Seventh team: Shaquille Griffiths, Tuckahoe

I’ve been out of the office the last few days, so I apologize for not posting this sooner. I also didn’t get to really look over the list until today. I thought the selections were good for the most part. Here are some quick thoughts:

Class AA: Would have liked to have seen Keith Thomas of Yorktown recognized. He had a great season. Durand Scott on the second team? Are you kidding me?

Class A: Two players on the first team from Peekskill? Wow. Shows what people across the state think about the program. They got this whole class right in the selections.

Class B: I’m a huge fan of Sileck and was happy to see him recognized. But not Alex Judge? Very surprising. Also cannot understand how Samuels was dropped so low. He was the best big man I saw all season in this area. Najee Forte was a great selection after getting snubbed somewhat by the Section 1 coaches.

Class C: Very surprised Valhalla, as the Section 1 champs, didn’t get more. Jensen deserved to be higher and I think Oasiris Yates and Dan Annunziata had too good of a season to get omitted.

As I’ve said before, picking all-state tournaments is an impossible task, so I’m not criticizing. Every year somebody feels snubbed. Did I miss anyone?

  1. All-City

Please add Darien Thomas, who made third team all-state in Class A.

  2. Absolutely Mindboggling

Who picks these teams? Some of the kids picked did not even make all-section, and you are right the biggest snub is Oasiris Yates from Valhalla. No Judge from Croton is awful too.

  3. actually

...its mind BOTTLING. You know, what happens when your thoughts get all trapped up like in a bottle.

    ...jus sayn

  4. Question

Tell me how Jon Schofield didn’t get all section but then got all state?

  5. observer

Any word on where Pope might be going to college?

  6. Larry

Kevin, would know better, but I believe Neil Kerr of the Post Standard in Syracuse puts it together with the assist from 7-8 people from around the state including Kevin I believe. As for first team in Class A, I believe there was a little horse trading going on. Harris from LILU and Triche from JD were named co-players of the year, so their teammates were put on second team while Brickhouse and Watts were named first team because of the battle they gave JD in the final. Believe that the selections weren’t necessarily the best players in the state, but the best players whose teams had the best post-season finish, with a few exceptions.

    What say you Kevin Devaney??

  7. Absolutely Mindboggling

Schofields coach did not nominate him for all section due to the suspension Schofield had to serve during the season, he only played 8 or 9 games. Where is Max Wein from Schecheter, he deserves to be picked.

The State Coaches Association picked the top 50 players in the state from all classes, Yates from Valhalla makes that list but not even the top 35 in the sportwriters list fro Class C. To me when it comes to picking these post season teams the coaches have more credibility than the sportswriters (sorry Kevin).

Who ever had anything to do with these selections did a POOR job.

  8. boss

    bwa ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!

Really ? Sherrod Wright, Sean Johnson, Dane Miller, and Kelvin Agee over Durand Scott? Are you kidding me? The CHSAA MVP and NY State MVP? Durand is on peoples All-American list and he’s not first team all state?

  9. westchestern g.

why would you (kevin) be surprised about some selections if you helped make the lists… hmm

These Knuckle head NYS Sportswriters are not well informed. If you look at the Top 20 rankings from them it would just make you laugh. One example is that they have Greece Athena in the top 20. Iona Prep destroyed them by over 30 points at the Slam Dunk this year and it could have been worse as Iona had the starters out in the 3rd quarter. St. Raymonds is not found in the top 20. All credibility is lost. Take a look at their final State rankings and you can see how the knowledgeable fan can pick it apart.

Silick transfered from Horace Greeley school district even though they still live there.. His parents rented an apartment in Croton so he could play in Class B and avoid the big league that Greeley competed in. Silick had a hired team of coaches and entourage. In short he and his parents worked the system- PERIOD!!!!!

  23. No

Jim.. how’s the view from inside of Steve Young’s butt? Your lies are 100% inaccurate. As someone who knows the Silecks very well, you mamn, should stop spreading lies. The Silecks have not lived in Chappaqua since the time Brandon transferred. Specifically, their house was purchased by the Djaha family. There is no “apartment” they bought and live in a house right in Croton on Hudson. (and live there and only there full-time) Hired team of coaches and entourage?? What is this, your fairy-tale world of why your own father doesn’t love you? They moved so that they weren’t worked by the GREELEY system of Dave Fernades stupidity. Where playing time is divided by who’s dad will volunteer to be assistant coach and which lawfirm the mother works at.
Your comment is nothing but a failed attempt to defame the Silecks and address your own insecurities. If you and Stevey-O Young and big bad Dave Fernandes are so sad about losing Sileck and underachieving year after year, then why don’t you throw your scapegoating where it deserves?
    Pathetic … grow a sack.

  24. jim

MY BAD! I must have had bad info. I apologize. I am sorry to player and family.
But in your response you defamed and trashed the AD, coach, asst coach, a mom, ans entire program.WOW!
    College soon – done here

  25. fan

Congratulations to all the players who made all-state. It is a great accomplishment.
