Section 1 Recruiting football combine

May
5

The third annual Section 1 Recruiting Inc. Player Evaulation Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 30 at New Rochelle High School. It’s open to players who’ll be sophomores, juniors and seniors next season and costs $60 if you register by May 15.

The day-long combine has become one of the most important dates on the football calendar. Prospective college players get a chance to record all the pertinent numbers of recruitment — 40-yard dash, vertical leap, three-cone drill, bench press and the kneeling powerball toss. There’s a speed and strength seminar conducted by Forme Fitness, followed by a college coaches instruction by position.

Coaches from Salve Regina, Pace University, Utica College, Amherst College, Southern Connecticut State University, _Char” style=”font-weight: normal”>SUNY – Maritime, St. Anselm College, Union College, Ithaca College, and SUNY Cortland all attended last year, as well as former Section 1 and current college football players coaching the players through drills.

There will be an awards ceremony at the end and a chance for players to speak to the college coaches in attendance.

Registration is between 8 to 8:45 a.m. with the combine beginning at 9. Lunch is at noon, followed by the Forme seminar at 12:30. The position drills go from 1:30 to 3.

For the registration form, and more information, go to the Section 1 Recruiting site, which you can access here.

LAst year this helped me get a look from colleges and let me scope the talent in the area, and just a day of fun, if u have the oppertunity you should come down and show your stuff.

  2. WR 7 Beast

i was there last year and i got alot out of the experience. The best part was running routes against db’s and the college coaches advice that came along with that.

  3. Don't Count Yur Chickens

I think the thing that makes this combine worthwhile is the fact there are college coaches putting the kids “through the paces.” Most of the time these type of companies just offer the combine, and you have to go to a college day camp to get college coaches coaching you. Here, you have the best of both worlds. It’s like two-for-the-price-of-one. Most college day camps are about $125 for the day, and most combines are $75. You get both for $60, that’s a hell of a bargain, especially in today’s economy. I for one hope all the Section 1 studs for 2009 show up and strut their stuff. I’ve seen Lombardo, Schermerhorn, Williams, Paskelides, Autera, and Rice all put on a display at this event, and they were all impressive.

  4. Player

Ive gone to this combine 2 years already and ive learned alot from the coaches and have been getting mail from some of the schools there. So it does work.

  5. Croton Football Fan

I went last year with son, a friend and my nephew.

They all had a blast and they had plenty of time to get looked at.

    I think itis well worthwhile.

  6. EaglesFan

Is Brailsford from Dobbs Ferry gonna be there? Talk around Dobbs is that he is getting looks from some big time schools.

  7. chsfl

if hes from dobbs ferry than probably not..I cant wait to see where Mack goes

  8. George St lawrence

This is great for Section 1 football. We at the Collegiate Development football League will be attending and we wish all the players a great day. We are working with some players in the CDFL who have been part of this in the past. It is a great opportunity for the kids

  9. NR

Don’t count your chickens i’m pretty sure Rice, didn’t part take in it big guy :) .

  10. Don't Count Yur Chickens

Considering this event is only 3 years old I thought you’d be smart enough to realize I was talking about Markel, not Ray. Although Ray did show up and watch his brother the first year big guy!

  11. NR

yea ray did showed up, however it was to watch Markell do nothing. Him and paris walker didn’t even participate ? I remember talking to the both of them. Big guy !!!

  12. Rileygirl

This has nothing to do with the Combine( which is great), however, ESPN is reporting that NewRo’s Mcdermott is looking into Boston College to play TE. I havent been on this site in a while, if it was reported, forgive me. BC produces a lot of talent every year.Best of luck Geoff and the kids that go to the combine

  13. cornhusker

Here is the article about Geoff, http://myespn.go.com/blogs/acc/0-6-42/Another-hoopster-to-tight-end-.html

  14. Mrs. Sanchez

Who knows where Mack, Gadson, & Woodson-Samuels is getting looks from?

  15. Are You Ready?

Mrs. Sanchez….that’s why they should all go to this event, so that they can show how superior they are physically. of course we all know physical numbers don’t always translate to the football field, but it’s a good start. Maybe that will put all the Catholics vs. Public talk to rest. If the Iona Prep guys show up and dominate, well, maybe Iona really was that good last year. If they don’t, if their numbers aren’t all that, well, then maybe, just maybe, all those public school proponents are right and the Catholics are more hype than reality! I’d love to see the Stepinac guys there too, for the same reason.

  16. The truth

Honestly this is a waste, just save your money up and go to a bigger combine. I got more letters doing the Lauren’s first and goal clinic than this. If you go and do good here congrats the Cortland coaches are interested. Try to go to a bigger combine and do decent and I will guarantee you will get way more looks. That quin kid that is at trinity pawling has to be one of the most overrated players I have seen. And yet he has a scholly to B.C.. You know why ? because he went to a Nike camp and did good. so don’t waste your time going. Trust me I been there and done that. Another thing that bothered me was the special treatment of the new rochelle kids and the other big names player.

  17. IonaPower

    Are You Ready?

Iona Prep going 13-0 and being ranked in the MSG and ESPN poll was not hype but reality. Iona Prep is opening against a NJ Power in Bergen Catholic so it is obvious that they are not running from any opponents. I think if you watch a CHSFL AAA game you will see some quality football.

The section 1 combine is a great venue for student athletes to shine in front of prospective college coaches.

  18. Are You Ready?

The truth….you’re a joke. First of all, Lauren’s first and goal isn’t a combine, so you have no credibility. Second of all, what college are you going to, what’s your name, don’t be a coward and make statements you can’t back up. have you even been to this event? Doubt it. You naysayers are all the same, posers and wannabe’s. This event is amazing! Special treatment? How can you possibly get special treatment?

IonaPower….I agree with all your points. It would just be noce to see how those players mentioned measure out, 40 wise, and in the skills competition, that’s all I was sayin’.

  19. college player

    Dear the truth,

I play football at the division three level and there are very few players in section 1 that can play better. goin to a nike combine is good experence and all but this section 1 combine gets a player to be seen in his own backyard and coaches talk also so a d1 coach will talk to a d3 coach and if the player is good enough he will go ply d1…if u wanna play then play d3 unless your a freak athlete which most arnt…if u wanna try and get a ride to a d1 school and ride the pine and barely learn anything in school then go d1..and have fun gettin your live taken over but u can also have fun with all the money you save

  20. Colonial

The truth, I go to a D3 school that plays such teams as SUNY Cortland. We play in the NJAC which is the toughest division or one of the toughest divisions in D3 football. SUNY Cortland has more talent in their center alone than you prob have on your entire team. There’s plenty of kids who go D3 just to get used to the transition of high school to college and they transfer up. I’ve seen plenty of kids transfer down from D1 cuz it was too fast for them and they weren’t ready.

  21. Bigger Truth

    Hey Truth,
What school are you going to? I went to Lauren’s first and goal before and I had a good time don’t get me wrong, but it is not a combine. It is more like a practice then anything else. And 99.9% of kids don’t get invited to Nike Camp so this is the only thing for them.

  22. TM44

I went last year and it was a great idea. For myself personally, my favorite part was getting a chance to see my comp. and compare myself to them before the season started. I know that after I went I was motivated to work harder and train because a lot of the kids were better than I was at that point. $60 well spent.

    In response to the truth,
    1. Cortland is a great school for D3 football. Its cheap $ wise, but has a great program and d1 type facilities. There is no shame in going there, it was high on my list before i signed elsewhere.
    2. Several players that were in attendance are going d1aa or d2 so clearly you have no idea what you’re talking about

  23. Rileygirl

The Truth. Dillon Quinn dominated on the field. Then he does 225 30+ times, measures 6’7, 295 and runs a sub 4.9.If youre gonna make silly statements about these kids please put your name down.
I played D3 in the early 90s, in the SUNYAC conference and there were many kids who had dreams of moving up to the next level based on their high school exploits and rarely if ever does this happen. Some kids enjoyed being a a big fish in a small pond/the college experience but most werent good enough to play at a higher level. A standard D3 class will bring in 50+ kids, by the time that class graduates there are 10-15 kids left. Many kids quit the team, join frats or quit the sport. Cortland, Brockport, St John Fisher, Ithaca… all have very talented players. Very rarely does an All Section kid walk into one of those places and star immediately

  24. YellowJacket

The truth…that is such a joke…there r maybe 5% of all high school football players who go on to play college. and maybe 1 percent of that plays D1. Cortland also happens to be amazing football. Theyre ranked top 10 in the country in d3. It is also mad cheap. Im playing at rochester cortland didnt even take a second glance at me thats how good they are. Also new ro players r usually insane. any college football is good football. You have to be a solid football player to get playing time even on d3

  25. David Cohan

Aight number one im the starting olb for Trinity-Pawling we wer 8-1 this year winning yeat another bowl championship in class A new englands we are 26-4 in the past four seasons wit three championships no team in new york can beat us. We had 5 kids go D1 this year and me and prob 8 others nexxt year we are a dynasty so we are not jus combine players we willpop u in teh mouth if you wana play football not this bs camp shit come see us if u think u da best team in NY dont disrespect quinn he is a ^’7 295 pound monster and my mans so come see us setion1 and any ohter school im talking to u Iona Prep u think u real cause u beat MT Saint Micheal false rye country day noot and st anthonys hell no so im out remeber dat pce

  26. Somers

People don’t realize that there some D3 schools out there better then D1 schools. It means nothing

  27. footballgiant

Somers go check yourself into a mental institution. NO D3 school is better than a D1 school. Mt. Union who wins every year would get blasted by the worst MAAC team. Just a dumb statement and you miss the point that a dude like Rileygirl is trying to make.

  28. Don't Count Yur Chickens

footballgiant, you’re wrong. The MAAC doesn’t even exist as a conference anymore. Since 1993 those schools were glorified D3 schools anyway that didn’t offer athletic scholarships. That was because of the “one sport all sports” mandate from the NCAA. If you’re talking about Marist (the one school from the old MAAC still fielding a football team) there ok, but only offer about 35 athletic scholarships. Mt. Union is loaded with D1 transfers, so they would probably beat Marist. I agree that the top 90% of D1 schools would beat the bottom 90% of D3 schools, but the bottom 10% of D1 would have a tough time, or not be able to, beat the top 10% of D3 schools. And before you go popping off, I hope you remember a little school called Appalachian State that beat a D1 school you might have heard of, University of Michigan.

  29. footballgiant

First off I am talking about the Mid Atlantic Athletic Conference. NOT Metro .. Miami Ohio, Ohio, BG etc. So your first point is off. And Mount Union would get smoked by any team in this conference. We are talking about superior athletes here. And the transfers you speak of were lower tier players who weren’t going to see the field. Name one Mount Union player who was a stud at a D1 school and left to go there?

Oh and your Appalachian State is just dumb. Are they D3? or are they even D2..NO. They are one division below the big boys. There is a DRASTIC difference. So don’t pat yourself on your back when you comparison makes zero sense when discussing the topic at hand. Yes that was a major upset that may never happen again. But its not relevant.

Playing collegiate sports at any level is an accomplishment. That is the main point, but a comparison of athletes from D1 to D3 is just not realistic at all.

  30. footballgiant
    • Correction Mid American… I was typing fast.. It is just MAC. My bad on the other A…
  31. Don't Count Yur Chickens

    footballgiant…apology accepted.

  32. Don't Count Yur Chickens

NR…check out the You Tube Video of the combine. You’ll see Markel playing DB in the 3-on-3 drill, and then switching over to WR. So before you say anything u need to check your facts!

  33. NR

Don’t count your Chicken, I really hope your not a player, on new rochelle…

  37. Mrs. Sanchez

answer 3…we all know who has the best talent in section 1 so lets not go there

  38. 10960

Fellas, Give the Combine a chance to grow. Don’t discredit something on the rise. Easy for you to criticise instead of taking action to help make section 1 football better.

  39. we Go hArd

yeah..we all know and it aint rye or the other big schools!!!!

  40. Mrs. Sanchez

we go hard…...Its Iona Prep because they go hard lol. These blogs can say what they want, but stats and records dont lie

  41. we Go hArd

    Mrs. Sanchez

  44. Keith Fagan

I’d like to thank F.O.R.M.E., all the many volunteers, the college coaches, and most importantly the 104 players that came out to New Rochelle to participate in the 2009 Section1Recruiitng, Inc. Player Evaluation Day today. It was another great day of football in Section 1 as the players ran through the combine circuit, and then really got after it in the 1 v 1’s, and 3 v 3’s that took place in the afternoon. The college coaches did their thing by coaching the players for a 25 minute individual segment, and I know that the players today gained a definite advantage over the competition in Section 1 after the coaching they received today! Next years’ date is tentatively set for Saturday May 22, 2010. Tell your neighbors, tell your friends, tell your teammates, because the 2010 Section1Recruiting, Inc. Player Evaluation Day is an event you do not want to miss!!!

  45. Mahopac

    Kieth,

When will the results be posted? Any new upcoming athletes you saw that might make a big impact this upcoming season? Thanks

  46. Keith Fagan

I should have the results posted by Wednesday the latest. I was running around the whole day and didn’t really get a chance to see any one station or position group for very long. We will have a list of the individual position MVP’s as well as the overall MVP.

  47. Keith Fagan

Combine Results are now posted on the website for any/all interested.

  48. unkown

I told you kevin bronner finshes 1St with the fastest 40 time. And Justin Reina finshes 14th in fastest 40 time.both eastchester RB. They also put up 185 both 16 times. As far as I’m concerned eastchester will be the team to beat in there division
