Week 9 Picks

October
29

We’re inching closer to Championship Weekend in Section 1. First, here’s who I think will get there and how:

Section 1 Playoffs
Class AA
New Rochelle 20, Mahopac 14:
This game could really go in any direction. I’ve touted New Rochelle since the preseason, but it just hasn’t quite had that breakout game yet I’ve been waiting for. Mahopac is coming off an emotional upset of Ramapo. But it’s so hard to win on the road two weeks in a row.
John Jay-EF 14, Carmel 13: Carmel looks rejuvinated since dropping consecutive games, and completely dominated North Rockland last week. My gut tells me to go with the upset here but I just can’t do it. John Jay hasn’t given me a reason to think it will falter, and I don’t see how the Rams will stop Mike Belluzzi.

Class A
Ossining 34, Yorktown 20:
The performance Ossining showed me on Friday was among the best I’ve seen from this team in three years. So efficient and so diverse, the O scored almost at will on Fox Lane. Although Yorktown has improved throughout the year, Ossining won’t be denied a shot at another championship.
Somers 28, Nyack 14: The game will be far closer than the score. I see this one being tight through the fourth quarter before Somers’ depth and physicality allows it to pull away. As good as Nyack’s backs are, there’s too much speed and too many playmakers on this Tuskers defense.

Class B
Rye 31, Nanuet 7:
The Garnets were very concerned about Nanuet’s physical style when they hosted them in Week 2. But this ain’t Week 2. Rye has kicked it up a notch for the playoffs, the way they always do, and aren’t going to get tripped up.
Byram Hills 21, Pleasantville 17: Ugh, this was a tough one to predict. I’ve been hyping Byram Hills as the top contender to Rye for over a month. But actually predicting Pleasantville to lose was tougher than I imagined. I’ll do this based on history. The Panthers have lost at home in the semifinals three straight years. Otherwise, this one is too even to feel confident about.

Class C
Dobbs Ferry 28, Croton-Harmon 13:
Finally, I think we’re going to see the real Dobbs Ferry. Back healthy and motivated, the Eagles are methodically pick apart Croton and advance to the final for the eighth straight year.
Rye Neck 14, Westlake 7: Rarely do the team’s that win these types of meetings win by a bigger score in the rematch. Rye Neck’s 17-0 win over the Wildcats in Week 5 was a pretty thourough beating. Westlake has rebounded well with 107 points in thre games. Still, with the Panthers defense, it might not be enough.

  1. center

a carmel new ro rematch be great for the section title

  2. devils

Kev, i thought haldane was playing magnus this weekend? If not, i believe they do have a game.

  3. NewRo'sDynasty

In my opinion I really dont see the mahopac-new rochelle game being as close as devaney predicted it to be. And heres why: I watched almost all of the mahopac/ramapo game. Mahopac’s only real threat seems to be their half back. They didnt show much of a passing attack, or any other dangerous weapons. New Ros defense has been stellar all year. Their only weak spot has been their secondary which has improved greatly since week one. If New Ro’s offense is clicking right from the start then Mahopac is in some serious trouble. However if New Ro comes out sluggish on offense again, and penalty prone, mahopac has a fair shot to keep the game close and competitive. I see the score New Rochelle 28- Mahopac 7

  4. -Backman

Ive been reading through the posts on these blogs, and is it just me or has this blog been taken over. Its been taken over by guys offering each other these funny sounding italian meals and the writing in this weird italian dialect.

    Average Post on KD’s blog:

Yea why dont you put some casado on your canoli, and then ill take you to izzys and show you some real food. Mama mia the Don arrived at the harrison-nyack game, maybe he will kiss his godson johnny on the forehead and the we’ll all go to D’italia and have some sicily and sardinia. my treat.

  5. Go Black Hats!

Your picks are almost right on, Kevin. Westlake didn’t know what hit them when they played Rye Neck. They were dominated at the line and the backs and tight end looked like they didn’t want to be hit in the second half. They belong in class D. Just my opinion.

That said, I’m with T-Man…Westlake is soft. I think you were too kind with your prediction. But…I understand the position you’re in.

    Lets get ready for Dobbs!!!!

    See you in Syracuse!

  6. 10801

    kevin,

do you know which games will be broadcast live?

  7. zr500

just a question. when will they announce the seniors playing in the section one allstar game ? and where will it be ?

  8. #53

    Greely vs. Sleepy prediction?

  9. billy thomas

maybe it’s me, but i just think it is strange that for once someone is going to nyack by having more speed than them

  10. billy thomas

    to beat*

  11. ConnorNYACK

dont joke, somers doesn’t have close to the speed nyack has

  12. hsfootballfan

I saw Nyack against Harrison and I was not impressed with their speed. Ossining is at a different level.

Somers may not have the team speed but Deianna and Marasco can run with any of them. Somers does however, have much more size and power. Way too much for Nyack to handle. Nyack had trouble moving the ball on the ground against Harrison. Good luck against Somers.

  13. eagle1

I guess you’ve been out scouting them too. You nyack boys are all the same. talking about how much speed other teams don’t have. Dieanna runs a 4.4 and lombardo a 4.3 according to the recruiting web site. Who on nyack runs that?? Get out of the nyack bubble, it’s killing you!!!

  14. Yes

Wrong. Westlake is not soft. They lack confidence. I’ve seen this team play when they have confidence. They are a different team. It all depends which team shows up. Their defense can be soft I agree, arm tackles don’t go very far. The Lincoln Hall game could have been a blowout(Westlakes way) if not for the lack of tackling. With that said, Westlakes offense is not going to win this game. It’s going to be a defensive game as always with Rye Neck. For this reason I agree with 14-7, but in either direction.

If Westlakes coaches have been working on the little things such as tackling correctly they can be very dangerous. Knowing their coaching staff they most likely have. Westlake will be prepared. If they lose then I will admit that I’m wrong, but I can’t see them getting blown out.

Regardless SOMEONE has to beat Dobbs. Don’t be suprised of an upset with C-H. Dobbs tends to overlook sometimes…

  15. Somersss

haha more like somers 45 nyak 8. I mean come on no one can come close to somers right now, with dieana, lobardo, haas and marasco nyak has no speed compared to that.

  16. hsfootballfan

4.3? A 220 lb white guy? That would be great if it were physically possible.

  17. 10960

Guys….. I dont care where your from…. what team you go for… or whether you like Nyack or not….. Just please guys do me one solid favor….. Tell Eagle1 to shut the hell up.

    thats all I ask…. Eagle1…. Shuuuuuut Up!!!

After that being said, I must say that It’s true!!! Nyack does not have much team speed this year but they’re not too bad…... Some people assume Nyack is a fast team cause speed is the Nyack brand.

There’s no doubt about it that Nyack is the underdog and as a realist, I think the odds are in somers favor….. But its not impossible for Nyack to win. I dont see Nyack allowing 44 points.

  18. -Backman

hhhahah wow lombardo a 4.3, if he did hed be a top 100 recruit in the nation. He would literally be sammy maldonado. Somers is too big and physial for nyack and they play amazingly well as a team. Matt deiana has wheels, thats all i’ll say about the speed factor. Rob lombardo is the best player on either team. Somers 6’2 265 pd. OL, DL is better than any OL on nyack.

  19. 10960

    Backman,

    Nyack has a 6’2” 300 pounder…..if it means anything.

But here’s where your wrong Backman, You forgot to tell Eagle1 to shut up.

Thats all I ask of you guys…. The guy say Lombardo runs a 4.3….... He’s a moron…. from now on teall Eagle1 to shut up.

    That goes for everyone

  20. HUSKIES FOREVER

Do any of you fine people know when & where Harrison’s playing Pok? I figure I’ll get one last look at them in action. The worst feeling in the world is getting knocked out of the playoffs in the first round….

  21. NewRo'sDynasty

    No disrespect to anyone
but all this talk of Nyack is…well extremely BORING !

  22. anon

at what position does somers over power Nyack? the right guard of somers is about 150lbs.
And nyack had 240 rushing yards against harrison, that does not sound like a struggle to me.

  23. anon

the advantage of somers is definetlely not team spead or power, it is the accuracy and poise of the qb.

  24. ?

    pleasantville 34 BH 7

  25. Rye Relic

Kick Off RYE-NANUET IS 4:00 SATURDAY @ John Nugent Stadium, RHS

This is from the AD’s office

  26. -Backman

Somers overpowers nyack across the lines not just b/c of size but of technique. Also, on somers D-line, who is number 74, that big kid?

  27. Section 1 w/ some sense

kevin says:As good as Nyack’s backs are, there’s too much speed and too many playmakers on this Tuskers defense.

you guys think thats means more than what he said. Speed on defense. backs that fly to the ball and a solid 5-2 front that makes you run outside. Deinna not playing much D against Pk but the speed is still there on D. Marasco was a good call by someone im not looking up to see who, but he flys around best (athlete) on the team, he leads a fiery defensive backfield

  28. 56

number 74 on somers D-line is victor prato, hes 6’2 240 and only a sophomore, a lot of potential.

  29. anon

seen somers live twice. not impressed with them up front.
    making money with skilled backs.

  30. pigskinal

To Go Black Hats….your comments as usual are obnoxious. If you speak for the Rye Neck fan base or god forbid anyone on the team then I hope that Westlake shows up for this game unlike game one…you need a lesson in humility and hopefully they will give you one. You should be embarrassed by your comments and hopefully the Rye Neck families are as well. Both teams have done a great job getting this far…how about applauding both for their efforts and just allowing the best team that day win without the stupid commentary?

  31. anon

i would have a difficult time chosing somers front 5 -2 on d or nyacks fron 5 -2. I don’t even thinks its comparable.

  32. anon

meant to say; difficult time chosing somers front 5 – 2 over nyacks. Nyacks is more skilled and much much faster.

  33. anon

    last comment of the night….
although a nyack fan, i have much respect for the somers team. they seem to be hard working and play with class.
    May the best team win.

(p.s i’ll take davis and leonard over lombardo and dieana any day of the week)

  34. Falcons

The Rye Neck football bloggers are turning into the Briarcliff basketball bloggers from last year. I was rooting for Rye Neck to knock off Dobbs a couple of weeks ago but now I hope this bunch doesn’t even get by Westlake. The obnoxious and totally ridiculous comments are making me hate Rye Neck.

  35. 10960

Yea well you guys all failed to tell the Eagle1 Guy to shut up

He’ll be back and its all your faults

  36. Husker Nation

funny how Town is being looked at as if its tappan zee, pearl river, or spring valley

  37. westlake wildcat

Good luck to all the teams in the playoffs.

    GO WILDCATS!

  38. Dr E

    Kevin, I forgive you.

  39. Dr E

By the way, in the interest of accuracy, 2 years ago the game was at Rye not Pleasantville.

BH and Pville have played an amazing 6 common opponents this year:

    BH Pville
    Kennedy W 7-0 W 27-7
    Put Valley W 35-19 W 24-0
    Ardsley W 13-6 W 43-7
    Rye L 7-21 L 7-20
    Pleham W 41-8 W 41-12
    Briarcliff W 19-0 W 34-7

What does that mean? Nothing that’s why there is a game on Saturday. So stop talking about the Rye score or what happened 3 years ago and play what should be a very even and very good football game.

By the way did anybody notice that Pleasantville-Briarcliff score?

  40. WingtGuy

    Huskies Forever,

According to the Boces site the game is at Harrison on Saturday at 2:45pm.

    HSFootballfan,

I have seen Ossining twice, Somers twice and every Nyack game. In my opinion there is not a great deal of difference in team speed between any of these teams. Individuals on one team might be faster, but as a team it seems pretty even to me.

To me it comes down to line play for the Nyack Somers game. If Nyack’s o line can open holes for Davis, Leonard and Johnson, they can control the ball and make a game of it. It appears to me that Nyack’s line is quick and smart. Somers line might be more powerful and they play as a unit very well.

The Nyack d line and linebackers need to control the middle in order to have a chance. The loss of Sorel is going to hurt. I think we will see more of Dragon on defense then we have during the season. Davis is quick and strong but he gets double teamed a great deal and needs some help in the middle.

Another huge difference in the game will be the play of Zmuidins and Nichols. Zmuidins has had a great year and his passing ability has made Somers much more of a threat (and they would have been great without him). Nyack’s secondary has to play a solid game.

Nichols has to have a big game. He was off last week and missed several wide open receivers. He did a great job running the team, but his passing was off. Could have been heavy wind and rain, but Nyack needs an accurate and steady Ray Nichols on Saturday.

The difference maker is Lombardo. He is the catalyst for Somers. He gets most of the big carries on offense and the defense feeds off his intensity. I know there are other great players on Somers and they played well when he was hurt, but I still think they look to him as their go to guy.

I am hoping for a well played close game with no injuries; same for the Yorktown Ossining game. The winner will have a tough match up next week at Mahopac. I don’t think Yorktown can stay with Ossining, but we could all be surprised. You never know with all that smoke coming from the Ossining sausage and peppers.

Good luck to everyone on Saturday. See you at Mahopac next week. It will be a great final no matter who gets in.

    Go Nyack.

  41. ross

dont overlook croton they have a very good chance of upsetting dobbs.

  42. Joe the Plumber

    Mount will upset St. Anthony’s
    Mahopac will beat New Ro
John Jay EF will crush Carmel
    Croton will beat Dobbs Ferry

  43. 56

not even close i would take lombardo over davis and deiana ove dom leonard. Lombardo is a complete beast the only fullback better that ive seen is KLHT’s Kevin pierre louis.

  44. BIG JOE

WOW WE NOW HAVE JOE THE PLUMBER ON THE BLOG LAST YEAR I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WATCHING HARRISON PLAY IN THE CONSELLATION BOWL GAME BECAUSE HALF OF THE VARSITY DID NOT SHOW UP AND THE GAME WAS PLAYED WITH THE SECOND STRING TEAM PLEASE ARTIE MAKE SURE THEY SHOW I FELT A SLAP IN MY FACE WHEN THAT HAPPENED BECAUSE I TRAVEL ALMOST ONE HOUR TO SEE HARRISON PLAY WIN OR LOOSE IT IS MY ENJOYMENT AND IF THEY SHOW KEVINS PREDICTION COULD BE CORRECT AND HE USUALLY IS BUT IF THE EFFORT IS NOT THERE I WILL BE TRAVELING FOR NAUGHT

  45. HUSKIES FOREVER

    WingTguy,thank you,good luck against Somers…..

  46. aa-north

carmel -mahopac final..you heard it here..there would be 6-8 thousnd people there at mahopac.

  47. kathy lee

    Falcons,
i know the ridiculous comments by rye neck fans on this blog is not a representation of the football players on the rye neck football team.

  48. not so fast my friend

Anyone counting out ytown upsetting otown needs to take another look. They have the physicality and athleticism to hang around, their backfield is mainly the starting D on the lax team, tough and athletic. O is nasty and Town cant make any mistakes, but to give no shot to the Huskers is crazy. Great to see these schools in a big game again! Good luck to all

  49. cutitout

Rye Neck Bloggers, There is no need to talk so much trash. If you believe that you are truly that good, there should be no need to even post on this blog!!! prove it on the field at 1:30 in Westlake, not on this blog!!! GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!

  50. 10960

    56,

I’d take 1 from each… Lombardo and Leonard if you ask me. Either way, they’re all very good players.

    WingtGuy,

I agree that Ray Nichols needs to have an accurate passing game because there were some missed opportunities against Harrison… Either over thrown or thrown too short. I also dont like the way Cas decides to throw in the red zone… If the run is working… Keep running… they have a good kicker… worse comes to worse you kick a field goal. The pass put a hault to a couple key drives.

    Huskies Forever, Big Joe,

Your showing good class, I hope the Harrison starters show up and finish strong for you guys. Look forward to seeing you guys next year.

    To all class A followers,

With Yorktown You never know. I really haven’t followed them this season and here they are in the final 4. I really dont know who Yorktown brings to the table but I do know that Ossining brings alot. I predict Ossining to win and I believe its a credible win if they do… Yorktown makes for good competition in preparing for sections. Nobody wants to come out flat against any 7-1 opponent unless they want that opponent to be their last.

Nyack against Somers is where a major dog fight will likely take place…. I believe the Nyack Size up front is under the radar. The Nyack Strength in the trenches is also an Indian benefit that falls under the radar. Somers may be big and strong but so is Nyack. Nyack may have a few injuries but the backups are no pushovers. The Second string played just as many qaurters as the starters in Nyacks impressive defensive season. There’s really no catching Somers off gaurd however, because they take the Nyack Indian brand very serious over there and expect to finally have a competitive game this year.

  51. 10960

    Class Double AA,

New Rochelle Over Mahopac is likely. New Rochelle has a pretty solid defense and the New Rochelle offense is just as good as any out there. Mahopac literally had to out score Ramapo to get to this point. The Mahopac defense really had trouble stopping the Gryphons offense. However, The Ramapo defense wasn’t good enough to Stop Mahopac and infact wasn’t really a cream of the crop type of defense all year anyway. Now with New Rochelle there’s a better package, They’re just as fast as Ramapo offensively and have a much better defense. If Ramapo can put up 27 on The Mahopac defense so can New Rochelle but the difference is that Ramapo allowed 28 points and I’m sure the New Rochelle defense can do better then that.

JJEF over Carmel is another likely prediction. This game should be a little close. Carmel showed a solid defensive effort against North Rockland. North Rockland relies on power football to be successful just like JJEF whom I must say is the best out there as far as team strength. Both Carmel and JJEF are more so carried upon defensively. I believe This one is a 10 point difference at most and Neither team scoring more then 20.

  52. Joe the Plumber

Carmel and Mahopac – 6-7 thousand people at the game – that won’t happen

there isn’t even 6 thousand fans in Carmel and Mahopac, the granny’s and grandpas are coming?

It will be Mahopac and John Jay EF in the Final.

  53. eagle1

10960: Just like you wouldn’t shut up last year after your team went 5-4, i’m not going anywhere anytime soon. It is a fact, and obviously not too many people disagree. Go to scout.com and look at his 40 time. That is where i got my information, then come back to the blog and apologize to me and we’ll all be friends again. ( Obviously your going to tell me that those numbers are always exaggerated, but it’s the only thing we can go by at this time.

  54. footballnut

To “Husker Nation” and “Not so fast my friend”, I don’t think anyone is counting the Town out … I would be the first to say “not so fast my friend” about any of the remaining games this week or next, especially Nyack/Somers. Can you imagine the ‘reset’ in thinking for a Yorktown/Nyack final in Section one? It is indeed a possibility. I think the flow of thought simply reflects the level of play Somers and Ossining have exhibited so far, but so far we have not played Saturday’s games. Too bad they are scheduled at the same time … is that a bone headed decision or are there other reasons these games couldn’t have been staggered?
Good luck and good health to all the players. It’s been alot of fun watching this build up to the next two weekends.

  55. eagle1

Please let me correct myself before 10960 does his ten min. check of the blogs. Lombardo’s speed was 4.6 not 4.3 My mistake, yet still very fast, his bench press was something ridiculous like 360. Matt Dieanna was the faster back.

  56. footballnut

Speaking of “resets”, I just noticed the little “Poll” box on this page … and according to the poll Somers is winning the whole thing … not so fast my friends.

  57. ram man

Joe the plumber is an ass….it will be Carmel vs Mahopac in the final and the second time these rivals have faced off in the post season..think the last time was 2001…a one point win by the Rams in an amazing game..if I rememeber correctly it was also in consecutive weeks in the first round..could be wrong though…Jerome Leslie-WR(Eagles signee) took over the game..for the notion that there wont be 6-7 thousand you are a joker..in 1988 I saw both teams play as undefeateds for the league title and the mythical section championship game berth against N Rockland at Memorial Stadium( pre-playoffs)and there had to be 10k or at least 8k here in Carmel..town cops, sherriffs, troopers and german shepards…it was an incredible game that Mahopac won 35-28..hard fought, clean and a very physical game with Johnny Gugs at QB for Carmel…Mahopacs star players were hoops coach Downs at Mahopac and the baseball Coach at Ketcham Meely.. Downs was a nasty tailback/DB who I think went to BC…The game is forever known as the thriller at Kristeller…I think the last time Mahopac won..just kidding..the Ramapo game was no upset by Mahopac..they are better..maybe not more athletic..but better..face it..new coach or not the Gryphons always underperform and choke and I dont think Coach Cayea will lose to Coach Walsh twice in a month..Carmel advances to the states and the little Indians lose what the 12th game in 13 tries..do you realize thats an entire school career..just think if youre a Mahopac senior youve seen only one win…how demoralizing????Go Carmel!!Remember this is the tenth anniversary of our section championship..a win versus the same choking Gryphons..it has to be fate!!Lets just hope we advance from Kingston this time. Good luck to all the players and coaches.

  58. 10960

    Eagle1,

Why did you ever believe 4.3 in the first place?? You believed that?? LOL WOW. You claimed it was a fact then decided to do a fact check LOL. Let me guess, You still want that apology?? LOL LOL …. Your right, I didn’t shut up last year….. Why would I?? We made the Playoffs!!!! LOL LOL

    Your a funny dude.

  59. Steve

AA playoffs, new ro pretty easily over mahopac…new ro’s defense is alot better then ramapo, they will contain autera early. he is an awesome RB so that is not to say he wont break a few runs, but New Ro will focus on him and force the indians to pass, which they cleary do not do at all, despite a great arm and a cool head on QB Tim Taps.
    New Ro 28 Pac 14

JJEF and carmel…. now here is THE game. if you had the opportunity to catch the first time these two played you know as i do this will be a GREAT game. both teams have great QB’s but JJEF clearly has the better running game, while Carmel owns the air with schilling. this game will come down to how JJEF defense does against the pass. they are nothing short of scary good against the run, but the pass is an area they are vulnerable. but heres the funny part, ive been critical of JJEF’s pass defense the whole year, but the past 3 games theyve showed REMARKABLE improvement. so if JJEF can now stop the pass as well as the run, watch out.
even though this is a home game for JJEF, i truly feel carmel will have the advantage. any of us who have ever played football know how extremely difficult to beat a team twice in one year, especially one as great as the rams. plus carmel is coming off two emotional wins in a row so if they can avoid that emotioal letdown they should be very tough….everything said though i have to go with JJEF in a close one. their ability to control the line of scrimmage and control the clock will keep schilling off the field again. JJEF 20-14

  60. Cayea's Corner

Kevin, Steve, 10960 and others…...did you see what Matt Spillane from section 1 recruiting said about the game? he basically said that if it’s a low scoring game like the first one, then it’s john jay, but if it’s a higher scoring affair he likes the rams. He said that after watching how the rams have competed the last two weeks, winning against archrival mahopac then blowing out north rockland, he thinks the rams will light up the scoreboad and beat john jay 27 -21, thus “shock the section.” Won’t shock me. Rams win, don’t know by how much, or even how, but they win, and Mahopac here we come!

  61. gxl

Lombardo benches 400 pounds at least. I can’t remember deiana’s but its ridiculous and and at least two of the linemen also bench in the mid 300’s

  62. Work D

    Eagle 1,

Obviously your tiny uneducated eastchester brain couldnt figure out that rob lombardo doesnt run a 4.3, idiot.

  63. A Fan

I don’t remember any Ossining fan coming on this site and taking Yorktown lightly. The “O” have been very quiet in responding to the smack talk of the Yorktown players. They prefer to show them how serious they are on the field. They are taking Yorktown very seriously.

  64. pacfan

    10960

  65. pacfan

I dont think you saw the Ramapo-Mahopac game. Ramapo returned a kick for a touchdown and had a 35 yard touchdown drive. It’s not like Pac couldnt stop them which they did on the final drive.
I think that if New Ro puts 8-9 guys at the line, its gonna open up the outside for sweeps and toss plays. It should also help the play action pass, which worked against Carmel. I see Autera gettin 140 and 2 TD’s and the D doing just enough.
    Mahopac 21 New Ro 20

New Rochelle’s defense is the toughest in the section when in comes to the run. Thats what makes new rochelle a good defensive team. They can’t defend the pass very well. thats been the story since ray rice left. New Ro will be at Mahopac for the 3 year in a row. Playing against JJFK. It doesn’t really matter what team comes out of section 1 there going to lose to the crusaders of the woodbury commons eventually. The only team that can compete with them is most likely New Ro. They just don’t have the players they had in the past to get by again. The “O” is going to beat yorktown by a fair amount. And give it to somers in the championship game. Somers has no depth. Lombrado most have a friend on the scout site , because I would say he runs a round a 4.8 or high 4.7. I also think Deinna runs around 4.6. His foot speed is very impressive for some body his size. The “O” just has to much speed for them in the final. Rye is going to get upset ed really soon.

  70. Dee Bones

To all you Joe Weiders…who cares how much they bench and how fast they run..just play the game

  71. State

Yea Rob Lombardo can bench 400 pounds on his own? lol ill take that bet my friend

    Joe The Plumber,

Hey toilet boy dont take my comments personally but as a Rams fan Ive seen many games..probably shouldnt have used the term a**...my apologies,,just having fun and like you am a huge HS football fan…Kevin..my apologies as well!!!And no, German Shepards dont count, but if youve ever been to one of these types of games between the two schools maybe they do..Mahopac vs. Carmel hoops with a riot two years ago was an ugly mark on this rivalry..whats better is you have 2 teams from the same town…imagine if it was a regional HS..Mahopac is a hamlet in the town of Carmel…just a much bigger population..either way..great for our community!!Go Rams!!

Yorktown has talent and can win for sure. They will need to play close to perfect to do so. Play like they did the first half versus Brewster and they have little to no shot. Should be a good game good luck Huskers.

  84. ChiefWildEagle

To Husker Nation and others. Stop trying to look for controversy where none exists.
Stop trying to get the Ossining fans to dis you people so that you will have something to rally around.
No one down here is taking the Huskers lightly, especially the O Town players and coaches.

Just keep practicing and be ready to BRIING IT Saturday night.

To all the players still in the playoffs, tomorrow night, think before you act.
You have all worked too hard to screw up now.
Remember, you will not be able to win a football game on Saturday sitting at Woodfield Cottage!!!!!

  85. gxl

Whoever said that Somers does not have depth, did you read the article for the Somers-Eastchester game? The one that was called “Somers shows off its Depth”?

  86. 10960

Guys Ya wanna know what the bottom line is??

No really, Do you guys really wanna know what the bottom line is??

    well I’ll tell ya.

The Somers Fans are the best in the section, They have the most loyal supporters I’ve ever seen on this Blog as well.

Guys I have the the evidence to support my statement. one name and one name only is the case closer.

    EAGLE1

  87. 10960

    Pacfan,

You believe Mahopac scores three solid on the New rochelle defense?? I can’t call that one because you may be right.

However, Holding New Rochelle to 20 points is not out of the question either. Only if New Ro comes out flat like they did against Mt. Vernon, then I can see that happening.

You never know… afterall… its the playoffs!!!

  88. dubbz

I don’t think EAGLE1 is a somers fan my friend, I on the other hand, along with 300+ other crazy somers students, am a fan of the most dominant team in the state at the moment.

p.s. true somers fans don’t need to brag about bench max’s and all that other mumbo jumbo. it’s implied in the somers name.

  89. Bobcats

    Dr, E
That common opponents is an amazing stat. After seeing that I have to think Pville will win. Pville has played the same team 6 times and has beaten all but one by more points (Pelham only exception) or in case of Rye lost by 1 less point. Pville margin of victory has been over 9pts better than BH over that 6 game span. How can you not give the edge to Pville based on that.

Since Pville is 9ts better over 6 games I am sticking to that. Pville 16- BH 7

  90. BRAG SOME MORE

THE LEGEND IS 0-3 VS. RICCI.

  91. Pville Old School

Oh Bobcat I wish it was that easy. If we always went by common opponents than games wouldn’t be played. I do agree Pville being being better by 9+pts seems like a lot of not just one game but 6. But still the game has to be decided on the field.

Reminds me of 87 when Pville came in 9-0 against a Dobbys Ferry team of 6-2-1 where Pville crushed the two teams Dobbys lost to and beat the team they tied. Outcome…well I wish I could say I forgot but it was Dobbys 9 Pville 7. You go 9 and 1 but there is only one game you remember and that of course if the lose.

Pville play the game on the field and not by the numbers of common opponents. Don’t fall into the trap!!

  92. trick or treat

  93. Work D

Somers is saying everything on the field, where they r beatin the crap out of everyone.

  94. COACH DARLOS

wow can’t wait til this weekend

    should be some great games

  95. Franco's 624-CUTS

I pick the Pac to upset New Ro

    JJ to take out Carmel
Sing to put York behind Bars
Somers over Nyack(even though I’m rooting for The Indians to upset)

Rye over Nanuet (same as above Go Knights)
Pleasantville to take the Hills out of Byram
P.S. Cant’t Beleive it almost over

  96. Section 1 Guy

I think people need to realize just how hungry and determined this Mahopac team is. Watch the last minute of the Ramapo game and you’ll see what their defense can do, they’re young but extremely talented, and have finally reached their peak at the best time.

As for the offense, I agree that they won’t be successful unless they open up the playbook. Autera will need get at least 30 touches, and Pac can’t just use the playaction, they need to add some 3 and 5 step drops to burn the Hugonots secondary.

And just a sub-plot, the last time Mahopac faced New Ro, they beat them 8-0, if Mahopac executes their game plan New Ro is in for a surprise.

  97. Dr E

Bobcats, I’m not sure if that is really you or if you are being sarcastic, but as I said:

“What does that mean? Nothing that’s why there is a game on Saturday. So stop talking about the Rye score or what happened 3 years ago and play what should be a very even and very good football game.”

The game is tomorrow and what happened in the past has no affect. It should be a good game.

  98. A Fan

The Somers fans need to calm down a little. Coach DeMatteo and his team are going to take the next two games seriously. If they thought they were going to blow out Ossining, they wouldn’t be bringing in his nephews, sons, and long time faithful to help him game plan for Ossining. He will have a lot of non-Somers coaches on the side lines this week and twice as many next week.

  104. eagle1

10960: Any of the facts i’ve listed have been true. So why are you so bothered by me on the blog? Yes eastchester is the ninth best team in section 1 class A, but i am still entitled to an opinion. I think Nyack has had an outstanding season. They returned many starters, and have dominated most teams. Although i don’t think they would have dominated eastchester. They may have won the game, but dominate no. Eastchester’s weakness is their pass defense. Thier run defense is fantastic. Nyack kind of plays into thier strong suit.

Even you agree that somers is a much more tested team than nyack. Somers has played Harrison 3-4, Yorktown, 7-1, Eastchester, 6-2, Pok, 4-3, hen hud, 5-3,. Nyack played two teams over 500. and are 1-1 in those games. Somers has the clear advantage. Although i am not a big somers fan.

  105. Class A with a clue

Well i’m back for my second round class A picks. In a review here are last weeks predictions and actual scores:

    Yorktown 34 brewster 6 ACTUAL: 27-6
    Somers 27 Pok 0 ACTUAL: 62-12
    Ossining 42 Fox Lane o ACTUAL: 52-13
    Nyack 21 Harrison 7 Actual: 20-7
Here are this weeks semi final games with some reasoning:

Ossining 35 Yorktown 0 I just think that ossining is way too talented. In Yorktown’s only other big game of the year they lost to Somers 41-8. Yorktown has trouble playing error free football, and that’s what they’ll need to keep this one close.

Somers 28 Nyack 7 This may be a great game in the first half, but the truth of the matter is (like eagle one said above) Nyack has not been tested like somers. (By the way shut up eagle one) Look for a 14-7 somers lead at the half, then somers will wear down nyack in the third and fourth, scoring two more times. Also remember that dematteo won’t run the score up on his buddy Castealano. The good ol’ boys network.
    For Fun:

    AA
Mahopac 34 New rochelle 14. THis will shock everyone, but you heard it hear first
Carmel 14 John Jay 8. Carmel should have won the first game and after the n. rockland game look extremely focussed.

And by the way for the one’s above who are doubters,a Carmel Mahopac final will easily draw 8-10 thousand fans. It is just as historic as rye and harrison.

  106. Joe the Plumber

    Somers will lose to Nyack-ahhhhhhhhhhh

  107. ram man

I would not be shocked by Mahopac win over New Ro…if the little Indians play any defense..they win…on the other hand theyre giving up over 30 in their last 4..so lets see…in terms of the Rams Im telling you Coach Cayea isnt losing to JJEF twice..fool me once as they say..but it aint happening twice…Somers spanks Nyack..The O by 10 over the corndogs…..lets go back to Coach Cayea hes what 40 years old and has 100 wins already between Carmel and Rye Neck..we are watching a great young Coach here..along the lines of Dematteo..remember he doesnt coach Jimmy Kennedy(Penn State/Rams) or the Atkins kid somewhere in the pros on the same team or some of the other studs Coach D had at Roosevelt..here a lot of kids who run a 5 flat forty if we’re being honest(apparently the clocks are a bit faster in Somers what a joke)..Cayea totally outcoached N Rock and Mahopac..how do we rush for nearly 300 yards against Mahopac behind backups..nice kids…but 3 backups..coaching , thats how!Rams over the soccer school by 6!!Then another beatdown of the Pocahontas Pretenders !!!How sweet!!

  108. 10960

    class A with a clue,

Good post…. very informative and the “Eagle1” comment was classic. Definitly had me chuckling on that one.

    Eagle1,

As much as I want to tell you to shut up, I must say that you make a good point on that last post. Throw in more like that and I’m sure everyone forgets about your 4.3 comment and Eastchester complaints.

But dont be political about it neither. You say Nyack only played two teams above 500 and were 1-1 which sounds far worse and misleading. The 1 loss comes from an undefeated team arguably number 1 in the section. That same 1 loss went down to the final qaurter. See, if you put it that way it sounds more impressive then calling Nyack 1-1 against teams above 500. Nyack was was 12 minutes away from being undefeated. Now that sounds good.

Your right about Somers being more tested over the course of the season but Nyack and Ossining actually had the biggest test when they sqaured off. The Ossining/Nyack game showed that both teams are withing reach of a championship. Nyack just had the latter earlier thats all…. regular season we have to see Ossining… Post Season we have to see Somers…. Ossining only has to see Nyack in their journey to Mahopac and Somers only has to see Nyack in their journey to Mahopac. Ya see, Nyack has the latter cause we cant even make it to sections without having seen both teams.

  109. footballgiant

I am a neutral observer who played and loves football. I don’t have a team per say. Your comments are awful and all you are doing is attempting to stir the pot. I am sure you aren’t a plumber, but if you were, I would have liked for your fingers get stuck in a pipe for the rest of the weekend so you can’t type anymore.

  110. Watch the Zebras

Let’s hope that all of these semi finals games are not impacted by the officals. I can see the Somers vs Nyack game
being critized after the game for poor officating. Remember Uncle Tony gets all the calls on his home field,
we’ll see how the Nyack faithful like this advantage for Somers. Last weeks Mahopac vs Ramapo games was an absolute
travisty those guys should not be doing any playoff games this weekend. Let the kids decide the games and not these
so called officals section 1 have!

  111. dubbz

did “A Fan” say that the somers fans need to calm down a little?

we breath intensity and piss excellence, nothing can stop us from loving our team and anticipating greatness tomorrow night.

  112. Dubbz Hater

Look, just cuz you went 5 for 8 against us last year in baseball, doesn’t mean that you are a good fan. We have the best 12th-man club here at Nyack. You are not very inspirational, I hear, and your Halloween costume was generic. I mean, everyone at Nyack was the grounds crew for the Yankees.

  113. footballnut

Speaking of Somers bringing in the brain trust and family to begin game planning … I’m sure I saw Nick Saban at the “O” Nation practice facility on Thursday night. Difference is, he was asking Coach Ricci for ‘big play’ advice.
Brothers and sisters, if it gets to this game, Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and Pete Carroll may call ESPN to have it broadcast.

  114. Joe the Plumber

    dubbz

you guys need a piss test, is that what you meant? lol

  116. 1st and 10

There is only one way for Nyack to beat Somers…That is to control the clock offensively, they have to grind it out with Anthony Davis. Keep Somers on defense. But the trouble Nyack is going to have is with the Somers passing game. I do not think the Nyack secondary is very good and if Nyack comes in all guns on a pass rush, I can see the draw play getting big gains for Somers. With that being said: Somers 35 – Nyack 13.
Ossining will have no trouble beating Yorktown. Yorktown is good, but not in Ossinings class. Ossining 34 – Yorktown 6
I think New Ro is in for a dogfight. Mahopac in my eyes has the best running back in Section 1 in Autera. I see an upset with Mahopac beating New Ro 22 – 20.
I like Carmel over JJEF. With all the injuries, they keep plugging away and finding a way to win. They have had a hard schedule but I think they have the mojo going right now. Carmel 28 – JJEF 27
Class B -Unfortunatley not many people care because Rye is so dominant. Rye is going back to the dome as well as I believe whoever comes out of Class A will be going to the Dome.

How with a straight face could you make a statement that Carmel should have won the first game. Jay stuck the ball down Carmels throat for the entire 4th quarter which included 3 Jay penalties. Carmel players were sucking wind. It was O-line 101.This is a game of two mirrored image teams. Big fast lines both sides of the ball solid Q.B.’s and solid running. Another close game. If your a football fan this is a great game to see. 21-15 Jay. Carmel scores late plus 2 to make it close wich gives 15 total.

ram man….. although i agree that it is EXTREMELY hard to beat a team twice in the same season, which works in carmel’s favor, it is also intresting to point out something we may not be aware of. Carmel has not beaten JJEF since Coach Walsh took over. thats 3 straight wins over carmel. i didnt know that til i did the research. coach Cayea is a hell of a coach, but coach walsh seems to have his number. all in all should be a great game, but i have to go with the statistics until coach cayea beats walsh, JJEF 20-13

  135. Joe the Plumber

It is game day, Put up or shut up!!!

  136. west lake cant compete

Joe Mamma your an idiot. I was at that game and the two bad calls that went against West Lake didnt come until it was 14 nothing. You got out played by rye neck in every way possible. Will carter your so called amazing full back couldnt even manage 10 yards againt Haviland and class C’s best linebacker Nick Johnson. Your insane if you think Rye Neck doesnt want to crush you again just like last time. The truth is Rye neck has more defensive playmakers then you have on offense, so your going nowhere. And Rye neck has three threats in the back field who will run all over you. These threee guys average 100 yards a game each, and your arm tackling cant stop that. Now Joe Mamma I know that you are most likely a parent and its hard to see your sons lose two years in a row, especially hen you got moved down and you should be dominating. Its probably because you have no heart. The home field advantage doesnt make a difference anyway the black hats would love nothing more than to beat you at your house. I cant wait to see them run all over you again. maybe this time you wont blame the mean fans or the officiating crew, What are you five?

Obviously, some people commenting on the Ramapo- Pac game were not present. The game was back and fourth with a questionable td call, and teams that were moving the ball up and down the field all night.Pac made two big 4th down conversions that aided in there victory, congrats to them, but nobody is commenting on the fact Ramapo moved the ball 40 yds in 2 plays to Pac’s 30 yd line with 40+ seconds left before that horrible injury to the Mahopac player. That time stoppage 30+ minutes effectively killed any momentum the Ramapo offense had. That being said Ramapo almost completed a half back option pass but came up an inch short and was ruled a trapped ball.Mahopac won the game but to say their defense shut down Ramapo’s offense in that final drive is a little misleading. Most people in the stands that night believe that time stoppage for the injured player was a huge factor.Side Note- Thank God the player has recovered and is feeling better, and good luck to Mahopac in the playoffs.

  140. ram man

    To Big Fan,

Dont disagree, Coach Dirienzo is one of the best but this is clearly his least talented team in the last 5 years..Mahopacs offense is the key to the game..and if Johnny McGhee melts down its the little indians in a victory…New Ros staff is better than Mahopacs with Coach Dirienzo and Coach Foster..watch Autera though I think he may go for 200 yards..hes as good as Ive seen in some time..not on par with the all time greats but he plays at full speed for 48 minutes…he ran a legit 4.5 forty at a spring combine on laser so if he gets a crack the NewRo speed advantage may be negligble..he hung 240 on us two weeks ago…just not enough..I hate to say it but Im rooting for the Pocahontas’ in the hopes of seeing a Ram-little Indian final..good luck to everyone in any event!!

    To Westlake can’t compete,

Rye Neck did have a good year. Home field must have made a difference since you did not crush Westlake as you said you would….All the men who played on that football field had heart today…including Rye Neck…I was there for both games and there was a difference in Westlake today….So since the game is over…oh …and your season…I do have to say….Rye Neck is a cute little football team.
