo , if so i like to tip my hat to him and ill see what he’s got fri . but always GO RYE !!!
wow 1 AM posts. How bout them yankees?
Nyack over Somers
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Mount Vernon over Carmel
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
North Rockland over Arlington
Rye over Poughkeepsie
Dobbs Ferry over Croton-Harmon
Roosevelt over Lakeland
I refuse to pick non playoff games. This is ridiculous. I’m gonna drop out.
Arlington is pumped and wants it bad! When you play with heart good things happen. Look how many times the Yankees came back this year after being down in a game. The bottom line is they walked off with the win. That’s the same with Arlington. They adjust to the game and do what they have to to get it done. Should be a great game. I say Arlington comes out on top!
john malone…you sound like a spoiled brat…put an egg in your shoe and beat it! good luck to all of the teams playing this weekend.
10960,
My picks:
Somers
Eastchester
JJEF
Carmel
Harrison
New Ro
Arlington
POK
Dobbs Ferry
Roosevelt
John Malone,
Maybe Im missing something but I think all teams are eligible for a bowl game that are listed. Just because the adults who run Section 1 football are clueless doesnt mean you should reinforce it. Its not like youre being asked to pick Gorton/Clarkstown South..Remember to many of the kids and coaches playing in the games above, they are still very important to them and thier schools and families..its too bad they dont measure up to your inflated expectation level..On the bright side, I think I just inched closer to the top..thanks for falling on the sword, you are true gentleman and a scholar.
Just A Fact,
Now Im concerned youre overhyping AA North teams..mustve been the late night Yankee finish..JJEF is 3-4 and you have them #6 and you have Carmel at #8 at 4-3 based on their passing game..if youve followed North and I know youve become a closet AA North follower youd know that Carmels passing game is almost non existent averaging under 100yds per game as they dont have nearly the receivers theyve had in years past, last week RJ Krauss ran for almost 270 yds vs Arlington with very little passing yards, supposedly Schilling was injured as he played some receiver at times. Also Carmel has given up more points than theyve scored this season, not the mark of a top caliber team..both Arlington and RCK average more passing yards per game and both are wing-t teams..Sam Loussedes of Arlington threw for 332 against JJCR alone. Neither of those teams scare anyone with their passing game if you ask me. Id suggest adding POK and Somers..Somers still has only given up 20 points this year in 7 games and thats a great achievement..I think theyll bounce back strong this week..Thoughts??
Uh-oh, Bronxville has the kiss of death. They are the cover story this weekend. You know what happened to the last 4 teams being on the cover, they lost. Can Bronxville break the ice?
OK, 10960, here are my picks:
Nyack over Somers
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
Arlington over North Rockland
Poughkeepsie over Rye
rye til the end: According to MaxPreps, Tyree Coleman has five sacks and 59 tackles:
http://www.maxpreps.com/athletes/JhUXu1nKz0aPiPmfe8c9Jg/football-fall-09/stats-tyree-coleman.htm
Dobbs Ferry over Croton-Harmon
Roosevelt over Lakeland
talent trumps superstition
Bulldog,
Maybe I was at the wrong game but irvington ran the spread very little last saturday. maybe not at all.
Kevin,
Not much of a X-factor for Sleepy. Bramswig, who kicks off,
puts the ball in the end zone 80% of the time.
They’re not more important than the other playoff games though. We should be picking all the playoff games. This isn’t a Class A fest.
john malone:
drop out then, i don’t think anyone would care.
just a fact:
stepinac 7-0, just beat a 6-0 hayes team 44-19 and your comment is that maybe they should be higher, maybe not. but then you say white plains has had a great year – are you kidding me!!!!! lol!
?
all good,
WHERE ARE YOUR PICKS?????????
John Malone drops out. I guess he can not handle the pressure of picking non playoff team games where anything can happen.
Somers over Nyack
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Yorktown over Harrison
New Rochelle over White Plains
North Rockland over Arlington
Rye over Poughkeepsie
Croton-Harmon over Dobbs Ferry
Roosevelt over Lakeland
JOHN MALONE…WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO TELL ANYONE WHAT IS IMPORTANT? ACTUALLY I KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND YOU ARE A TOOL. THIS IS AN OPEN FORUM SO SHUT UP AND GO PICK UR NOSE….HEY JOHN JUST FOR SH_TS AND GIIGLES WHO IS GOING TO WIN THE BLUE DEVIL PEE WEE GAME THIS WEEKEND VS MONROE?
Dutchess,
I was off about the Carmel passing game, I do not go off stats since you can’t get them anywhere. Supposedly max prep is not very up to date. I was going off other bloggers comments from the past 7 weeks with what I have seen as well. Pretty much why have the rankings as I do. As for POK and Somers, I do not think either can beat Carmel, but just my opinion.
As for JJEF, how dare you. We might have to kick you out of the AA North Club. Just kidding. Seriously, as with Iona, JJEF had one of the toughest schedules. I was at the North Rock JJEF game and the game went to the wire. If North Rock is #2, JJEF deserves to be close by.
I think you need to post your top ten.
Somers over Nyack
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
North Rockland over Arlington
Rye over Poughkeepsie
Croton-Harmon over Dobbs Ferry
Roosevelt over Lakeland
John and anyone else who is thinking of not picking,
It would be ashame to go to the the finish line and then stop. If you do not want to do it next year then don’t.
10960 picks the games. His idea, his Game.
Well, since I am two behind the leaders maybe all of you guys in front of me should stop picking so I can catch up.
GBGB
So I guess 20% of the time, you are going to have to becareful.
My picks ( can’t believe I am picking Nyack and 10960 did not)
Nyack over Somers
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
North Rockland over Arlington
Rye over Poughkeepsie
Dobbs Ferry over Croton-Harmon
Roosevelt over Lakeland
Also 100% of the time your great WR Bramswig will be shut down by the x-factor super sophomore LJ garrant.
3 yards,
I would love to see Suffern win that game. But I do not eve know If DiMarsico is healthy. Like with what North Rock did to Suffern, JJEF should where down Suffern by the 4th quarter and pull away.
?

Good luck to the playoff teams. Should be another great weekend.
Nyack
Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF
Carmel
Harrison
New Rochelle
Arlington
Poughkeepsie
Croton-Harmon
Roosevelt
See you at Rye tonight. Should be a good one.
Just A Fact,
Please remove the holier than thou..John Malone… from the rankings..he has recused himself from this week and hence the championship(Thanks John)...no do overs or take backs..showed his true colors…now hes out..Id also suggest anyone else ahead of me consider Johns comments and actions and mimick as well..I need all the help I can..LOL
I have seen POK once (loss to Eastchester) and Rye twice (Eastchester and Roosevelt) and I just can’t see Rye losing to POK.
Eastchester beat POK them and the only reason it was close was they fumbled 5 times. Rye has too many weapons. POK does not have a great passing game. They do have a very good defense which will keep the game fairly close.
Simpkins, Coleman, Franks et al will be a menace to the Rye backs. Watch for a Rye grind it out offense with occaisonal dump off passes to the backs. Rye won’t make too many mistakes, if they do, they could lose this.
Just A Fact,
My top ten is not based on who’d beat who, but a best guess of recognizing achievement in their own classification and where they rank in achievement overall..Here it goes:
1. New Rochelle
2. Stepinac
3. North Rockland
4. Rye
5. Arlington
6. White Plains
7. Iona
8. Poughkeepsie
9. Bronxville
10.Roosevelt
Think its fair and makes sense…what say you??
Go Eagles,
POK QB Jarrid Williams has nearly 800 yards passing..has to be comparable to Eck in yardage..also rushed for 500 and change..not saying hes the same QB but very explosive and underrated as a passer..dont look at the Eastchester game..they played like garbage..I saw the game and thats not nearly the POK team we expected or see now..what do you base your comments on..one game?
DutchessFBfan…they put up some #’s but as stated on many occasions they played some weak teams. i’m not trying to take anything away from them but just trying to put it in perspective. just fyi…i was one of the guys that saw the eastchester game and then touted them all year long when guys were overlooking them. i am sure that they will give rye a hard time. i see the game being tight with the winner up by no more than 3 pts. good luck tonight.
DutchessFBfan…i like your top ten with the exception of iona…it will be interesting to see how they do this weekend being that they are the favorites according to the predictions. i still think they are riding last years record in the rankings.
DUTCHESSFAN
CARMEL HAS THROWN FOR CLOSE TO 800 YARDS??SHILLING HAS PLAYED INJURED FOR THE LAST THREE GAMES NOT ONE—YET THEY WERE BEATING ARLINGTON BY 11 WITH FOUR MINUTEDS TO GO.GIVE CREDIT TO ARLINGTON BUT THE RAMS GAVE THAT ONE AWAY.DO NOT MINIMIZE SCHILLINGS ABILITY;HE HAS THROWN FOR 40000 YARDS AND CLOSE TO 40TDS IN HIS TIME AT CARMEL
Dutchess,
good list. If we needed someone to replace Kevin’s since he might no be posting a top ten anytime soon, I would use yours.
I still stand behind mine though. I think Carmel might, but JJEF would definitely beat some of the teams on your list.
JUST A FACT:
1. New Rochelle
2. Stepinac
3. North Rockland
4. Rye
5. Iona
6. Arlington
7. Pok
8. Fordham Prep
9. White Plains
10.Roosevelt
Somers over Ny
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown (rematch? how did that happen?)
New Rochelle over White Plains
Arlington over NoRock
Rye over Poughkeepsie
CH over DF
Roosevelt over Lakeland
fanoftheman,
My point as well…this may be the most dangerous team in Section 1..as Ive said through seeing them over the years..the looming question is what team shows up?? Their talent is as good or better than anyones in the entire Section, including New Rochelle..I cant get to Rye but Ive seen POK against AA teams like Carmel and JJEF and Arlington and Ketcham and throw them a beating in the last few years..and sure those teams were just getting new coaches for the most part with the exception of Carmel but that 2005 POK team was fantastic with Wayne Neal Jr., Clinton McCabe, MoQuan Dickens..it seems they always have the same type of athletes and usually size..there was a time when POK played in the Championship under I beleive Coach Thompson..now Coach Barger has the Pop Warner changed their names to the Pioneers, similar colors and systems…watch out..I see POK by 6…respectfully to the Rye fans..the overall speed and size is nothing Rye will have ever seen since 1931 when they started..or whenever Jim says it was..when a ham sandwich cost a nickel…Good Luck to both teams!
Carmel Fan,
Are you kidding, I said just under 700, you say 800..in a 7 game season so far, thats 15 yards a game differential..give me a break..wasnt denigrating Carmel or Schilling..but passing is not their strong point as I pointed out by RJ Krauss’ numbers..when Krauss excells Carmel excells, look at them taking a better Arlington team with all its starters to the wire last week..Schilling is a given as a great player, so do you really want to argue over 15 yards a game…OK he has 800…youre still 4-3 and lost to Mahopac and Ketcham and in both games Krauss was neutralized..should I go further? So now you beat up Mt Vernon hopefully, and hand in the helmets and shoulderpads and get ready for the post season parents dinner..nice story…hopefully Schillings shoulder is better for hoops??
?
JJEF would beat CLOSE TO half the teams on your list.
JUST A FACT!!!!!!!!!
Plus you criticized my comments on WP and you have them on your list.
I agree with one of your comments.
The LOL!
Saw POK and Rye both play eastchester this year, i’m concerned that POK will not be able to stop Rye’s off tackle run. When EHS played POK they were able to establish the FB (Martin) all game had close to 100 yards rushing. However i do think that POK has a lot of talent and seems to be jelling at the right time. The POK kids have a great chance if they play mistake free football. On the other hand if Eck gets pressure on him like he did against ehs you might see an upset!
DutchessFBfan…i give the pok coach a lot of credit…i was very impressed with their play as well as their sportsmanship which has plagued a few teams this year. pok has the talent and the coaching. sonny bones made some good points…good luck.
I wouldn’t mind seeing POK win this. I hope they bring the pressure and see what Eck does. If he engineers some scores and wins the game, great for him. POK has great linebackers, but the line must control the line of scrimmage. I think Coleman will have a big game.
for Rye, I think Nagle is the key. McCormack will be neutralized, so Rye needs other options.
Carmel Fan,
Thats some achievement by Schilling…40,000 YARDS passing in 26 games….he appears to have averaged nearly 1700 yards passing a game in his brief career..and taken into account hes only thrown for 800 of them this year..by your account he averaged over 2,000 yards passing a game as a sophomore and junior…not sure why he returned for his senior year? LOL… If youre going to make a point, check your post before entering…I’ll assume its the same as a misspell?
Man I’m good in this one, No games played at this point I’m on time!!!
Somers over Nyack
Eastchester over Horace Greeley
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
North Rockland over Arlington
Rye over Poughkeepsie
Dobbs Ferry over Croton-Harmon

John Malone,
Make your picks damn it!!! LOL I think 10960 picked these games based on blog popularity because ever since i started blogging (september) These are the teams I usually read about or gets the most comments.

Nyack over Somers
Greeley over Eastchester
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
Arlington over North Rock
Rye over Poughkeepsie
Dobbs Ferry over Croton-Harmon
Roosevelt over Lakeland
John Malones Spread picks got torched by Devaney so he’s gone mad.
Hey Kevin…this is great. you have to hear this one. You predicted that it will be Brewster 27, Pearl River 12
but with the day of event who knows now if Brewster will win.
I heard that in Brewster, the school had a whole day of events celebrating Halloween which also meant you can wear a costume. Well 4 of the football guys (3 of them seniors) wore Teletubby costumes & Coach Polverari was livid. Demanded they take off costume or else get suspended from the game. They r his starters defense offense running back. WOW the whole student body couldnt believe his Decision & considering the day of event i think the team should have been able to have fun with it too. This is their last pity game. With a really bad season & I can see why now. Polverari can’t even make good plays for his team this whole season and now bullying KIDS…lol oHHHH Well. If I were there parents i would be pissed off.
p.s. i really hope this is a rumor cuz this is really dum thing to do to kids.
Garnet 10580 better hurry the F up with the picks or he is going to be …..SSSIIIIIICCCCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you guys must all be high if you think dobbs is going to beat croton…
Chuck Norris, Superman, and Batman are all wearing Jack Bramswig costumes for Halloween!
Jack Bramswig doesn’t wear a watch….He decides what time it is!
Somers over Nyack
Horace Greeley over Eastchester
John Jay-EF over Suffern
Carmel over Mount Vernon
Harrison over Yorktown
New Rochelle over White Plains
North Rockland over Arlington
Poughkeepsie over Rye
Croton-Harmon over Dobbs Ferry
Roosevelt over Lakeland
If you think Poughkeepsie D line will control Ryes O line you’ve never seen ryes line. While the whole line is big and athletic, its the left side of the line that Mccormack breaks most his runs off of. The OT, Levinson, is 6-2 265 pds. and is atheltic, Charlie Rollins might be 6’4 230 after eyeballing him, hes the tallest player out there. The Center, Powers, is about 6’3 22o, they are just huge.
Here are my picks for this weeks games: and yes if u look back at my picks from last week i did pick roosevelt and poughkeepsie to win, but i did overlook lakeland Heres my picks:
Rye 24 Poughkeepsie 14—Poughkeepsie may be the strongest and most physical team in class a, but rye has a very good mix on run and pass, and the pass is what is going to kill poughkeepsie since there big guys up front wont be swarming to a ball carrier.
Roosevelt 28 Lakeland 21—Close game throughout. Neither defense is great but i actually have to say lakeland defense is better than roosevelts, but roosevelts offense is just that good that they will win this game by at least a touchdown. There offense will keep lakelands off the field.
rye is way too diciplined for poughkeepsie. i don’t think it will be that close.
does anyone know anything about woodland high schools field?
i play for lourdes and our game got moved to woodland high school.
its a turf field but idk if its field turf or astro turf????
I have been watching many section 1 games since 2006. I saw shilling as a sophmore n started his first year of his varsity career. Shilling is very good. he has about 3800 yds passing in 3 seasons as Carmel’s qb. I have seen eck play n many other teams from section 1. Shilling is the most developed/best potential qb in the section by far. Its true Shilling his first year was carried by his 2 all star recievers in John Kiechle n Preston Sopresetyo, but that paved the way for him to mature n become 1 of the elite qbs in the state. Shilling has averaged 1250 yds a season as carmel’s qb with his best year comming his sophmore year when he threw for 1700 yds to the 2 recievers above mentioned (both had many d1 scholarships for football, and kiechle now plays d1 college baseball, kiechle ran a 4.50 40 n preston was 6 foot 4 n plays at lehigh). Without Shilling this year, the carmel team would be 3-4 or 2-5 this year, and would of never made it to the sectional final last yr w.o shilling., Krauss is good butis not an athelete like kiechle or soeprasetyo were to make a difference in the carmel games. Those 2 dominated the 2007 season for recievers and they were on the same team. Kiechle even led the state with interceptions with 10 in 8 games in 2007 and no one even knew that about kiechle because he chose not to play in all star game and wanted no extra attention. Shilling is by far the best qb in section and top 5 in state. But it does heklp when he had quality recievers the past 2 yrs. His stats have dropped each year because the best recievers in carmel history graduated in 07, haluci n jamison helped him in 08 on the sectional run but werent as good as the 07 recieving corp and this yr shilling has no1 to throw too.
how is AA north overhyped? I am a Class A fa, specifically Somers fan but I guarentee you each one of those teams in AA north except maybe cross river could beat Rye or any of the A playoff teams if matched up. i SAW MANY GAMES THIS YEAR AND FROM WHAT i SAW AA North is the best division in section 1 by far. Ketcham and mahopac would be a very good game with any of the A playoff teams. Those 2 r the 4th n 5th place teams in AA north. You saw the 3 seed in AA north (JJEF) almost knocked off both North Rockland and New ro in back to back weeks. If any teams in A or North Rockland/ New Ro played the AA north schedule every year. They would not be undefeated every year (esp Rye). Ive seen Rye play 3 games this year and i believe they would have 2 losses in AA North during the 5 game division setup in AA. I believe JJEF Arlington and Carmel are all better than Rye poughkeepsie fox lane somers and ossining. That doesn’t mean they’d beat all of those teams. They are just overall quality better. Each game would be very good but i still believ AA north teams would come up with a win in most scenarios against those teams. You can’t even mention the enrollment differences because Carmel is 4th smallest AA school, jjcr is 2nd smallest w just ovr 1000 kids. It’s unfair in a way for AA north because each team in the division could compete with anyone in AA playoffs and A playoffs definitely. There would be no blowouts. The weakest team in the division JJCR, would b 2nd place in New Ro division and maybe 3rd in North rockland division depending on the suffern JJCR game. Class A is strong but I still believe AA North teams have the toughest schedule and they could all beat anyteam in the AA,A playoffs on a given day. They might not win all of them but they would be a very very tough out for any of the teams in A and AA playoffs no matter how much you don’t believe it, i do. I have seen almost all A and AA teams play this year and AA north is definitely the hardest division. Remember I’m a somers fan, but I don’t see us beating carmel jjef and arlington in head to head matchup this year, neither can i see rye winning against all 3. I believe both teams would go 1-2 against those 3 teams, mayb 2-1 if they got lucky 1 game. They wouldn’t win all 3 games though, for sure.
kevin has always been and always will be a North Rockland hater. Plain and simple.
DutchessFBfan,
Arlington will be handing in there helmnets and shoulder pads after today as well North rockland will take them out.So get ready for your post season dinner.Hope your hungry!!!!!!
Just An Opinion,
I did say POK by 6…sorry it was 5..how dare you question my sage abilities…as long as Coach Casarella didnt have a slumber party with the officiating crew..I think its a 4 point game…Arlington by 3 on a late FG…..we’ll see???
MV beat Carmel 32-14 for all those who doubted including kevin.
“Hastings is unlike any team Bronxville has faced and matches up its size well enough not to get pushed around. All the pressure is on Bronxville.”
should immediately be corrected to read:
“Bronxville is unlike any team Hastings has faced; Hastings does not match up its size well enough and so will get pushed around badly. All the pressure is on Hastings.”
we apologize for any confusion
