Brailsford highlight tape

I got back last night after a great trip down to North Carolina. After an hour or so of rummaging through the comments section of the blog, there was something I needed to pass along.
In case you missed it, check out Devonte Brailsford’s highlight tape on ESPN.com by clicking here. It’s awesome. The Dobbs Ferry senior is a far more physical player than I thought he was. Some of the hits he has on here, as a running back and defensive end, are jaw-dropping.
Watch it all the way through. It’s impressive.

hes an animal
he is good. good luck in his recruiting
he runs with a sign on his chest that says “f—k me up”
Kevin,
You do such a great job staying in touch with basketball players about their recruitment, how about contacting some of the top players to at least get a preliminary school list…I’m sure a lot of readers would like to hear what schools are showing interest in players like Brailsford, Mack, and Deina
there is no coverage on recruits and schools, and i bet that is one of the big reasons more big schools dont recruit section 1 as much…so much of it is HYPE, which starts with the media! journal news is lacking in this area…hype it up kev!
Over rated Sir Talor kick the snot out of him last year
jack mehoff. if would have said that, they would have jump me. cause he doesnt play for iona prep. but chest is up pretyy good.
Husker or anyone , where is Sir Taylor going to college?
football giant – your vacuum cleaner. suckin up.
IMpressive !
Can Definataly play at the next Level!!
Good luck this SEASON Brailsford
Alford state for two years than i would bet some big time college
thanks for the info Husker. Nice to hear.
Iona.. You are a classless punk who brings nothing to the table. Do us all a favor and go put on your Iona cheerleeding skirt. Then go play in oncoming traffic.
any Section 1 combine
updates!
any standouts
This guys stands straight up. If he does not learn to lower his shoulder he will get his head knocked off at the next level.
Thank Goodness for Childrens Village.
I have watched section 1 football for over 30 years (since my playing days). This kid has talent and could play for a 1AA school. The best high school players that I have personally witnessed over the years in no particular order are Art Monk (White Plains / Syracuse) Derrick Lassic (North Rockland / Alabama) Matt Bernstein (Edgemont / Wisconsin) / Nigel Morris (Nyack / Toledo) Ed Ruppert (Clarkstown North / Louisville) Karl Ballard (Clarkstown South / Colorado State) Keith Bulluck (Clarkstown North / Syracuse) Kelvin Smith (North Rockland / Syracuse). All these players were outstanding in both high school and college. Keith Bulluck is the best high school player I have had the pleasure of seeing with Nigel Morris a close second.
3 Yards… I have seen all those players as well. A few other older stand outs that come to mind are Jermaine Harris(Nyack/Amer Int) Cameron Day(N. Rock/Maryland),Roger Graham(Spring Valley/New Haven-won the Harlan Hill).Jeff Nichols(Ramapo/Grambling)
So newer players have to be Trevor Dimmie(Sleepy/Hofstra). He was a beast. The other stars like Ray Rice, Courtney Greene, etc are well known.
I negelected the New Ro kids. They are in a class by themselves. We will be lucky in our lifetime to see a team that had Rice, Greene, McDermott and Lee come along again.
Two individuals that had it all and let it slip away was Sammy Maldanado because of his attitude at Maryland and John Harvey (Spring Valley / UTEP), Harvey was just on the verge of something special with the Tampa Bay Bucaneers, but drugs destroyed him and now he is in jail for a very long time. A truly sad story.
good.list from both you old guys. not bad
Agree with everything you wrote. It is very unfortunate that the examples you gave are very common. Sammy and John Harvey are not alone.
Let’s also give some props to the Nanuet team that went unscored upon( I think it was 89). I don’t care who they played against, it is a ridiculous accomplishment. This is something that will most likely never happen again!
One kid that has been forgotten and we’ll see how good he is this year is Mickey Mangeri from Fox Lane. He will get significant minutes this year at UNH after a sucessful year last year. We don’t have too many section one football players playing at the Div one level, and Mickey is one that is forgotten about but will surprise this year. I hope.
A lot of rbs and qbs above. What about some line men?
3 YARDS AND A CLOUD OF DUST
I like your list of old school players, but you forgot a name that any old school fan would DEF have on this list, and its Harold Gayden (Sleepy Hollow/Syracuse)
Nice tape.. now for the real question. How are his grades?
I have seen kids in westchester with better tapes but lousy grades not get a sniff at any level
There was a guy who played in the late 80s for white plans than the serycuse and even drafted by the giants he was a D tackle. To say the new ro boys are in a class of there own and to put art Monk on the other list is foolish he is the best player in section history
One player no mentioned was jimmy kennedy from roosevelt who played for penn state and then was a first round pick for the rams. Also brian cummings who was a qb back in the nineties for iona ended up starting 3 years for maryland and then played in the cfl
I have been watching HS football for over 50 years….NO ONE WAS A BETTER HS PLAYER THAN SAMMY MALDONADO….NO ONE. He was a man physically in 8th grade. We should never judge a player’s high school career by his college or professional accomplishments….. BUT…. Sammy was one of only two freshmen not to get red shirted at Ohio State as a rookie, and was the back up tailback that first year. The future couldn’t have looked brighter. We all know that Sammy was a bad boy in Columbus, but a new system was instituted before Sammy’s sophomore season by new coach Jim Tressel negating the need for big tail back Sammy (and his personal problems). Bye Bye Sammy. To Sammy’s credit, he straightened out his act and became a two year starter at Maryland (missing a the bulk of a third season due to injury). Much of the credit for this transformation goes to Terps Coach Ralph Freidgen and his assistant, Dave Solazzo, who are both from Harrison. Solazzo actually became Sammy’s shadow at Maryland, overseeing Sammy’s every move. Sammy was recruitted by just about everybody. Amoung others, Joe Paterno himself, recruitted Sammy for Penn State. Word has it that Sammy’s father was highly insulted that JoePa wanted to make Sammy a linebacker. Imagine that. And despite all that went wrong after HS…in High School…the combination of size and speed he demonstrated on the field will always live in local lore. I can’t believe anyone could rattle off 10-12 names and not mention Sammy.
Its real ez because he was a juice head like the majority of Harrison football players. Another great hs lineman that I can’t believe I forgot (cause he knocked the snot out of me) is Jimmy Kennedy rosavelt penn state drafted number 5 to the rams
Jim… Sammy was mentioned twice. He was an amazing player. Iona Power and Husker, great read on Jimmy Kennedy. He was a man amongst boys during HS
football giant
Jimmy Kennedy was simply unblockable- He was lucky that he had a good coach in Dematteo that helped him through the recruiting process.
Another player who had great ability but had no one around him was Nealon Greene from Lincoln who played for Clemson-
Huskers, take it easy on Sammy and juice, otherwise you are going to have throw in a lot of the best players that have come out of this area ( even players that stunk, lol). If baseball is rampant with juice, common sense should prevail here. I do not know how the NFL has avoided problems, but at some point their luck will run out.
n
need alot of work.runs the ball like the level he is playing on.
great point about Dematto. Nealon Greene was a sick athlete! Seth Joyner was another amazing player.
Husker98,
George Rooks is the player that you are talking about. He was a 2nd Team USA Today All American in 1988 and played for Syracuse. Rooks was about 6-4, 290lbs in high school. I remember watching White Plains and Roosevelt during warm ups. One of the Roosevelt kids ran by Rooks and gave him a nudge to his shoulder. The next time the Roosevelt player came around, Rooks laid into him with his shoulder and the kid flew back about five feet and landed flat on his back. He was an intimidating player! Rooks fell to the 5th round in the NFL Draft because he contracted the flu and lost quite bit of weight and was not able to workout. He’s very successfull now and is still a great guy. Rooks never flaked out when it came to academics and received his degree from Syracuse.
