The Jonny McGhee Saga
-

As I detailed in an article in today’s Journal News, Lewis Edney is settling in as the new quarterback at New Rochelle. Nope, Jonny McGhee hasn’t come back to the team and, according to the coaches and players, it doesn’t seem like he’s going to.
I’ve said it before and I stand by it: Jonny McGhee would have been the best returning player in Section 1 this season. He started as a sophomore two years ago and had his team three minutes from the state championship game, only to guide them within a 26-yard field goal from the Dome last year. You know what happened from there.
The reason McGhee is no longer considered a part of the team centers around him not showing up to offseason workouts and arranged meetings in the spring and summer. As the starting quarterback, he was expected to be there. On most occasions, he was a no-show without warning. New Rochelle tried to convince him the importance of being with the team. Eventually, the Class AA champs had to move on.
That’s where Edney comes in. I spoke with the senior for a while last week. He seems ready to take over from a confidence standpoint. He just needs a little more time to develop physically and get a firmer grasp of the playbook. The next month, especially Champions Camp, will allow him to do that.
Until then, though, you have ask yourself one question: What if McGhee comes back? There are several other scenarios and issues involving McGhee, which I’ll detail below and give my thoughts. I’d love to hear yours in this very unique situation:
What if, on Aug. 21, he shows up?
It’s not out of the realm of possibility. August 21 is the first official day of fall practice. By rule, any workout a team has in the offseason up to that point is deemed voluntary. He technically didn’t HAVE to show up to those. August 21, by state rule, is the first day.
However, and many might disagree here, it’s well within the right of the coaches and players to award positions based on attendance. Maybe Edney would have earned the starting job even if McGhee was there. Who knows? But McGhee hurt his team by not showing up this spring and summer. Edney was there to help. So Edney being named the starting quarterback is totally valid.
But if McGhee shows up, passes the physical and New Rochelle has a no-cut policy for football, he HAS to be a member of the team. Case closed.
Do you allow him to take reps?
Before I even let him back on my practice field and put a helmet on, the first 20 minutes of practice will be a closed door meeting. It’s the coaches, the captains and McGhee. Nobody leaves the room until they’re satisfied with what McGhee says, whether he issues an explanation or an apology. Unless McGhee gets the blessing from them, you cannot move forward.
Then, he must speak to the team. Again, explanation, apology, whatever. You can’t have a distraction like this on your team, especially not when you’re aiming for your fourth straight sectional title. Then, he can step on the field.
If you have a two-time all-section quarterback who has lost one regular season game in two years on your team, do you necessarily have to play them?
Nope. Absolutely not. It might be uncomfortable, and you might have an unstoppable scout team, but if New Rochelle wants to play the kids who committed to the offseason workouts and reward them, I respect it.
McGhee has earned his spot back on the team, not just from a talent standpoint. This is more about trust. When you put on a uniform, every one of your teammates expects you to commit and work your hardest, whether you’re the starting quarterback or the fifth-string kicker. It’s the same with the kids who miss games in the spring with the prom. As a teammate, you expect the people around you to do what’s best for the team. New Rochelle expected that from McGhee. And if he’s going to be a member of the ‘09 squad, they’ll expect it again. He’ll have to prove to them he’s committed.
Because, imagine this: What if McGhee proves how good of a player he still is and they put him at quarterback. Who’s to say that before the playoffs he might not lose his ambition to play and stop showing up again? Then what? You might think that’s extreme. But I can imagine nobody thought in the spring he would mysteriously stop showing up. So why can’t it happen again?
Can you turn McGhee away from the team?
I’m not in education. I don’t work in schools. And my contact with kids is limited to being around practices and games.
But, as an educator, how can you turn your back on a kid regardless of the situation?
I don’t think you can. It’s your job to help these kids. They’re 16, 17 and 18. They’re not adults. The adults in this situation have to recognize there was a problem here and do whatever it takes to help the student athlete. Tony DeMatteo once said at a clinic that you can never turn your back on a kid, no matter what. I couldn’t agree more.
Let’s not lose focus on what’s important here. It’s not about winning football games. Sports is a privilege, not a right. McGhee is in no way entitled to play football for New Rochelle this season. But if this can help steer away from trouble — whether he’s getting into trouble or not — it is worth some of the adults swallowing their pride and, once again, reaching out to help him.
If McGhee does come back, how do you use him?
If I were coach Lou DiRienzo — and I’m not, nor will I pretend to ever be — I think you allow McGhee back on the team with three stipulations:
1. He addresses the team and accepts comments and questions from those who have them, players or coaches.
2. He re-proves his commitment to football. The slack he might have received as a veteran, star player the last two years is totally lost. If he misses a single practice, or even shows up a minute late, he gets treated like a rookie and they withhold his reps at practice and his playing time.
3. No way can you allow him to play quarterback. It’s not fair to Edney, who busted his rear end all spring and summer. If McGhee played any other position in any sport, you could ease him back in. But not quarterback. No way. If you let McGhee play QB, you will lose the team.
Do you hold losing the last two Monroe-Woodbury games against him?
McGhee has been beaten up on this blog for what happened in the final minutes of those two games. Those two games, when put together, is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.
Some feel that losing those two games has something to do with this. I can’t imagine it does. Honestly, in the 2007 game where he fumbled was not his fault. I question whether New Rochelle should have even been attempting to throw the ball on 2nd-and-long at its own 35 leading with with just over three minutes left. They put a lot of trust in McGhee in that spot, maybe more than any sophomore should ever have. McGhee, though, was so good that season that you forgot how old he was.
As for last year, I could not believe that any kid would call his own fake in a spot like that. But do I totally blame him? First, the snap, he felt, was a little high and the kick could have been blocked. Secondly, he pulled the snap twice before on extra-points in big spots — highlighted by his two-point conversion run in triple OT to beat John Jay — and it worked. Third, and it’s hard to write this, but I don’t think McGhee had any faith whatsoever that the kick would have been made. He felt he had the better chance of winning the game so he took it.
Now, he’s not a coach and that’s not his decision to make. If I were running New Rochelle and he was coming to every offseason workout, I’d probably suspend him for the first game of this season for defying the decision of a coach. But that’s a separate issue.
To me, McGhee lost those two games not because he choked in a big spot. He made two mistakes playing as hard as he could. You can’t ask more a kid than for him than to play his hardest. And, no matter how good of a coach you are — and right now Lou DiRienzo is the best — you’re always at the mercy of your kids in a game.
When it comes down to it, will he back back?
So many of you have speculated, quoting Facebook posts and rumors from friends. Personally, I don’t think this is over. In fact, I think today’s article might have only fueled the push some are trying to make to convince him to return.
Whether he goes into the office today, tomorrow or some time before August 21, he will be, even if for a day, again a member of the New Rochelle football team.
Again, I’m anxious to hear your thoughts and whether you agree or disagree with my perspective. I’ve thought about this issue for a long time, and pretty much avoided the discussion until we got closer to the season.
Champions Camp begins a week from today. The clock is ticking.

Why doesn’t everyone leave the poor kid alone. So he doesn’t want to play. It is his decision. Maybe he is sick and tired of all the scrutiny and bull crap he has had to put up with. Maybe football is not fun for him anymore. Why doesn’t everyone let up on the poor kid. I am sure the last thing he wanted to see was his name and story a a lead story in the paper. The Journal News is walking a fine line in my opinion with this kid. In fact, you may have gone over it with the article.
Report the news stop trying to create the news.
wow big article.
I don’t care how good the player a team cannot succeed with a player especially a quarterback putting himself first. THE TEAM ALWAYS COMES FIRST. look at Iona Prep Mack and Tyrae share the spotlight seamlessly and they succeed because of it. McGhee and New Rochelle will never make it if he comes back into the quarterback role.
We all get that Mghee is a two year starter. However, sometimes things are about more than just winning. This kid hasn’t worked out with the team since february and has blown off multiple meetings with the coach. Allowing him to come back now sets a terrible precedent for any star player in the future at new rochelle. And if any other kid who wasn’t the starter the past two years pulled a stunt like this, they would have no opportunity to come back. Mcghee was give multiple chances to redeem himself, and never took advantage. Its a critical life lesson that your action will always have consequences, and i dont think it is fair that Mcghee be let off the hook.
This article is ridiculous. This entire saga should not be played out in the newspaper. To much is involved in this story & it should be done in house between New Ro football team, Johnny McGhee & His family , New Rochelle HS, Coach D, AD at New Rochelle & the Principal of NR & no one else. Young kids have so many things going on in there lives, good & bad. Decisions have been made by everyone involved already & they could always change. But those decisions about young people should not be played out in newspaper like we are talking about Michael Vick or something. Leave this decision up to the people who are trained to handle it & the family of young man who might be making a very wrong decision. To many athletes these days are ME guys & we constantly see that attitude get them in trouble. Hopefully McGhee will come & ask for forgiveness. Hopefully Coach D will see in his heart that McGhee is really being honest with his decision one way or another & everyone moves on. This should not be a news article or a blog article. Hopefully all other bloggers will respect this topic & leave it alone. It really is not anyone’s business. ON Sept 12 when the open kickoff happens then I huess it is a story[ about how New Rochelle’s kids have adjusted to decisions that have been made.
Many of us watched Lewis Edney at the 7 on 7’s. He’s got a great arm and plenty of poise. In short Edney deserves a shot and I hope he gets it. Life’s about choices and Johnny McGhee needs those closest to him to guide him to make the right ones now. For New Roc sake I hope Edney & McGhee are both there on opening day to take the program all the way!
Kevin,
First let me say, I’ve always been a fan of your work. when i read this article it really disapointed me that you would post something like this for everyone to see. half the info posted in this article is no ones business unless your a part of the new rochelle organization. i know your a sports writer, you can either write whats good for everyone to know or try and sell papers, you chose the wrong one here. i know this is a blog and no one has to pay to see this its still unecessary.. its obvious that something is wrong in the situation between mcghee and new rochelle. its sad that anyone will be able to read this and post there own opinion, especially when they have no idea how the new rochelle program runs and operates. a bad day for high school reporting.
Kevin i feel as if you and the rest of the journal news have taken this story too far. your settig up a disater for a 17 year old kid…if he doesnt want to play he doesnt have too. this story really does not need all this attention. kids change their minds all the time about things, this is just another example. he is not obligated to play football.
Why would anyone write this? I would never want to be in the journal news for simply not showing up to optional workouts. The situation should be handled by him and his team. If he doesnt want to play, he doesnt want play.
My advise to all of my fellow bloggers.
Don’t respond to this one and it will go away. The kid deserves his privacy.
I wish him well. That is enough said.
Kevin, please post the camp schedules so we can move on to a different discussion.
I agree with the majority of comments here. Leave the kid alone. Detailing his accomplishments point out he owes nobody anything. Imagine this, a kid wants to enjoy his last summer before college!! ( Really if he is going to play in college, next summer will not be one of leisure” The high school workouts are “VOLUNTARY” and if he decides he wants to play Aug 21, well let him play. I am all for Section 1 allowing more practice time for kids to get better as an option, but this type of thing is exactly what administrators will point to as a reason to ban extra “voluntary” workouts…if you force kids to participate under threat of some sort of ban, well, that is not what high school sports are supposed to be about.
What were you doing your last summer before your senior year of hs?
The one part that I worry about is with all this attention I just hope the student will be able to go into school everyday without any problems so he can graduate and attend college.
Kevin,
I think the overall message here is “move on” and forget McGhee. Let’s focus on the upcoming season and players who will be on the field.
I’m even thinking you might be well served to simply pull the article… This is not good press for anybody.
This story happens almost every year in almost every team on some sort of level. Modified, jv, freshman, varsity, any team in the public league or the psal or the chsfl can have this problem. I feel bad for the kid; writing an article about him like hes a college standout who is costing the school, or a professional athlete who no shows is not the way to go. Its extremely unfair to write about this particular kids problems, while it happens elsewhere. So the kid may not want to play football anymore…he is entitled to that opinion. Its not like New Ro is the savior and has beaten teams from around the county and is the flag bearer of Section I.
These problems are usually kept in house, and are dealt with by the appropriate actions and decisions. I agree with alot of you fellow bloggers and wish the media, the Journal News in particular, stay out of a 17 year olds life. Journal News can’t even get the correct names of someone who past away following an automobile accident, so to put this kid on a pedestal and calling him out to take action is uncalled for.
First off Kevin terrible job on the article. is this the same guy who tells people not to be harsh on players in the blog and then writes a story like this. THe same guy who never asks a coach a tough question after they make a bad decision to cost their team a game.
Lets all hope McGhee plays. It’s time his players, coaches, friends, and family guide him in the right direction. This kid is a great player and someone that seems to be putting too much pressure on himself. IF NR wins or loses this year these experiences McGhee will always cherish. Maybe they put him at running back or he just plays Defense. I really hope he shows up Aug 21. Lets all remember these are all kids and he has done nothing wrong. He deserves a second chance!
get this article taken off the website this is high school football not the nfl, im very disappointed that someone would write an article about someone in high school that doesn’t show up for football
As someone stated above, no one is paying to read this BLOG POST. In fact, everyone one of us willing typed in the URL to bring us here. Blogs are created with the sole intention for an individual to discuss certain topics that he or she may find interesting. Kevin did just that. He clearly didn’t make this his journal news article b/c he knew it would be over the topic. Its the internet; deal with it.
over the top*
Gotta love it
The Article definitely Has the FEEL of a NFL Story! Sort of reminds Me of Bret Favre. If McGhee Shows up he Should get his JOB Back! He is a Proven winner!I am sure that there is Some behind Closed Locker Room Doors Stuff going on that we all don’t Know about ,is why he isn’t showing up !I cant see New RO’s Coach Making the same Mistake Norths Coach Made With his STUD QB Last Year!!!!!!!
Good Luck McGhee
P.S. Sula 4 super 11
francos,
like i stated before, some things are more important than winning.
How would you explain to the kid who has been playing qb all summer that he now has to compete for a spot with a kid who hasn’t attended any of the workouts?
i personally liked the article, its a huge mistake the kid is making. as one person said, let him graduate high school and get a college degree. well, think about what you are saying before you say it because football can only help him attain this goal. obviously he is a stud athlete but the fact is he already gave up basketball and it is clear that through his play the last 2 years, football could be his ticket to a good college. you ask kevin to cover football and thats what he is doing. johnny clearly is making a mistake that he will regret for the rest of his life and maybe this article will help him realize what he is throwing away.
I must agree 100% that the article in the JN was too much. I was even surprised that the head coach, his son and other players would even consider being interviewed for this. What happens in the locker room should stay in the locker room!!
Sure this a big topic in New Ro, but not front page sports section news. Is the JN going to report when every star athlete decides not to continue playing their senior season? Is New Ro not going to allow the 3rd string tackle who hasn’t been to all of the meetings and workout sessions to play his senior year? This article may have been more appropriate during doubles. Because until then the season hasn’t started yet.
The kid made a choice in HIS LIFE. HE has to LIVE with it!!
the right thing
what do you say to McGhee who gave his blood sweat and tears for two summers and seasons as apposed to 1 summer
P.S. That’s the way the cookies crumble
francos –
you say to mcghee that where were you since february not attending wieghtlifting and work outs while the rest of the team was doing everything they could to get another chance to beat monroe. Your priorities are horrible. Also you are a south fan, how can you support a no rock player?
the right thing
you asked; how can you support a no rock player?
I say: Props to where they are due!!!
you say ;you say mcghee that where were you since February not attending weightlifting and work outs while the rest of the team was doing everything
I say; how bout prior seasons .There’s more to the story that we all don’t know
You say:Your priorities are horrible. Also you are a south fan
I Say : I am an X, South Fan !!!! (HAVE my REASONS) Hate to see people S**T on!!!!! AND football comes only second to GRADES!!!!!!!
P.S. ever hear of ABC CHECK
check that
I am a SOUTH SQUAD FAN!!!
Just not a fan of Scrapie!
P.S. Go Sulla Go !!!!!!!!!
facebook, myspace, texting, media, blogs…etc are completely destroying our world. this is just getting out of control. it is scary that the student/athletes can actual come on here and read this non-sense – at some point it has to stop. the kids have not changed it is the adults & “professionals” that have. it is getting worse and worse. whatever happend to just coming to practice on start date and giving 100 percent and the coaching staff takes it from there! i think it worked pretty good when we didn’t have “blogs , texting, facebook…etc.” what the hell is going on!!!!
there is way to many experts out there.
For all you that support Kevin’s tasteless article then please ask him to ask ONE tough question to a coach when he blows a call after the game. This article is easy to write. I want to see him stand in front of a coach after a tough loss and ask why he blew a call. He won’t!!
trust me francos, i’m closer to the situation than you may think. And excuse me for not using perfect grammar. The fact is the past is in the past, this is the 2009 football season, and your advocating that a coach ignore the hard work of many for the bad decision of one.
Kevin-
As a devoted reader of your blog, I have to say this one was way over the top. This is high schoool football and a 17 year old kid. People can choose to disagree with his decision not to play, but to put out such a lengthy post is inexcusable.
Kevin, I will leave you with this. If you had a 17 year old son in the same situation as McGee, would you be happy if some reporter wrote the same blog post you just did?
Hold on now people. Let me get this straight. All the people that are on here with negative comments are saying this goes too far? That we shouldn’t be treating these kids like NFL players, Michael Vick, etc. You guys are the same ones that call into the Journal News and complain when your team doesn’t have a reporter at the game, or your team didn’t get a big enough article in the paper, or your son made this play and that play and it wasn’t in the paper. Whooooahhh people. You can’t have it both ways. You want HS sports covered in the paper or you don’t.
And, to all those who are saying “leave the kid alone, this went too far, the stuff being said shouldn’t be put out there, it should be kept in house, etc etc etc.” You are not understanding the situation. This is HUGE news. Think about it. This is New Rochelle we’re talking about. They have lost a GRAND TOTAL of 6 games in the last 9 years to Section 1 opponents. YES, 6 games in 9 years!!!!! So to HSFB Guy, you are wrong when you say “Its not like New Ro is the savior and has beaten teams from around the county and is the flag bearer of Section I.” As a matter of fact, they actually are! This is a two-year returning starter on that team. AND the QB! This is HUGE news. It’s not every day that New Rochelle has a sophomore starting on the Varsity, so it’s tremendous news when one of them decides not to play as a Senior, especially considering the personal history of this particular player.
The real issue here is not the job Kevin did in REPORTING (not creating as one fellow poster wrote) this news, it’s whether or not this news should have been reported at all. That’s an issue between you guys and the editors. To blast Kevin is irresponsible on your part.
Understanding that he has been given a responsibility by his bosses, what would you like Kevin to do, be a bad reporter? He is given a job. Report on High School football and basketball. I guarantee you if Jordan Lessane decides not play next year for Mt. Vernon, or Michael Coburn had not decided to play his senior year, it would have been a huge story as well, and would have gotten the same media attention as this. If Rye goes on to win the section this year, and Connor Eck decides not to play in 2010, that would be HUGE news as well. To say Kevin should not report on this issue is idiotic in my opinion.
Go back and check on the blog since the story of McGhee not playing this year broke and count the number of posts inquiring about this issue. I bet you get close to 50 or so. 50 for Christ sake! People were interested in this topic, people want to know about this topic, and this topic was much discussed, about as much as whether or not Iona Prep is the best team around, whether or not they should be because the recruit players, and right up there with How is Rye going to do in Class A this year and whether or not Harrison will be able to beat them. So for anyone to say this wasn’t news is just plain wrong.
Now, let’s look at the post. As usual, Kevin was very professional in how he addressed the issue. Does anyone have an issue with how he presented the facts, discussed the situation, or questions about what happens if McGhee shows up for the start of Fall practice? Nope, didn’t think so.
So, the bottom line is this. For all you people complaining, get off your high horse and come to this realization. Either you want high school sports covered in the paper, or you don’t. Kevin has received high praise (and deservedly so) for bringing more exposure to high school sports than there ever has been. Well, be careful what you wish for, because with exposure comes scrutiny, and with a situation like this, when you have a kid who has been the QB for his two years to date on the Varsity, with both years resulting in a Sectional Championship, when he doesn’t play his senior year, there are going to be articles in the paper, blog entries, etc. about it. It’s what any responsible journalist would do. Your issues should not be with Kevin, they should be with the Journal News, and their policy concerning coverage of High School Sports!!
Wait Just a Minute,
I agree, well said. Too many hypocrites on this forum.
Do your thing Devaney!!!
the right thing
all that i am saying is that McGee with all his blood sweat and tears deserves a second chance because
No1 he is just a kid
No2 we all make mistakes
no3 he has earned the benefit of doubt because he has prov en himself to be a leader based on his performance
No4 if you are so close to the situation please tell us what really happen how he fell from grace
no5 he has earned the right from what he accomplished the last 2 seasons a second chance
P.S.McGee Proven winner
Kev
Great Job,
keep it up
p.s.screw them!!!!!!!!!!!
This may come off as self serving considering I was a blogger type with Section1Recruiting, but I agree with Wait Just A Minute.
Do we want high school football to be a big deal or not? This is big news, and Kevin is paid to report the news in the paper. He’s paid to give his opinion and create traffic on the blog. That’s what he is doing.
I wish Kevin had more time to devote to the blog because we need a daily fix. It makes me miss writing and dishing out my own opinion so much.
Kevin is responsible for the JN covering HS football the way they are these days. Give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to a sensitive subject. This is the biggest story of the off season by far.
francos.
it is not my business to speak on the situation so you don’t have to believe me. But what kind of precedent does that set. Whats to stop any new rochelle star player from taking an off season off after this. The reason new rochelle has dominated since 2003 is not just their level of talent, but there commitment to outwork every other team and to put in the hours necessary to become an elite program. If the star players don’t buy into this, soon role players will not either, and new rochelle will lose what makes them new rochelle.
And lets say mcghee is given a second chance,
you have to throw the past out. As kevin says he needs to start from scratch as a rookie. Untill this point he has let his teammates down and he has to realize this. No spot will be given and he has to earn it. I have full trust however that Coach Dirienzo will handle this in the best possible way. I’m not sure which year, but i remember maybe in 1994 he was playing in his first section championship against north rockland. Due to an incident, the starting quarterback and running back were benched which very well may have cost them the game. Coach Dirienzo, unlike you francos, understands that winning is not everything, and I am sure he will be able to make a better decision than all of us in this.
THE THING
I am not saying that winning is everything!!!!
I am trying to say that it is misfortunate that if the reason he’s not showing up is how you say . If his Teammates feel the way that you say,He seemed to me as an above average QB who Thrived in Coach D big
O scheme and was the leader and in control of his team!!
P.S. It’s the ONLY THING
Just like coach D taught us, you could never trust the media. Smh.
Franco no one ever understands what you are saying because your posts are illegible. They resemble text messages that were crafted by my teenager daughter.
Wait Just.. you bring up some interesting points. Well worth the read.
I’ve spent the entire night reading your comments, re-reading all of your comments and literally staring off into space and thinking about this situation. I’ve come to one conclusion: I didn’t do anything wrong.
My job as a reporter for The Journal News is to report on high school football. I take that job very seriously. I pour my heart and soul into it on a daily basis. Part of my job is to keep track of the biggest topics in the sport and fairly and accurately report on those stories. After reading weeks of blog comments about Jonny McGhee and his intention not to play football, I felt it was appropriate it discover the facts and report them. I didn’t create the story. My intention was to correct the inaccuracies that bloggers had been writing. I felt I did that with my article.
As for the blog post above, I’ve re-read it about 10 times. I cannot find any parts where I condemn McGhee for his decision not to play. If fact, I can’t find a negative thing I wrote about him, aside from saying that he’s not entitled to play if he chooses to return. I couldn’t have been more supportive to him if he decides to play football. And if he wants to go back and is turned away, I’ll certainly come back on here and support his cause again.
Why can’t this issue be spoken about? It’s just football. This isn’t about McGhee breaking a law. He doesn’t want to play football. If McGhee was accused of committing a crime and that impacted his standing on the football team, it wouldn’t be my place to elaborate on the topic this extensively. It’s a football issue and, as I wrote above, it’s my job to write about football.
For the record, Jonny McGhee is a huge deal. I prefaced this blog post and made it clear in the article that he’s one of the top players in the area, and probably the best player in Section 1. And trust me, he would be a well-known player for his talent regardless of how much I write about him or even if The Journal News didn’t exist. People would know him — and they’d realize if he wasn’t there.
My only mistake is that I didn’t write that it would be totally acceptable if he DIDN’T change his mind. If he doesn’t want to play football, that’s fine. It actually would take a world of courage for him not to play. If his heart isn’t in playing, than New Rochelle is better off without him. Even he would admit that.
I stand by my story and this blog post. I’m not saying any of you are wrong for attacking me. That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. When I wrote this post, I expected a backlash. I’m not at all sensitive to it and I recognize that the criticism I’d received in my career is the No. 1 thing that makes me a better reporter. Please know that I sat down and thought through every word in this article and post, writing it over a span of two days.
If McGhee, his family or anybody from New Rochelle would like to speak to me personally, I’d be happy to.
louie d. will figure it out. besides being a great coach, i know from personal experience that he is a great person and teaches these kids how to be men first, footbal players second. if mcgee deserves a second chance he will definetly get it, if he doesent he wont. louie d. will make the right decission, he ALWAYS does when it comes to whats right for his kids, yes i said “his kids”, that is how he treates all of us. good luck new ro
there is a great wr camp this weekend in new jersery. google carty qb school and go wr camp section. just passing on some really good stufff.
I have enjoyed the Journal news covering of HS sports & blogs as a very good thing for local sports & for lohud.com. People go read the Post or Daily news for their fix on pro teams. Lohud is a local paper. News 12 has become very popular because it deals with local news.
It is also OK for people to disagree with Kevin’s or your opinions at times. Everyones opinion is biased one way or another for what ever reason. I no matter what team or what star do not believe this is a news worthy story at this time. After Aug 21 st maybe this is a story.
A few weeks ago we had much to do about these non mandatory camps & workouts that section 1 says they cannot police. The CHSFL has decided that off season workouts are not allowed as a team [11 on 11]. As football coaches have made football a 12 month a year job it comes with the problems that we are seeing right now. At what point is it to much. When does a kid have some free time with his family.
If a kids family had planned a trip to europe or down south for summer, does a coach have right to tell kid he cannot go ? Because he might miss a camp or a meeting. I want to be there when the family sues the school district when kid is not allowed to play. Every situation has many complex parts. I am sure that this situation is very complicated. I really don’t think the journal news should be digging into the personal points of this problem.
Coach D is a professional. One of the best coaches this area will ever see. I am sure when all is said & done he will make the right decision as far as situation for team , Kid & school. Coach D has put out some of the best football players & people in this area. Alot has to do with his team approach & dealing with issues like this everyday. Everyone should understand that every school deals with a problem like this daily. A good player is being selfish, is getting into trouble, is not doing his school work, is missing an unexcused practice, is hanging out with wrong people, this does not belong in newspaper until the situationplays out & decisions are final. This article is all about speculation [ not fact] ABOUT A 16 – 17 YEAR KID!
I know many coaches in area for along time & each of them have been faced with a star player who did something against school rules. I am sure more often then not the player ended coming back & playing. A very famous quote you cant make ” chicken salad out of chicken sh-t” This could be what fuels this “me” attitude in todays athletes. Coaches are better coaches when they have talented players That is a fact. To many kids are being driven by the AAU coaches, the rise websites & false ideas about where they are in recruiting with colleges . An article a few weeks ago showed how many athletes are 21 years old as freshman because they made the wrong choices with school work when they were in HS. That article came after the fact when those boys could tell their story & maybe help others who are making same mistake.
Kevin is an outsatnding person & writer. He really enjoys writing articles that stir the pot & get people talking about HS Sports & Lohud .com is very lucky to have him. But I really do not think this is s story that should be played out in a blog or newspaper before the fact. Maybe a story in Sept when New Ro is winning games with out a star, but at that point the story is about the other kids who have made adjustments to win. The story should not be about a young an who is making choices at 17 years old. Maybe 2 years from now we should do a story on Johnny McGhee & what his decision did to his college years. Maybe that would help other young kids not make the same mistakes.
HS Football is part of the education system & needs to be treated as such.
too much emphasis on workouts/camps/ in off season today remember when an athlete in high school played 3 sports!personally when i played in college workouts were voluntary in the off season I never went to any- was called out by my coaches and some teammates- who cares! if Mcgee walks on to the field aug 21 and competes to win thw qb job it should be ok-by the way I had an very good career as a qb in college and never went to any voluntary workouts-Good Luck McGee do what your heart tells you to do!
Here is my take. The article should not have been written. I wonder if all this scrutiny will make Section One officials look at if New Ro or other high schools are in violation of State rules. There is a lot of danger in all this reporting and I am scared to say that one day we will look back at this article as a turning point.
mcghee or edney??
what is the big deal and why all this crazy hype over a team that is playing wplains, mvernon, scarsdale, and gorton – haha!
as coaches , sometimes we take blame for kids mistakes , in this case maybe coach d should have taken the blame alittle to take the pressure off of the kid . i am sure this kid had a rough off season with that last play , i am sure that the kid caught hell from some fans and teamates ,thats where i think the coach should have diverted the grief took some blame weither true or not and handled it in house . that kid will never live it down .i hope everything works out for the kid and he comes back , if he does not , he will regret it for the rest of his life. football is about memories , only good ones .
YO go deep
R U 4 Real comparing me 2 your Baby girl, U need 2 relax and take it DEEP!!!!!!!!!
P.S.Kev ,
Dont sweat it ,no need to explain your self you’re a pro Bro!!!!!
Do we want football in section 1 to grow? As we already know that it hasn’t been happening. Section 1 hasn’t dominated the south east as it did. Section 1 doesn’t send at least 4 representatives to the dome like it once did. Do we want an increase in football interest around here? Do we want more in depth coverage? We can limit the news paper but should we limit the blogs too? There always has to be a critic and it’s always the ones who are just as guilty.
This is definitely a news worthy topic at this time. I’m an advocate for high school football growth in section 1. We seem to be all interested in this topic anyway. Devaney is catering to the mejority by writing this article. The mejority suddenly becomes critics yet they fueled the situation in the first place. This is news worthy and everyone on here sure loves to talk about football.Imagine waiting until August 21st for Devaney to start blogging. Imagine that.
Come on guys his articles are legit, do we really need a governing committee to limit Devaneys Blog??
Football is definitley a year round program for students who take it serious. I think the door should be open for players who want to be consistant. Coaches do not go too far with pre camp workouts. Coaches give opportunity for players who want to get better before camp begins. Maybe a backup player wants a little more time to prepare for his position battle. I don’t agree that a student should be punished for missing non-mandatory workouts. The battle for his position begins August 21st period. If he’s out performed by someone who got a head start… too bad, he was out worked. The coaches that have year round dedicated players are the lucky ones.
There’s plenty of time for the kids to have a life with these summer practices. We’re not talking double sessions here guys, the workouts are probably 2 to 3 hours the most. I’m sure the coach understands if a kid wants a week off. The only way a coach would have a right to inform a kid that he cant take time off is for reasons beyond his control which would be after August 21st when a kid is required to have a certain amount of practices to play.
I’m sure Devaney wouldn’t intrude on a kids personal life beyond football. If McGhee couldn’t play because of more serious reasons beyond football, do you think Devaney would spill the beans?
The only thing I don’t like is when I read people saying the kid made a big mistake. Who in this kids immidiate family is on here to be posting that? How can you assume that the decision not to play is within his control?
For the record, the decision doesn’t belong to coach D as well. I’m just speaking in legal terms now. Try telling a civil justice Jury that you had legitimate grounds to prevent a student from participating in a sport due to missing Non-Mandatory practices. Good Luck. That’s an easy no contest settlement.
I for one would love to look at these articles as, “the turning point.” The time where change began in this region and scouts began to gain major interest in section 1 talent. Where students get athletic scholaships and more kids gain interest in high school sports. Exposure draws interest, kids want to play. Especially the troubled student who takes academics more serious just to be elgible to play yet not realizing that college doors will be opening as well.
What Devaney is doing is great for football. He obviously wants what’s best for the area kids. This summer he pressed readers to send in videos of area players. He wants people to succeed. I doubt he’s hurting John McGhee by calling him, “the best player in the section.” Lets not be hipocrites. Lets not scrutinize Kevin Devaney especially if we’re guilty ourselfs.
10960 You talk a good game! If you were this young mans Mom Or Dad it would be a different story.
By the way the NYACK coaches do not appreciate your dialouge. You know very little about the game! You put the coaches there players and parents at odds often. You are MR Locker Room Material for other teams!
Kevin ,”YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED” This is schoolboy football. You allow people to drag down coaches, leagues, teams, programs, and athletic directors.
How many times will Kevin get away with irresponsible reporting? He pulled Port Chester into the middle of everything because Eastchester didn’t have a game. He later had to retract for not having the facts. Now he is pulling a High School kid into the spotlight for a personal decision. Write about the new kid, but leave the old kid out. People on the street will now harass this kid and call him selfish, when nobody knows the real story.
All you blind sheep keep following and defending this guy! Kevin print the FACTS, not your opinion or what you may think is the truth, THE FACTS!
People need to stop being so self righteous.
This is a HUGE high school football story
and anybody that disagrees is either A) lying to themselves, or B) living under a rock.
Nowhere in this article does Devaney bash Johnny Mcgee.
People just need to take a step back.
Kevin keep reporting, your doing a great job !
and to Not Keith Fagan,
Nowhere does Kevin say by all means trash every sports player, coach etc. This is a blog, and unfortunately people will have their opinions sometimes bad or disrespectful.
And whether the blogs here or not, people will still have ill will towards high school players, the program etc. Thats just how it is. So just stop pinning it all on Kevin.
All of you who are doing so are ridiculous !
HEY IDIOTS
LEAVE KEVIN ALONE
ITS A STORY HE DID HIS JOB UNBIASEDLY
IF YOU DONT LIKE THE STORY ITS SIMPLE…DONT READ IT !
BUT THIS IS A BLOG FOR ALL OF US HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS LOVERS TO GO AND TALK AND REHASH. SOMETIMES ITS NOT GONNA BE ALL FLOWERS AND RAINBOWS.
KEVIN IS ONE MAN, HE MAKES MISTAKES IF HE DOESNT HAVE THE RIGHT STATS. HES HUMAN…IT HAPPENS. BUT TO SAY THIS ONE WAS A BIG MISTAKE IS JUST COMICAL.
Wow Tough Crowd LOL.
Well atleast everyones interested. Negative comments or Positive….. Kevin Devaney still wins!!!
The people who are being negative all love this. Stop lying to yourselfs. You love posting about this so cut the crap.
200 more posts to go!!!
You dropped the ball on this one Kev. I hope someday this doesn’t bite you in the butt. Did you think how this kid and his family now feels reading this?
haha I agree 100 percent with you 10960
Kevin,
Don’t listen to the critics. This is newsworthy, and you did the right thing by writing this. I have to disagree, however, with your statements around the MW games not being his fault. I was at both games, and the fumble in particular was entirely his fault. Last year was a no brainer. This is not to say he didn’t do many other good things, but those defining plays rested on him.
Enough nonsense about putting pressure on these “children”. This type of thinking created an entire generation of wimps unable to deal with the realities of life. The world is pressure – better to learn to handle it now rather than waking up one morning to find you have been sheltered and sold a bill of goods.
Whether your for or against this blog being published the fact is
it was published. There’s no use in criticizing kevin for it, that won’t change anything
so instead of doing that, can’t we discuss some High school sports considering thats why all of you including myself come on this site to do
scary,
how is the fumble his fault when the fullback and the tackle both missed their block and hit him in the back while he was attempting to make a throw?
EVERYONE
Kevin Devaney has done a unbelievable job in reporting for all of Section 1 and local CHSFL teams. As someone who follows Iona Prep I often find myself reading various metropolitan area Newspapers and forums to get the latest on the competition that Iona will face in LongIsland and the 5 Boros- The High School coverage from these media outlets are substandard compared to the Football and basketball blogs that are run by Kevin. The football forums in Newsday and the Staten Island Advance are never updated and have no story lines that are reported. Even the widely know Syracuse.com forum is not even close to what we have here with Lohud.
Finally I have spoken to Kevin on a few occasions at various events (I did not tell him my screen name) and he works very hard at his job and is an asset to the Lower Hudson Valley region with regard to reporting on Football and Basketball.
Some questions for Franco Cuts:
Are you getting paid by the Sulla family everytime you mention his name.
Will you ever go to Clarkstown South’s Coach Scarpelli’s Bar/Resataurant in New City to eat and drink.
Will you offer free haircuts to all us bloggers for every Clarkstown South win this year.
Who taught you all the street slang – you live in New City for christs sake.
If this was a story about an NFL player I wouldn’t mind what was written as each man can control his own destiny and actions.
High School players often have no say in whether they participate in practices or play a sport. I have seen hockey players get suspended from their teams and not play the rest of the season because their parents decide that the family will go away over Christmas vacation – missing games. I’ve seen football players miss games because the grandmother decides that the boy needs to go to church instead. Kids also get told that they can’t participate in off-season training because they need to play other sports, work on their studies, work a part-time job, watch their baby sisters or that they can’t play because they broke family rules or some other youthful mistake.
I look forward to reading Kevin’s stories and the blog – just not this story.
To Bloggers,
To Bloggers,
U all should be ashamed of yourself for blogging on this story. Kevin I’ve read this article u r not trying give johnny mghee a negative point of view but still you should have never but up an article about Johnny Mghee situation. It is only going to damage his self esteem. Everyone too stop blooging about this story it would be best for Johnny Maghee if u don’t. He made a choice agree or disagree mind your own buisness JUST LET JOHNNY MGHEE LIVE HIS LIFE
very well said IonaPower !
I agree completely
You guys cant criticize Devaney for this. You fueled this article by talking about it non stop on the last post, and now that devaney talks about it, its wrong? No, he has done nothing wrong.
Franco you are a pathetic representation of an adult. I feel bad for Kevin that he has you on his side. Go back to shaving heads. 3 Yards that was hysterical.
Kevin is excellent at what he does and I agree with what Iona Power wrote. But with that being said, this article was a fumble. Unless you have proof, you don’t expose a situation like this. Yes it is news, but there is no need to put a young kid in negative light. It is Johnny and his families decision. Personally I feel after Aug 21st a fact filled article would have been more approriate.
Kevin,
Did you speak to this young man? Did you speak to Coach Dirienzo? Did you speak to his parents? Did you speak to the AD and the Principal? My take is you talked to kids online as you often do.This is a grandstand shameless self promotion!
Maybe there is a family issue. Maybe this young man wants to do something else. Maybe he has to work this fall.Maybe he wants to be a curler.Maybe he will return.GOOD FOR NEW ROCHELLE.NONE OF YOUR’s or anybodys BUSINESS!!!!!!
10960—It won’t be long before JOSE finds out whom you are.Not a good scene for you.
I think the point here is Johnny’s future. If Kevin’s blog gets Johnny back to playing for a team which leads to College, which leads to a degree then that is a great thing for Johnny. I do not want to think of some of the alternatives for this kid if he does not play football. Kudos to Kevin for trying. I can’t blame Johnny for not wanting to spend every waking minute devoted to playing high school football. These high school coaches need to relax on the schedule somewhat. I bet some of the bloggers who were good players back in their day would have thought twice about playing if they knew what these kids go through these days. God, how many times you going to practice throwing an out?
Not Kieth Fagan,
YOU
ARE
RETARDED !
Completely fine with Kevin taking his spin on the story. He is free to report the stories he feels fit. Let’s now just man up and ask some coaches tough questions during the regular season. Don’t duck the real reason behind some teams loses but report the teams faults.
After posting at 8:49 last night, I decided to let 24 hours go bye and see what transpired here. The first few comments I read, I had no problem with. Frankly I just didn’t like the subject matter and thus voiced my comments. Having been around for a while, I was afraid this blog might take the route it eventually did. I have seen similar results on other blogs I follow.
Anyway, let me make my comments short and sweet. I probably know Kevin Devaney better than anyone on this blog; unless of course his mom, dad, sister or wife are commenting, which I doubt.
Like it or not, Kevin believes in what he does and how he sees things. There is no doubt in my mind that his views on Jonny McGee and this story are well intentioned. You may not agree with what he writes here, but you cannot make personal attacks on him for his seeking a good conclusion to an otherwise very sad development which I know is his objective.
Kevin is the best thing to hit Section 1 sports, to my memory. He is tireless in his attempts to bring us a good picture of what is going on out there. He is very well liked and appreciated by the the most respected coaches throughout the county. Sure there are those who would choose to beat Kevin up at this time, probably because they didn’t get something they wanted along the way, but that is simply a cheap shot and doesn’t speak much of the integrity of these so called critics.
Kevin, keep up the good work and try to write pieces that please me all of the time

I actually enjoy reading your comments. I have no clue as to why, but I do. So carry on Franco!
Guys lets be respectful here. It’s a high school football Blog. Don’t take it to the heart, especially you adults. Keep in mind that we all have something in common and thats an interest in high school football. Lets not name call or make threats. Last have a nice enjoyable dialogue.
lets not insult the intelligence of fellow bloggers. No need to be rude as well. By doing so, you’ve already lost before you’ve even started.
go deep
Thatz my STREET slang Dog
GO KEV GO!!!!!!!!!
He felt he had the better chance of winning the game so he took it.
.... any thoughts i think this kid does what he wants when he wants and loves the attention he is loving every second of this
10960 you bring a lot to the table. But next time you want to preach about being respectful, at least do it BEFORE you have just told someone to hop off your nuts! You look foolish.
For what ever reason, you gotta love Franco Cuts on this blog. At least he makes things interesting.
Kevin, this is bad. This is unacceptable. It is also borderline pathetic. “Do you hold losing the last two Monroe-Woodbury games against him?” ARE YOU KIDDING? I don’t know what is wrong with you, but you have crossed the line. I used to think you were doing something good for section 1, and you WERE. It is very obvious now that you think you are some sort of god. Do you realize this? Probably not. Actually, absolutely not. You are oblivious. And you don’t know how it feels. I think it’s time to start looking for a new job. You don’t deserve this anymore. This is cheap press, and I would say that that is your specialty. Goodluck, and just know, you have one less person taking you seriously. And if that doesn’t matter to you, then god save you.
Ytown,
You are way out of line. It’s OK if you don’t like the article and it’s OK if you don’t feel like the subject is suitable material for this blog. Some would agree with you and obviously some do not.
Where you are really wrong is to think Kevin is blaming, holding responsible or in any way accusing a player for losing a game. I don’t know what article you have been reading to draw this conclusion.
While I have read your message several times, looking for something positive in what you are trying to say, frankly there is nothing positive in your views and I am convinced you are one of those with an axe to grind for press coverage that did not go your way at one point in time.
I find it pitiful that you would make such a personal attack towards anyone like you have…
Kevin—-Did Tierstien sign off on this? Keep bringing up a play that happened 9 months ago.Everybody has a bad moment and makes mistakes even you Kevin. Were you in the huddle ?Do you know the FG/EXPT scheme.Do you know what was in the kickers eyes and heart? Did you see the tape ?
10960-I’ll bet there is some tape of you !! Why don’t you join us at TACONIC !
Where is the real “KIETH FAGAN/R.Simmons” He knows all!!!
Ray Rice is on the cover of ESPN.com’s NFL section… http://espn.go.com/nfl/ ... they say he is one of the top 10 most underrated players
this whole situation is absolutely INSANE. i do feel that they shouldn’t let him be QB but at the same time its voluntary workouts, God forbid a kid enjoy his summer.
But the thing is they arent volentary workouts. It is a team rule that you have to have a certain attendance to play. McGee was completely aware of this since he has been on the team for two years And has also blown off his meetings with the coach. So he blew more then ne chance to get back on the team
S.S. Ouch!
I think the biggest supporter of Coach D has been Kevin Devaney. You never hear a critical comment about Coach D from Kevin. This article will not help their relationship though.
JUST A FACT
MY COMMENT WAS NOT TO BE DISRESPECTFUL IN ANYWAY,SHAPE OR FORM TO COACH D OR THE NEW RO FAMILY.
BUT TO THAT TOOL,
“KEITH FAGAN” ONLY!!!
The personal Shots have got to stop.
Let’s talk football.
I apologize for getting out of line myself.
Anyway, It’s not even August yet and we’ve been talking about this since the spring. How bout we wait it out and see what happens…
LETS TALK ABOUT THE CRIME THAT COACH RICARDO WRIGHT IS DOING TO MVHS FOOTBALL PLAYERS. HOW MANY YEARS ARE MV PARENTS GOING TO LET IT KEEP GOING ON??
FORMER PLAYERS FOR COACH WRIGHT ARE STARTING A PETITION TO HAVE HIM FIRED. GO TO http://WWW.FIRERICWRONG.COM-
HE IS THE WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO MVHS FOOTBALL. HE MUST GO. HE PROVIDES A VERY BAD ENVIRONMENT FOR THE GROWTH OF YOUNG MEN IN MOUNT VERNON. BUT AT THIS POINT MOUNT VERNON BOARD OF EDUCATION AS WELL AS CITY HALL HAVE BAD ENVIRONMENTS. TIME FOR MAJOR CHANGE. AND IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT CULTURAL,ECONOMIC BACKGROUND OR POLITICAL PARTY THEY BELONG TO. MV NEEDS HELP . PLEASE HELP US!!!!!!!!!!
DONT FORGET AMERICA. WE HAVE THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
WHEN SIGNS START POPPING UP AT MVHS FOOTBALL GAMES, I GUESS THE AD AND BOARD OF EDUCATION, WILL KNOW PEOPLE DONT LIKE WHATS GOING ON.
ALSO NEW RO , LET MCGHEE PLAY. IF HE COMES BACK FOR THE START OF CAMP – HE SHOULD PLAY, HE IS JUST A KID
EVEN THOUGH IT WONT MATTER WHO STARTS AGAINST MY OLD TEAM. GOSSHHH WE/HE SUCKS…...........WING RIGHT , WING LEFT, 100 RIGHT, 900 LEFT, TIRED OF THE OLD CRAP ALL READY. MVHS SHOULD JUST RUN THE OLD GREEN PACKER OFFENSE. WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF. AND I DONT APOLOGIZE.
Some of you need to think about where you are going with this. You talk about enhancing Section 1 FB but you are starting to put a crack in the full years programs. The reason Section 1 has faired so well is because the coaches/players are willing to put in the time.In some ways it has gotten out of hand.As well it has put coaches of different sports in the same districts at odds. You will see that football is going to be better earlier this fall. That is because of the long preseason and time enough for 2 scrimmages.
10960-Don’t ever catch fire near “Coach Cass” He may put you out with a Louisville Slugger!
It appears that 10960 has a bounty on his head now from the Nyack coaching staff and fans. He made need some body guards in order to make it through the season. You may also consider wearing a flak jacket all the time now.
Coach Cas might not like the whole blogging thing…. true story. He’s been against it since syracuse.com days….. true story. Cas did however do an interview for Kevin Devaney on this blog last year…. True Story!!!
Sucks to have someone like 10960 so far inside yet can’t be discovred all these years LOL…. true story. I’m a good guy though, It’s not like I’m spilling the beans on team secrets.
I’m simply here to not only talk football but promote Nyack football. I wouldn’t do anything to hurt the program. It’s sad if 10960 was considered locker room material for other teams. Obviously it wouldn’t help as we seen what happened last season.
Not Kieth Fagan,
why such a screen name??
3 yards,
I’ve had a bounty on my head for over 3 years!!! I was there when the blog turmoil began, it was hilarious.
wait until Christian Harold Road gets on here, you guys will call me an angel then.
You guys would be shocked to know how many Nyack Bloggers on here know 10960 and vice Versa!!! Collectively, there’s nothing that we don’t know…. but we do a good job keeping the forum (you guys) from knowing as well.
Hey ‘Not Kieth Fagan’ you sound a lot like a football coach yourself. You seem to defend coach D more than anyone in this thing. Heaven forbid anyone challenge a high school football coach!!!! I dno’t agree with Kevin either for writing this. But you seem to be one of those old school guys who thinks he’s allmighty!
ACCORDING TO THE ARTICLE. August 21 is the first official day of fall practice.
ON AUGUST 21 2009, WHOEVER SHOWS UP FOR PRACTICE SHOULD HAVE AN EQUAL OPPORUTUNITY TO BE A STARTER. HELLO PEOPLE, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TEENAGERS HERE. LET THEM ENJOY THEIR YOUTH.
10960,
You are not a mystery to me. I met you at the Burnt Hills game last year.
It was obvious to me because you talk the same way you blog.
WingTGuy,
Yea we established that last season LOL.
Class A South Rankings!
1 Rye
2 Eastchester
3 Roosevelt
4 Harrison
5 Saunders
With Rye and Eastchester making playoffs. Eastchester will be tested in week two when they play PK at home. Look for the eagles to start out slow on offense then to crank it up as time goes by.
Hey Funny,
You nailed it!Not allmighty! I wish though.
I am on both Coach Dirienzos side and this young mans side. This article is way beyond this young man and the New Rochelle program. The New Ro program is in the news the last 5 years.GET IT !!This is why the press for the most part is despised!
10960/wannabe/never was: If you catch fire,Jose will put you out with his size 13.5
Maxpreps recently ranked the top 5 teams in the state..can’t say i agree with some of the latter schools on the list. But hey, once september comes we’ll see whos who in ny football

Not Kieth Fagan,
YOU ARE GARBAGE ! GO AWAY
HA! I love how everyone is sooooo tough behind the computer. You accuse Kevin Devaney of talking to the kids online, myspace, facebook, etc. None of you COWARDS would talk to Kevin Devaney on there because you would have to expose your identity and actually let people know who you are. You all attend games and practices and keep quiet and then you come home and hide behind the screen. MAN UP, BOYS! (Except you Keith Fagan, you have been your real name since the start)
Kevin Devaney is the only one on here who is held accountable for his words and his opinions. The rest of you can just make a new name up and create a new personality. If anyone on here had any balls they would say what they have to say and sign their name to it. You are all pitiful, really.
Little Miss….And what is your name ? Thats Kevins job moron !
10960 Do you know what the “PUCKER FACTOR” is ?
See you on CHR.
Kisckoff 09 – Rooservelt before Harrison! I dont think so..
” not kieth fagan”
is the coach at new ro high school. if any of you guy’s here this guy talk you will know how much he thanks he is coach d third son. and he will not let you get a word in edgewise against new ro football. let alone coach d! forget about it.
what a real jerk!!!!
Kevin,
Come back to earth! This is a high school kid. 90% of what you have in your blog on him is complete speculation. Again you are reporting on high school kids. The name is Mcghee not Favre.
Not Kieth Fagan,
Why are you so obsessed with the 10960 brand??
Sounds like Envy to me. You want the name??
JOHN GIOMI
NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!!! THIS A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL BLOG….. OR IS IT NOT?????
10960, you have a lot of enemies. I mean it is obvious to me you do not know much about football except for what you read. But seriously, what the heck did you do to piss off everyone?
10960
The way things are going Nyack might be more disliked than Iona. LOL..
10960 If you catch fire today,Ramponi can put you out with an axe!
Has anybody ever seen Kieth Fagan and Richard Simmons at the same place ? Has Malone lost any weight? The new health care bill is going be tough on the obese.
NKF
NKF that was funny!
10960 aka blog police. You should be more worried about Just a Fact getting a hold of you, then what people write on a blog. Not one snap yet and you have already managed to be the most hated blogger. Oh and stop with the “lol” after your comments. The comments aren’t funny. The only thing funny is envisioning you running away from Jose, Ramponi, Just a Fact and BIG JOE
I’m glad that I can make such an impact. Only a blogger such as 10960 can redirect the topic about about himself without trying.
I’m not going to call you my haters, More like my groupies.
oh and…... “LOL”
has any one ever seen Not Kieth Fagan and Horace Greeley Head Coach Bill Tribou at the same place? Oh wait, yes you have, because they are one in the same person. Bill, you should know that email addresses and IP Addresses give you away. You are a coward. If you have something bad to say about people, man up and say it to their face, instead of running around on an internet blog and saying it on here. Go have another beer and tell some more lies about how you served in ”’Nam”, meanwhile you never stepped foot in the country. What a loser, no wonder the Greeley program has seen a steady decline the last couple of years. Oh wait, why don’t you threaten to leave again until you get what you want. Actually that won’t work this time because they would love to see you leave. And go ahead and deny it’s you, but computers and IP addresses don’t lie, so don’t even bother, it has been confirmed it’s you. Go ahead and call the Journal News to complain, but it’s too late, your “secret” is out. What a loser. A high school football coach with nothing better to do than come on here and take cheap shots at people. At least the “Real Keith Fagan” posts under his real name, you should take a lesson Tribou.
I have to add….. it strikes me how Bloggers take the time out of their day to write about someone they dont know!! It’s a football forum yet I’m the topic of discussion.
Not Kieth Fagan, Just a Fact, go deep
this could never happen to you guys because on this blog and probably in life….”probably since I don’t know you”.....Your Nobodies!!! Nobody would care about what you say as much as what I say…. so you run no risk of criticism.
Only a few bloggers catch everyones eye like I’m catching yours.
10960
Iona Power
wing T Guy
John Malone/section 1 guy
Riley Girl
Chief Wild Eagle
Jax
Jim
LetsGoNewRo
Kevin Devaney
Franko cuts
Big Joe (the guys whom you say is gunning for me)
And A few more I haven’t mentioned
Put names like that in a blog and you’ll get a strong dialogue about “FOOTBALL”...not “10960”.
But with time comes trash, eventually you all get filtered out. My last response toward you guys….Back to football.
Wow shocker.. and un-funny post by sheriff 10960. I love how you speak in the third person. Now that is LOL worthy. Like you said earlier, stick to football. Your attempt at comedy is failing miserably and your snide “tude” has offended many people already. Which is sad considering this is a blog!
Coach Bill Tribou???
No way!!!
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha “LOL”
I can’t take it.
It all makes sense…. Tribou does have a good relationaship with coach cas….. No wonder he was somehow pulling out cards.
wow…... thats a shame… tribou did always envy Cas and his program…. if it’s true then it all makes sense…. anything even remotely related to Nyack he’ll drool over… even a blogger named “10960”......
Back to football for good this time…. although that is a breakthrough football discovery!!!
Your a loser or 10960, did you just blog to yourself. hahahahahahhahhahahahhahahhahahahahhahahahhah
lololololololoolololololol
By the way you have to be good at football to know something about it. You rode the bench WATER BOY!!!!!!!!!
10960, I guess Tribou sucked at coaching as well? You are a true football expert because taking a bunch of nobodies and getting to the playoffs in your first year of AA is easy when you have Horace Greeley talent. Right????
Tribou would not piss on you even if you were on fire.
YOU ARE REEEAAAALLL SMART, but I am sure you will tell us AGAIN, how smart you are. lol.
Oh and watch out for Jose, in case you did not hear, he is after you.
“Not Kieth Fagan, Just a Fact, go deep”
The guys that exposed 10960 for what he is.
A nobody! A nobody on the football field, a no body on this blog, a no body in life. I would say go hide in the closet because Jose is coming.
But maybe the real problem is you need to come out of the closet!
If ” Not Kieth Fagan” is coach Tribou and some jack a$$ out there knows this, it happened by one of the three scenario’s:
1. Kevin Devaney told someone
2. Keith Fagan is close to Devaney and has pass codes to this blog
3. 10960 works for the journal news and is the Rockland wanna be of Kevin Devaney. I am sure someone here knows the bums name. I personally do not care.
Anyone else with some scenario’s?
To the football part of the post. Tribou is a great coach but it’s pretty sad if he’s the one on the blog attacking me.
Is that all you can remember?? You must be a double AA guy.
Greeley going up to Double AA west and winning the league chip is excellent. They had good years leading up to that.
I remember Greely defeating a stacked Nyack team in the section championship…. a Nail biter in 2001. That was the only miss the Nyack kicker had all year.
Horace Greeley went all the way to the state championship that year and lost to Rochester Aquinas. The crazy part is that the following year… Nyack would go to the dome and also be defeated by Rochester Aquinas.
Thats football talk. Tribou is an excellent coach.
Before the opening day of football you can bet the New Rochelle problem will be solved for the good of the kid and the school. I cannot beleive that QB is being held out because of a few missed meetings. I beleive it is much deeper then that. Let the Coaches and the powers to be decide what is best for the kid and the program.
10960 BOHICA
You CANNOT hold his missing off season workouts, meetings and practices against him! This is HS football, not college, not the NFL. If he shows up on August 21 and is the best at his position (which he is) then he is your starting QB.
John, wellput.
These coaches that want to make high school football into a full time job, go coach college football.
10960 I just read your other post. You are the biggest internet jerk off I have ever seen. Apparently a goal of yours to be the coolest blogger on Lohud.com. Only a man with low intelligence or a young punk strives for that. And what’s even more pathetic is you are failing!
Don’t put people like Iona Power, Big Joe or even Franco Cuts with you. They are of different caliber. You are a classless punk whose goal is to try and prove people wrong, not have an actual discussion on football. You only fool yourself.
In reality you are a college kid who lives in the past. Wishing that you could go back to Nyack and play a down, not just serve water to the starters.
Football anyone??
THE THING ABOUT 10960 IS THAT HE’S AN ARROGANT JERK OFF WHO THINKS HE KNOWS IT ALL. I SEE WHY YOU GUYS ARE GETTING AT HIM. I SEEN THE PRE CAMP RANKINGS WHERE HE DISCREDITS EVERYONES COMMENT BY ASKING QUESTIONS. HE DID THIS LAST YEAR AS WELL. GO DEEP IS RIGHT I THINK HE WANTS TO BE THE COOLEST BLOGGER. I DO GIVE 10960 CREDIT FOR HIS RANKINGS LAST YEAR AND FOR OUT GUESSING HIS IDLE KEVIN DEVANEY. I WILL SAY HE’S A POPULAR BLOGGER TOO WHICH WENT TO HIS HEAD ESPECIALLY WHEN KEVIN DEVANEY POSTED A FEW BLOGS WITH 10960 MENTIONED IN THEM AND EVEN OFFERED TO BUY THE GUY A COFFEE. IT GOES TO HIS HEAD. ONE TIME 10960’S RANKING GOT MORE FEEDBACK THEN DEVANEY!!! BLOGGING MUST BE YOUR LIFE MAN. WHERE DO YOU GET THE TIME?? WING T GUY I SEEN 10960 AT THE BURNT HILLS GAME TOO. NEXT TIME I SEE HIM AT A GAME HE’S GETTING EXPOSED!!! HE WAS ON THE SIDELINES AT THE 1ST NYACK AND OSSINING GAME. POOR NYACK COACHES HAD NO IDEA IF THEY DID HE WOULD BE BANNED!!! IT’S ABOUT TIME PEOPLE STARTED SPEAKING OUT AGAINST THIS GUY.
Go deep,
The caliber of 10960.
who cares?? this is no popularity contest.
Have I been significant to football on this blog….. I would hope so.
I like to contribute but not trying to be popular… if anything…. you guys who are attacking me are making “10960” bigger then it needs to be.
I’d like to think i’m a high caliber contributor to a side hobby I have which is H.S. football blogging.
How many Bloggers get mentioned on Devaney story entries like me anyway?
click the following links to see what “10960” is about
http://varsityinsider.lohudblogs.com/?s=10960
http://www.youtube.com/user/10960Nyack
read this quote by kevin devaney himself
“Think whatever you want about my feelings towards Nyack because I honestly don’t care. The only thing I do pay attention to comes from 10960, which I tell people is “my best friend who I’ve never met.”
it’s in the topic bridge hoping first link
All kidding aside, you are nothing more than a young punk who thinks 10960 is some sort of character. You are a mockery to most and only a savior to yourself. And if getting mentioned on a blog is some sort of a prize, you should re-assess your priorities in life.
What you are about is only listening to yourself and trying to prove people wrong. Last year you were the bozo that went back after Nyack had that great run and started re-posting your early season comments..hmmmm I wonder why you were doing that??? See THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT.
Oh and lastly, the fact that you think getting attacked makes you bigger in a blog world shows your maturity level. You are a simpleton.
10960- Do you think posting links where you got mentioned makes you look cool? You are coming across as a real tool. Go Deep hit the nail on the head. Get a life bro
“What you are about is only listening to yourself and trying to prove people wrong.”
Wow thats so cool you say that. I’m actually a second year law student.
Thats such a Co inky dink!!!
OOOUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah man 10960 snuck in a post before I could respond to section 1.
Section 1 love the post!
10960,
I knew you sucked at football. Hopefully you do better with Law. You sound like your cut out for it, because most lawyers are jacka$$ that like to hear themselves talk!
We’ve steered so far away from football.
section 1…. I respect what you and Go deep bring to the table.
Go deep was one…. but I figured he’s wrong to be butting in. Now that you and Go deep are attacking….. I figure maybe it’s me.
Go deeps first attack on me
“10960 you bring a lot to the table. But next time you want to preach about being respectful, at least do it BEFORE you have just told someone to hop off your nuts! You look foolish.”
I see where I began to get annoying…. understandable. I called people a hipocrite earlier then became one myself.
the charge was led by “Not kieth Fagan” then “Just a fact” whom already disliked me…. seen the opportunity to jump in and gang up. “Go deep” out of nowhere attacks by calling me a jerk off which shocks me then….. section 1 whom I respect as well….. attacks me.
look im not good at these internet ego battles. So you guys win…. and I lose….. I without a doubt lose bad…...very bad.
I would like to now talk football but I wait out all the bad comment about me that are probably in the making…... afterward…. we can talk football. hopefully
Here is the real question…Is 10960 really practicing law at a credible university or is he
1) Residing in his parents basement, wearing dresses and striving to be the best blogger in the universe.
2) Getting a life size poster of Kevin made with the caption “10960 is my best friend who I never met” next to the mouth
3)Still sending in his Freshman HS videos to coach Cas asking why on earth he never made the varsity.
c’mon guys questions, comments, attacks on 10960…..... I’m waiting…..... let it rip…... I want the most thorough assault you can deliver…..... then lets talk football. I want you guys to get it all out of your system so football can finally prevail.
go deep,
that was a good one….. especially with the dresses…. I like it…. more guys c’mon!!!
hahahahahahaha Go deep that was classic. Number 2 is my favorite. 10960 solid post. We will go back to football. First I have to finishing laughing!
ok 10960 I respect your post and I appreciate your sense of humor. So lets bury the hatchet and move on. Last year’s Nyack players, did any of them go on to play in college? I know “boot” went up to Cortland. What about Anthony and Dominic..anything?
What a coward! So to recap, you create enemies with your blogs and now you want to cry about it? Waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!
I agree, back to football
Sounds good, Back to football
What do you guys think about the rumor… true rumor that Ramapo is the fastest team in doubla AA??
I believe they had 2 recent 7 on 7’s. One of’em just yesterday. I know the other day they were supposed to have one at North Rockland. They have 2 all section track stars as well.
I believe Mike Abelard is the section champion in the 200 meter sprint. He’ll be returning.
10960- any info on what go deep wrote about last years players? here is an article on that QB from Burnt Hills. Thought it might interest you.
http://stanhudy.blogspot.com/2009/03/burnt-hills-qb-paul-layton-to-kick-at.html
10960 Be careful at the gas station !Lots of flammable stuff around !
Where the hell is the “Crazy Dragon” when you really need him? He’ll need this debate once and for all.
football Giant,
I honestly don’t know where Dom or Ant Davis is going. I’ll see if I can find out.
Q: How did I know “not kieth fagan” was Bill Tribou?
A: Because he’s the only dumbass who can’t spell in Chappaqua.
You’re a sad old man. Retire already. It’s too bad Cas is actually close with this guy. Bring’s Cas’ credibility down.
10960 If you catch fire around Rhiengold. He can put you out with his fist.
NKF is no longer. It has been fun.
To Not Kieth Fagan,
Do you think Brewster can beat Somers, Poughkeepsie, Greeley, or the mighty Rye. Supposdly there talking mad smack about these teams. How would you rate Brewster as a team this year.
NKF do not go!
Since football is a couple weeks away, I think it is time to address a non football item now.
I think when Kevin gets back from his vacation he will need to address the possible breach of this blog. Again, assuming so jacka$$ knew who “Not Keith fagan” was, all of us need to know how. It needs to be addressed here in an open forum. Again my take it is one of three scenario’s
1. Kevin Devaney told someone
2. Keith Fagan is close to Devaney and has pass codes to this blog (NKF did say some bad things about him)
3. One of the bloggers here works for the journal news.
I personally do not have a problem with us all exposing our names, but that is not the case. You are supposed to be able to blog in anonymity. Now when someone does like certain blogs, their name will be exposed? Based on whose call?
Kevin I think this needs to be addressed. Anyone else?
Maybe coaches shouldn’t be yellow-bellied snakes and post on a blog and they won’t get their stuff blown up.
The amount of courage that this guy has adds up to the fact that he was probably a cook in the military. He certainly didn’t see any real time because he’s a phony.
The closest battle he’s ever seen is listening to the marketing agents of Rogaine and Just For Men.
Just a Fact, whoever said “You are supposed to be able to blog in anonymity.” When you personally attack someone you should be man enough to say who you are. I have never posted under my real name, but then again, I never personally attack anyone. Once you personally attack anyone, you lose your “right” to anonymity. This wouldn’t be a problem if people used some common sense and just posted about the issue, not the people. My take is this. Kevin will never have people post under their real names. If you’ve been a long time blog follower like me, you’ll remember when this blog switched formats, people thought they had to put their real names on their posts, and posts slowed to a crawl. So, it’s bad for business. But, here’s what should happen. Kevin should do a much better job of policing this blog. Anyone who posts personal attacks should be banned, period. Stick to the issues. I for one could care less what not kieth fagan thinks about 10960, or why he chose that idiotic screen name. I want to hear about high school football and basketball, and what teams people think are better, what players are the best, etc. Why do we attack fellow posters? it’s insane. Especially when most if not all of the “attackers” would NEVER say the stuff they say on here to the other people’s faces. Who cares how someone found out Coach Tribou was posting, I for one am glad, maybe he, and others, will be too afraid to make personal attacks in the future and all that crap will stop. I for one think he should be very embarrassed and ashamed, what about you? And, if I were a Greeley parent, I would have serious thoughts about that man coaching my kids, and he would certainly have to explain his actions to me and others. Just a fact, are you a parent? Would you like a person who would personally attack others on a blog around your children? Have you attacked anyone on here? Do you like reading that crap? Anonymity makes cowards of us all. And, if your so brave sir, what’s your real name?
Im not one to say if that is coach Tribou, however, I do know that he has posted in the past( it might have been on Syracuse.com) under his real name. Knowing the man he is and the way he presents himself, I highly doubt that he would not use his real name. Devaney knows many of the posters names by their email address. All he would have to do to find out my name is look at my email name.
More importantly, is that great QB from Cornwall back (Arduino)? Because Kevin said that Rye will lose to Otown and then make the Dome. No way they beating Cornwall. \That kid is tremendous and Cuse better be going all out for he and Scalo.
Arduino graduated
Riley.. 10960 is right, Arduino graduated, he is going to prep school(Trinity). 10960 from what I hear neither of them are going to school at all. So I was hoping that was incorrect!
rileygirl,
what’s your email? i’ll prove it’s him.
rileygirl….crazy right? but trust me, it was him. scary. very scary. and even if you didn’t believe me, the fact that he didn’t deny it speaks volumes. what i’d love to know is what did the real keith fagan and 10960 do to piss him off, but knowing that character, prolly nothing, the guy is three cents short of a nickel brain. too much agent orange hanging out at the supply depot no doubt. and what the hell is Just a Fact doing jumping in on this guys side, that guy’s gotta be an idiot to do that! But like i said, lemme kno yur email (or anyone else who isn’t a believer) and i can prove it.
Right to Anonymity,
I hope you are not Keith Fagan, because that would be just real sad for you.
The current rule is you have a right to anonymity and I do not care what is written on here, you should not be exposed, because someone did not like the post. If you can’t take the heat get out of the kitchen. Period!
With that said, the blogs should not be used to attack someone. So yes Kevin needs to better police these blogs (though I do not know where he would get the time.
But back to the REAL ISSUE which it seems you tried to avoid. How did this breach happen. All bloggers on here have a right to know.
Plus I will sign up tomorrow to have all of our names out there. Right behind you of course.
Tribou Out of his mind
“The amount of courage that this guy has adds up to the fact that he was probably a cook in the military. He certainly didn’t see any real time because he’s a phony.”
You make this statement and yet I do not see your name anywhere. Your attack on Tribou lacks courage and to me you are the obvious phony.
I take back what I said above. “Right to Anonmytiy” is obviously 10960. 10960 stop using multiple screen names please.
Just a fact,
Your obsessed with me.
I had nothing to do with the above post.
whatever happened to getting back to football??
I come on here to check the blog out and there it is, another post on 10960.
Can I breath??
Just a Fact, this is “Right to Annonymity??”. My Name is Stephen Brown, and I live in Shrub Oak, NY. My son played high school football several years ago, and I have followed section 1 football ever since. You are a little twisted accusing multiple people on here of my post. I have posted under many names like I said; Class A Fan, hsfootball fan, section 1 fan, etc. I post under different names depending on the topic of my post. Hence, the Right to Annonymity post. I’ve gone back and carefully read the last several days of your posts, and I see now why you objected to my post so much. You are an “attacker” yourself! It’s probably why you didn’t see that I DID answer your question in my post, you were so geared up to attack who you thought was making the post you didn’t even bother to read the damn thing! I COULD CARE LESS how someone found out Coach Tribou was posting malicious comments, only that he was exposed for what he was. Whichever one of your scenarios is correct I could care less, as long as the poeple who attack others on here are exposed. For all those loyal high school football and basketball fans out there that are sick and tired of at least having to start reading the endless, sensless, juville, cowardly personal attack posts I say GOOD! Now, will you remain true to your word ”...I will sign up tomorrow to have all of our names out there. Right behind you of course.” Now that I have “outed” myself, or are you going to run behind your monitor and hide? Better yet, how about this. How about you just cease and desist all “attack” posts, and just stick to the issues. Here’s a question for you. Why do you think that Sal Sulla is the key to putting North Rockland over the top of New Rochelle. Wouldn’t it be the offensive line that would be the key?
3 weeks fellas!
Stephen Brown, I must admit you do have a pair of ba$$$. You do deserve credit for that, at the least.
So that means your son went to Lakeland. Curious, what year?
As to your post we will have to agree to disagree.
I do not care what the post, if there is a breach on this blog then we all need to know how. Period!
I do not even know Tribou so I have looked at this objectively. One question, have you? Do you have a history with Tribou? After reading your posts, it certainly sounded like it. So that is why I thought it was 10960, but I WAS WRONG!!!!!
10960 SORRY!
You or I, do not get to choose who is allowed on this blog or what the terms are going to be. The decision is Kevin’s. His blog. It was his choice to allow us all to blog in anonymity. If this is going to change KEVIN should be the one to decide not some jerk off on a witch hunt.
If Kevin deems someone is out of line, kick him off the blog. That simple. It is easy to block e-mails and IP addresses. It is not rocket science.
You can read all my posts. I usually blog about football only. Once in a while when someone is out of line attacking a kid, I usually call them out on it. Other than that maybe a rebuttal to someone that disagrees with me.
Back to football. This is based on history, but North Rockland always seems to have a strong line. The years they have great running backs, they do very well. I had a previous post that I felt Ramapo never has a good line. I base this on what I have seen for 20+ years, but I will take it one step further. In 2006 when Ramapo had the QB, Obi and Malvert, if those three were on North Rockland, would New Ro ever have a shot against them? My belief is no! This year some have stated Sulla is a beast. I have not seen him play. If he is the real deal my contention is New Ro will be the only team with a chance to stop them. But let the season begin so I can be poroven wrong! 10960 is counting on it.
Well The QB Ike Illegbu which was Obi Ezemmas Cousin from Ramapo actually caused Ramapos downfall. He had alot of hype but he fumbled 4 times at the snap alone against Clarkstown South which put an end to the Ramapo unbeaten record that year. That was a loss that came back to haunt them because they missed the playoffs.
Ramapo runs a wing T. They need fast gaurds and big tackles. Ramapo doesn’t need the type of O’line that over powers. With that being said, It’s amazing how Ramapo has had a fair share of prominant fullbacks over the last decade.
With North Rockland, a dominant fullback helps but the O’line makes or breaks the season. “EVERYONE” on the O’line needs to have good size and strength when running a Power I. North Rockland Must win the battle at the line of scrimmage to succeed. If they get jammed up then Sulla is forced to run lateral which is bad for an offense geared to be run north.
Veer type offenses like the Wing T are made for teams with not so dominant linemen. I feel that Ramapos ex-coach Vitolo didn’t utilize his wing backs in the past. If your running an offense designed to attack by way of mis-direction and speed then you should use your fast players more often then not.
Ramapo has the right personel for their offensive needs. When coach Dan Zotter took over, the Wing T was used in the way it was designed to be used. The fast pulling gaurds, the decent Tackles and the speedy wing backs.
When it comes down to it…... If your school traditinally runs Wing-T then your school traditionally doesn’t have the greatest line. Always keep in mind “why” an offense like the wing T was ever invented.
In college and NFL football, the personel must cater to the offense but in High school the Offense must cater to the personel.
Speaking of the Line.
What team do you think has had the best line in the last 10 years??
I’m going with North Rockland 2001
Followed by Harrison 2006
Then Spring Valley 2004
Of recent, you would have to mention New Ro line of 2003. I am sure North Rock line back when they had Derric Lassic and Cameron Williams would have to be mentioned as a possible top 10.
10960,.
Just for clarity on your post above about the wing-t, the full back in the wing-t is usually your best back. The full back in a wing -t would usually be the tail back in the power I or I. So all those good rb’s from Ramapo would be sitting 8 yards away from the ball with a lead blocker and a good o-line. Obi and Malvert would have had a field day on the competition if they went to North Rock.
Also the wing-t was designed for undersized lineman. I for one think you can still have a very good line even if you are under sized at the guard and center positions. I agree, you do need some big tackles though. New Ro 2003 o-line, ran the wing-t and should be considered top 10 of all time.
10960,.

just a fact you just repeated ecerything 10960 said and second place should go to rye 06 for kicking harrison butt that year hoo Ra!!!!
Mr Brown, I remember your son like yesterday. He was the qb and Okeefe was the great young TB, I have tapes from my and your sons senior year when the local news would do highlights and features on the local teams . Myself and your son were on a number of them. Your son was a great athlete. Big and fast. I remember hearing that he tore his hamstring off the bone and that put a hamper on college. I dont know about the give and take of all these posts but the name Steve Brown brings me back to the fall of ‘91
10960- Does 99 Harrison Line count? They were big athletic and awesome. The tackle, cant remember his name, went and played at Wisconson….Repeat – the game was only 19 – 18 and Rye of course got all the breaks. I just watch the game. I couldnt believe how many momentum breakers Dino Garr gets! Dino must give all the refs reach arounds before the game! Isnt Dino Garr the President of the Referee Association
92 Husky,
I dont know much about 99’ Harrison. I especially don’t know about their line.
What I do know is that Harrison had a dominant reign those years. I know that they won 2 out of 3 state championships in a span of 5 years. They dominated from 98’ till 02’.
Can you tell us about the linemen they had those years…..about the program as a whole?? why were they so successful and what happened to the program recently??
For heaven’s sake !
I go on vacation for a few days and what do I find ?
A gang assault on 10960. What for people ?
Personally I find 10960 very humorous and very knowledgeable but that isn’t why I am writing this comment.
Guys this isn’t a popularity contest. This is a blog about High school football. And with football as with most everything, not everyone is going to agree. So instead of trash talking about someone just because your viewpoints are different can’t you just agree to disagree, or be adults and have a mature debate. I see now that the childish posts have died down so this is just for future reference I suppose.
And to answer your question 10960 I would have to say that New Ro’s line of 2003 was one of the best.
Andre Douglas has just signed with the Cowboys . How about that NewRo team? Whats Mcdermott doing now?
Yes Andre Douglas was a superstar.
He was part of the 2003 team
MCDermott is getting ready to play basketball overseas, trying for Spain or Ialy.
tribou,
it was snafu then the situation was fubar. When the boss arived it was clearly gonna be a bohica moment. GREELEY
