Class B final: Lincoln Hall vs. Pleasantville

February
28

FINAL SCORE: Lincoln Hall wins the Class B championship 41-39. Pleasantville led by seven with five minutes before getting outscored 12-3 to end the game. Tysean Saigo (17 points) put back the game-winning shot with 1.9 seconds left.

The postgame celebration was as wild as it gets. The 200 or so fans from Lincoln Hall were rocking in the upper deck, tossing white t-shirts in the air. A few (which was dumb) decided to jump off the upper deck and rush the court.

Pleasantville had beaten Lincoln Hall three times in the regular season.

What an incredible game. Amazingly Lincoln Hall beat Pleasantville in its own game.

6:33: LincolnHall wins 41-39.

6:31: Another timeout

6:29 p.m: Tysean Saigo put back a miss for Lincoln Hall to give the United a 41-39 lead with 1.9 seconds left. Pleasantville ball inbounding under its own basket.

  1. wow

Aren’t there seats dirctly underneath the upper deck? Those kids most be out of there minds to jump from up there.

  2. emont

they jumped into the aisle, what a game, that was unreal, i dont think i have ever heard the county center that loud all week.

  3. BB

That was a great game and a great atmosphere. Both team’s fans were loud and were very into the game. Great comeback by Lincoln Hall who definately deserved it. Congrats to Taylor Saigo and the rest of the United (clap, clap clap clap)

  4. shoot

You would think that a team like pville would know how to hold onto a 7 point lead with 5 minutes left in the game?
The dean smith “four corners” must have back fired in pleasantville’s face today.

  5. LH fan

What a thrilling game! Go United!

  6. cheap

Sir allen taylor- 21 years old
    Siago- 19

    enough said

  7. LH fan

Sir Aaron is 17 years old actually and Saigo is either 16 or 17.

  8. Tough One

Great game. It was a game of spurts and LH had the spurt at the end. Tough way for Pville to lose. THey controlled the 2nd half and let that one slip away. I think they should have fouled since they had two to give inside 10 seconds. They could have put LH with the ball taking it out with under 5 seconds. Maybe LH rushes the shot. I do think refs played a pretty big part. They all seemed to have left the whistle at home. LH is a very aggressive team offensively and defensively, pressed most of the game, and drove to the hoop a a lot. But with all that they only committed 2 fouls the entire 2nd half. I think only 5 for the game. Will watch that game again to see if the injustice was as big as I thought. To be fair Pville was only called for 4 fouls in the 2nd half. LH seem to have a great bunch of kids that really work hard. I wish them well in the States. Do Section 1 proud.

  9. Pete

I couldn’t make the game but it seems to have been a really exciting game that either team could have won. What happened at the end? I understood Pleasantville was the favorite as they had beaten Lincoln Hall three times during the year. I was surprised they lost.

  10. cheap

so ya dont no how old they really are ayyy…. i could honostly tell ya the age of evry pleasantvile player

  11. cheap

and saigo is a 17 year old sophmore… so the time hes a senior he will beeeeee….... what 20

  12. LH fan

I don’t know why I should even dignify cheap’s response with an answer (obviously a very bitter person), however like I said I am not sure of Saigo’s age, he is one of the 250 students at LH, impossible to remember everyones age. Obviously the LH kids from not the best backgrounds which can easily translate to not having your age correspond with the expected grade level! Bottom line every single player’s age on the LH team is under 18.

  13. joe b

As long as they are not 19 before the season starts they can play. NY State Rule.

  14. joe b

Cheap!!! or is it stupid ? A 17 year old sophmore would be a 19 year old senior. Check your math.

  15. raider

A better question would be what crimes landed them in Lincoln Hall. are their players allowed to leave the county?

  16. Falcons

Ok all the sore losers on here really need to stop. Lincoln Hall beat you guys and they deserved to win. I know there has been question of the age of Taylor and I heard he may even have one more year of eligibility. I doubt this is true but its just a rumor I’ve heard floated out there. Also, what is the rule for how long a player from LH is eligible to play. I thought you were only allowed to play 3 years and they had no seniors but Taylor is listed as a senior in the program. Can someone please clarify for me. Thanks.

  17. Falcons

And 19 is still to old to be a senior in high school. Just throwing that out there.

  18. bball

actually if he 17 now he might be 20 by the time hes a senior depending on his birthday.

  19. joey

i heard lincoln hall is an 18 month program but taylors been there for 3 years

  20. blah

if your 19 your can still play high school sports, and if your a 17 year old sophomore then it makes you a 19 year old senior and there is no garuntee saigo will be there until he is a senior.
second sir aaron taylor played either 16 or 17 under aau this summer, not sure about the year but i know he did so that means he would be of age, stop being bitter and except the loss and give credit where it is due
you sound a lot like briarcliff with all the wining

  21. peekfatdaddy

At least my good friend Hank Taylor didn’t run up the score, then they would have tried to have him fired. He’s a Peekskill guy too, so he must be a lowlife according to this blog. I thought that our country was moving away from all this racist crap, but obviously not when you beat a more affluent school.

  22. joe b

bball. I can tell you are Harvard material.

  23. LH fan

How sad it is that people get this upset over HS basketball that one attack’s the integrity of the other team over extending their hand and congratulating them. Nice sportsmanship to model for all of the students, sheesh!

    Some clarification:

Students at LH are placed through the family court system for a specified period of time from various areas of NY. Students may also petition the court to extend their placement for just reasons.

  24. BasketballJones

CLASS: North Salem coach Henry Sassone applauding every Valhalla player as they received their awards.

Pleasantville coach Bob Delle Bovi shaking hands with every Lincoln Hall player after the tough loss

Albertus girls coach Joe McGuinness taking out his starters at the start of the 4th quarter vs. Brewster

NO CLASS: Peekskill coach Panzanaro running up the score on Pearl River with his two studs on the floor until 4 minutes left.

What will be his excuse tonight??

  25. P'ville Fan

Congratulations to the Lincoln Hall United, you guys played a great game. There was a time where being down the entire game you could have tanked the game, however your coaches did an outstanding job in coaching to the situation. Although it was a great opportunity I thought Pleasantville took its final shot with too much time left on the clock. At worst you should go into overtime.

To those that are more concerned about age, you wouldn’t be saying “we beat older players” if you won. Represent your program with the same class that the players and coaches did.

Lastly, Panthers work hard, you had a taste, next year is another opportunity.

  26. PATRIOT REIN

I HAD THE OPTURNITY TO COACH ON THE NORTH ALLSTAR SENIOR FOOTBALL GAME . I SPENT SOME TIME WITH SIR AARON TAYLOR , HE IS A GREAT KID , AND I HOPE SOMEONE GIVES HIM THE OPTURNITY TO PLAY AT THE NEXT LEVEL . WE NEED TO BE MORE POSITIVE WITH THESE KIDS

  27. joe b

    Well said P’ville Fan

  28. Hoops fan

    P’ville Fan,
Very well said. Pleasantville is an excellent team year in year out and they should be very proud of their season.

    cheap,
borrow some class from P’ville Fan – you need some. You obviously have no idea how old these kids really are, so just keep your ignorant comments to yourself.

  29. Class B

honestly if you are complaining about Lincoln Hall’s age, you should be ashamed. They haven’t been dealt the best cards and deserve this championship more than anyone. I was at the game and the celebration I saw was priceless

  30. Bball Fan

There are many people reading these blogs that feel the comments about age and background are totally inappropriate. It needs to stop immediately. Those of you are who are fortunate enough to come from a stable background should be thankful and give credit to Lincoln Hall players for overcoming their challenges. Winning tonights game shows the character and confidence these kids have. Hopefully, this win helps them realize that they can accomplish anything they put their minds to. Great Job Lincoln Hall. There were two good teams on the floor. I’m glad it was Lincoln Hall. Pleasantville had its’ chance.

  31. Tough One

I still think Pville let this one slip away but if there is one team in Class B that I would want to lose to it would be LH. This kids played hard all game, didn’t complain to ref’s(well they were only called for 2 fouls) and the coaches for LH do such a great job. They are intense , you can see them get in their face and really lean into their kids. But as that kid walks away it is always followed with a pat on the head or a lets go smack in the ass. Great to see a little fire from these coaches. Hats off to LH for playing a great game and hanging in there all night. They didn’t let Pville get that lead up to 8-10 pts. They had big stops when they needed. Good luck in the States. Pville has 4 starters back for next yr and that taste should make them extremely hungry.

  32. panthers

congrats both teams on a great game, and lincoln hall on an amazing finish.

next year is pville’s year. the 4 best players were juniors this year, and this experience is gonna make them hungry, they won’t be denied. unless of course they pull an ‘08 briarcliff chokefest.

  33. Clifford Briar

Pleasantville will also be denied next year if they pull an ‘09 Pleasantville chokefest. 7 point lead with 5 minutes to go in a low scoring 40 point game. You have got to be kidding talking about chokefests.

  34. Villord Pleasant

I believe panthers was referring to Briarcliff’s ‘08 season in general rather than the final game… letting egos and individual personalities get in the way of a championship run from the clear-cut, preseason favorite.

Just doing my part to keep the rivalry interesting since it’ll have no competitive substance for at least a year…

  35. Panthers

Football and then B-basketball two sect finals….. Lax is next… Can they make it to 3? Getting to the finals in Lax would be a major surprise but never say never to the Panthers.

  36. dude

    bball fan

no sale. background is not the issue, this is attica prep you are talking about. they are where they are for a reason, just like children’s village. these challenges you refer to are called crime in the rest of the world. as far as age goes, fact is fact so good luck trying to spin that one.

  37. c-ton football

    Basketballjones,

I find it unbelievable that Coach DeleBovi is classy. We played against them and he is a scummy coach. You see he got his son on the all-tourney team. I was watching in astonishment. classy? i dont think so.

  38. hs athletic fan

    c-ton football,

I would ask you to take back your comment or the caretakers of this site strike it…no place here with comments like that….plus your assessment of basketball talent..you are too young and immature to use the internet.

  39. Class b observer

I would hope that the comment from the croton football player is not removed. This is a blog where all opinions should be heard. If the Pleasantville coach used his influence to get his son on the all touranment team , that is a disgrace. Will his influence get comments removed from this blog?

The top 3 players on Pleasantville that I could see in this tournament were, Bramswig, Robinson and Nicolai. Were these guys all tournament also?

  40. CCFan

Behind Bramswig Delle Bovi scored the most at the county center. Robinson and Nicolai each played well first game, but didnt score second game. I personally know these players and Coach Delle Bovi, and bellieve if Bramswig and Delle Bovi got all tournament, then his action is justified, but there is no clear way to choose out of the 3(Robinson, Delle Bovi, and Nicoali) easily without scrutiny, but I know that Coach D wouldn’t unfairly give all tourny to his son.

  41. hs athletic fan

    Class b observer,

Seems like you have an axe to grind with the coach, along with c-ton…just like c-ton…in your anger you miss the point…is it correct to call him “scummy?”

  42. yea

    yea he would

  43. wow

wow croton fans, and others, sinking to a new low… coach delle bovi is the man.as someone who knows him a LOT better than you do, he is NOT the type of person to use his influence like that. you ever think that maybe the tournament committee realized how hard his son played throughout the tournament. and you call coach D scummy? you people are the scummy disgrace of section one and anybody who reads this blog and knows coach D personally should be offended by your blatant and unfounded disrespect. there is no place in high school athletics for such cynicism and you should all be ashamed and embarrassed of yourselves. grow up.

  44. hs athletic fan

and anyway…seems like there should be more discussion about which TEAMS won and lost instead of talk of personal glory….I am sure the Pleasantville players who made all tournament would trade that for the gold ball.

  45. Lil sis

I just wanted to say that last nights game was so intense! Both teams played there hearts out! The panthers had a great season and will be back next year with 4 out of 5 of there starters and good luc LH!

  46. c-ton football

All i have to say is croton football and basketball are gonna be dominant next year

  47. c-ton football

i was at both county center games and #23 (idk his name) is the reason why they advanced to the championship but he didn’t get recognizzed

  48. wow

Is there a video of the post game celebration for Lincoln Hall, really want to see it.

  49. not too mention

I thought the point of the game was to win the golden ball, do not remember what relevance all tourney team has? Team players play to win the game for the team and ultimate goal, these other accolades pollute the mind of ones that have the wrong the goal, Some things never change what happened to the team concept now a days, too many PARENTS and players are only concerned about ME ME ME, that’s is what costs teams the golden ball…

  50. Pville Fan

    Panthers,

The reason the football and basketball teams each reached the Sectional Finals is because they worked hard, not because they announced it on this blog. So put your keyboard away and grab your long stick and get to work.

    c-ton Football,

Coach Delle Bovi does not have any say on who is on the Tournament team. That is and has been done by the officials at the table. The kid fully deserved to be on that team, coaches son or not. It is a shame that this nonsense is talked about, remember were talking about kids. #23, did an outstanding job in getting the Panthers to the Championship game. However, the last impression is what the people making the decision remembered.

  51. pville fan

not to mention….thank you…you are so right. I know that any of the AllTournament winners of all of the runner up teams would trade it for a Gold Ball in a minute. It is wonderful to be recognized as a good player, but in the end, winning the championship is what is or should be each players goal.
Pleasantville had a great season, and should be so proud of how far they got and how well they played last night…..Lincoln Hall congrats and good luck!!!

  52. pville mad

Pville is just bitter that Briarcliff has always owned them and they lost their only chance to compare to Briarcliff. Joe Lombardi is the best player to come out of class B in years.

  53. Pville Fan

    pville mad

What a ridiculous statement. You might want to take a Gold Ball count. Briarcliff 1 ball and 1 choke is that correct? Don’t be so arrogant if you can’t back it up.

  54. jadylady

All I can say is that L.H and Pleastville played a great game. Does it really matter what background they come from that has nothing to do with a great game they played they work just as hard as the next team.Would all these mean comments been made if the other team won? L.H. players always show respect on and off the court, and lets not forget that Coach Taylor has to put together a new team every year so we have to give him credit also.Enought said .

  55. Pville Fan

Well said jadylady. Not all people from Pleasantville are complaining, both teams played great. Hats off to LH and Coach Taylor, good luck in Regionals.

  56. mike

sorry brittian purcelle was the best player in class b. it was also voted by the coaches in his conference last year/p’ville great season, came up a little short. by the way bob della bovi is a class act, and it is true parents and ton’s of players care more about personal goals rather than what there team goals wre. if your team wins and goes to the states, college coaches will see these kids play. win a sectional title, and players will be awarded. it is a team sport and the goal is to win as a team.

  57. 100%UNITED

Both teams played hard but the the better team came out on top. The United work hard just as any other high school player in the country. No matter the background or where they are from everyone deserves a second chance. These boys are showing changes in their lives and those that think they are criminals are complete, ignorant idiots! Go United hope you take it all the way, and again you DESERVE It!
