Don’t be fooled by the title of this post. It’s actually about football.
White Plains High School will host 7-on-7 Passing Competition on June 13 at 1 p.m. and will feature some of the area’s top teams. Carmel, Iona Prep, White Plains, North Rockland, Stepinac, Spring Valley, Croton-Harmon, Pleasantville Irvington, Rye Neck, Clarkstown North, Haldane, and Brunswick are among the teams that have already committed.
It’s a bracket tournament with each team guaranteed three games.
Football in mid-June has a nice ring to it. I’ll actually be on vacation that week but full intend to stop by and watch for a while.

You’ve Got to be Joking!:
SOUNDS LIKE CRUSADER WATCH JUST CALLED YOU OUT!!!!! I PUT MY MONEY ON CRUSADER WATCH.
Crusader Watch:
all joking aside – there a alot of kids in, lets just say the “chsfl”, that are absolutely not paying anything in tuition – trust me! but hey, more power to the schools that have the resources to do that.
these blogs are great!
Fellas,
why the bashing of the chsaa? Yes, some of the athletes do go to school on tuition reductions and that is a decision that each school must make on its own but the public schools have a monopoly on taxpayer money and budgets that blow away the catholics. Maybe, some of the anti private/catholic school bloggers could explain why a student should be forced to go one of the failing publics in the area? Some people do not have the resources to vote against their local public school by moving so they take the best available opportunity for their child and send him to a private school with some help from that school.
When it comes to playoffs the chsaa does not compete against the publics so what is the complaint on that issue?
Face it, Section 1 football is weak. Yes, there are lots of talented players but the level of competition, overall, is not that strong. That is why many better players go to iona, mount, or stepinac and the rockland guys go to jersey. You also seem to get better recognition in the catholics/privates because of their limited flexible scheduling. Hell, eastchester couldn’t even fill out their schedule in section 1.
Stop bashing the chsaa and enjoy your own team and league.
I was at the ne vs nj practice yesterday. It will be a great game on Sunday. I was hanging out with Joe Thiesman. Even though I am a COWBOY FAN. Lombardo look good. my son is having a ball. should start at the corner over kids that are going to uconn. some big name on both roster. check game on channel 9 at 3pm Sunday
pleasantville didn’t get any of the good pocantico football players briarcliff did i think they have like one and he doesn’t start. Briacliff has like 7 players that are form pocantico that are good.
who are the best quarterbacks at this tournament?
To Eastchester,
Your team is just a physical line and a fast running back or quaterback. You guys r chock artist face it and do not go after harrison who was not a good team and almost beat you. Face it your team has a bad attittude don’t talk smack. Lokk what happened to you guys against Somers last year it was 28-6 with r back up running and left tackle. Never Leave somers out of the picture.
Somers,
How were your SAT’s, judging by your post, not very good.
As for last yr, the Eagles didn’t have their QB, and in that offense, we needed him.
The Eagles won the year before with him. Hopefully there will be a rubber match in the sectionals this year.
Pville Fan,
Your 100% right. Pville is the hands down favorite to win B this year with Edgemont and Nanuet close behind. I hope Nanuet and edgemont know this as well. As for Sleppy Hollow. Maybe they have enough to field a team this year.
Manfred Man, you’re probably right about Loserader Watch, and if I were to wear a pink speedo, It’d be the best damn looking speedo you ever seen!
Bored, that’s your job!
mouth piece, that’s why you’re a loser and a fool!
Loserader Watch, no need to email you, I already know how to find you, I’ll just look for the biggest jackazz there!
wp tiger,
I dont know if the rumors about the New Ro QB are true, but even without him LAST year New Ro would have still beat you. You’re not quite on New Ro’s level yet from the performances i saw last year, considering you lost your QB to graduation and he was the only playmaker on your team. Without him White Plains is just another Gorton/Lincoln to New Ro.
Hey Donald Duck
You must be out of your mind, we will see at the WP shoot-out if Sleepy fields a team. I hope we draw PV first, so therefore we can send them on their merry way.
Somers,
Last year was your year! but o wait who choked? Who had six turnovers against nyack in the playoffs? Eastchester didn’t have thier starting inside linebcker, and qb when they played you. remember it was 14-6 with three min left in the third qtr.
You also needed to change your entire defense from a year ago, becuase you were schooled. I love watching the bowl game, and seeing your d line get blown off the ball about six or seven yards evey play. You never did have a good line in somers.
Eagle Power,
You are starting in already. Last year all we heard was how Eastchester was going to take care of Nyack and we did not stand a chance against you in the playoffs. Then you did not make the playoffs.
!7-3 is a great record. But if you want to move into the elite programs in the section you will need to at least get to the sectional finals a few times.
You lost to the runners up two years ago and did not make the playoffs last year. It will take more than a great regular season record to move into the elite programs.
It appears you will have another strong team this year. You would be better off talking about that and stop trashing other programs. You will garner more support for your team that way.
My early read on Class A is Ossining, Rye, Yorktown, Eastchester and Fox Lane are the front runners with Ossining and Rye at the head of the class.
Nyack, Harrison, Somers, Poughkeepsie in the next level.
Poughkeepsie as the sleeper. They could be better then expected.
Looking forward to another great year of high school football.
And Hollow:
I am pretty sure that Donald is a Sleepy fan. He was being ironical…
Eagle Power,
Wing T Guy is right lets not talk about the past u should focus and talk about this years team. Maybe talk about your strengths. Look foward to seeing what all this hype about ehs is on saturday at Rye’s 7 on 7. Both Rye and Iona prep will make you look silly like they did last year. Get your popcorn ready cause it will expose all this nonsense u talk about!
Wing T Guy,
You know me to well.
I got a glimpse of Iona,only because I was in the area.Man those guys are big.I’m talking gorillas.Looked like a college team…
Name one player from Pocantico that has contributed to Pleasantville in the last decade
Is Iona going to at the Big Apple 7on7 or the Rye 7on7? Aren’t they both this saturday?
First of all wing T guy,
I am not bashing, just defending. Look at the previous posts. People are and always have bashed eastchester. Go to the top and scroll down. See who began the slander, then make your opinion.
Secondly last year eastchester beat Rye in the 7 on 7. They did loose to Iona. Remember, we are a running team first.
Also just a question. Is somers considered an elite team in A??
For the record, they haven’t even been to a sectional final in A, and I don’t think they’ve even won a bowl game in A. We’ve won 2.
Just because Mr. Dematteo is a state champion, and elite coach doesn’t mean that makes somers an elite team. And if you say it does, then by accomplishments in A you need to include eastchester in the elite.
I stand corrected – no bashing- but a lot of excuse making and chest pounding.
The same MO as last year.
By the way the statement that started all your defensiveness was far from slanderous. Go back up the thread and read it.
As far as Somers. You need to do some more research on their playoff accomplishments, but by the standard of no Section finals they are not there. They do have more than 2 years of great regular season records.
I am not sure what you mean by you beating Rye at the 7 on 7. Are you using that for rationale for being an elite Class A program?
I hope Eastchester has a great season this year and an opportunity to take the next step in the playoffs.
Iona will indeed participate in the Rye 7-7. People need to realize that most coaches are trying to implement their systems at this stage. If Eastchester beats Rye or Iona Prep this Saturday I do not think it has a bearing on how well Rye or Iona Prep will do this year. This applies for every school that works at these camps.
Iona Prep will be attending the Rye 7on7 this saturday June 13
Wint T guy,
Thank you for your kind words. the rye 7 on 7 comment was by no means to say how good we were in A. It was a posting to “Get a jon eagle Power”
My point is not to bash anyone. Somers is a great team. But it’s amazing how many people don’t want to give eastchester the credit they deserve, so we are always on the defensive.
Somers most would consider an elite team, they have had good records since moving to A. But eastchester has done more in it’s first two years than Somers did in A. That’s my only point. as far as body of work, our last four seasons we were 7-2,6-3,9-1,8-2. Yes i agree we need to get to a sectional final, hopefully that will come.
Remember, eastchester stopped Harrison’s 22 game win streak against class A schools. We also had quality wins against Nyack, Somers and Harrison. Along with two bowl championships. We are not an elite team, but we are on our way.
hey kevin are you attending rye 7 on 7 or what?
Did eastchester not make the playoffs last year? im serious, did they make it i dont know?
Eagle Power,
Stop with the love fest it makes me sick, tell us what number your kid is so we can look out for him on saturday at Rye hopefully he’s a back or linebacker or wr. I actually think eagle power is FRANCO CUTS 824 from last year. At the least Franco Cuts named his kid!
people get a grip. a 7 on 7 tourny in June is nothing more then a touch football game. It has no bearing on who will beat who in the fall. Leave it for what it is. A measuring stick for the coaches. THATS IT
My son will be the one wearing the red eagles jersey
Eagle Power,
Who should we be looking out for tomorrow, on the offensive and defensive side of the ball other then the guys in red!
It is 7 on 7 fellas,
Last year Don Bosco studs lost to New Canaan in a 7 on 7 game. do think New Canaan can beat Don Bosco in a real game.
Man Oh Man, it is only JUNE.
Where to start?
“They have been very aggressive in getting in front of kids playing for good youth programs like the Eastchester Blue Devils.” They is Stepinac. Nice of them and Iona raiding kids from all the local public schools and then telling us how great they are. If all these kids stayed home and played just think how much better their public schools teams and eventually the schools themselves would be.
Glad to see that both the “Has beens”=Harrison and “Never Weres”=Eastchester fans are back at it already.
Is Harrison going to be that weak this year? I do not know. One can only hope. But not to worry Huskie fans, someone will move in to Harrison before September, happens every year. Is Artie done painting the apartment yet?
Just love it that everyone still hates Somers. Lets see what The Don can do with no talent this year.
As for Sleepy fan and The Donald: you guys can go back to beating your chests now that you are back in B.
Big deal your playing Rye!!! You Horses’ Asses ducked Ossining this year and put and end to a resumption of one of the best rivalries in New York State. Too bad Ricci didn’t let the starters play in the second half. You would have had an ass kicking for the ages.
PS: Thanks again to the Ignorant Interloper from Rockland, one Chuckie Scarp for blocking Ossining-Sleepy ‘09.
Whats the matter Chuck, too much work to host a game that fans actually show up for? What a Clown.
As for the rest of Class A: What does Nyack and Yorktown have coming up the pipe to reload their programs?
And as someone said here, be very wary of Po’Keepsie. Speed kills. A Dutchess Officiating Crew doesn’t hurt either!!!!
Ossining-Rye should be a great game. How well will Ossining reload? What new wrinkles will Dino and the Garnets come up with? Will Ossining be ready to shake its rep as a slow starter out of the gate on opening day? Can Mickey Mouse take down another Legend?
Guess we all just have to wait and see.
See you in September, See you when the Summers through…..
ChiefWildEagle
Student athletes want to play for a program like Iona Prep so all this crap about Iona raiding public school players is garbage. I did not realize that it is an obligation to attend the local public school. IT IS ALL ABOUT CHOICES!!!
Why would a player not want to play for Iona Prep. The education is excellent. They play in arguably the most competitive Football league in the state which is the CHSFL AAA. I guess when you are asked to play in the Meadowlands against powerhouse programs like Bergen Catholic the few jealous haters come out and talk nonsense. Lastly check some of the rating from ESPM Rise and MSG which could explain why Iona Prep is a great place to attend school and play sports.
It is only June and already teams like Iona and Stepinac are getting bashed.
IonaPrepCarzed….Iona was second choice, New Rochelle was asked to play in the Giants Stadium Game a couple of years ago, but couldn’t because Section 1 wouldn’t allow them to miss a section 1 game to do it. And you say “competitive”, I say over rated. You put Yonkers High, Lincoln, Saunders, Roosevelt, Gorton (the last couple of years), Hastings, and Ardsley together in the same league (they are all located within 10 miles of each other), and you’d have a highly competitive league also, because they all are horrible teams. So it would be competitive, but it wouldn’t be good football. And, let me ask you this. When you have the same team that wins the championship for 7 years in a row, how in the world is that competitive? Sounds like it was a league that had a dominant team, and a bunch of wanna be’s that couldn’t keep up to me, pretty much the exact opposite as competitive.
Don’t Count Yur Chickens
Once again like you have in the past you make comments that are unintelligent and downright moronic.
Here are the facts- St. Peters Prep and Bergen Catholic along with Mike Quick of MSG wanted Iona Prep to represent New York in the Meadowlands.
If you think the CHSFL AAA is overated then how come the Massey Computer High School ratings had 4 teams in the top 25 in New York State.
If you think Iona Prep was overated then take a look at the MSG and ESPN High School rankings and see who was the only team in this area that was ranked.
Your comment about St. Anthony and a bunch of Wanna be’s is a joke. First of all St. Anthony before losing to Iona beat another area team Mount St. Michael by less than 6 points in the previous 2 champiosnhip games. St. Anthony also has beaten in those 7 years teams like Farrell and Chaminade by close games in the championship.
Also Stepinac who did not make the CHSFL AAA playoffs easily handled White Plains who made the Section 1 semifinals and gave New Rochelle a good game in the playoffs.
Most intelligent High School Football fans will acknowledge teh CHSFL AAA as a highly competitive league great balance from top to bottom. How else can you explain a top notch program like Mount St. Michael being a number 9 seed in the 12 team league. How else can you explain Stepinac who has a very good team not making it in the CHSFL AAA this year and being forced to move to the less competitive CHSFL AA league.
It is too bad that people need to spin misinformation about certain teams and leagues.
Chief wild Eagle,
Chiefy,Chiefy,Chiey. I think the florida sun and early bird specials this winter has finaly put you over the top. I told you to ask Micky Mouse the reason why the teams are not playing this year. Thats the only homework assignment I gave you this spring. Did you? I doubt it. To busy reliving that tough loss last year? It’s over. Time to move on.
As for your geinus comment about Sleepy playing Rye this year as not a big deal. Well. Just proves the fact that you spent to much time in the Florida sun this winter.
Anyway. Welcome beck. Enjoy your Boston Cream pie and Lawernce Welk reruns. Look forword to blogging with you this year.
cheif wild eagle you must be the biggest idoit on these blogs all the yonkers schools are much bigger then hastings and ardsley. Also hastings might be a contender this year.
ignorance…ignorance…ignorance…
Considering I never played in the CHSFL and played in the “weak” section I public schools, It would seem that I would be biased to some degree over one instead of the other. But that’s not the case…
Coach Coach O’Donnell is a great coach at Stepinac, hes also a great Athletic Director and takes care of his kids. He’s also not a complainer…so this new CHSFL league rule isnt from “Stepinac Complaining”. I never went to Stepinac, but being a coach at the school in a sport OTHER than FOOTBALL he has given the time and money necessary to help out all teams (Track, Basketball, Lacrosse, Tennis).
People knock the CHSAA when in reality it is intense and exciting football. When you dont have state wide funding like the Publics you must charge admission in order to pay teachers, equipment, etc. You people tend to forget that portion…it’s not like the money is going straight to a head governing position…oh wait, it used to-luckily the Archdiocese isn’t in control anymore-all the money earned at Stepinac and Iona can be used in that school for their benefits. Also Stepinac has a great football program. They’re also looking to improve their track and fields on the campus grounds. Having a new field (turf or even irrigated grass) with new surroundings can improve recruitment chances.
Yes tuition at some of these private/catholic schools is high, but the scholarships help those with good grades and athletic standing attend school. Because lets face it-SOME schools in Westchester County alone are horrible in ALL aspects of sports, appearance, teachers, average graduation rate. The ability to get kids from various school districts gives you a multi talented team which makes the league even stronger-you’re not just given kids in the district and expected to make a state champion out of them. These tuition based schools are somewhat of a college run entity. If you have the money, or the talent/grades to go to an Iona over, say Roosevelt, then why not?
But also that’s what makes the Sections great in their own way. It’s early June and people are already bashing each others teams…FATHERS are on here posting blogs talking smack about another man’s son’s team…You’re given a group of kids from a school, and expect to win with them. The current Rye streak, as well as Dobbs Ferry’s former run doesn’t make it a dominant team with wannabes, its a Great team in competitive games. You got some of the most famous head coaches in Dino Garr, Tony Dematteo, etc…When I used to play Football in High School I played against these teams, and some of these coaches, and it was an awesome feeling knowing I got to be part of something special.
the CHSFL is different from the Public, each better in their own way…I went to a small Public School in Mid-Westchester County, Class C/Class B during my days…the environment was great, I miss it still. I’m sure I would have loved going to a St John the Baptist School in Long Island, or a Stepinac, or Iona, or St Joe by the sea…
And some of you are right-a 5 Team Yonkers league with Hastings might be competitive based on recent team performance, no matter what the school size…but it wont happen so lets not jump the gun and say it should be done. I recall Hastings putting up some good matchups in recent years to teams like Dobbs, Westlake, Rye Neck.
BTW…you guys know Croton-Harmon won the big apple 7 on 7 right? a small Class C team out gunned the CHSFL, an upstate AA team, and a Connecticut team along with a mix of other section I teams…so “weak” isn’t a term I would use on the Public Schools…
OH AND TO WHOEVER SAID STEPINAC HAD A SUPER SENIOR…if that was towards Maurice Easterling you should be banned from blogging and banned from a lot of things…Mo is a good kid and an AMAZING Long/Triple Jumper..he’s up at the STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS in Track and Field…something I’m sure most of you people in here CAN’T DO…
HSFB,
I agree with you on alot you say. Not so crazy about the public school teacher comment though. You have bad teachers everywhere. Lets face it. A private school teacher is paid lower then a public school teacher and in most cases bolt once a public school job comes up. Does that make the quality of private school teachers worse?
any news on the 7 on 7. was kevin devaney even there?
It is nice to win a 7 on 7 game. But the real deal is can you hit people. Get into the weight room and push the plates.
The line is the real deal. Croton had no line two years ago and went 2 – 6. The fat boys returned and they win the section. So go get some fat boys to play the line and get them into the weight room. Most high school teams throw the ball about 5 times a game. Good Luck and work hard, because some other kid is out there working out real hard coming for you.
Who cares about 7 on 7? Do you really think Croton Harmon could play with Stepinac, Carmel, North Rockland, White Plains or John Jay? 7 on 7 is about getting reps, and teaching your kids your system.
I was at BOTH the Rye 7 on 7 and the White Plains 7 on 7. Of course I was there to see Iona at (Rye) and Stepinac (at White Plains). I came away from both scrimmages with a very good impression. As previously stated a 7 on 7 is used by a football coach as an opportunity to work on the passing game. Coaches use 7 v 7 to work on timing, route running, combo routes offensively and then defensive coverages. It’s a chance for DB’s to work with LB’s on various zone responsibilities and what not. It is not an indication of who will beat who during a regulation game of 11 v 11.
Iona Power or Iona Crazed did you make it to Rye or White Plains on Saturday?
HSFB Guy I agree with a lot of what you say. How do you think the Crusaders will do in 2009? What kind of incoming class do they have?
What do you think?
sombody gunna tell me thier super 11 picks or what
What do people think about Irvington this yr they got a really good back field this yr They got Crisara, Purcelle, Degnan, Recine, Mchmahon, and etc…
obviously there’s bad teachers everywhere…but I’m saying how everyone tends to believe that this is a factor that is never considered…I won’t name names, but some schools have actually good teacher scores/ratings, while others don’t. Both in Public and Private, Public and Catholic, even in College. My college I graduated from-Mercy College-has great professors who I owe a great education to, as well as some professors where I wondered “how in the hell are you a College Professor???”
and 7 on 7 may be just for coaches decisions and to get some work in, but if have an in team passing shell in October it further evaluates how you are in the passing scheme (I enjoyed those practices, being a linemen we did some one on one drills and some line drills but mostly got to watch the passing shell games). Sounding modest there on how its nice to win it, but means nothing…Croton Harmon lost a regular season game then went on a run to beat Dobbs and Westlake in the Class C semi finals and finals, respectively, and that Class C final was done through the Air…the bombs I was seeing…no wonder that qb is going to Marist….
You forget some schools don’t have great QB arms…the Wing T/Wishbone/Option teams tend to have a faster scrambling qb and a great line and backfield. The spread/shotgun/passing formations that rely on down field threats and speedy receivers means a qb’s arm must be loaded. My high school we NEVER had a great qb arm…to this day its alot of running plays (option, i form, wing t, occasionally a passing play). so while it means nothing in june, you can see how your offense plays, add in some linemen and contact, and you can get a feel/vibe for your season…thats all I was saying…to have an offense scheme where your qb and receivers can run with bigger schools and be competitive is amazing (although section1recruting.com doesn’t mention if there was a record amount of incompletions-haha)
Crusader Watch-I’m a little nervous and anxious for August/September to start. The Track season ended a few weeks ago, as I was Watching Stepinac-who was in the mini camp off season practice. They were in no pads and did mostly drills and plays…with Maurice and alot of top college players graduating, I know its early but it came off as give and take. I was talking to one of the baseball kids who knows the team well and some of the position changes make sense, others dont. since they’re in AA, and no Iona game, they have a great shot at playoffs…talked to one of the returning seniors, who happens to be the Step’s top thrower in track and field, and he knows alot of next years opponents and agrees that they have a great chance. I noticed alot of option and option based runs from thier offense in the camp, though the passing shell proves that they can still throw the ball and be successful. I haven’t seen the incoming classes yet, I think the JV unit looks solid as well, but again from what I saw its all potential. When they have their July Camp (if thats even allowed anymore) I can get a better judgment.
Joey, what the hell are you talking about?
I never commented on the Yonkers schools and Hastings.
Get your act together.
Donald: Chucky is the reason Ossining-Sleepy ‘09 is not going to happen. I know you cannot accept this fact, but a fact it is.
PS: Don’t get me mixed up with Big Joe, I have many years to go before I can become a Snow Bird.
Chiefy,
Please forgive Joey. He saw a stupid comment and equated it to you. I have no idea why he would do that.
Chiefy,, The games not going to happen this year. Time to put on your big boy pants, belly up to the bar and accept it. How about this.. Instead of sleepy moving up a class to play Ossining, why dosn’t Ossining move up a class and play New Ro? That would be a great game. Please check with Mickey and get back to me.
