Frank commits to UConn

July
2

I’m down in North Carolina this week – visiting friends and celebrating my 29th (gasp) birthday, which was yesterday. But I wanted to mention that Poughkeepsie coach Ken Barger emailed me to say Poughkeepsie football star Reuben Frank has committed to play at UConn.

Frank, a defensive end, will be a senior this season. He had offers from Syracuse and Buffalo.

You can watch Frank’s highlight tape by clicking here.

I’ll provide more information when I return this weekend. Hopefully I can get in touch with Reuben and write something up here.

Potown comes to Eastchester so we will get an up close view of Franks. Should be fun to watch. Looks very fast.

    To go eagles

Potown plays like animals they will be your best competition this year

  5. ionaprep crazed

is potown in a or aa?

  6. jojo

Not impressed at all with that video of Frank. He only had one sack all season? he runs well, but he looks like a future bench warmer. His best asset right now is his GPA.

Randy Edsall has a habit of taking under the radar types and making them into good college football players. My bet is that he’ll do the same for Franks! Congratulations to Reuben Franks! Receiving a D-1 scholly for football in the state of NY is an excellent accomplishment.

  8. HSFB Guy

Poughkeepsie is believed to be in the A-North league for the upcoming season, just like Eastchester who is in A-just another league lol…

and Randy Edsall does do a good job with players of all types…Pretty sweet to be in the Big East playing football, especially at one of the up and coming programs in the conference

i agree with jojo. frank doesnt look that good, big guy who likes to arm tackle. maybe he will tryout for the basketball team at uconn. on defense he looks soft. Gadson is much better then him. and hilton has more heart then him. uconn should stop haten on the iona prep kids. they passed on ray rice and look what happen. ray ran all over uconn. they betta take mack or he will do the same. and i know ray was not at iona prep.

I had enough of North Korea, Iran, Michael Jackson, and the Great Recession. I want my Section 1 Football.

    ionaprep crazed just curious,

Do you honestly think hilton is a d1 player? I have seen him play for 3 years, and he does have great instincts and agility as a linebacker. However, he is no where close to d1 size for that position. I’m not sure about his coverage skills, but the only position he could be d1 size for is safety, and schools would much rather take a kid who has already played that position. I mean this as no disrespect to hilton, as i think hes a very good lb, its just there is no reason for ionaprep craze to throw him and other iona players into a thread which should be about congratulating the first kid in a while from section 1 to get a big east scholarship.

  12. ionaprep crazed

i didnt say hilton was a d1 LB , the point i was making is hilton in franks body”wow” , hilton has more heart,

hilton will get his college looks and be fine. i was really shootin down uconn. this blog is freedom of speech so i say almost what i want. i only saw franks hilights and wasnt impressed. i like people that lay into people, make hits. not grabbing and pulling on tackles. but franks congrats and good luck.

  13. 10801

Hilton is a great kid, but you have no idea about frank, as all you know about him is this 4 minute highlight video. How can you possibly make the claim that hilton has more heart based on that when your very obviously biased?

  14. statesman

Is he a Charles Spencer, Shonda Faulkner or Matt Featherston? Absolutely not, but he is a great kid with good grades. I wish him the best in his future endeavors. Always great to see a PK kid make it to the next level.

Please share with the Blog the D1 scholarships you received. Thanks

  16. go eagles

The Donald, I was going to wirte that.

I know lots of kids that would have taken that scholly and run. Good job Mr. Frank.

    Happy (belated) 29th Birthday, Kevin…

I definitely didn’t see this coming; congratulations to Reuben Frank on becoming the second Poughkeepsie linebacker in this decade to earn a D-1A/FBS football scholarship (Matt Featherson of Texas A&M was the first)...

  19. LI Football

How many guys each year from Westchester get D-1 A looks. Maybe 2 on a good year ! Sometimes none. Highlight film might get coaches interested , but really does not mean squat. They want to see full games. They want to see them run.

Then they do a visual. That is where it ends for most kids. To small, arms are to short, hands are small, feet are pointed out- you are done. That is the truth unfortunately.

I have seen kids who where great HS players not even get further than the visual.

College coaches are looking at potential. More importantly they are looking to keep there jobs by bringing in kids with an upside. That is why there is D-1, 1AA, D-2 & D-3. I saw Frank walking around at Lineman challenge- he is a beast[ Great looking kid who was intense]. Congratulations to him & his coaches & family on signing with an up & coming U Conn program. It is great to see local kids do well & local schools doing well with local talent.
Don’t be suprised when some of these big name kids end up D-2 or D -3 it is still very good football.

  20. 3 Yards And A Cloud Of Dust

LI Football makes great points. The best example I can come up with is a kid from Tappan Zee from the late 1970’s who could not get a sniff from any major college program. So he sent in his game tapes himself, went to each college he was interested in by himself, talked to the coaches, worked out for them live. Syracuse gave him a shot as a walk on. He went on to an 11 year pro football career. His name is Blaise Winter. Also, there are some exteremely good D2 and D3 programs. Look at Cortland, a great D3 prgram with a lot of section 1 kids on the team. They are talking a D3 championship for this comming season.

  21. football giant

Congrats to Reuben and his family. This is a great accomplishment. Seriously Ionaprep crazed, why on earth would you come into this thread and attempt to down play what this young man has accomplished? Who cares about the comparison of your players to Reuben Frank. Respect this kid and what he has accomplished. Your a trash can and all you do is thrown kids under the bus who aren’t from Iona. It is pathetic

  22. ionaprepcrazed

football giant. you are a vacuum cleaner. suckin up

  23. ionaprepcrazed

and your a giants fan even more suckin up!

  24. football giant

Ionaloser… you already used that intelligent comment in another thread. Your are nothing more than a jealous punk who wishes they had half the talent a kid like Frank has. Now go serve water to the Iona players you moron.

  25. ionaprepcrazed

i do serve water. a job you wish you could have.
