come on section 1 get it together, let these teams play, and find a way to get the big rivalries back (iona-new ro, etc...) stop the bs and make it right. a six game season, that is stupid, no other place in the country has such a short season, get to work and make it happen, its for the kids and the community that is the only thing you should have in your mind when you make rules, NOTHING ELSE!!!!! LET THEM PLAY LET THEM PLAY

Football season is required by the NY State Federation to start & complete its season in 15 weeks. The CHSFL plays its senior bowl inside that 15 week period [ so it is covered by insurance] Senior bowl takes place one week after Thanksgiving. That is why the league has late starting date. I guess the league could eliminate senior bowl or play it on Championship weekend.
No team in CHSFL has had more than one scrimmage date in a long time. Teams could elect not to play bye week & get two more scrimmages in if they wished. Many teams have been choosing to go out side league for games on that date. Section 1 starts on Aug 17th because of the state playoffs. Some teams will end there season on Halloween so a couple of teams can go to State.

I was not expecting it to make any sense to you since it went against what you orginally posted. What I proposed was for the start of the season be for all of New York and therefore no one would have a leg up on anyone. I am not against spring practices under some sort of limits. It just seems the more I read these blogs, the more coaches are pushing for football to become a fulltime sport. It is ridiculous. And you can't compare the other sports since football is the most grueling on the body. No other sport is even close. Just my opinion. Good luck this year regardless.

Hello,

Your comment makes no sense. The Winter and Spring Sports get one month of practice before games start. All we in Section 1 are asking for is to be the same as the rest of NY State. Why should the Section 1 football teams have to start days after the rest of the State. Are you proposing that basketball and baseball only have two weeks of practices before they play games?

I hate to defend the AD's but common. When are these coaches going to be happy? When the season begins in June. If you want that much action go coach College. Two weeks before school starts should be mandatory for all schools. If you can not get your kids ready to play ball with in that time go do something else.

Mr. Fagan,

You think Sec 1 is screwed up, think about the CHSFL and when their start date is, 1 full week after the rest of NY, August 24th. With that, the CHSFL teams only get 1 scrimmage day, Sept 5th, before the 1st game. With the CHSFL new rules limiting Team Camp opportunities(no 11-11 situations and only 2 Camps-direct hit @ Iona and Stepinac), teams that are willing to challenge themselves in their non-league game from within NY or out of state, are behind the 8 ball. Iona's challenge of playing Bergen Catholic at the Meadowlands will be a tall task considering when Bergen Catholic is gonna start and the 3 scrimmages they will have participated in besides the 7-7's they will have attended over the summer. Oh well.

Keith Fagan

It has to be frustrating trying to maintain an excellent program with all these types of restrictions. Nevertheless St. Anthony will provide you with the type of test that will get you ready for the season. They are the type of team that will exploit a weakness in their opponent.

Iona Prep and Greenwich have scrimmaged over the last several years which has helped in preparing for the CHSFL AAA season.

I remember two years ago I went to the Iona-Greenwich scrimmage at 10.00 am and then shot down the Hutch for your Labor day scrimmages. That was a great day of football.

Keep up the great work at New Rochelle.

IonaPower,

We technically didn't discontinue our "Labor Day Jamboree". it's just that with the crazy way Section 1 has us starting the pre-season, the scrimmage dates don't work out with those schools. Because some of the Superintendents got together and screwed around with our start date, we've had to start later than the rest of NY State. This year the rest of the State begins on Monday Aug. 17th, but we have to wait until Friday Aug. 21st. Most teams first game week is Sept. 5th, but that will be our scrimmage date. If the Superintendents ever get their act together and let Section 1 start when the rest of NY State does, we'll put that scrimmage back together. If that happens, and the dates match up with Connecticut, I would bet CT State powers New Cannaan, Greenwich and Masuk would join in as well, and that would be a great day of football!

With IONA not going to champion camp this year at New Rochelle High school it appears that this camp has or will lose some of it's lust. When Iona and Harrison squared off against each other you would think it was a playoff game in mid November and not a summer league scrimmage. With Eastchester, Harrison and Roosevelt all in the same league it might leave this camp as dull as dull can be. Eastchester never has scrimmaged Harrison for some reason and now with Roosevelt in their league it could be interesting to see who scrimmages who.

Something that might tweak the interest of some people in attendance would be rival boarders eastchester vs tuckahoe
lets make it happen coaches.

DBP,

new ro has scrimmaged st anthonys for many years now in game situation type drills, and has more than often held their own. The JV beat st anthonys a few years ago in fact.
