Federation Class A semifinal: Iona Prep vs. Jamesville-DeWitt
-
- March
- 27
9:55: Jamesville dribbles out the clock and defends its Federation title tomorrow against Long Island Lutheran with a 67-55 victory that fell a bit short of living up to its potential. Triche had 24 and Hymes 18. Voelkel had 12, but only three in the second half, and 10 rebounds. Carissimo finished with 12.
9:53: Zach Firestone makes two FTs for Jamesville. It’s 65-55 with 43 seconds to go.
9:52: Mack makes a three, but it may be too late. Iona forced to foul twice. Triche to the line with 1:13 left. He misses but Coleman gets the rebound. 52.4 left, J-D up 63-55.
9:50: Thompson to the line with 1:43 left. Misses the first. Makes the second. 63-52.
9:47: Hymes keeps alive an offensive rebound and pulls it out. 2:02 left, still 62-50.
9:46: Thompson jumper 62-50, 2:58 to go. Iona has gone completely cold from the field.
9:44: Lamar Kearse hit a short jumper and Triche starts and finishes a break. WIth 3:55 left, J-D is up by 10, 60-50.
9:42: Thompson jumper. Voelkel answers with a FT and Carissimo keeps the rebound alive and is fouled by Coleman, who has four. Carissimo makes two FTs. 53-48, J-D with 5:00 to go.
9:39: Triche driving layup and was fouled; missed the FT. It’s 51-45, Jamesville.
9:37: Mack hit a corner jumper. 47-43 to open the fourth.
9:34: Triche made a layup in transition. At the end of three quarters: Jamesville up 47-41. J-D ended the quarter on a 16-5 run.
9:33: Maybe it’s all the fouls that is costing this matchup some of its juice. Hymes just hit a three with :50 left in the third and it’s 45-41 J-D.
9:29: Hymes hit a three, J-D up 42-39 with 3:41 left in the third.
9:28: Thompson, who has three fouls now, hit one of two FTs to tie it 39-39.
9:24: Triche and Carissimo traded threes, and Steve Thompson hit a layup. 39-36 Iona Prep.
9:22 p.m.: A couple of buckets from Bronner gave the Gaels a 7-0 run in the first :59 of the second half, and a 36-31 lead. On the downside, Lyde picked up his fourth foul.
9:11 p.m. Voelkel dunk. Triche answered with a runner and was fouled and made the FT for his 16th point of the half. Sandro Carissimo lost track of time in the final nine seconds and Iona couldn’t get off a shot before the buzzer. Halftime score 31-29, J-D.
9:08 p.m.: Iona’s Matthew Lyde picked up his third foul. Jamesville up 28-27.
9:03 p.m.: Jeff Mack just finished a three-point play for a 25-22 Iona lead, and the big guy, Coleman got his third foul. Triche has no fouls, but the rest of the starters are in foul trouble.
9:02 p.m.: They’re trading punches now. 22-22 with 3:41 left in the second quarter. Four of J-D’s starters have two fouls apiece.
8:56 p.m. Demetrius Mitchell’s putback for J-D gives the Red Rams their first lead, 14-13.
8:53 p.m.: Both teams tough under their own baskets; Iona drew a coupe of charges late in the quarter, and Coleman is owning the boards and blocked two shots. Voelkel has five points and four rebounds, Triche has seven points. After one quarter, Iona 13-9.
8:44 p.m.: Voelkel big defensive board, Lyde putback and fouled, but missed the FT. 7-0 Iona. Then Triche drove for a layup and was fouled and made the three-point play. Voelkel hit a three, and it’s 10-3. Iona’s bench was just assessed a technical foul, apparently on one of the assistant coaches. So it’s 10-4 and J-D gets the ball back.
8:38 p.m.: Voelkel came back with a bucket, and so did Andre Pope, and it’s 5-0 early for Iona.
8:35 p.m.: Just underway. Brian Voelkel’s first shot was blocked by 6-8 (he looks bigger) freshman Dajuan Coleman.

Hey, it’s Carp filling in for Kevin Devaney Jr., who doesn’t know that Josh Thomson and I snuck out and hit a bucket of balls in Glens Falls this afternoon.
Before we get going with what should be an awesome Iona Prep-Jamesville-DeWitt Class A semifinal, I should tell you that Long Island Lutheran bombed Curtis, 67-42 in the other semifinal. You should also know that Long Island Lutheran played in the Slam Dunk at County Center, which is where Iona Prep suffered its only loss this season against Peekskill. Long Island Lutheran lost to Gorton in that tournament, and also lost to New Rochelle during the season, and Iona beat New Ro by 38, for what that’s worth.
You already know that J-D beat Peekskill in OT last weekend for the public schools state championships, and that J-D lost only once this year (to AA semifinalist Syracuse-CBA), and that J-D is the two-time state champ and defending Federation champ; and also that Iona bombed Newburgh during the season, and that Newburgh is in the AA Federation championship game Sunday against tomorrow’s Rice-Lincoln winner.

That was a horrendous blog by carp. Almost as bad as devaney saying he got chills when he saw the documentary on mt vernons hoop season
Thanks, bob
can we please get a couple of faster updates..

is there a live feed of this game on lohud?
update?
Lets Go Gaels
by the way, loved your Messier book
Update?
No live feed tonight. Sorry.
How about some half time numbers?
GO GAELS!
Why would there be a webcast for this game? Its only two of the better teams in the state.
No Webcast? Lohud is minor league, Carp.
this is probably the worst on the entire website… we have to wait every 3 minutes for an update….such a let down from lohud
Good try Gaels and best of luck to J-D. Iona rules is right: lohud is minor league.
You shoud have been on http://www.poststar.com
No legs in fourth quarter to many days off great year
Not that it will happen, but amazingly, LI Lutheran, who lost to Gorton in the first round of the Slam Dunk, could actually win the Federation. I know they had injuries, including to Tobias Harris, and had 8 or so losses. Guess Kevin was wrong about Iona Prep being better than Peekskill. I know the layoff probably hurt the Gaels though.
#1fan, gee, I’m so sorry for making you wait.
jamesville dewitt took it to us tonight. no excuses. could not stop triche or hymes….had opportunities in the 1st half to open up a big lead but kept missing foul shots. the tech foul on the iona bench was a momentum killer as it was called right after a jd offensive foul (potential 6 point swing)
came out with 7 point run to start the 3rd and take a 6 point lead then fizzled from exhaustion. pope could not get open, voelkel tired, and carissimo had an off night…..bronner and mack played well but triche and hymes combining for 42 points was the difference..

Well, what can one say, Iona looked good in the first half and kept everyone in check except Trishe’. In the second half J-D slowly pulled away from a tiring Iona squad, I guess that’s what a two week lay-off does to a team but I give J-D credit for recognizing that and capitalizing on it. Iona, congratulations is in order on a spectacular season. J-D on the other hand is on their final leg of being a force to be reckoned with in state competition as Trishe’, Hymes, Thomkins and Weekes all moving on, who do they have left Coleman and Keersey. I say it’s two and done for the team from the Syracuse area. Iona will be back in the thick of it next year along with the usual suspects from Section 1. Good luck to all the Gael seniors.
considering what amounted to almost half of the points lutheran scored tonight against curtis in harris, johnson and florin were all injured when they played those teams you mentioned, i think you should take those new-roc and gorton scores with a rather large grain of salt.
Great season for Iona, who should go into next season as the Federation favorites. I really thought Iona would win this game. Jamesville Dewitt was not playing as they were in the beginning of the season, and Iona had been consistant all year. In a one and done game against a team, anything can happen. How many sports teams lose the first game of a best of 7 series, and go on to win the series? Basketball is very unforgiven in a one and done senerio.
Great season Iona! Aside from Pope & Lyde are there any other players graduating?? Also, hows the talent on the JV @ Iona??
iona
A big turnaround for this game was the technical on the Iona bench. The bench needed to keep their composure.
Before the game I felt that Iona needed a strong effort by their money players. Jordan Bronner really was the only player who delivered last night. Iona did not shoot well. Andre Pope (2-10) Sandro Carrissimo (4-16) and Brian Voelkel (4-11) was the story. Iona needed two of these players to have their typical games to win. I hope last night did not cost Andre Pope any college offers.
All year I was concerned about the Iona free throw shooting and last night they shot 50% (8-16) from the line. The two week layoff did not help Iona last night. In reality they have played only 2 games in three weeks which did not help. You just felt like Iona lost a lot of their momentum. Big layoffs have really hurt the top teams in this area like Mount Vernon and Iona Prep.
greg k
The Junior Varsity talent this year is just above average. In a 25 game season I would say they are a 14-11 type of talent. I base this on the level of competition they will face in the CHSAA.
Iona Power, thanks for the update. I was concerned with the layoff and as I read the blog updates it was clear that IP was running on tired legs. Clearly JD is a great team, I only wish that IP didn’t have such a long layoff. Both halves started strong for IP. Perhaps it was tired legs or just a more patient and talented JD team. In either case IP’s coaches and players have moved the program to another level which makes me proud. Conrgatulations to Iona and it’s fine young men!!
This was a good season for Iona Prep, but not a great one. All season their fans put down every team, and made Iona Prep as the best team around. They had only three games against top quality teams. They beat Newburgh who are much better now then they were in December. They peaked late. They lost to Peekskill, and got smacked by JD. Only a Federation championship would justify all they hype and smack the Prep fans talked all year. I’m sorry I can’t be nice after the mess the prep fans caused this year. They were just a decent team in a weak league. Winning the A State Title is nice but when a team is hyped as much as Iona was they can’t go out and lose like the did to JD.
bball
You just exemplify some of the ignorance of people who think they know something about High School Basketball-
Iona Prep ended the season 27-2 and ranked in the top ten in various area polls such as MSG, NY HOOPS and NYC Hoops.
For you to say the CHSAA A is a weak league shows your lack of knowledge- After the CHSAA AA I will take the CHSAA A over most leagues.
Iona has beaten Newburgh (NYS Public Champ), Bishop Ford and Stepinac 2 times, Mount St. Michael 3 times, New Rochelle, White Plains, Greece Athena (Ranked in the NYS Poll), St. Dominics, and All Hallows (CHSAA AA Semifinal Team) so you are completely wrong about the competition.
For anyone to have to defend a team that ended a season as 27-2 with a CHSAA A City Title and Catholic State Title and a Federation Appearance is just ridiculous.
Next time before you make yourself look like a fool you should disclose the team you support.
Congrats to Iona on a great season. As well as MV and Peek.
bball…regardless of how the fans acted throughout the year doesn’t justify you essentially attacking the players.
The actual team is excellent. Like Iona P said they DID play solid competition. Their season ended with a loss to an outstanding team with a great leader. There is no shame in that. Good luck to the departing seniors. We will be seeing Iona in the spotlight again next year..that is a lock.
great season for iona. i think jdewitt as well as a HEALTHY lilutheran team are just better teams – that’s all. hopefully pope will get an offer – all year long iona fans were saying he is d1 – maac level – hopefully!
not sure if i understand the 2 week lay-off. didn’t they just scrimmage rice on monday – or is the scrimmage now not as important as a game? i am sure if iona won last night there would be statements that it was because they prepared so well in scrimmaging rice?
peekfatdaddy:
enough with gorton beating lutheran. kevin johnson and tobias harris didn’t play. so the common opponent theory is not consistent – let alone when one opponent’s 2 best players aren’t there.
ballfan… you are 100% right about LIL. They are a completly different team. 6 of the loses were during a time when they weren’t healthy. The other 2 were to Rice and Jefferson. Those are quality losses. If they beat JD that is not a shock. They are as athletic and they are sporting two big time D1 talents. If they played Gorton today, they would beat them by 20+.
Hey,, all you babies out there compaining about no live feed. Why don’t you ask your school why they don’t provide the service… Why break the journal news guys chops.
HR’s
Long Island Lutheran also went into St. Anthony of NJ and beat them so that is enough for me to realize that they were going to be a factor. The Slam Dunk tournament is such a long time ago for them and when you take out Tobias Harris who is a BCS conference recruit they are totally different.
Jamesville – Dewitt is a great team but I believe the two week lay off did not help Iona. Of course the main reason for Iona losing was that they did not get the type of game out of their stud players that most people has seen all year. I also think the long layoff hurt Mount Vernon in their game against Newburgh.
I think Iona Prep does have an excellent opportunity to win the CHSAA A and hopefully compete for a Federation berth. I do think the loss of Pope is bigger than most people think as he was always a threat to score 15-20 points each night and did play good defense.
Iona Power
As someone who almost agrees with you and is a big supporter of Iona Prep and was there last night, I can tell you that the turning point for Iona came when Pope went down against Peekskill. I do not agree that their competition was great. Good, not great. They out-talented people the second half of the season. When Pope went down, they lost their natural leader, and when he returned, they put him in the corner and forgot him, turning the page to the juniors. Others stepped in, which worked against lesser competition but when you had to play a team like JD, there was no one to step in and lead as their previous leader was in the corner. The coach did not find a way to integrate him again well and they did not play as well. He will be missed as he is a very unselfish kid. I believe they must find a leader and the problem is all of them seem to be trying to get their name out there. I only hope they see that they all benefit from being a team. That should not change the fact that they had a great year. I still think are as good as any team around. They just lost the chemistry formula last night.
ionapower,
what did the iona bench say to get that technical in the 1st quarter when iona was on the verge of taking a double digit lead? whatever it was, it was inexcusable. why would you say something when the refs call a player control foul in your team’s favor? that blunder instantaneously put j-dewitt right back in the game. it still was anyone’s game until one minute left in the 3rd when dewitt scored the last four points of the quarter to take a 6 point lead to start the 4th quarter. voelkel sitting out the first few minutes of the 4th made no sense to me either with the season on the line. he was not in foul trouble.
the stats you cite are frightening . voelkel, pope and carissimo shot a combined 10-37. that is 27% from the field . add to that 50% from the free throw line including the front end of a few 1 and 1’s….ouch! i give credit to j-dewitt for a great scouting job. they actually beat iona at its own game with the quick transition game. voelkel could not find anyone with his long pass, but dewitt did.
disappointed, but still satisfied with what the team accomplished this season. 27-2, with a state league championship, losing to only peekskill and jamesville- dewitt is something to be very proud about.
watching long island lutheran play yesterday and lose at full strength in the poughkeepsie pioneer tournament v bishop mcginn, I do not think lilu has a chance against jamesville- dewitt tonight, if dewitt comes to play.
Iona Power
Get a clue! The technical was not the turning point of the game! It was 10-4 at that point.. Let’s get real! From what I heard one of the assistants was encouraging Carissimo and it was construed as taunting JD. Ridiculous and senseless call from the LOCAL ref!!! JD was the better team last night and anyone who saw the game would agree! Stop Looking for an excuse. Iona had a few opportunities to pull away and simply could not because of JD’s poise and experience. Great season Iona!
Congrats to Iona Prep on a good season…
A few observations…Iona won by to many blowouts which left them untested in battle and in the few close games they had, to a man they ran out of gas and showed rubber legs. Perhaps the great Iona coaching staff should emphasize more conditioning next year.
I hope this ends some of the 4 D-1 player babble, its certainly not a knock to go on and play college hoops at any level. There are some great D-3 programs and with the exception of Cariisimo, thats were the rest filter out. Pope can shoot but is very undersized to try to defend the like of a Trish. Vokel did not impress agains a 9th grader let alone a college level 6’8” kid, which will be an every night affair at D-1. Bronner great HS athlete, but not a D-1 basketball player.
In the end Iona’s “team of the Century” did not fair much better than P’Ville’s team of the century last year in Slam Dunk vs J Dewitt, which was stronger last year. Just ask Peekskill..
hoopla15,
no one is looking for an excuse. j-dewitt is a powerful team and won the game fair and square. the refs were overall fair in my opinion. there were a lot of player control fouls and blocking fouls called. they refs got most right.
but that tech foul on the bench in the first quarter, sounds like an over zealous ref making a huge momentum swinging call. The score was 10-3 and iona had the ball to possibly go ahead 12 or 13-3. instead jd was on the line shooting 2 and got the ball back. it was very quickly a 10-9 game. so that was the first huge game turning point. The second and final game turning point was when iona shot out to a to a 36-31 lead at the start of the 3rd quarter and could not sustain the level of play necessary to hold the lead. triche, hymes, thompson and coleman had a lot to do with that however.
hoopla15
As someone who has been to about 25 of the 29 games this year plus scrimmages against JFK and Rice I think I have a clue.
First of all if you read what I wrote I was not making excuses. Jamesville – Dewitt was the better team and deserved to win. I was giving my opinion as to why Iona Prep did not win the game.
I stated several different factors as to why they lost. It ranged from free throw shooting, field goal percentage, and the technical foul which got jamesville back in the game. I also felt that long layoff had a negative effest on the team. Coach Vic also publicly expressed this concern during the week.
iona
i do not know what the justification was for the technical. With referees you never know what flicks their switch. I am as well very proud of the great season this group had and wish the seniors success in their future. I really hope Andre Pope secures a basketball scholarship as he is a great kid and is a main reason for the success the team has had the last two years. The last last two years have been a great ride with the team winning over 20 games and winning the CHSAA A Championship. I think next year will be another successful year. I am a little worried about 2-3 years down the line as I personally view the Freshmen and Sophmore talent as 14-11 type of talent. I had thought that the incoming freshmen class was going to be very good but apparantly some things have changed.
IP had a great season and represented the CHSAA “A” in a first class manner. The last three “A” reps have given a great account of themselves in Glens Falls. One of these years the league may win one of these things again.
A big shout out to Kevin and the LoHud staff for the great coverage of the season and the States.
I understand that Binghamton would like to host the Federation. It would be a good spot.
rice beat lincoln , 77-50. newburgh is in trouble tomorrow….stevenson and triche were named co-winners of mr nys state basketball this season.
voelkel senior’s collegiate team won the “b” federation championship again, 57-55 over bishop kearney.
Congratulations to Iona’s players and coaches, they have much to be proud of. Winning the CHSAA A league is always a great accomplishment.
I think Iona fannn called it correctly. Pope started out the season on fire and Iona seemed almost unstoppable at that point. When Pope was slowed in the Peekskill game, Iona showed their first signs of weakness. Pope never seemed to regain his early season form and Iona never regained their unbeatableness. When Pope came back the other juniors had stepped up to take some of that offensive burden and on this type of talented team, it would’ve been tough for Pope to re-exert himself into a starring role without ruffling some feathers. I don’t know if there’s an answer in retrospect that Iona could’ve done to re-insert Pope into a primary role in the offense.
Iona goes into next season the favorite to repeat as CHSAA A champion. Stepinac should be very good, better than this year. Mount has a lot of players coming back. Hayes should be improved. Ford will be tough again. All that being said, I don’t see any other A team having a chance to unseat Iona next year except for Stepinac (unless Mount has an excellent new backcourt emerge) and that would take a herculean effort. Jamesville Dewitt loses a lot to graduation. Peekskill should be tough as always. Lutheran returns a lot of players and will be very tough as well.
by the way, now that the final local team has played their last game it got me thinking about ranking the top 5-10 local teams.
1 – Peekskill – Since Peekskill beat Iona head-to-head and definitely played J-D closer, I give Peekskill the edge.
2 – Iona – Probably their best season ever.
3 – MV – hard to rank MV #3, particularly because they lost on a miraculous shot, but they played up and down all year and its hard to rank a team like ahead of a very consistent team like Iona.
4 – Stepinac – came one foul shot away from a rematch with Iona in the CHSAA A finals.
5 – Poughkeepsie – had it not been for their blowout loss to MV I would’ve ranked them #4 ahead of Stepinac. I just don’t see Stepinac getting blow out by MV as Pok did.
6 – New Rochelle – didn’t quite live up to heavy early season expectations. Should be very good next year.
7 – Mount – very solid year
8 – Yorktown – very close to the upset of the decade at the County Center
9 – Lakeland – definitely made Peekskill earn the A title
10 – Lincoln Hall – excellent season
Early 2009-10 predictions-
1 – Iona Prep
2 – New Rochelle – Mason, Torres, Burton, Laurent
3 – Mount Vernon – it remains to be seen how the supporting cast for Jabarie Hinds will be next year. I’d suspect they step up well.
4 – Stepinac – could move up
5 – Peekskill
6 – Poughkeepsie
7 – Mount
9 – Gorton
10 – Lakeland/White Plains
DOWN GOES J-D ! ! ! Long Island Lutheran made easy work of J-D tonight 68 – 51. At the end of the 1st quarter LIL was up by 6 and by the half they opened it up big time 37 – 23 and never looked back. LIL held Brandon Triche’ to 8 points 2-11 from the floor and 3-4 freethrows. Hymes scored 17 and Coleman 13 for J-D and for LIL Harris had 27, Yacoubou 16 and Johnson 10. LIL has been wait since last year to get back at J-D.
underthestands
I didn’t realize the schools were Media Outlets. Iona must not have enough leftists in the fan base for the JN to cover them.
Many people doubted Long Island Lutheran, and called Tobias Harris soft. However, you have to give him credit for coming back from a big injury, and leading his team to a Federation championship. Someone mentioned “peaking”. I am a strong believer in a team that peaks a the right time can win it all. I am not predicting a Newburgh victory, but they are peaking at the right time.
I am also a firm believer in the devastating effects of long layoffs. Byes can cause a team to have to say bye from the playoffs. Some teams handle layoffs better that others, but a team that plays constantly will be better off than a team that did not play competitively for a long time.
I am shocked that Rice beat up on Lincoln. Don’t get me wrong, Rice was more consistent than Lincoln all year long, but during the Lance Stephenson era, Lincoln absolutely owned Rice. Lance Stephenson should be the sole winner of NY State Mr Basketball. He actually should have won it last year, but they gave it to Sylven Landesberg. As good as Sylven Landesberg was last year, Lance Stephenson was even better. Also, love him or hate him, he is now the all time leading scorer in the history of NY State basketball, and leaves with one of the most remarkable winning records in HS Basketball.
http://www.zagsblog.com/2009/02/15/lance-sets-new-york-scoring-record/
On second thought, is The NY State Mr. Basketball like an MVP? If so, then you have to give it to Tobias Harris. When he went down, Long Island Lutheran couldn’t beat anyone. He comes back, and they may be the best team in the State. If they played Rice, I am picking them.
Lastly, after winning State and PSAL championships, how does it feel for some of those teams to lose the last game of their season in a Federation game. Is it fair for Champions to lose their last game? It takes the shine off of great seasons, and that is unfortunate.
Jayden,
Im not surprised that Rice beat Lincoln, I’ve thought they were the better team all year – but I was surprised at the score. Not a great way to go out for Stephenson. I also wasn’t surprised that Lutheran beat J-D, but again I was surprised at the margin of victory. I’d like to read in-depth recaps of both of those games since I wasn’t able to see either.
In terms of a total career, I agree that Stephenson belongs up there in the conversation for best players ever in the PSAL, but I don’t think I could put him above Lew Alcindor, Kenny Anderson or Felipe Lopez. I never saw Connie Hawkins play in high school, but he might belong up there as well. Lincoln had too many cupcake 40-50 point victories in the PSAl his first 3 years.
This year has really been sporadic in terms of who is beating who in NY on the high school level. Making a NYS top 10 is an almost impossible task. Here’s my attempt.
1 – Rice
2 – Christ the King
3 – Lutheran
4 – Jamesville-Dewitt
5 – Lincoln
honorable mention (not in order) – Peekskill, Iona, MV, Newburgh, Jefferson, Kennedy, Boys & Girls, Bishop Ford
I am shocked Rice won in that fashion. But that’s basketball. Not surprised at LIL beat JD(mentioned it above) Jayden.. I think you are getting a little crazy with LIL now beating Rice. They are hot, but Rice is a bad match up for them. Harris wouldn’t be as much of a factor as he was against JD.
Next year they will play again and the best players on LIL will be back. We will see how they fare…
In terms of Lance S… what he did may never be duplicated. 4 City championships and 2 feds.. He is a winner.
So it doesnt matter what your character is. As long as u win basketball games then you are considered something positive.
Kevin.. Would you have any idea on how many Section I players go on to PLAY college ball each year at any level. I emphasize PLAY. I go to quite a few games every season and I really don’t see that many kids who are good enough to PLAY at a higher level. Very good HS ballers, but that about it. Some bloggers suggest that all 5 starters on some teams go on to play college ball. I would just like to know how many kids from 2008 graduating class actually got to play at the next level.
Rice beats NFA 70-68 in OT
hoops fan,
here is my nys top 10..taking into account the game newburgh played against rice today and all the games and scrimmages that i was able to get to this season or watch online or on msg.
1- rice
2- lutheran
3- jamesville dewitt
4- peekskill
5- iona
6- ctk
7- newburgh
8- mount vernon
9- ford
10- lincoln
NRA,
Since when is streaming video a media outlet? Schools all across the midwest use streaming video for all thier sporting events. As well as plays and graduation. Westchester is just behind the times on it. College coaches love it. Lo Hud was third party vending it. Best of all. if you know the right company they can put in your school free.
IonaPower
Let me break it down for you! You say you have been to 25-30 Iona games this year? Well, you should have realized that Pope was not left out in the corner as you say! The offense is the dribble drive motion that features two shooters opposite of one another(Pope/Carrissimo)in what they call the long corner in basketball
They set it up this way so the defense can be stretched out on close outs when the ball handler goes middle off the bounce! If the defense stops this dribble penetration the guards are instructed and drilled in coming to a jumpstop and kicking the ball out to the shooters! The reason why this can be effective is because the defense has to account for Pope and carrissimo on both sides of the floor! They just can’t shade to one shooter they have to account for both and that is difficult because of the floor spacing and ability of the guards getting into the middle! Furthermore, I like Pope as a player he plays hard and is a good defender. However, he strength is a spot up long range shooter who will beat the slower defenders but not quality quicker defenders off the bounce and when he penetrates he gets what we call knocked off your move with a bump that usually comes with the big boys defending (Rice, MV, CTK, JD Peek etc)He does not have the strength to what is called finishing off the bump! He looses the ball and falls down as was evident against JD and a few other teams this year! In the end, I think he is a good high school player but not a D1 player but a definite D2 and I think D1 coaches share this opinion because he does not have any official D1 offers as of yet! Furthermore, to say coach Vic did not find a way to utilize him when he came back could not be further from the truth! and not a fair criticism of vic. If anything, vic and the staff should be applauded for helping him get his confidence back when he was struggling before the playoffs! One last thing, This offense was brought in by coach Vigg. He learned it from a Bob Hurley asst and convinced Vic it was right for this Iona team. Vigg taught the terms, drills and options to the players. Great head coaches trust and allow their assts to have input.
Congratulations goes out to Iona Prep and Newburgh. A loss at the Federation should not be construed as a failure by any means for either team. Both of these teams had tremendous seasons, and certainly will be the favorites next year for State Champions in their respective divisions. Again, tremendous seasons to both teams. Now, the bad part. AAU basketball. Arrrrghhhh!
hoopla 15
Why are you directing your last post at me. I never questioned Coach Vic and his useage of Andre Pope.
I believe it was “Iona Fannnn” who made these comments.
“iona fannn” has been complaining all season about what he perceives as andre pope’s reduced role on the team this season. from what i could see all year, the team was anxious to have andre contribute in every way he was able. in the pre-season scrimmages and the 1st few games, andre was knocking down 7 or 8 three pointers a game and that made winning easy for iona.
i wonder how iona will replace andre’s important role on offense next season. jeff mack can do it if he would learn to come to that jump stop and pass the ball out to shooters as “hoopla 15” says iona guards are trained to do when challenged in the lane.
Iona has 1 more year and then that’s it! Their JV sucks and so do their Freshman. They are getting nobody in for next year either! Enjoy 1 more year Iona! LETS GO STEPINAC!!! Stepinac is young and getting a awesome class in next year! IONA IS DONE!
lets get some football talk goin
cHsaa!!!
Maybe Stepinac will be able to win a football game against Iona maybe once in the next 20 years.
By the way the Stepinac did NOT SWEEP Iona on the JV and FROSH levels. The games were split.
IonaPower
Look at your blog regarding usage of Pope.
Coach D
You are soo right about AAU..
hoopla 15,
you need to go back and read the blogs. it was “iona fannnn” who thought andre pope should have been the “team leader” and “not put in the corner” whatever that is supposed to mean.
you said before that you had inside info on iona…...tell me then why voelkel sat out the first few minutes of the 4th quarter against jamesville-dewitt?....also tell me why the full court trap/press was taken off early in the 3rd quarter when iona looked to be taking control of the game?
hoopla 15
I believe you are referring to the below entry that was made by “Iona Fannn” directed at me.

RICE 70 NFA 68 in OT. What a great game. Great Season for the goldbacks.
HOPEFULLY POPE GETS A SCHOLARSHIP – IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON HE WAS AUTOMATIC MAAC LEVEL – ACCORDING TO SOME ON THESE BLOGS. EITHER IONA OR POPE DIDN’T DO THEIR JOB OR PEOPLE ON THESE BLOGS ARE CLUELESS.
COACH VIGG = SAUNDERS ENOUGH SAID.
IONA PLAYED ONE ON ONE STREETBALL BASKETBALL AND WERE VERY SUCCESSFUL B/C OF VOELKEL AND SANDRO! STOP WITH THE MEMPHIS DRIBBLE DRIVE OFFENSE LIKE THEY INVENTED SOME NEW SCHEME. IONA WILL PROBABLY WIN THE CHSAA”A” NEXT YEAR.
AAU = HORRIBLE COACHING / DISORGANIZATION / NO DISCIPLINE / WANNABE STREET AGENTS / KIDS BOUNCE FROM ONE TEAM TO THE NEXT EVERY WEAK…IT’S A COMPLETE CIRCUS ACT.
Hoopla is always the guy to bash Pope. It makes him feel good and he likes to diminish all his accomplishments. It might take a year in Prep school but he is a D-1 player.
Iona played bad in the Jamesville game but the Coach made 0 adjustments and never called a timeout when Dewitt was on a run. Whenever Iona played in a big game against a team at their talent level (Jamesville, Peekskill) they were outcoached plain and simple. Iona did not handle the bigger venues of the County Center or Glen Falls well at all.
Your only as good as your players
I am not bashing Pope just stating the truth! As for the comment about Vigg and Saunders? No bball coach has ever won there! and no one will ever! Why don’t you ask coach Vic, Fraher or Cimmino what they think of Vigg’s basketball coaching abilities? He played for Cimmino in 8th grade at St Ursula. They won the State CYO championship and he was Cimmino’s PG.
SO THAT MEANS IF POPE GOES A YEAR PREP HE WILL BE LIKE
21 OR 22 YEARS OLD IN HIS F1RST YEAR IN COLLEGE?
I FIGURED AS GREAT AS IONA IS AT EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD, THAT POPE WOULD HAVE HAD A SCHOLARSHIP OFFER BY NOW.
SO GETTING CONFIRMATION FROM FRAHER / CIMMINO / VIC MAKES HIM GOOD – OKAY SORRY I MADE THE COMMENT…
YOU ARE A TOOL – YOU ARE STARTING TO SOUND LIKE COACH DARLOS
Section 1 BBall,
You are right on in your analysis, could not agree with you more about the coaching. Seemed like the technical foul called on the Iona bench vs Jamesville really subdued the Iona coaches. I think that Vic’s poor in game management has shown itself in the championship game last year vs Ford, the Peekskill game, and the Jamesville game. THE problem is his reluctance to ever go zone. He is hung up on playing full court man for the whole game when a zone could really help in certain situations. To give a team a different look, hide players in foul trouble, or give your team a rest when they are tired, like they were vs Jamesville. The kids were holding their shorts from the second quarter on. It was obvious the big court got to them, they looked like a tired team. Getting back to your point about being outcoached, the problem is the good teams, especially when you get to the state level or a good coach like Panzanaro, will switch defenses on you, give different looks. Coach P saw Iona vs Newburgh and had his team well prepared to break the press, which was the diference in the game. Both times Iona went on a 7-0 run vs J-D, their coach called a timeout. When J-D, went on runs, especially the one in the 4th quarter, Iona never called a timeout. But Iona never makes adjustments, offensively or defensively. They beat teams this year cause they had more talent, and when the talent vs equal, Peekskill and J-D, their lack of adjustments hurt them. Iona can win the federation next year if 2 things happen: 1) they play zone every now and then, which probably won’t happen because the coach is stubborn. But on the state level, you need to give teams different looks 2) Voelkel spends more time down low and less time at the top of the key. Too many times he gets caught up there with the ball. Great season for Iona, wish Pope all the best. An Iona-LI Lutheran game in next year’s federation final would be nice, but Peekskill will have something to say about that
Iona,
How did I know you were going to find a way to rank Iona in the top 5 of NYS? Iona is undoubtedly the 4th best team in A across NYS (seems obvious from the results of the last two weeks) yet still sneak into your #5 overall state ranking. Certainly you can rank anyone wherever you want.
In regards to all the talk about Pope, I think some of it may be overdone. As a 5’10” shooting guard, he was never a lock for a MAAC level scholarship. The only 5’10” shooting guard I remember in the MAAC was Keydren Clark and Pope is not a scorer or ballhandler like Clark was. Pope is a very nice player though and I think there is a chance he gets a late lower DI offer (maybe somewhere like NJIT) or a DII offer – I hope he does, seems like a nice kid. Comparing him to the last DI players out of Iona (Jackette and Delfico, who were solid players in the MAAC) many years ago – I just don’t see him as that kind of player. Pope’s junior and senior years seemed kind of up and down – you’d have to hope that the right people saw him on one of his good days and not one of the not so good days.
Section 1 BBall,
You may have a point about lack of in game adjustments – I didn’t see the J-D game, so I’ll have to take your word on it. I think at the end of the day, Iona had a great season this year by playing remarkably consistent. Iona didn’t play any horrible games and they beat all the teams that it was more talented than. I think the issue was Iona didn’t play as well against the two teams it played that had close to or equal the talent it has. J-D arguably had more talent than Iona. I felt Peekskill had less talent than Iona and I was surprised when they beat Iona, but I think Peekskill is very well suited to Iona’s current style of play. In the end, can you get mad at a team that beat everyone it was supposed to beat and lost only 2 games against very talented teams? I’d say no.
Section 1
I just mentioned those coaches because they are considered good high school coaches and I know for a fact they respect him as a basketball coach. That’s all. It’s unfair to judge him when he was at Saunders. Some situations are irreversible without the players or other factors.
Hoopla 15
The Memphis offense, which Iona uses, has been a failure everywhere it has been. Memphis underachieved this year in the tourney. The Nets are underachieving with it. It is basically 1 on 1 basketball. It hurt Chris Lowe at UMass this year. I do not believe Pope ever understood it. Further, the inventor of it, has had three jobs in three years. You see Pope was trained as a point guard. He was the point guard the last two years. He was the point guard for his AAU team which went to the Final 64 and almost beat the Gauchos, who finished second in the country. He was his AAU team’s best player. He is a point guard. In this offense, he stood in the corner, in essence, playing 3, and did not know what to do. He happened to shoot well early so everything seemed fine but when he returned from his injury, he was specifically told not to venture out or to handle the ball.
This team won because they had four D1 or D2 kids and most other teams have 1 or 2. They out-talented people. For Pope, a team guy through and through, playing in this system and not a conventional one was a disaster as he is not a 1 on 1 player. Injuries this past summer prevented him from generating D1 interest as he only played at the Nationals. Playing well this year was very important but coaches want to win and the coach went with his healthy players and a system which he felt would help him win though it would not help a true 5-10 point guard.
By the way, before the season, the knock on Pope was he could not shoot. LOL
I am not going to go back and forth with you. But you are way off… Anyways, thanks for your opinion.
Oh and just for the record Bob Hurley at St. Anthony’s of Jersey City is a strong proponent of the dribble drive motion! That is where Iona got it
and I am sure you do not think Hurley would use a universally bad scheme as you say lol
Hoopla15 or should I say Coach Vigg, your making it WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY to obvious buddy!!!!!! Playing for Cimmino in CYO ball? Serious? Get a life man!!! NO need to come on this blog and pump up your knowledge and coaching ability. Saunders? And don’t make excuses. Can’t win there? Rizzo seems to have a pretty good job of changing the culture and atmosphere of a Yonkers Public School. Why? It’s called effort and desire. Not making excuses and acting like a baby when things don’t go your way. I seem to re-call an incident that happened while coaching there, but won’t bring it up since your such a great coach and disciplinarian!!!!!
Hoopla 15
And the guys at UMass used it with a great team at UMass and ruined Chris Lowe. And it will cost Lawrence Frank a job, too! You fit the personnel to a scheme. Memphis’s offense was horrible except for Evans. This offense does not work for everybody. Iona would have beaten all those teams with a motion or flex offense. The bottom line is they had more talent than Peekskill or JD and the offense did not work against those teams when they played. Vic said it yesterday. We were too selfish, he said. It has too many people standing around. Maybe it works for Bob Hurley. The fact that he can recruit works for him, too. Coaching is about getting the most out of your players. Sandro is a beast. Voelkel is a beast. Bronner is a talent. None are point guards. Pope is and was 4th team all state last year as the point guard even though he missed time due to his dad’s death. Yet, in this system, he was a standstill shooter. They had a great team and at least two of them will get DI deals next year. It just did not work for Pope. College coaches would come and he was standing in the corner, not moving. So, sure they won but they could have won walking the ball upcourt. But did this system get the most out of its players? I would argue no because in the only games where they played real tough competition at the time those teams were peaking, Iona did not meet the challenge. That does not mean they failed because they succeeded enormously. It just means they could have done even better. They had the most talent in the state. Four major players and several role players. No one else had more than two major players, not Mount Vernon, not JD, not LIL, not NFA, not Peekskill, none of them.
No I am a good friend of coach Vigg that’s all
Iona fans,
Now that your bball season is over after a great run it is now time to turn to football and the question is, once again, when is iona gonna make the call to don bosco and set up a SCRIMMAGE, not a game, so that both teams can prepare the best way for the season and that would be playing each other. I do not want to hear about a greenwich scrimmage because Iona will smash greenwich and that is no way to prep for BC who will be ready on opening day. The 2 best teams in the area need to be on the field against each other.
Iona fannn poses a legitimate question of if the Memphis dribble drive offense worked best for Iona. This offense clearly comes from Memphis. St Anthony’s ran a little bit of it last year, but it wasn’t the only offense they ran. Its not as if this is the offense Hurley Sr has run to achieve all of his success. Also, I saw three of Iona’s games last year and I didn’t see Pope run the point for more than a short period of time in any of the games. I saw Bronner and Mack run the majority of the PG duties. This year I think it was more of the same.
I actually think to some degree the dribble drive offense was a good call for Iona. It allowed them to utilize their 3 guards and to be effective penetrating and kicking. Having seen Iona play, I dont think any of their guards were particularly effective taking it all the way to the rim and finishing, so an offense that encourages penetration then a kick to the wing for a 3 or a foul line extended pull up makes a lot of sense to me. The one knock on the dribble drive offense for Iona is that in their running it tended to underutilize Pope, particularly if you consider Mack’s impact when he entered the game and Voelkel occasionally stepping out on the perimeter.
The other potential knock on the dribble drive offense is that it can be a problem when too many of the guards want to shoot it or control the ball. Think of Memphis last year with Rose and Douglas-Roberts. It worked great because the 3rd guard with Rose and CDR didn’t worry about shooting. Last year at St Anthony’s all those guards already had scholarship offers and commitments, so they weren’t worried about scoring 5 points in a game.
If you have a lot of talent on offense you want to maximize the amount of possessions you’ll have, so running a full court press like Iona did sped up the pace of the games and fed into the dribble drive attack. Iona was arguably the most talented team in class A in the state besides Lutheran 1-7. At the end of the day, Iona beat all the teams that they were far more talented than – no upset losses. The two most talented teams they played which were closer in talent, they lost. It was a remarkable record for Iona, but I agree they would’ve had to beat J-D or Peekskill to make it a magical season based on how much talent they had.
HOOPLA 15:
PLEASE DON’T EVER TRY TO COMPARE ST. ANTHONY’S OFFENSE TO IONA’S – NOT EVEN CLOSE. IF YOU EVER WATCHED ST. ANTHONY’S PLAY – THEY NEVER STOOD AROUND WATCHING ONE GUY ATTACK – WETHER IT WAS DRIBBLE DRIVE / MEMPHIS / 4 OUT 1 IN… OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL IT!
IONA PLAYED 1 ON 1 WHILE THE OTHER 4 STOOD STILL AND WATCHED…AND WORST CASE SCENARIO WAS A KID NAMED VOELKEL WHO DID ALL THE CLEAN-UP. THEY FINISHED 26-2 – CITY / STATE CHAMPS – GREAT YEAR. BUT WHEN THEY PLAYED DEWITT / PEEKSKILL – 2 TEAMS SIMILAR IN TALENT – IT DID NOT WORK AND THERE TENACIOUS DEFENSE GAVE UP A COMBINED 144 POINTS IN THE 2 LOSSES – THAT WAS MORE OF THE PROBLEM.
IONA FANNN & DOSE OF REALITY MAKE SOME VALID POINTS.
Hoopla15 = TOOL

IonaFann and Dose of Reality,
Well said. Great points.
C’MON NOW
First of all their is no need to bash myself or coach Vigg. Like I posted earlier I am not Vigg. I go way back with him for over 20 years! I am sure you have friends that you care and support so I am just being a friend. Also, I know that he played at Ursula for Cimmino because I played there as well but I was a few years older. As for your comment about the incident at Saunders? Well, that is low but the fact was the player that hit him was not even a Saunders student! The player was a very disturbed child who lived in a group home and was allowed to play at Saunders because he was a Yonkers resident! Coach Vigg thought it would be nice to give the kid a chance and allow him to be part of something. It backfired! and the irony was that the players’ case manager and shrink were at the game that he lost it and hit Vigg when he was not looking! So, you want to make mention of it you should know the facts! As for Rizzo at Gorton? You can’t compare the athletes at Gorton to the athletes at Saunders! If you do not believe me than just look at the basketball rosters for both teams over the last 5 years! Gorton has much more talent! Although, I will say Rizzo did a good job this year and as he continues I am sure he will recruit just fine
I myself, have been to about 20 Iona games this year and know that Pope is a good player! Furthermore, I have never bashed him and never will! I just do not think at 5’10 he is a D1 two guard. However, as I mentioned before he is a terrific player and would be a nice fit on any D2 program! What is wrong with that? Lastly, it was posted that I am like coach Darlos? Although, I do not know him – I have heard is a good coach and good guy so I take it as a compliment
C’mon Now
I believe Rice is the best team in New York State. I have seen them play at the Gaucho Gym against Jefferson, CTK, St. Raymonds and Loughlin and came away very impressed. My only problem with them is that they seem to turn it on and off at different stages of the game. This was clearly evident during the recent Iona scrimmage at Manhattan College.
hoopla15
I for one believe Chris Viggiano is a very good assistant coach who should not be judged by any records at Saunders. NO ONE WILL EVER WIN AT SAUNDERS. I am also going to be interested in how some of the relationships that Rob Rizzo has with the CHSAA coaches continue as they will be going for a lot of the same players.
On a final note do you have any information on some of the incoming players as I wa sunder the impression that a good class was coming.
Hoopla 15
Thank you for proving my point. By calling Pope a 5-10 two guard, when the last two years he was the team’s PG and a 4th team All State PG at that, you proved the Memphis overrated dribble drive system did not work for everyone because it made the team’s point guard into a 2 guard in the year when he had to show everyone he was a PG. And in the biggest game of them all, the coach was surprised by his own team’s selfishness. I hope for next year that they mix it up or else they will have a great season, as they did this year, but come up short when they again will have the most talent. 1 on 1 basketball does not work against comparably talented teams. Ask Louisville, Syracuse or Memphis whose coach will take his out-talenting ways to Lexington.
Iona fannn,
Am I wrong in thinking that Bronner and Mack ran the point last year for Iona and two years again it was primary Brooner as a freshman. I always thought Pope played primarily off the ball. Maybe I’m wrong.
Iona Fann
Iona did have sets other than the dribble drive motion. They had one using a ball screen with a fade option on the weakside, another utilizing an x cut off voelkel and a third which was a high/low set..
IonaPower
I apologize if I thought it was your blog regarding Pope. As for the incoming class? No info at this time.. BTW, I agree Rice is the best team in the state!

You are right..

It is important for Iona Prep to have a strong class come in to reload the talent after the current Junior Class. In talking to a few people their was some hope that Iona would get some very good kids because a lot of them wanted to go to Iona. I know you stated that the CT kids they were looking at did not get in and that is a big loss for the future.
I think the current FR and SO classes are 14-11 type of teams at the CHSAA A level.
I will see youll on the Football field
We will be putting our spring youth games online. Check the Football Talent in Mount Vernon
More Mount Vernon Residents have gone on to play college football over the last 8 year then any westchester town.
IonaPower,
I’ve heard you talk a lot about the incoming freshman class of basketball players at Iona. I don’t have any information to add to the discussion and if I did, I would probably feel a little uncomfortable talking about a 14 year old’s high school plans. However, keep one thing in mind – this great junior class at Iona matriculated after a very mediocre, maybe under .500 record for Iona’s varsity that season. This was the same year that Melquan Bolding and Tony Taylor dominated Iona in the Stepinac/Iona games. Any kid who watched those Stepinac/Iona games would’ve wanted to come to Stepinac, not Iona. Iona also hadn’t had a DI player in years – Stepinac had two future ones on the court those nights. It still makes me scratch my head in the good fortune of Iona how all these kids ended up there. I bring up these points just to let you know that sometimes the choices of 8th graders or their parents can be surprising. I suspect Iona will have a decent class of freshman next year and I would think the same for Stepinac. If any Iona fans are expecting a repeat of this kind of class, I’d point out that it has never happened before in all the years of Iona fielding a basketball team so that might be too high of an expectation. 14-11 in the CHSAA A league is still something to hold your head up about. If it is true that a couple kids wanted to go to Iona and weren’t admitted due to academics I applaud Iona for upholding their academic standards. If all of a sudden Iona started producing powerhouse basketball teams with a bunch of kids who didn’t do well academically I can imagine plenty of alumni would not be happy about that.
ionapower / hoops fan:
you guys make good points and unbiased. stepinac and iona are very good programs in the 3 major sports: football / basketball / baseball and they have, in my opinion , some of the best coach’s and most fun and competitive rivalry in the area!
ionapower/hoopsfan:
if your kids were approaching 9th grade next year – where would you send them considering all 3 aspects 1. financial 2. academics 3. sports…even though i think i know what the answer is!!!
hoopla15:
i do agree that pope is no more then a d2 player – and you are right there is nothing wrong with that!
i totally disagree that noone will win at saunders. it will not be easy for the gorton coach either but i bet you will see him work and put much more time in.
funny, i don’t remember anyone saying what great asst. coach’s iona had when pope was a soph. and they were a 500 team – kind of funny how much better a coaching staff can get when they have some really good players!
ionapower:
going 14-11 if iona does not get some more talent is not an easy thing to do unless the chsaa “a” is down and they play a very weak non-league schedule.
COACH DARLOS – IS THE RUMOR TRUE THAT THE MVENON RAZORBACKS WILL NOW BE CALLED THE MVERNON/WESTCHESTER JR. GAELS?
Coach darlos,
How about an iona-bosco football scrimmage
Hoopla15,
Thanks for proving my points Vigg
DPB81,
Leave it alone. Iona won’t scrimmage. Besides your team is on another level. Good for your school. Not knocking Iona. Great team and great program just not on a national level like Bosco.
IonaPower,
Looks like Iona’s path next year to the Feds just got little easier. The Harris’ brothers from Lutheran are transferring back to Half Hallows Hills. Apparently they got into an altercation with the Lutheran coach at Glens Falls this weekend.
is that really true about the harris brothers – wow? i wonder if iona power & hoopla15 pissed their pants when they read that.
Torrell Harris, Tobias’s father, was yelling at the team to pass it to the ‘money man.’ He was down on the floor. The LIL coach went crazy, screamed at Torrell, ‘get out of here’. The day before, Torrell was complaining about the coach so it would not surprise me if he went back. There were college coaches there like Syracuse who are recruiting Harris and saw the altercation.

Iona needs to win the CHSAA A Championship next year before I worry about Long Island Lutheran.

A kid that has your saying is going to a D-2 D-3 college Pope who with the talent he had since freshman year is not going D-1 that is terrible! The baseball program is great at Iona but where does Vic send his players after high school? ... Look at a kid like Jimmy Robertson Nick Costa Ryan Jenkins Erik Mitchell Mike Kowious what happen to all of these kids these kids are defintley D-1. Come on IONA even ASSISTANT COACHES want all the GLORY NOW! .. Send your kids to D-1 colleges and be more worried about that!

We are learning MVHS Football Wing offense. Jr. Knights.
i am not surprised that the harris boys are leaving lutheran and going back to their local public school. i watched first hand how their father acted like a complete nut case at the pioneer tournament in poughkeepsie, when at full strength, lutheran lost to bishop mcginn. the father should have been escorted from the gym for screaming in ear shot of the poyghkeepsie police officers. tobias sr. was screaming at players on lutheran to pass the ball to his son and to stop shooting themselves?. very pathetic display of low class parenting and now i hear it happened again in glens falls.
iona prep would have beaten lutheran if they did not play so poorly against jamesville dewitt. jd played poorly against batavia and played very well against peekskill amd iona, then played terribly against lutheran.
as far as the final local rankings. this is the way i see them:
1- peekskill
2- iona
3- mount vernon
I AGREE WITH YOU SECT 1 REGARDING THAT DRAGON CHARACTER! BUT WHEN C’MON NOW SAYS A COACH IS A BLOGGER…THAT IS WHAT I MEANT BY SHOUTING SOMEONE OUT! IT IS WRONG AND UNFAIR TO FALSELY NAME SOMEONE! FURTHERMORE, I AM TIRED OF PEOPLE SAYING THAT IONA HAD SO MUCH TALENT THAT IS WHY THEY WON! GIVE VIC THE CREDIT HE DESERVES CAUSE WHEN IONA WAS ONE FOUL SHOT AWAY FROM UPSETTING FORD THE 1 SEED AT FORD TWO YEARS AGO IN THE PLAYOFFS WAS IT BECAUSE THEY WERE SOO TALENTED?

I would love to see a DonBosco- Iona Scrimmage. But I will enjoy the Bergen Catholic Game.
Coach Darlos
Who are some of the young players from the Razorbacks that people should pay attention too? Where are most of the incoming 9th graders from the Razorbacks going to go to HS?
ionapower:
the majority of the good kids are going to iona – and are paying full tuition – imagine that!
I have it on very good authority that the Harris brothers are transferring to Iona Prep. Dad has moved his business to Westchester. They have applied as of yesterday.

FYI
If you think the majority of the MV kids are paying their own tuition at Iona. I have a bridge to sell you. LOL Oh and by the way,, Iona prep does not recruit. wink, wink.
Iona Fannn,
Are you serious? Tobias wouldn’t be eligible to play next year if that was true. I would be shocked to see the CHSAA bend their rules to allow a McD’s All-American caliber player to get into the league and play right away. I read Jayden commenting that the Harris brothers were leaving Lutheran – what a horrible move. Apparently, the father didn’t like that his son wasn’t getting enough touches. Lutheran just won the A Federation title and Tobias had 27 in the win. Since when is 27 points and a Federation title not good enough. Hopefully, this info is wrong.
sounds like an april fools! i can see tobias landing at an oak hill or st. benedit’s.
Torrell Harris said he’s sending his kids to Iona due to the ast. coach!!! He heard he was the top HS ast coach in America and is the basketball mastermind behind Iona’s recent success. Also, was really impressed with his “passion” for the game and loved the fact he got T’d up in the Feds: “That’s my kind of guy! Talkin smack during a big time game, I love it! I want my kids to play for that guy!”.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................BBALLFANATIC- the WHAAAAAmbulance is already on the way!!!
rumor has it the tobias brothers are going to hackley
I also heard that Iona Prep is building a 8500 seat basketball facility plus they have evicted all the homeowners along Wilmot Road and will be buildng a 25,000 seat football stadium. They will be bringing in Stu Vetter from Montrose Christian to run the Basketball program plus they will bring in George Smith from St. Thomas Aquinas to run the football program.
YES!!!! IonaPower has crossed over to the dark side and made some jokes about Iona!!! Man, iona and iona fann are gonna be pissed at you!!! Oh, and don’t forget Coach Darlos will not be thrilled to hear you didnt mention him to run the football program!!! Hoopla15/BBALLFANATIC just bashed his computer for not giving him the basketball job!!
Relax everyone, JUST KIDDING!!!
IonaPower – I always knew you had it in you. Never took you for the type of fan I have previously bashed. You always seem to defend your school in the right way and can always take a joke. I welcome you to the dark side!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA JK

Being that the Razorback only went to the pee wee level last year(7-12) Our kids are alittle young right now.
But this year we have 4 teams playing spring footbal from age of 8-15 – to 9th grade. We should be able to produce some great talent in the very near future. My team the 15u no weight limit team has about 90% of the kids with no playing experiance, so I have alot of work to do. I will put the spring game on our website. Practice will be very serious. Games will be more teaching. I one kid that is 6’2” 248 OT, I need see if he his tough.lol If his you hear about him. And he is a great student.
The Razorbacks have some really good coaching staffs.
My Running Back coach played in Texas for High School and Played college Football.
I am currently offering DB, qb, wr drills on Sundays – I have currently 10 kids working with us on Sundays from different high schools in the area. Email me if your kids is serious about getting better. 15 and up. Next week we may travel to Staten Island to play 7 on 7 against the Staten Island All Stars.
Go Westchester Football.
Hey i think we should start a poll. Who is the best Iona Prep Assistant Basketball Coach! I bet we no who Hoopla15 is voting for!
Manning..
Coach Darlos,
Seems like your doing great things over in MV. What kids are you working out and from which schools?
coach Manning
I’d rather not say what schools they are from,
Well i guess since Coach Vigg got the Memphis job that makes sense to vote for coach manning!
Plus why would Coach Vigg vote for himself no1 votes for them self so it makes perfect sense! Good Call C’Mon Now
I WILL BE THERE SUNDAY – AND WE WILL REALLY
SEE WHO’S TOUGH!
I WILL TACKLE ANYONE WHO GETS IN MY WAY…
Vigg got the Memphis job?!?!?
Good for him!!! Must’ve been his mastering of the dribble drive offense. It all makes sense now.
Guess those references of Coach Vic, Coach Fraher and Coach Cimmino go a long way!!!!!!
Iona is goona suffer big time next year without superior basketball coaching skills
Coach Darlos
Relax buddy i will put the pads on any day and run you over!!!
Stick to coaching!
Coach Darlos is a Beast
I am not tackling anybody, lol and neither are you. we dont any tackling on Sundays
You stillwearyellow
I didnt write that, but you wouldnt run me over, lol
On Sundays at 11am at Memorial there is a adult flag league that has some classic players playing, Ryan Jenkins is playing wr for the Greenburgh team. Rasul Saladeen (90’s basketball star) is playing for the MV team.
Coach Darlos
Great Job you are doing with the young kids. And by the way I hope you direct them all to Iona!!!!!!!
Tobias Harris is not going to Iona after all. It was the dribble drive offense which can make mortals out of anyone that sent him away!
Coach Darlos,
I applaud you for all the work you put into these kids. Keep up the good work! Just remember if all of the good players from the Razorbacks end up at Iona many of them won’t have a chance to shine. Stepinac and Mount have excellent track records helping kids get into college programs.
ionapower – he already does direct them all to iona prep – hence why mount and mvernon are hurting!
Ballfan…
If you think Coach Darlos is why Mt vernon and Mount are hurting in football your %^$@... basically I find it crazy that Mt Vernon and Mount think they own the rights to these kids becuase of where they live.
Coach Darlos has offered his help to kids regardless of location and school affliation. How many other guys do you know doing that? Every kid Darlos coaches doesn’t go to Iona Prep… and he doesnt refuse to help those who choose to go elsewhere..
First lets think about this how many youth coaches have sons who are not playing in the program? Not many.. yet Coach Darlos spends his weeknights, weekends, summers and falls coaching other peoples kids… and then if by chance they go to Iona Prep he should be condemned? ppl really need to grow up…
How much help is Mt V HS or Mt St Michael offering the Razorbacks… when is the last time Mt V HS won a chip? Who wants to catch the ball more in practice than in the game? Is it Darlos’ fault that Mount lost to Cardinal Hayes in the Turkey Bowl this year? Cardinal Hayes is an CHSFL A program!!!!
Sorry I just had to defend Coach Darlos because ppl are getting carried away…
what do you think…
how about those Stepinac Crusaders…. I predict that they will be very special in the next 4 years… EXPECT THEM TO AT LEAST BE IN THE SEMIFINALS in basketball for the next 4 years… EASY…
The strength of their lower levels are incredible…
Likewise Iona will dominate in Football… their offense is just so appealing.. and they are working hard over there..
How many kids do you think were impressed by watching Iona on MSG this year? How many parents do you think will be more impressed when Iona plays Bergen Catholic.. win or lose.. kids and parents want exposure…
Mt St Michael will be back strong soon… but maybe they should jump into the year 2000 and get a website for their sports program!!! Wait that must be Coach Darlos’ fault…lol
what do you think? what does the future hold for Stepinac, Mount, and Iona…

That statement “Just remember if all of the good players from the Razorbacks end up at Iona many of them won’t have a chance to shine” is one of the more pathetic comments that I have heard. Iona Football is coming off a CHSFL AAA championship. They were ranked in the ESPN and MSG top 10 in the East Coast. You cannot even put Stepinac and Iona in the same sentence when it comes to football. Iona is ranked #1 in the preseason power rankings while Stepinac is not even in the top 10. Iona in the last 25 years has beaten Stepinac at least 22 times. So how on earth can you say that prospective players will not flourish at Iona. I guess Tyrae Woodson, Jeffrey Mack and Darlos James to name a few have not done well at Iona.
crusader watch:
i agree…mount / mvernon have no rights to any kid but they do think that way. the kid belongs to their parents/family and that’s that.
iona and stepinac just work harder at what they do.
rumor is that iona incoming frehmen football class is very good and stepinac incoming freshmen basketball class is very good – watch out!
much respect to coach darlos – great to have that type of mentor with the youth today – not many of those type of guys around!
thanks for the compliments , Our communities are being eaten away by people who really don’t care about the community. To much me me me in the world.
on another notes, It would be great if all Westchester team get the respect that New Jerey teams get. Hudson Catholic (of New Jersey) gets blown out be St. joe by the sea and Hudson Catholic sends 5 kids Iaa and Iaa to pitt and rhode island, maine etc. This bothers me. what do you guys think?
IonaPower,
I think you read way too far into my comment and didn’t read it reasonably. On the surface its a very simple, straightforward comment that would be hard to disagree with. Nowhere did I compare Stepinac’s football team with Iona’s – did I? Iona has been two TD’s better than Stepiac each of the last two years in front of huge crowds in some exciting games. You’ve never read one word from me disparaging Iona’s football (or basketball) team.
What I DID say was that “if all of the good players from the Razorbacks end up at Iona many of them won’t have a chance to shine.” That makes perfect sense to me. If Iona has 4 or 5 outstanding RB’s only two, maybe three at most will have to chance to get any significant carries. If Iona has three outstanding QB’s, only one, maybe two will get any significant snaps. I’ve listened to you and several other Iona fans rattle off the names of several 8th grade football players who are headed to Iona – I’d be careful using a word like “pathetic” because I think talking about 8th graders by name on a blog is bordering on just that.
For the record, I love watching Iona play football. I think their offense is great, their coaches are obviously very good and they clearly have some great players. My comment to Coach Darlos wasn’t even meant that seriously and it was only in response to a few people saying that all of the talented Razorbacks were heading to Iona. I will be rooting hard for Iona against Bergen Catholic – I may even head out to the Meadowlands.
Hoopfan
Please understand
The Rzbacks dont have 4 good running backs on any one team, so 4 or 5 RBS wont be going to any one school. The RB at Iona didnt play for the Razorbacks and I noticed that he was a good RB , we played against his youth team. The best RB’s MV had didnt go to Iona, they went to other schools. And the RB that was at Stepinac didnt play rb and shouldnt be playing rb in college, he should be playing lb or FS. Then he would be at D1 getting ready for the league. Success of some RB’s in the area has hurt some of these kids thinking they can be them. Same with Basketball-some peoples success is another kids dream and nightmare. It causes them to play out position and the parents dont give them good advice. Then they end up DII or DIII, which there is nothing wrong with that, you still going to college. But why go DII when you can go DI?
Rzorbacks have more then just RB’s, This year I have some stud LB’s and Lineman. There are more positions on the field then just qb and RB, those are just the
“so called “glory positions-but many college scholarships are given to other positions also.
And for the people mad about where a kid goes to school. A certain coach in MV use to send kids to a school in the Bronx, for years, probably sent the best player ever in MV to the bronx, So why he mad now? As long as a kid is successful who cares. And the best youth football players, are still in MVHS, they just dont play football.
See youll sunday at 4pm, kids from all high schools.

I have never rattled off specific names of 8th graders going to any high school. – All I have said was that I have heard specific schools have good classes coming into their schools. This information was obtained after speaking with people internally involved with their specific programs. This also included Stepinac basketball.
For the record I do not know the name of even 1 student athlete in the 8th grade attending any area high high school.

College scholarships are not always given on “shining” numbers. My son didnt have great numbers on offense this year. But school still look at him as a WR. Even Maine may play him at WR.
he had, I think 25 receptions, 300 yards. You dont have to shine as much as you think to get noticed. Most of the kids all in the headlines, did not get scholarships. So who are you shining for?
come check some spring football at memorial field this spring
Coach Darlos,
Thanks for the info. My initial comment wasn’t even meant to be particularly seriuos, because I doubt any local youth team has 4 or 5 future excellent HS rbs. I also didn’t say anything about shining numbers. I agree you don’t need great statistics to attract college football coaches, but you do need to see the field. My point was that if you don’t get a lot of playing time, its hard to “shine” or attract college attention. I’m not saying that this has been a problem for kids at Iona before, but some of what I’m reading on this blog from Iona fans (not you) has every talented 8th grade football player heading to Iona – that would create a logjam of players.
IonaPower,
I must’ve mistakenly thought it was you naming some names of 8th graders on the blog. If I was wrong, I apologize. I’m sure I’m not the only person who read that to think its a little overboard. Iona was 13-0 last year and is looking like another 12 or 13 win season is in the cards this year, you don’t have to be so sensitive about Iona’s football program. By the way, you mentioned Stepinac and Iona’s football programs not even being on the same level. I actually think Stepinac’s football program has picked it up considerably the last 3 years. I think Stepinac is now where Iona was before this incredible class of juniors arrived to their football team. Stepinac was 7-6 last year in the AAA – just about where Iona had usually finished in years past. It just so happens Iona had maybe their best year of football ever. It will be interesting to see where each program is in 2010.
Stepinac is improving steadily. I have a good feeling about the Stepinac program in the short term future. I’d say they will be competing for some championships in the next 4-5 years…
Stepinac basketball is very strong and I think Iona has one more year and then they will need to rebuild..
And by the way let me clear some things up…
If I am considering what HS to go to I begin looking in 7th grade especially if I play basketball… so now lets look at the 2004-5 season The year Iona’s junior class was in 7th grade…
Iona Prep went 7-3 in Football beating both Stepinac and Mount…
Their basketball team went 13-13 sweeping Stepinac… Stepinac’s team went 7-18!
So now I think its easier to see why these kids made their decisions. As they watched that 04-05 season Iona was more attractive. IN October of 05 they had to pick thier 3 schools and list them on the TACHS exam… they didnt have the 05-06 basketball season results yet.. Once a kid makes a decision and falls in love with a school there isnt much that will change his mind… But now the kid is accepted into Iona and Stepinac with the 05-06 B-Ball season ahead of him.. Iona again goes 13-14 this time making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs.. Stepinac goes 15-11 and loses in the 2nd round of the playoffs as well (sweeps Iona that season).
So now lets see.. Stepinac had a slightly better record that year but over the last 2 years that the kid has been watching stepinac is 22-29 while Iona is 26-27… they’ve both made the playoffs and swept each other.. Back to Football Iona again beats both Mount and Stepinac in football and goes 8-3… So now the kid already fell in love with Iona based off the year before and Stepinac hasn’t done anything super that changes his mind… and Iona is basically as good as they were the year before in BOTH SPORTS.. so the kid goes to IONA…. and thats how the junior class choose Iona over Stepinac…
what do you think???
Oh and I’m willing to bet that Stepinac is reaping the benefits with this incoming freshman class based of the Championship they won 2 years ago when those kids were 7th graders… and the same will ring true for the incoming 2010 freshman who will flock to Iona because of the championships won this year..
Crusader watch:
You make some solid points. Here are some other aspects to keep in mind when the 7th / 8th greade child & parent are deciding on a high school.
1. $$$ Tuition – some schools
(and i am not going to get specific b/c then all hell will break loose) have much more money to give out in athletic/student scholarships then other schools – that’s a fact and i will not even respond if someone disagrees!!!
2.) Certain aau coaches have better or different relationships with the high school coach’s regarding what school they think is a better fit – not a better program but a better fit!
3.) Certain 7th / 8th graders might have friends or family memebers that attend the high school that they want to attend…regardless of how the football or basketball teams did that year or the year before.
4.) What is the track record of kids leaving the respective high school and playing at the next level in college? Wether it is division 1, 2, or 3.
5.) Is the high school program active 12 months or just the 4 month regular season?
Just some additional points!
Crusader Watch and ?,
You both make good points. Crusader watch, I disagree with you on two points 1) that kids are making up their minds about a high school during 7th grade – I’d say it happens in 8th grade, if it hasn’t already been chosen years before (family, friend connections). 2) The season you’re talking about that this current class of juniors at Iona was in 8th grade, Stepinac had Melquan Bolding, which was about as exciting as can get in local basketball. Melquan had his plusses and minuses as a basketball player in HS, but he couldn’t have been much more exciting. He’s also had a fantastic freshman year at Duquesne for what its worth and they also made it into the tournament. What excites me is that Stepinac, Iona and Mount are all very good in football, basketball and baseball for the first time in a long time. All three have strong traditions in each sport, but rarely have all three been good in all three sports at the same time. Next year Iona is going to be nearly unbeatable in basketball and football, but it looks like the following year will be a dogfight in all three sports. Fordham has even been very strong in football and baseball. Their JV basketball team was also very good I hear with a couple sophomores on the varsity as well.
Hoops fan
You are correct in saying that Iona Prep, Stepinac and Mount are both maintaining strong programs. You can also not overlook the fact that these schools are playing at the highest levels of competition. Unfortunately this has increased tensions among the coaches. The Mount football coaches HATE the Iona coaches with a passion. The Mount basketball coach carries a grudge toward Stepinac. Believe it or not I do not see a lot of animosity between the coaches at Stepinac and Iona Prep.
My judgement for the immediate future is promising for both Iona and Stepinac. From a football standpoint Iona has deep and talented classes in this years Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Class. Iona had 5 sophomores who played vital roles with their championship team. The freshman class was alos very good with two kids doing very well on the JV level. They also have two transfers coming in that will be sophomores. From what I heard they have a very good incoming class. Stepinac last year had some good young kids playing on the JV level who were freshman. They also brought up some sophomores who are very good along with their freshman running back. Stepinac being in the CHSFL AAA will test their depth but they also will have the benefit of being a lower seed which should avoid some of the league powers like St. Anthony, St. Joesph etc. Their schedule will be much easier than Iona. Iona being the top seed will have a NASTY league schedule.
Basketball wise Stepinac will be tough. They have a very aggressive coach who gets out and sells his program. He is very good at knowing who the grade school players are and is much more on the ball than Iona in that respect. Iona had to not admit some potential basketball kids because of grades. Mount being in the Bronx will always get talented kids in basketball. Fordham Prep will be a factor during the next two years. Next year Iona is probably the favorite with Stepinac and Mount breathing down their neck. In two years Stepinac has a good chance to reach the finals with Hayes, Fordham and Nazareth being in the mix. Nazareth hires an AAU coach who brought in a top class. One coach that I know in the CHSAA (NOT IONA) told me that he expects a few of those Nazareth kids to eventually leave. Iona in two years will look at a 14-11 type of season.
In the end High School Sports can be unpredictable.
IonaPower,
Excellent accessment. you’re definitely right that high school sports and athletes can be unpredictable. You mentioned how it seems Iona and Stepinac’s coaches don’t seem to have any animosity – thats great to hear. I’m not as tuned into these programs as you are, but I think a major reason for that could be that Iona’s football and basketball coach happens to be a Stepinac grad who played both sports for very good Stepinac teams.
Iona’s football program sounds loaded for years to come. Its good to hear Stepinac’s football team had a few freshman on their JV in addition to the freshman running back on Varsity. Goodman the QB also looked good on the varsity as a sophomore. You’re very right that Stepinac’s lighter schedule will help them next year compared to Iona’s great schedule. Iona still has a good chance to go undefeated again – I think they will.
Hoops fan
I was very impressed with the Stepinac Freshman RB. He will be their main option with Easterling no longer with the program. He reminds me of a young Eric Ogbogu. The QB Goodman has a lot of athletic ability. The key for Stepinac will be replacing several big linemen that graduated. Last year Stepinac had some big and physical lines that gave them a chance to compete like they did against St. Joseph by the Sea, Farrell, and Chaminade. As you know teams that are seeded even at 6-9 in the CHSFL AAA are very tough teams to play against so Stepinac will have some tough games.
Iona Prep I believe has a good chance to repeat as CHSFL AAA champs but the road will be hard. It is so hard to repeat at any level and the schedule is going to be rough. I was told that they will automatically face the top 5 seeded teams as league games. I would be very surprised if they went undefeated. They are also the underdog against Bergen Catholic. History shows that NY and CT teams do not fare well against the NJ Catholics. St. Anthony lost to both Don Bosco and St. Joseph in home and homes games. St. Joseph also easily beat Greenwich last year and they also manhandled Xaverian and Newburgh in recent years. I can only think of St. Anthony beating Delbarton and St. Joseph by the Sea beating Hudson Catholic as the only NY teams having some success against NJ Catholics. I am very concerned about Iona facing Bergen Catholic because in my mind Bergen Catholic in a bad year for them would still be a good CHSFL AAA team.

Any truth to the rumors Iona is requesting a bailout for their $300,000 in basketball scholarships?
Only if stepinac gives back some of their sponsorship money!!!
hoopla15 is getting the xavier job – not the high school- the university. sean miller has accepted the arizona job.

Listen, I told you I am not coach vigg nor do I even coach. I am an attorney and if you would like to meet me to see for yourself just let me know. This way we can dispel any ambiguity as to who I am. You are becoming tiresome and childish with your baseless and erroneous accusations.
Erroneous!!!! Erroneous on all accounts!!!!
Hoopla15,
Not to keep on knockin you BUT…..NO ONE MENTIONED COACH VIGG GETTING THE XAVIER JOB!!!!! They mentioned “hoopla15.” No need to get your panties in a bunch unless you really are Coach Vigg!!!!!!!!!
Gotcha again buddy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is getting easier and easier and a hell of a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I have to I will expose the true identity behind C’MON NOW.. It will not be difficult at all.
Do not play me for a fool! You have made it abundantly clear who you falsely believe is HOOPLA15. If you would like to continue with your semantics, just remember this is a two way street
Their is a condition at the bottom of this blog page that leaves alot of subjectivity as to what can be construed as indecent information! Basically, it means you are not completely safe from anonymity on this site if you do not conform to the rules
Oh relax Mr. Attorney!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your taking the Terms of Service way to far. Get off your high horse and relax. YOU my friend are not completely safe from anonymity on this site too buddy!!! Didn’t know that you were Kevin Devaney and own/operated this blog. Mr. Attorney I believe its called my 1st Amendment right to post what I feel. I can’t make claims, not so much as claims but more of a joke(which you obviously can’t take), about you but tons of other people on this blog can make claims about kids’ ages and academic standings, coaches ethics and finiancial operations of schools and families? Get a life pal. If you can’t take the heat then stay outta the kitchen, or in case blog.!!! Maybe they should add to the Terms of Service that “Hoopla15 is untouchable and off limits, so do not make a joke or disagree with him or else.” Many other people on this blog have been attacked, questioned and mocked and I do not see them over-reacting.
“Can’t we all just get along?????”
LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, you can post what you feel. However, when it borders on indecent information that can be possibly construed as libel or defamatory you lose your right
That is why the condition is clearly stated before you blog.. FYI: Kevin does not own the blog it is property of the journal news
Lastly, if you would like me to mention your true identity on here than keep making false inferences. I would rather just continue to enjoy blogging without stooping to your level. It’s your call..
dude stop with the smiley faces.
The identity of C’MON NOW has been confirmed! But do not worry I will not expose you because unlike you I am not a hater or a jealous person. You know who you are! You need to get a life instead of taking shots at coaches!!
Well I’m glad I’ve been on your mind =)
And um no pal, YOU need to get a life instead of coming on a damn blog and pump up asst. coaches. You wanna act like a fool you will be treated like a fool!!! Just staying consistent a calling out all who act like fools. Check some of my past comments. But you won’t cause I hurt your feelings and you can’t take it. Boo-freakin-hoo!!! Just remember I know the grand secret of all about you! Maybe, If you tried coaching instead of being a disgruntled parent who revels in peoples failures you would not be so quick to judge! I would say your name but its not worth it… Fool!!
Oh btw, Your just jealous because Iona ia a great school with a top notch sports program. Not to mention very good coaches and among all the best in coach Vic! No other coach in ny state history has one a state title in football and basketball! He should be tri state coach of the year! Hands down!!! More importantly, he is a better person..
Oh is that the same Coach Vic who The Fool (you) tried to take all the credit for? The same Coach Vic that needed you to put in the dribble-drive motion offense? The same Coach Vic who has the best asst coach in the metro area? The same Coach Vic who you are doing a dis-service to by coming on here and making his ast coach (aka you) out to be the great Grand Puba of HS basketball?
Think it about it Christopher? YOU ARE THE FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enough of this BS, you should be ashamed of your actions. I don’t know who’s more outta their mind: YOU or The Crazy Dragon From Switzerland?
BTW – YOU STILL HAVEN’T PICKED A TIME OR PLACE?
P.S. I HATE TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE, BUT I’M NOT THAT GUY!!! I KNOW YOU HE IS THOUGH!!!!!
Read the blogs moron, hoopla15 never knocked vic. Ever!!! The first blog started when the dribble drive was knocked! Hoopla15 defended it and made people aware it was an assistant’s suggestion. Just stating the facts! Furthermore, it was clearly stated by hoopla15 that Vic deserves coach of the year!way before today! and if you must know hoopla15 never proclaimed Vigg as the best asst coach in metro area! This is becoming ridiculous…
If you would like let’s play this one on one and settle this once and for all!lol
Yes, I would love to. As I said before, you pick the time and the place. You said it was my call and it was my call to play 1-on-1. Now it’s your call on the time and place…..Saunders or Iona? LOL
Speaking in 3rd person is rather arrogant.
